...Seems she tried to brush Strawberry's teeth with her toothbrush.
Strawberry wasn't having it.
Toothbrush has been sterilized in hydrogen peroxided,
She didn't bite grand daughter, but I imagine she wanted to give her a little nip.
Finally got all the toothpaste off Strawberry's face this morning. It's also now out of her fur, tail.
...She tried to climb up to the top of my bed to get to Strawberry, cause she wants to kiss Strawberry.....Haven't seen Strawberry since grand daughter went home.
Went looking for her to make sure she was okay.
Sprawled out on my bed sleeping.
...And a golden nugget to brighten up my day:).
Thanks.
...And smooches to strawberry too!

We have been without showers, flushing, laundering, dish-washing, tooth brushing, handwashing etc since Monday. We are now scheduled to have someone there to get us some water between 8-9 tomorrow morning. Big prayers that they can get it all worked out. We are hauling water in jugs for the "necessities." This morning, I couldn't handle it and boiled some water to work on the dishes in the sink and washed most of them up "camping style." New thoughts in the way of water and preparedness. I think I will be looking into a larger water tank that I can keep full and use in the summer kitchen like I do the 5 gal. now. The gears in my noggin are a'spinnin'. Shhh don't tell hubby. He loves it when I get good ideas - heehee.
Actually, he usually agrees, but I usually need his assistance if it gets heavy. Water is roughly 8 lbs. per gal. Can you see the smoke coming from my ears?

Easy day today as neither of us slept well last night. Wasn't pain just couldn't sleep either of us.

So we woke this morning and did pretty much not a lot. I did get a loaf of bread on in the bread making machine. Then got a phone call for DH to go down to the local pub to give a donation cheque from the RSL to a local group who is setting up a veterans retreat. They supply firewood free of charge and deliver it to the local veterans in the area amongst doing a lot of social activities so a worthwhile cause. We had some nibblies down there that they supplied and I had some fruit and DH some fruit and cakes.

This afternoon DH watered the garden bed with the drip irrigation system as it only just needs to be damp on the surface to sprout the vegetable seeds we planted.

Tonight's dinner was sausages, steamed vegetables and an egg.

Don't know how you feel about herbs... Polygonatum biflorum – Solomons Seal

Single greatest herb for treating inflamed tendons and Ligaments, the root is used.

Here you can buy Solomons seal in two forms (they are out of chopped root)
https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/products/solomons-seal-root/profile
1. Extract (tincture) for taking in concentrated liquid form
2. Solomon's Seal Root Powder for making tea or your own capsules.

Solomons Seal has no known contradictions (conflicts with other meds or conditions). It’s been used by Native Americans for as far back as their histories go. I have used this plant for many years with great results, badly strained back, sprained wrists, ligament problems in my knees to name a few. I get strained ligaments and tendons very often. It will stop the inflammation and control the pain.

I keep two bottles of extract in my herb cabinet and grow it myself in pots on my porch. I only grow the most important herbs for my uses…

Peanut, I was going to skip the Spring planting this year but decided to go at again. So today I started to clean out and prep greenhouse. What a job, we had turned it into a storage area, not on purpose . I have two really beautiful Beauty Berry plants outside our fence next to GH I want to protect so back to clearing off fence on both sides.:gardening::fun fun:

Got the animals fed and done. Put grains on to soak, set up outside racks yesterday for fodder trays. Can put it all together tomorrow. Romanian came by again to return a tub he used when he bought two roosters. Bought another dz eggs I just picked up, and 10 lbs of wheat flour I milled. His wife is trying the wheat for the noodles and bread she makes and sells. Chopped cabbage for the dehydrator and got that going, three more chickens cooling that I cooked that will be deboned and put in the freezer. Need to grind more wheat and clean out our atrium. I did get a few large planters planted with lettuce seeds yesterday. We're still having hot weather, but next weeks is supposed to be cooler. Two loads of laundry done and hung.

Blessings...green tomatoes waiting to ripen on the vines...need to pull up the old kale and pepper plants today and get ready to add new soil and reseed with collard seeds so we will have collards late fall and into early winter months...the poor okra blooms but struggles, squash is gone, figs are trying, lots of them, but only a few ripen and they are quickly eaten....by me....LOL....jalapeno peppers still going....onions are kaput....strawberry bed is full of weeds that need pulled......a few dill plants have seeded since the caterpillars have thrived off of them...need to pick the seeds off and keep for next year....

Just went to lunch , 45 minute ride.
Wife is driving so I sightsee.

People been talking about armadillo showing up lately in West KY.
Well I started counting dead ones on the side of the interstate...in 35 miles I counted 8 .
Conclusion....yep armadillo are in West KY.

Jimgaah

My goodness, thats a lot of Armadillos ! We have them here too ,they like to aggravate the dogs by coming right up to the fence.

The tailgate latch on my early 90’s Silverado quit working. Normally one of the plastic tips on a rod breaks and the rod comes loose. Internet prices… the plastic tips are about $1.50. In my case part of the handle wore out and was no longer actuating one of the rods. I ordered a new latch assembly, 2 new plastic tips w/shipping $40, not a bad price.

The odds are one or both plastic tips will break during disassembly… better to have them than not, what’s $3 these days.

The surprising part… last night I found a dozen videos on youtube showing how to disassemble and reassemble everything. From 1988 until 1999 all chevy and gmc trucks used this same latch assembly so replacement parts were available from multiple vendors.

This morning I took off the handle cover so I can open the tailgate with a screwdriver until my new parts get here.

Possum on the half shell! Armadillos like to dig burrows in hay fields... On 2 occasions I've been thrown from a tractor seat because of a dillo den while raking hay. The only reason I wasn't thrown completely from the tractor was my grip on the steering wheel... I hate dillo's.

I shoot every whistle pig I can, guess I'm gonna have start watching for them dillos too
They must be related because they do the same damage.
Jim

Dillo’s are nocturnal, almost never see one during daylight. They are out right after dark though. They will have more than one den site. Just because you see sign at a den entrance doesn’t mean he’s there. Might be 300 yards away in another den that day.

Dillo’s are blind as bats, can’t see you 10ft away. But they hear and smell really well. The best way to catch one is trapping, unless you live next to a highway… They are always trying to prove to the chicken they can cross the road too.

Oh! Dillo dens can be 10 inches in diameter… break an ankle if you’re not careful.

This is glorious news, NEW TARGETS! They are reported to have a hard shell, better use the 45-70.:ghostly:

Cleaning out books to bring to the thrift store. Realized I have two copies of a book called, "Living without Electricity" by Stephen Scott and Kenneth Pellman. The back of the book says: This one of a kind book tells how and why the Amish live without inventions other people take for granted. If anyone wants it, just tell me where to mail it.

Picked up the daughter from school and told her she needs to shower before extra curricular activities. I'm cleaning while she reads in her room. Just hollered that it's time to shower...no answer. So I knock and walk and she's sitting there with wet fingernail polish on her hands. gaah Asked her if she would rather stink like a pig or have pretty nails...she's in the shower now. ;)

So happy for you @Amish Heart ! I know you will use your time wisely!

Long day yesterday and then Bible study last night.

Walked this morning, came home and made a double spoon bread for a funeral meal. Served and cleaned after at Church, then went up to Kroger for a few sales. Came home and made a meatloaf for DH, Teriyaki Chicken Bake for me and cooked some chicken for dog treats. I'm pooped!

Put up the 6 foot fencing around all my berry bushes and apple trees today. Made a wood gate to access the plants. Knowing the 6 foot fence was too low I added a single wire a foot above the fence to give me a 7 foot fence. Tied flagging strips on the top wire so the elk could see it.

Not a dang thing.
Hanging out with friend, crocheting as we were traveling.
My reward for having Hurricane Estelle an extra day.
Strawberry and I both slept in this morning.
We took much needed nap this afternoon.
She put herself to bed early tonight.
Guess Hurricane Estelle wore us both out.

We finally have water again- yay!!! I've done most of the dishes, a load of laundry, flushed the toilets, and SHOWERED- whoop! Whoop! A real shower is a true blessing. I think my goal will be to have a week's worth of water on hand. And by a week's worth, I mean washing dishes, bathing etc. I don't mean full fledged full bath etc., but enough to do dishes camping style or wash out a few clothing items by hand, and bucket baths. We have been hauling jugs of water and making due. Needless to say, I'm very grateful for our water today, but I have my work cut out for me.

This isn't related to Hurricane Dorian, is it?

I am wondering if this happens often? I wonder what options you might have to store water at home? 55 gallon blue barrels? I would consider your experience a test run for a more serious situation and a time to figure out how you might be able to prepare for even more serious events like this.

I know some places sell used pickle barrels. 55 gallon, black food grade plastic with screw top lids. I've considered getting a couple for the farm to use for rainwater catchment. Those barrels would do the trick for anyone who wants to collect water. I don't know if you'd get some pickle taste in it though...

You can get blue barrels that have had food in them, maybe corn syrup or other liquids. I have a few barrels. You can find them for little money or even free, watching Craigslist and Offer Up.
