Just to let you know you can get #10 cans of long term food storage at the LDS canneries even here in California. There are a couple in each community. There is one a couple blocks from my folks' house in OC but the closest one to me is 20 miles a way.

There are also Honeyville stores and Food storage outlets around in Cali as well. The trick is not thinking it can't be found. You just need to look up the locations of the store fronts on the companies websites. Not to mention you can buy both Emergency Essentials and Augason Farms canned foods through Walmart's website for store pick up or free shipping. You just need to look for options and not think it doesn't exist in California.

I also want to mention that not all of California is just like the population centers like Los Angeles. I live out by the reservations but when we lived 10 miles up the mountain it was a very conservative town with more churches than bars and farms and orchards all around. Majority of the state is farms and ranches.
I grew up in a small town in the mountains of southern California. I agree that just about every small town is very conservative. Not a whole lot of farming left in so cal. Now that I live here in Idaho I would think of looking to the LDS for this type of stuff or even searching it out. I think what I was getting at is you have to look for it in California as here it is everywhere. Where I lived in CA it just wasn't talked about and nobody I knew seemed to care. How many people in the OC are concerned about prepping? I bet not alot. I lived in the OC for about 7 years. When I lived there I knew two LDS members tgat I worked with and one borrowed my camping and fishing gear and donated it to his ward, kinda gave me a bad taste.

How do you look up an LDS cannery?

On the LDS website. You can also buy #10 cans direct from their website. They are cheaper with shipping than the other long term food storage companies.

There is an OC Preppers Meetup group. They offer classes and social events as well as share information.

Over 500 members but then they advertise their events on facebook and other places and last I heard they had over a thousand people show up for their last social event.

I stand corrected but out of the 3.1 million that live there that is a very small percentage.

Off to get fabric, the going to sit sick Grand daughter who is running fever with teething.
She's cutting 4 at once, 2 top, 2 bottom.
She ate her first tater tot today.
Meaning she wallowed it, till it dissolved. Dog was happy.
She even had tater tot on her eyelid.
She spills out baby food.
I just give her some of what I'm eating.

I go to one that is fairly close to me. I was asked once if I knew about their beliefs and if I was interested. I told them I didn't believe their beliefs. It has never been brought up to me again, and I have been more than a dozen times. They are extremely helpful and they have really good prices.

I see that they have honey and peanut butter. That has not been a regular thing in the past. Peanut butter: 26 ounces for $4.00 is a fair price, IMHO. Their instant potatoes are really good, but have a limited shelf life. Since I am not doing carbs, and because of the shelf life, I only keep one pouch in my freezer. I have several cans of the potato flakes.

Try baby food muffins. Juju started pushing for solids by 6 months. I found a ton of baby friendly recipes and she ate them with vigor. I would make up a batch and bake about 6-12 at a time and keep them in the fridge. The remaining batter was portioned out on a lined cookie sheet and frozen for later use.

Here are a few of my go-to recipes for Juju. I found others but these were her favorites.

Thank you for the information.

Thank you for the information.

Not a problem.
I noticed with Juju that the more varied the foods I gave her the more willing she is now to try something even if it is green or 'different' unlike Roo who still fights when she has to eat veggies other than green beans.

Thing II came over for coffee this morning, had a nice long visit. Went to town, saw Ms Chen for awhile, She Good. Got some assorted Groceries. Found a Mountain House Freeze dried food I haven't tasted , so Bought that to try it. Italian Pepper Beef. MH usually does a good job. Grilled some Carne. Stopped by the 4X4 shop, putting together a list of parts for a suspension upgrade. Just another Day.

Power was off here for about 7 hours this morning. I never bothered to start the generator. Had to make my coffee on top of the stove. I learned the local cell tower does not have a power back up. No cell service until the power was back on again. I used the old-time house phone to call the electric company.

My Friends think Im crazy for having a Land Line. Great Back up.

Bought a few groceries on sale day at the local market. Went to post office. Signed up to volunteer to read to folks at our little hospital. (I have to wait and see if it is approved). Came home and made 3 bean salad and getting ready to grill some chicken, hamburgers, brats and hot dogs on the grill. Before it starts raining!

I do too, but getting rid of it would reduce my expenses.

My home town recently tore down their generator. When the dams were built on the Missouri River in the early 60s, they stopped using the generator that had been used for a few decades, except when the power went out. Then one of the public service men would drive over there and flip on the generator until the power from the dam came back on. We are talking about a small town that has varied in population anywhere from 800 to 2000 over my lifetime.

Personally, I think they should have left the generator there. But maybe the powers that be don't see things like I do. And maybe it was needing repairs and upgrades that were prohibitive.

Went on a treasure hunt today didn't find any treasure but we had a fine time!

Granddaughter had her American Heritage Girls pinewood derby car race today. Had some cleaning to do...emptied dehydrator of sliced tomatoes for powder and refilled it with more tomatoes. Still have more to do. Lots of laundry today. Cooked 6 whole chickens and froze the meat in individual packets that I use for tacos and casseroles. The whole chickens were 77 cents a lb. Son is working on a greenhouse/pullet run on our side yard. Sent twins to go work with him, while husband and I ran some errands at Lowes and the grocery. Another grandson will be 13 tomorrow and everyone is coming over for supper tomorrow to celebrate. He called and gave me his wish list menu (which has been slightly modified to include meat and something green). He requested: mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, mac and cheese, green chili cheese rolls, and german chocolate cake. I'm nixing the mashed potatoes and adding ham and some green vegetables. I'll be up early cooking.

Put up the big bird house today...filled hole with cement, broken blocks and dirt....should hold it....picked out some of our seeds to order for the garden....also strawberry plants...I need to stay away from $G...they have such cute garden stuff in....love the gnomes...we pulled up the old collards and kale today...the freeze did them in....

I finally took two down days this weekend, the first in about 3-4 weeks. Both wife and I have had the flu for the past several weeks (her MUCH worse than me). I've still been doing 40 hours at work, and then taking two classes in the evening plus working on my PhD Qualification Exam. All 3 vehicles need some work done (both outbacks leaking oil and the truck has an electrical issue). One at a time is expected, and even the rare double-tap is workable...but having all 3 in questionable shape at once is no fun.

I've also been driving the 1 hour (one way) trip to my parents a couple times a week. They had a chimney fire Christmas morning. The good news is, all said and done, the only thing that was damaged was the chimney. They have a poured liner in it that cracked under the intense heat, so now no more (functional) chimney. They were planning to get an insert put in within a couple weeks, but one of their two dogs had some back issues. Went from "fine" one day (more like "un-diagnosed") to paralysis of the back legs the next. They have ample means to pay for (reasonable) treatments, so they had her examined. 3 ruptured disks in the back. Vet performed the surgery, but the last several weeks have been hell on my parents as it's a 24-hour job to care for the dog. Catheter comes out Tuesday (hopefully) and they get an updated prognosis. Should start moving the back legs in a couple weeks if she's going to recover at all. If she won't be able to walk again, I suspect she'll be put down as mom and dad can't physically provide the quality of life she needs. The fact that her back legs are offline has no bearing on her energy level or willingness to try to drag herself through the house.

So, this weekend was just an "us" weekend. Wife got her hair done yesterday, and today we went out to see the new Star Wars and have lunch. In a little bit, we're going to go visit some friends for an evening movie, and then home to bed.

All our lives get too busy at some point or another. Don't forget to slow down and enjoy what's important in your life, my friends!
