Took the ambulance over 2hrs to transport mom 40miles. Kinfolk were waiting so no need for dad to be there.
There was a big fire and explosion in my hometown in 1957 at the John Deere dealership and repair shop. Several men were burned, and 4 died. There were no ambulances at that time. Men were transported to the closest hospital in station wagons. The current medical advice is to wait for an ambulance, but I often wonder if self transport might be better in some instances?

At my location an ambulance isn't an option. They'd never make it up here in the winter unless I opened up the road for them and unlocked the Forest Service gate. Which could take 8 to 12 hours. During summer, if they could find our road they could make it up here. A couple years ago I was working on our new corral when I started getting severe stomach pains. After a few days I drove myself 75 miles to the hospital. Bearly made it. My appendix burst. The wife was at work in Alaska at the time.
Another time my wife fell and broke her leg, foot and ankle in several places. I loaded her in the back of the Grand Cherokee and drove her to the hospital.
There's always a risk when living out like this, and we both accept these risks. We wouldn't live anywhere else at this time in our lives.

Apologies @Hooch I didn't see your question. He was a Springer Spaniel, but I only got him at a year old (rescue because he was gun shy)and although he was obedient and trained to sit etc, he wasn't bought up with cats. He wasn't vicious, just loved the chase. Husband is burying them both now in the pet cemetery; the cat hasn't a mark on her. Thank you to those who sent on virtual hugs- you are a great bunch. I have outdoor and indoor cats; but I don't believe in cooping them up they love climbing the trees and they are cats after all- no animals should be locked up all the time. Que sera.

Today just finishing some Christmas organising- it looks like I will have extra around the table after all- and waiting to see the results of our elections.
Oh no worries..I'm sorry you had to go through that.
I haven't been around very many springers..a few. My impression of them were willing n pretty happy pooches with alot of energy. Being a hunting breed that isn't surprising.
Bummer tho..

Had a great day yesterday!

I got up again early ..like 1am..couldn't sleep n cold 🥶 outside like 13 degrees..at least my stove had a nice bed of coals still going..
The sky was bright with stars n clear..so I did a little stargazing.
Little dipper , then left n south of that was Taurus, then Orion, then Sirius
Then I had to crawl into bed to warm up ..tried to sleep..got tired about 4ish..got up about 8.
I think I have some anxiety issues around going onto day shift. I hate waking up early ..hate it! ..I don't do this on nights..but day shift I get up too damb early, don't settle down untill it's time to get up..then I'm tired n a zombie because I have to get up..gah..
I can't wait to retire..
Anyways...
Today..walk the pups, make gravey with the turkey drippings, go to neighbors to see the quilt she will be making n show her my rugs.
Get stovie going n start a new rug..kinda a chill day..

Gotta finish sewing the ends n a tag on it..I like bright colors in winter..cheery

I suppose that I should go out and split some firewood. I've got about a cord left to split, that should finish filling up the wood shed. We don't have enough wood to make it through the winter, but I have my eyes on a few standing dead Doug Fir trees on the property that I'll cut down and drag home. We burn 24/7 until around May, then only at night and morning.

so much for doing little today....so far I sat for maybe 20 minutes while I was eating lunch...

got up, put animals out, cleaned barn
cooked lunch, ate lunch
put animals back in because it started to really snow a lot
now I still have a huge pile of dishes to do
plus in between feed the stove (husband brings it in from outside, I take care of the stove)
let Otto out, let other dog out, feed dogs
fill up bird feeders with sunflower seeds outside

NOW I am taking a break before the pile of dishes....

You know what I really dislike about winter? Having to change in and out of all these layers of clothes several times a day...we have barn clothes, house clothes , night clothes and if we go somewhere good clothes LOL. And these are complete sets of everything since the barn clothes smell well, like barn

Dang, I just realized that it's December already. The wifes birthday is the day after tomorrow. I'll have to figure something out for her.
We have a CD coming due this week too. The interest rates have dropped so I'm not going to roll it over. I think I'll take the interest and buy a new stock trailer and a half dozen heifers. Then send the principal to our investment manager to invest however she sees fit.

this little cold snap has used up some wood already, I still have to laugh at idiot who say "At least you get free heat" when they hear that you heat with wood. yea the wood doesn't cost when it is in your bush, but making it fit in the stove does.

Have had to keep the pup either in the house or on the long tie out because of amish church next door today. Hopefully in a half hour or so it'll clear out and he can roam the farm again. Lots of lots of buggy horses on our land tied out this morning, it looked like a big service. Made husband an early lunch, and little granddaughter and I went to the bigger town to find her a dress for the school dance next Saturday. Then to Aldi to fill a cart. So our lunch was late, but now it's coffee time. Had to make sure to get back for husband's 2:30 infusion. Just realized that our friend Bela has his jacket on our jacket tree in the front room. Husband wants to keep it.
Housework is backing up, and Aldi dry stuff still needs to be put away.

Oil, gas, cutting, spitting, stacking, bringing it inside! Free🤔

I've had a productive day. I made a goat stew, did some tail docking for someone else, bought the CD&T vaccine for small goats, got 100lb dog feed and restocked chickens' layer feed. Drug the Christmas tree inside, trimmed it so it will fit in my house, we're just finishing up decorating it. Got some of the solar lights up outside and the icicle lights (I may or may not, like, REALLY like Christmas lights) and I'm waiting on more of the solar strings to get here in the mail. The kids are putting Christmas stickers on everything 🤦‍♀️ including one of the vehicles which I'm not stoked about. The excitement is high with the littles though.

I skidded a bunch more wood in before it warms up and gets slippery, I really dont want to have to chain up Hubie 2 . it is nice when ther is frost in the ground, and decent snow cover, I don't need the trailing arch, kind of speeds the skidding up

.....also making peanut butter cookies for hubby!🍪
You got the for “hubby” part wrong. My name is not hubby - geesh. I have to remind you every time you bake them 🙄

@Heartbroken glad your mom is feeling better and that you are also. Head’s cleared enough to smell the dog - yay! Err, um well you’re feeling better anyway 🥴

@Peanut Do you have other siblings or was it just you and your bro? Take care of yourself while taking care of your folks. Prayers for y’all.

Wake me when Spring gets here! :)
But you don’t want to miss making snow angels, and drinking hot chocky, and runny noses when coming in from the cold, and skiing, and the muffled quiet and all the wonderful white dander ❄️
I made a mistake. The wife's birthday is tomorrow. Dang, and the guy is coming out tomorrow to work on the new blacksmith shop too.
I smell T R O U B L E 😂

You better do something special, Mt Trapper.
Breakfast in bed? Write her a love letter? Grill her favorite dinner?
Well, she decided that she wants to go to dinner at the Outback steakhouse. Then she wants to go to a crafts store. It's about a 260 mile round trip. I might even manage a stop at a gun store down there too. I'm sure that she'd like to look at guns and fishing stuff too.

Went to FIL’s surprise birthday party. I was commissioned to make fish 🎣 cookies for the “Rodfather.” 😂 He was surprised and had a great time so success.

Also tried Hubby’s first homemade ham today. It was good but a little salty around the outer edge. Going to do something just a little different to try to curb that. Otherwise flavor was great, honey bourbon glaze was good etc. We aren’t using any chemicals for curing- trying the “old fashioned” way. Unfortunately the era of folks who knew these things is long gone so having to learn the hard way.

Spent most of the day at the hospital, took dad down to sit with mom. Must say, after 24hrs of professional medical care she looked better, color was much improved, mind was sharper, despite having pneumonia in one lung. No wonder her blood oxygen levels were getting so low.

Poor dad, he can barely walk 100ft but the parking deck was closed for upgrades and a dumb security guy wouldn’t let me drop dad off near the door. Had to park almost 200yrds from an entrance. Dad had to stop and rest 3 times before we got inside and there was a cold wind blowing. Hope he doesn’t get sick now... But I was able to pick him at the door when we left, no security guard in sight, hope he got fired. 🤬

Several people came by to visit, mostly elderly. Only two chairs in the room so I went shopping. Got a few items for the re-wiring I’m doing at the house, made a few more stops, killing time mostly.

Had to stop for a few groceries on the way home. Was already dark when we got here, still had to feed and water the critters. Glad I got the new headlamp.

I’m beat, gonna watch some tv then to bed early.

Tonight I am sitting here admiring the new Blackstone grill recently assembled and sitting in my breakfast nook. It was a little hard to eat dinner squeezed around the humongous thing, so we set up TV trays and ate on the couch watching some TV show. Tomorrow I'll drag the Blackstone outside where it belongs and spend a couple of hours seasoning it.
