I've spent the last 4 days sitting in the hospital with my dad. He is having open heart surgery in the morning. He's always lived a very clean physical fit lifestyle. He is 69 and doesn't look a day older than 50. This is the 3rd heart attack in as many months in my immediate family. Started with my father in law then me and now my dad 2018 thats just about enough!

Prayers sent

Thinking about Hashbrowns dad this mornng,
Going into any surgery can be very upseting,

Praying that it is going well.

Tank Girl, as a recipient of 2 MAJOR heart attacks, and now carry a defib/pacemaker in my chest,

Glad your getting to see a cardiologist, hopefully, before too much damage.

I never had any warnings until it was too late.
That was 21 years ago and I'm still kicking...just not as high.

@Sunshine Assassin's Creed is one of my DH's favourite games and he is playing syndicate at the moment :) . What is your favourite part of the game ?, DH likes exploring and collecting.
I'm definitely a completionist. I just need 100% on everything lol. I'm looking forward to black flag. Then I have to upgrade my console because it's the last 360 game available. But with summer and a busier schedule with animals and garden it may be a good time to take a break.

The poor man's got too much wrong with him. We just go in a number of times a year to re evaluate and change meds, and he has some lung procedures done. He is supposed to have surgery in about a month, but not in Denver, at home. We are being referred to a better than Albuquerque surgeon in Denver about the cyst in his spine area. Will meet with him maybe the next trip to Denver when he gets more lung stuff done. This trip we saw the lung specialists, surgeon, heart doc, sarcoid expert, allergy doc, cardiologist, and some more I'm forgetting. He's all tired out now and ready to go home.

Sorry Amish for all yall are going through .

Huge, long tiring, painful day.

Pension day means shopping day.
I finally brought my dehydrator!
YES!!
I brought new windscreen wipers for my car. I went though a heavy rain shower and I couldn't see a darn thing even with the wipers going as fast
as they could.
Went to a massive hardware store called Bunnings to buy a new bow saw to cut down a tree that is growing too close to the house.
Brought some copper pipe to make colloidal copper and a flint spark producer from the welding section to light my gas stove so I don't have to keep buying matches.
Brought a 20kg bag of rough grain mix for the chickens.
Stopped by the new green grocers to get cheap fruit and veges.
A trip to the supermarket to buy pantry staples and 8 bags of mixed frozen veggies to put in my dehydrator once it turns up.

Had to stop a tried not to panic as I had huge pain in my chest just right of mid-line ..my heart squeezed very tight and then beat very slowly and laboured for about twelve beats.
I came good after a rest and drove home and had a lay down.

Be careful.
Far as wipers we keep buying them and even the expensive ones don't last.

I will have a good thought and prayer for your dad, you and your family. As well as everyone here who is in need of healing and protection.

@Meerkat you are right the more expensive windscreen wipers are not better quality as with us here with most things including car parts we buy the least expensive things that "will do the job". For instance we use high ankle military style canvas leather boots for gardening work due to snakes and here they are normally approaching $150 - $200 a pair and the soles crack through in 6 months, we purchased them on eBay for $35 - $38 a pair and these are so comfortable and good wearing and the soles haven't cracked through either. They are all made in China nowadays anyway so we just purchased them from there and now we can buy 5 pairs for the cost of one pair if we purchased them here.

Dearer products definitely don't equate to better quality and longevity in all things.

Crazy week. Everything came together today. My OS Homies, showed up, confirmed and put everybody on notice. Great week. Nubes are trained, they getin it now. My work is done there. Mission Complete. New Assignment, next week. Time for Grillin and Beer. God is Faithful. More when Im rested. I Love You All.

I agree. When we built our house, money was flowing but yes, bad decisions were made. He fell in love with this red dually and had to have it. ( has 3 just like it in boneyard) More money borrowed to buy himself cows and then he borrowed more to buy a bull dozer. It was not my choice and I don't want to sound bitter, but am very disappointed. He has always had money and at one time he was a good manager. Not anymore. We are trying to get out of all of that, but I know that a lot will not be paid off in my lifetime. When he broke his leg, had surgery, had knee replacement and was disabled for 18 months it was a struggle 15 years ago and I paid bills with a credit card. The house started as a barn, then became barn with living quarters and then a house. Our house was paid for that we were living in on his land on other side of county. The new house was near my property and is totally wheel chair available. He sold his cows when he needed money and then borrowed and bought more. He just knew he could make money using the bulldozer ( no trailer to haul it) even though every guy laid off from oil field has a bull dozer now. I can't say I told you so. Every time he mentions Divorce, I am almost relieved. Of course after almost 45 years I have heard it a lot. Here I am venting about personal stuff on a public site. Life insurance wont pay off all the bank notes. My truck and tractor will be paid off in 5 months but wont even pay truck payment if it is not repossed next months. I read on here about people who work together and I think it is great that you can. We can't and don't. He has come to appreciate my pantry now. Except when he finds I can't keep it stocked like I did and he is a little wasteful. Sorry for long explaination!

That is all really tough. Honestly, I couldn't live like that. I would prefer a 20 year old vehicle with no payments than a brand new vehicle with payments like that. We are all different. I read, maybe here somewhere, that in every marriage there is a spender and a saver. I am not sure that is true.

I think it may be true in most divorces. In successful marriages, there has to be a consensus on spending and savings.

Spent a long, long day in the hospital with husband. Another two days there to go, and then back home. Am getting alot of reading done this trip; finished the 2nd Prepper Chicks book. A great plot, but she went a little hog wild with the cussing in this one.
Enjoyed meeting Weedy Garden over Mexican food tonight! We lady preppers are awesome!

Amish, I totally missed this thread this week. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you and your husband and look forward to seeing you again, in Denver or New Mexico.

I haven't been on this thread all week so I am just seeing this post.
Does a person need to be cured of "Yellow Fever?" Or should you embrace it?

Getting ready to start a full Keto diet again on Monday. I have been eating the odd muffin or adding sugar to my coffee as of late. I wanted to get this stuff out of my house and just decided to eat it myself.

I added a few new books to our family library. Mostly classics like Swiss Family Robinson. Hardcover of course. I would love to have a wall of books in the house.

I love the look of that bookcase.

I continue to purge, and I still have a long way to go. I took a couple bags to the thrift store today. I continue to purge books as I have been doing for years. I prefer to donate books to Goodwill and other stuff to a local charity store whose store is run by volunteers. All their profit goes toward educational endeavors--providing school supplies and one outfit per student whose family makes a request.

I got some grocery shopping done today. I have been looking for new summer clothing. I have lots of summer clothes, but haven't done much shopping in a few years. It is time to clean out the worn summer clothes and to replace them with new clothes. When I drop off my thrift store donations, I also look through their racks.

All the clothing my wife and I have come from thrift stores! We love to shop at them. After a while we have to much stuff around so we recycle it back through the thrift store again.
After you wear something once,it's used anyway!

Took my 3 grandsons out for fish dinner tonight.

Love them boys.
The oldest is 16 yr old, and is 6' 4 1/2" at 240 lbs.

Got my onions in the grd last night after supper. Finished in the dark. I just want to plants beets and a few tomatoes this year. We're not up to much more. We're going to a little town just east of here and purchase some pecans. $9 per lb, but already shelled and clean. Our trees didn't make any thus year. Then a quick WM run on the way back. The rest is close by and house stuff. Trying to refrain from buying chicks until after hubs back surgery and recovery.

I have onions sets on my shopping list.

I grow some stuff in my yard, but also have a plot in a community garden. I wish there were more cooperative gardens, and actually have known of a few. It is a group effort. It takes the right people, willing to roll up their sleeves and work side by side, and then to share the produce. More than a decade ago there was one in my home town, but I live too far away to participate. I knew several people who were involved and not one of them was a slacker. They all have had gardens in their own yards. The land where the garden was on was once an college experiment farm, probably 80 acres where ag students learned about farming practices.

Came home from Colorado to find 7 baby chicks hatched. Ducklings arriving on Tuesday. The twins are at music camp all weekend, so husband and I have the day to ourselves. Going out to breakfast, and possibly Cabellas. Would like to stop in at the range. We'll see how he feels. Tomorrow is a grandson's birthday dinner here, so the crew will all show up. He is turning 11. Has requested fish, mashed potatoes, and chocolate cake.

How exciting to have baby chicks! How many ducklings will you be getting?

We are getting 15. Never raised ducks before. We have the new outdoor run completed, except the roof. It's the biggest run we've done so far, so it's taken quite a bit of work. Our son's girlfriend is out of town this weekend, so he said he'd finish it off. Although, they'll be in the house in the brooder for a while. So far, two brooders in the kitchen. One with 2 weeks old silkies, one with the new 7 that hatched. I just brought in a big tub to set up for the ducks. Son has 40 eggs in his incubator due I think Monday. We'll see. He was gifted his incubator, and it doesn't hold temp well. Oh, and those two turkey pairs we set up for breeding (a slate pair and a palm pair)...the palm pair had their first egg yesterday! Snatched it up for breakfast. I'll wait a couple of months till both pairs are laying and see if I can incubate some. The baby silkies will be traveling to Kansas with us to give as a gift to my favorite cousins grandsons. I've been giving them a few here and there, and they are excited for some new blood. Building a silkie army. Ha.

I ordered a green metal garden cart off eBay yesterday. Holds 660 pounds. EBay had a 20% off coupon for anything over $25.00 for one day. Only paid $55.45 including shipping. Probably pay a kid something to help put it together, but now the kid can clean out the goat shed (more money). And I can haul bags of dirt and mix around for my lick tub garden. Won't get it in until about the fist of April, but that is fine.

This morning I have already vacuumed and done the one load of laundry that needed doing. Still have to make white chocolate chip cookies for DH and a Chicken Pot Pie for dinner. And list a couple of pairs of jeans on eBay.

Snappy, check out "wick tub planting". This is a better way to use the lick tubs. I had no success at all just putting holes in the tubs and filling with garden soil. I attended a seminar on the wicking tubs. His plants with amazing! If I ever do it again, this is what I will be doing.
