What a day of trials!

It is pension day AND I had a very early appointment for my new physio.
It threw my entire routine out of wack and just as well it did.
Slept in and in a panic jumped in the car and..nothing.
Flat battery.
Put the battery on charge and raced back in side to check my accounts to see if my pension
had hit the bank yet.
YES!!
Paid rent, and bills but didn't have time to buy the dehydrator I wanted on-line.
Got the car started and was half an hour late for my physio appointment.
Appointment done and apologies made.
Went to an out door store to get a 9kg bottle filled with LPG.
We find out after it was filled the bottle was defective and leaking.
The people at the store refused to allow me to drive back home with a leaking bottle and they cracked the valve
and turned it upside down in a bucket of water to discharge which took over an hour.
They refused to refund the money I paid for the refill.
Went to Hungry Jacks next door while I waited for my bottle to discharge.
I left my VERY expensive dental plate on the tray and put it in the bin.
I realized that once I got back to the outdoor store.
Returned back to Hungry Jacks to ask the staff to dumpster dive to help me locate the dental plate.
Found it!
Imagine my extreme reluctance to put it back in my mouth until it has a good long soak in steri-dent.
Rung up the store that I brought my gas bottle from and explained that the bottle was defective.
They agreed to replace the bottle AND they gave me a free refill for nothing!
Thank goodness!
Returned back to home town to do shopping.
Went to the green grocers to buy cheap fruit and veggies and the car wouldn't start.
The battery was completely dead and wouldn't be jumped started by a nice man who saw I was having trouble.
I had to ring a battery store that had delivery and fitting service to come out and bring a new battery and fit it
in the parking lot of the green grocers.
Finally got home completely tired and very grateful.

If I had brought the dehydrator this morning like I wanted to I simply wouldn't have had to money to
buy the battery and I would still be stranded.
God has his hand on me and all day and with the trials I faced he is gently teaching me patience and tolerance.

Praise GOD.

Amen to that. I can see Gods hand in all that happened! It's got to the point in my life where it's easier to see him at work. I don't believe in circumstances cause everything happens for a reason.

Hello everyone and hope you have had a wonderful day :) .

We started off the morning with myself putting on a loaf of bread in the bread making machine and then we picking some lavender, thyme and sage and spent most of the day washing and hanging it to dry for household stocks and any excess to our needs will be sold on the internet for some extra income. Also we stripped the lavender and rosemary we had drying and put the lavender flowers and rosemary in a jars.

After we finished that DH washed the dishes and cleaned the kitchen benches and I wiped them and put them away and DH has just watered one side of the house with saved grey water from our showers and washing machine.

Tonight's dinner will be homemade pizza.

I'm sorry to hear about your day, and I'm glad that it worked out for you in the end! However, I do have a question from the perspective of the devil's advocate. It sounds as if you tried to buy the dehydrator as soon as you got your pension and that you wouldn't have been able to afford both it and a new car battery. Do you have any savings for a rainy day fund?

We frequently talk in this community about the risks of buying what we want (vs. what we need) and living paycheck to paycheck. I realize not everyone is able to build up a financial safety net, but given your post, I think that you can if you are selective in your purchases.

I realize that this may be an uncomfortable question, and so please don't feel obligated to respond. You certainly dont need to justify anything to me. I want to make sure you've been exposed to an alternative perspective, but only you know what the right decision is for your situation.

I keep having to log in and out up and down doing work. Thats a good thing tv screen doesn't stay on too long when not in use.

Have to do more work upstairs put things up and good cleaning and dusting. Bathe dogs and clean off porch they turned into dog house which is good since now they don't come inside since they have heat lamp and their own screen door to go in and out. No more DOORMEN job for us. :woo hoo::thumbs up:. Plus old dog is happy beign close to us.

Wow, what a day indeed. Sounds like you kept your focus on the important in the end. Wishing you a better day tomorrow

Up and rolling around on my knee scooter. Really tough on my knee, though. We found some nice T-bone steak on sale at Sam's club yesterday, so I got them in the freezer. One is completely enough for me and honey-do for a meal. I mnaged to peel around 5 lbs of apples for slow cooker apple butter and am using the peels for pectin. Now sitting resting the scooter knee. I sure dont want that messed up!

I think it was this forum I read a tip to use tp and pt tubes as seed starter pods and it's working great! They stay moist and the poster who mentioned it also said it can deter some pests when planted. I started some Swiss chard and mustard greens.

I remember being the "second choice event" quite often when I was younger. Not a good feeling! Those who reneged were usually not invited back! Sorry it has happened to your daughter.
I totally agree with you. They have been very good friends for 20 years and have traveled Europe a couple times and other worldly places. My daughter was willing to give her weekend for her friend, but that doesn't seem to be good enough.

Going to take a nap.
Strawberry is already snoring in my ear.
Day off or not I get up at 0400 hours.
Get quite a bit done.
Normally would have bread rising.
But trying Keto, not really liking it right at this moment.
Would rather have the home made fresh from oven bread.
Fresh baked peanut butter cookies.
I would rather have home made fresh bread from the oven as well, but it is so hard to keep the weight off.

I have been knowing that my car battery needed to be replaced for the last week or so. It almost didn't start when it was colder a few days ago. I have been busy, but finally had time to go get a new battery on Wednesday. I went to the auto parts store where they do the installation as well, as they should. The man put in the new battery and hooked it up. As soon as the second connector was on, the car alarm went off. I haven't used the alarm for quite a while because it is too sensitive, going off in parking lots wherever I parked while I was shopping. Because I hadn't used it for so long, I didn't know where the alarm fob was. I walked a mile home, looked for it and couldn't find it. I walked back and found it in the console, at the bottom, under flashlights, etc. If I hadn't found the fob, I would have been stuck without a vehicle, but could have used one of my daughter's, but she is uber busy and had to be somewhere more than an hour away early in the morning. I felt so relieved to have the new battery and the alarm turned off.

I would rather have home made fresh bread from the oven as well, but it is so hard to keep the weight off.
Just got 45 pounds left to lose. Already lost over 145 pounds over 4 years.
When I lose the last 45 pounds I will be in the middle of my Army weight.
Have lost several clothing sizes.
Went from 26 to 16 or 18 depending on cut.
Sometimes even get into 12 or 14 depending on cut of garment.
Lost that weight by cutting out processed foods, soda, eating out a lot.
So if I wanted bread, had to make it. Noodles, had to make it.

@MoBookworm1957 well done on the weight loss and I do agree it is harder to keep weight off after we are a certain age as our metabolisms slow down. Keep up the great work :D .

Personally I have always had the opposite problem and fought hard to try and keep the weight on but now I am getting older it seems to be putting me finally at the correct height weight ratio.

@AdmiralD7S I will answer your question which is @Tank-Girl is on an Australian pension as we are, but we are on a higher pension as a joint couple as DH's pension is through the military because of injuries.

Here in Australia most pensioners battle simply to put food on the table let alone pay other expenses or save and it is very hard for most as our rents here are so high for accommodation should you not own a home. Those on old age pensions unless they supplement their income with interest from personal savings don't turn on heaters in winter as they can't afford to do so and many don't eat properly either.

Ideally and fortunately in our case we do have savings. I do know that @Tank-Girl is very self sufficient and does well with all the resources she does have available to her.

Thank you, SC.
This 100% correct and had me in tears as I read it.
As you know I do save for items and large bills.
A dehydrator is a want and not a need so if I have money in the budget outside the mandatory saving amounts it would have gone on that.
As it happened a new battery for the car and not the dehydrator took precedence.
You CAN speak about my situation because you actually know me.

@Tank-Girl and most welcome :D as it is all true. I always look for the blessings in every situation and in this case it is that your car battery went before you bought the dehydrator. Having a lower income such as ours, just makes you more ingenious about how you use the resources you have and teaches you to make do and be satisfied with what you have. We also work on a want versus need scenario.

It doesn't matter where you live, if you haven't been able to prepare for old age retirement, it's that way. I have an itch for lot's of wants, but no scratch!

What a wonderful day it's been! Blue sky, 65°,light Southerly wind. This morning I completed insulating the pump house after installing the water treatment equipment. Last fall while clearing the place to build,we built several brush piles out in the woods. Today we drug several of them to the yard and burned them as we brought them out. By dark we had a good bed of coals sooo......

There's a house I found a couple of years ago that I wanted to buy but NH said no because it is a little too far out for him. (He used to commute a long ways and doesn't want to do that again). It has been sitting all this time. There have been a couple of contracts on it but they fell through due to cold feet of buyers.

It had a little remodeling and some of the land was worked on to make it smoother. The price has gone down. One of our young uns and I both have jobs in this area where we live now; the house is almost an hour away from here. I don't think we could both get our work schedules to fit one another and the employers and NH says NO.

The house is not fancy at all. In fact, it is in need of some upgrades that aren't really necessary and it was built about 18 years ago. Some of the flooring needs replacing, but it is a nice size and on an acre out and away from the hubbub.
It is between 15 and 20 minutes to the nearby town/city, in the opposite direction of where we work.
Right now our other option is renting, which would be near our jobs and friends, but probably twice the cost of the mortgage payment.
Due to demand of housing, the costs of housing have risen in this area, even though what you're getting is not really worth it.
For some reason, I really like the house. I don't know why, plus I think it is a really good deal. I don't even want to live in this state, but I'd live there.
