going to take care of the animals in a minute here, they are of course all inside the barn. Not sure they will even go out for long either, it is snowing a little , windy and super cold. My guess low 20s

We are going to try to put the outside propane ovens indoors , so I can bake stuff for the market without having to fight the cold and wind , plus of course less walking. One of them is in another building. They will have to go in the livingroom I guess. They will go back out next week. I cook on the wood stove in this sort of weather but need the propanes for baking for the market. I can bake in the wood stove of course also but it has to be constantly watched to try and keep the temperature steady which is not easy if you want to bake perfect looking bread. There is always a darker area on the bread somewhere no matter how many times I rotate it

Also making some food ahead for tomorrow , plus make my gingerbread cookie dough

Husband didn't tell me he was going to the dentist tomorrow until yesterday @#@$#$!!!! so son will have to help or I won't have time to get cookies done

Got up, worked out, cleaned up and was getting ready to go utilize my particular set of skills when I got waived off by the boss. Not the boss at home but the boss at work, I can't say lady boss because they are both female. So no money today, but I also don't have to go to work and can do whatever I want. That is the good and bad part of being a contract employee. Anyway, made some coffee and am now mapping out my morning. I need to go to the storage unit and run some errands, will probably also hit the gun range. That particular set of skills is highly perishable.

Wifes best local friend came up to the campground to visit today. We ended up going to Smoky Mountain Knife Works. I picked up some kitchen knifes, including a nice big Henckels Chef's knife. Should be nice to prep meat for the griddle.
Also stopped by Bass Pro SHops since we were just down the road. I had a gift card my Niece gave me for my birthday. Picked up a few little things including some CCI SubSonic .22 ammo.
Back to the campground for a nice fire and a cigar. May get snow flurries tonight and down to 23. High tomorrow is suppose to be 38.
I just got my Smokey Mountain Knife works catalog in the mail yesterday. I guess it's the last catalog that their going to publish. That's too bad, I'll miss their catalogs. I'd like to make a trip out to SMKW in person some day, but I doubt I'll ever make a trip back east in this lifetime.

Sounds like a plan

I mostly just messed around camp today. Shut down the water to the camper, drained the water heater and flushed the rest of the system with antifreeze. Loaded up and got everything I could ready to pull out in the morning.
Had a nice fire all afternoon till well past dark. Had a great time at the campground, very relaxing.

I have one errand to run then I will probably go Christmas shopping. My wife has been no help whatsoever this year. Neither of us want or need anything. It kills me not to have packages for her under the tree, but we are almost to the point where we will just give each other gift certificates. Wish me luck.
Go down to the basement and grab something, wrap it, and put it under the tree. She can’t possibly know what’s down there. 😂. (Follow me for more marriage advice) 😜

I went and picked up our skis today, then came back and went to work for a bit, then ran a couple errands. It’s gray here! It was misting earlier. I think this is supposed to break Friday. Snow all around so with the damp and highs in the 30s, it’s cold!

Soon 9 pm

DON'T GO DOWN THERE....YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S DOWN THERE!! LadyLocust must have it in for you!! Don't let her know I warned you about her...😉

We had an interesting period of time while The Princess was off work for the Thanksgiving day break (148 days left till she retires). She is a wonderful blessing (see proverbs 31:10 and following). Two Thanksgiving dinners, coordinated sweet 16 for eldest granddaughter,... quite hectic for the matriarch of the family.

So Sunday night the tenant drops off the rent check in the midst of chaos. Somewhere between getting the check and more Amazon shipments...

She lost the check!

Well that ended with me going through the paper shredder refuse looking for check shreds.

I decided to gird up my loins, fess up and ask the tenant to write a new check. She was cool and dropped off another check.

I was tempted to punch a hole in the check to affix it with a ring and chain secured to a 2x4 to make sure she didn't loose it again.

Life is good!
Count your blessings!

Ben

I can't believe your oldest granddaughter is 16 already, Ben. I remember you showing photos on Mainstream Preppers a million years ago. Ha.
Stuff around the house today, farm chores were a pain this morning...a hydrant that I use near the chicken areas froze, so toting water from the house spicket. Lots of excercise doing it that way. Cold..... More meds delivered, neighbor came by and brought some peach cinnamon rolls (were not good if you were wondering, and I'm not being mean). He visited with husband a while. Ran into the bigger town after the afternoon infusion. Went to the bank for cash and also for very random stuff at Walmart. Got a new bedspread for the upstairs back bedroom where Bela passed last week. Room is now back in order. Washing machine broke. Guy can't come out till Monday. I got a hand spinner one out that I bought from Emergency Essentials and will have to try that out.

Quiet day today managed to get more of the back lawn cut as well as do washing so dirty clothes hamper isn't overflowing finally got to speak with the total loss claims agent who has been keeping me in loop through this whole claims process she went as far as even finalizing it today didn't get the amount I was hoping for due to $1,300 excess and remaining balance of $84 on insurance policy needing to be paid out but thankfully the $200 mobility allowance made up for lesser amount

So I've got in total $4,118 awaiting clearance that should be enough for upfront payment of the forester or even another vehicle that is capable of towing a trailer so just waiting on my car yard dealer to get back to me with any luck he has found a SUV or dual cab Ute to suit the payout amount or may even drop price on the forester due to having to sink money into a new power steering pump

Glad your accident issues will be just a memory soon!!

moved one of the propane stoves into the kitchen yesterday, there really isn't room for the other one so I am probably going to bake in it plus the wood stove. Will just have to watch the wood stove closely

Still miserably cold, have 2 stoves going already, and now we have a wind warning on top of it for tonight and tomorrow. I hope the stupid power doesn't go off again. We are still waiting on some parts for the solar. We have enough to run the propane stove ( it needs some electric for the oven to work, but very little ) and probably it is cold enough to not worry about the freezers, I will just unplug them and open a window in that room

we have been carrying and driving hot water buckets to the animals since their water freezes, so now my foot hurts again. I am really over this weather already and it's not even winter yet! My gosh, icetime anyone? Sure feels like it

Coffee, outside: heavy fog, if the old moisture in 90 days cycle holds, we will have a wet late winter (prolly snow)

Just finished feeding and watering the critters. The hydrant by the coop is frozen so we have to haul water down from the barn. This summer I'll dig it up and replace it. There was only about 3 or 4 inches of ice on the big water trough this morning, it was easily broken and removed.
Before next winter I'm going to buy a propane stock tank heater. That will provide water for the cows, horse, pigs, chickens and ducks. And hopefully no more hauling water in buckets.

I had the frozen chicken runs hydrant froze yesterday and it was a pain in the butt.
Not today, though. Thankfully. I hate hauling buckets.

It's the first of six days off for me. It's warmer than yesterday but very windy so I'm staying inside. GF bought a new mattress and box spring to replace her 17 year old ones and I'm going over there soon to help her when they're delivered. Then we have a gym date. I'm dealing with tennis elbow and a form of tingling/numbness in my hands plus tightness in my wrists so I'm thinking my workout won't be too strenuous. I'm a bit concerned by my hands. I had carpal tunnel many years ago at the window factory and this seems different. It's more annoying than painful...

Our barn is slightly uphill from the coop, so at least we're hauling water down hill. Last summer I put in a 350 gallon water tank in the new chicken run. I made a ramp for the chickens and ducks to reach the water. As long as I'm able to keep breaking the ice they are happy. We still have to haul water for the ducks since we lock up everyone up at night in the the small run and coop. Ducks like to drink and play in the water at night too.
