My dad told me I was fixing the turkey.
Mom always fixed the turkey when she was alive.
She's been gone little over year now.
Dad doesn't know how to fix a turkey.
I don't know how to fix a turkey.
Youngest sister and youngest niece are vegetarian.
Alton Brown has a great turkey recipe. We have been doing the turkey like this for several years and it always comes out perfect. Jucy, fast, and easy. 15 minutes of prep and around 2.5 hours of cooking time.
We do leave out some of the brine ingredients like the allspice berries and candied ginger. Also no cinnamon.

Thanks for the information.
Will look it up.
Now big of turkey do I need for 3 adults and 1-3 year old?
10 pounds?
Bigger?
I for see lots of turkey, noodle soup in my future.Turkey casseroles?

If you don't want leftovers use 1 pound per person. If you like left overs, who doesn't, then at least 2 pounds per person.

Well, you can freeze or can cooked turkey, make soup or broth and can that. I have a weeks worth of turkey sandwiches in the fridge after turkey and the rest gets canned. I share with my wife but others don't get none! ;)

Last time I had my eyes dilated was well over 10 years ago. I got nauseous & had a headache, so I know how that goes. I think the nausea was bc some of the stuff for the eyes spilled out and dripped down to my mouth & I got a taste of it. I really need my eyes checked again but I don't have insurance & it's expensive here.

I went on a grocery trip with my brother. Mom gave us a shopping list. First stop was Samsclub but they were out of some of the things on the list. Not sure if they discontinued them or what. Went to the Walmart up there & found they were out of a lot of stuff we normally find there. Had to hit the local Walmart to get some of the stuff we couldn't find there, but there were quite a few items on the list that were not at any of the stores.

Mom wanted a sandwich from Subway so I get to nap for a little bit before having to make dinner.

Many people love all the things you can make with the leftovers. I have heard of people who will not eat leftovers, but do the people who don't eat leftovers do any cooking?
I am a creative cook.
Roast, potatoes, carrot chunks and whatever needs used up, is roast first day.
Second day the leftovers become stew or soup.
If it becomes stew, then the third day it becomes miniature pot pies for the freezer.
Same with just about everything I cook.
I work real hard not to waste anything.
Whether it's food, clothes, yarn.
I have maybe one 13 gallon trash bag of stuff every week.

Today was planned as a day off, but work called and ate up half of it. Had a dentist appointment in the middle of the day, which didn't help productivity. I was able to turn the soil in the front flower bed, add some bone meal, and plant lilies and daffodils so that should give us 24 feet of color come spring. I also planted some garlic sets. I tried to mow all the leaves so I could compost them over the winter, but I ran out of day light.

Reminding me that I have more bulbs to plant.
Husband and I took lesson #1 of Penn Dutch speaking. Ordered the book and dictionary. I can decipher some of what's said, but it doesn't help my mama never taught me her first language. Have an essential oils gathering to go to tomorrow am, and need to pick up my cousins to go. Ground a bin of rice flour for the hostess. Waiting for Biden to "speak". Hmm. Am curious.

Thank you for the reminder for bone meal. I have more bulbs to plant and I need bone meal to add to the soil.

I'm the same, and I eat leftovers. Chicken bones and beef bones are made into bone broth.

Mo maybe check out just a turkey breast instead of a whole turkey. Wife gets those for us at times. May or may not be enough for your group. Maybe do 2 for leftovers.

Back to work today and was slammed. Found out yesterday that we are going to get to hire my new tech. Talked to the girl in HR today and while we were talking the guy called her and accepted the offer. So now comes the background check, physical, and drug screen. He may get to start as early as the week after Thanksgiving. Also my tech that was quaratined got to start back today. No one in his family ended up with Covid thankfully.
Downside one of my other guys came in to talk to me and told me his wife is being tested for liver cancer. Prayers for them please. They are both in their 50's, way too young to be dealing with that.

Don't know why I stayed up to hear Biden's speech. He will stop the virus. He wants everyone to be Americans and everyone get along. He has hope for the future.
My views about him? He can't stop the virus. If he wanted everyone to get along, why hasn't he acted like that the last four years? Why has Kamala encouraged violence to the right, and they both gave Antifa (a thought) and BLM their stamp of approval? Kamala even said she will go after Trump supporters. This is not getting along. So, what, he thinks they'll win and wants everyone to go along with it quietly?

He is so ********. And I'm not even pro Trump. But this guy is crooked scum.
Maybe I should of put this in rants. I'm really tired of politicians. Now, on with prepping.

To distract myself from the politics I've been listening to music. I never saw The Nightmare Before Christmas but I love a capella groups & love the bass singing, so I've been playing this over and over. It's nice & upbeat.

They have good facial expressions. Rachel's facial expressions are great. Layne (beatbox guy) really sets the pace & Geoff (the bass) helps add to the beatbox a bit & has some highlights. It's not usually my style of music but I enjoy this one. Their "Oogie Boogie Man" song is good too.

Not my cup of tea either, @zannej !
Weedy, I love French bulldogs, so cute. Never had one.
Last year I got really sick from Thanksgiving dinner, so this year it is back at my house again. Besides, two of my sons say I'm the only person they know who knows how to cook Thanksgiving the way it is supposed to taste. Their wives agree. I guess I'll have to teach them how to do this so I can go to their place in a couple years.
:ghostly:
Eating leftover turkey, sure, but there's never enough homemade gravy!
I freeze some of it, always make turkey potpie (do not like the way turkey soup tastes ever), turkey casserole, turkey sammich, cold turkey, turkey tettrazini, turkey milkshake no i'm kidding. But one of my brothers had a broken jaw at thanksgiving with his mouth wired shut and had to have his thanksgiving meal put through the blender, poor thing.
Very busy for you still, Bacpacker. Sorry your co-workers and crew are experiencing so many difficult circumstances. Liver cancer is awful. Good to hear you'll hopefully have a new crewman.
I started feeling bad last night and all day today was not peppy. No fever.

Yep.
My youngest son got in chest freezer looking goodness know what.
Found chicken bones, I hadn't turned into bone broth yet.
He was horrorified that I had chicken bones in my freezer.
I find it amusing, also stay out of my freezer.
No telling what you will find.

Strawberry is snoring, deeply with her head on her pillow.
She has been walked, fed, loved on.
So she crawled over to her chair, laid her head on her pillow, sighed great big.
Went to sleep.
Dab of dishes are done.
Will be larger Air Fryer back to Wal*Mart today.
Ordered a smaller one, so hopefully I won't re injure left wrist.
Felt wrist snap with splint on trying to use bigger Air Fryer.
Sipping coffee, .
While at Wal*Mart will look at Turkeys, pick up produce too.
I have my car this weekend.
Normally oldest son and oldest grand daughter Estelle have it.
But he went to overnights, now my car is with me.

@MoBookworm1957

Pot pies sound excellent!

Gonna tell The Princess now.

Ben
My pot pies are actually in small tart foil pans, or regular size tart pans.
Also make up miniature quiche for the freezer in small foil cake pans.
Then when I'm done making everything up, goes into dishpan with said label(luggage tag) into freezer.
Usually have about 25-35 miniature meals in that dish pan in freezer.
Sometimes more.
Like to make my version of hot pockets too.

I like this idea of putting like things into a dishpan. It depends for me. Some smaller bags go into a gallon sized bag. I've been going through and organizing some stuff, and my freezer needs a go through.

Fixin to head to the Man Cave to work on some leather ideas. Not sure if I'll actually finish anything, except maybe a couple mask straps to keep the loops off my ears.

Want to make a tomahawk blade mask with a spike cover too, now that I have the small bungee cord to link the two...

Later tonight, might make some Chicken Sausage Penne Pasta Italiano for dinner.

Another good day for the concrete floor project.

Concrete now stretches across the full front of the house.

Viewed from the first floor.

That leaves us an odd-ball corner and a small section where the cement mixer has been sitting and will include a drain to handle condensate from the HVAC and leaks when the water heaters fail.
Then we finish of some support pillars and fix some termite damage before we start to install the flooring.

Getting somewhere.

Now maybe some of Y'all can help me fig-ure out if I have a chance this year.

I am probably going on about 8 years hoping to get ripe figs from a fig tree. While I did a woman at a Mother Earth News convention that showed me figs that she had grown locally, I have yet to gather any myself.

But today I noticed I have 3 that may make it this year if the cold is delayed.

So...

Do I have a chance?

Thanks in advance!

Ben
