Cleaned the house today, and got depressed. Looked at the nearest ski area, mostly open, nice slopes, not crowded, and cried for probably about 5 minutes :-( I have decided to do something really drastic, to see if I can somehow manage to ski again. I am going on a diet and getting down to the bottom of my acceptable weight limit ( the lowest I can be without being underweight) . This should put less stress on my foot and maybe it will get better. I know many of you on here have serious health problems and this probably sounds silly , but sports and exercise have always been a huge part of my life, and now that I can't do it, it really is making me depressed. I spent a lot of time watching stupid Netflix now when I used to do things like step aerobics, or take the dog for a run. I am out of crap to watch I like. Can you believe that? Any suggestions? I seem to have watched it all. I like soap operas , crime type stuff, science fiction , horror, action. I don't like disease movies, hospital stuff or reality tv.
thanks for listening. I need to find some Christmas spirit somewhere. This is especially hard since we used to always go skiing on Christmas day. Last time was 2018.
The Princess and I started to watch dystopian movies like 1984 Mad Max but that was depressing. So we watched the entire Star Wars movies along with The Mandolorian series. But this time of the year we traditionally watch all of the Tolkien movies and throw in" Viva Los Vegas" with Elvis Presley and Ann Margret.

Bye bye Birdie
Grease

Both of those have an old and new version.

A little perk - I have no idea where you are, but you get to the top end of your "acceptable weight" and if you are in the NW, we can go skiing :) (I'm really not a psycho weirdo - well maybe don't ask too many people 😂 ) I just like to encourage folks to be healthy!!!!! Just do one little thing to feel better, then know for each little thing you do to feel better will make you feel even better than that. Think of how good it will feel to feel good! Prayers for improved health!
(I haven't had TV for 20 years so can't help you there other than old Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies etc.)

Ok, now me being more weird...I never liked Star Wars or LOTR....lol ( do like Star Trek) . But love Elvis, been to Graceland , have a few of his movies. My favorites GI Blues and the one in Hawaii

You are on the other side of the country....we used to always go ski in Stowe ( Vermont) , closest area to us now is either NC or WV, but they are fairly small. I don't have any health problems I am aware of , just my foot ( had a bad accident last year) . Not sure losing weight will fix it but it's worth a try. I cut half of it off, they sewed it back on. We don't have a tv either, but I do have a laptop and Netflix :)
Where do you ski? My favorite place out west would probably be Jackson Hole , or Santa Fe

https://www.stowe.com/the-mountain/mountain-conditions/mountain-cams.aspx
we used to drive up there all the way from Florida every Christmas and ski , almost guaranteed snow, but you have to be able to ski on ice fairly well, it gets really cold there

Just saw the back side of the Tetons over Thanksgiving. We have several within somewhat reasonable traveling: Schwitzer in No. Idaho, Bluewood (very small, least fav.), Anthony Lakes (small but nice), Bachelor - Bend, OR, Mt. Hood - OR (a great choc. mousse cake in their restaurant), Brundage - McCall, ID. I don't know what others off the top of my head. We used to get season passes at Anthony but have moved since then. This year, we were going to get season passes at Schwitzer this year but not sure with all the hoopla going on. I've not skied at Brundage so that's on our list for this year. Hubby is a 3xblack diamond. I can do a black diamond but sure like those green circles 😂

The Tetons are beautiful!! I am so glad I got to go there in the past. LOL, I have skied my whole life (grew up in Germany) , I stay away from the green ones, too many beginners get in the way...but mote point now as I can't ski at all. Husband skies too but he didn't learn until mid 30s ( after we were married) and kids both snowboard and are both really good ( learned as kids). I tried snowboarding once, and it was a total disaster. I went nowhere, fell forward, fell backwards, gave up....hahaha good times .
About the blacks, it depends totally what ski area you are at, they are only ranked for that ski area. I rarely skied blacks at Stowe ( too tiring! ) but mostly stuck to the blues. But in smaller areas like the ones in WV I only skied the black because they other ones are not fun. Plus there is the issue of the snow. I can ski any black out west because the snow is different ( no ice at all , much slower) but in New England, a black will wipe me out if it's icy. We went skiing in Maine once and it was sort of a nightmare ALL ice. I can't say I enjoyed it much. What is the NW like? Icy or fluffy snow like New Mexico or Colorado? We have been to Washington State but in summer. I really like the Olympic NP.

Play some inspiring music and get up off that thing and dance. I can't hear music that inspies me with out moving.Maybe ski a little at a time. You didn't say what your injury is .
Last good modern Christmas we liked was " Four Christmases'.

It varies year by year of course, but generally speaking good snow. Powder days usually happen in the middle of the week when we're at work. 😜 Obviously, the higher mountains usually have better snow.

Also, I ordered peanuts for seed today - 2 kinds 😊 I need to rummage through the baker creek catalog and find a few things.

This evening got a little off track, I was planning to do a lot of cleaning and work on the garden (Adjusting container height and transplanting some peas), but the wife decided to replant her African Violets and that ate into my time. She has the energy to start projects, just not enough to finish them. We started with 3 plants and ended up with 7. She has been growing them for a long time and now we are having trouble finding pots big enough for her larger plants.

As I was checking my growing station I noticed that the temperature under the lights is now running about 10 degrees above that of the house. I did adjust the height of some of the containers, but I did not have time to do the cleaning or the transplanting.

The pup is 6 months old now, and still growing (60lbs). He got his first bath today with flea shampoo. No biggy, when little he'd always stick his head passed the curtain of my walk-in shower and try to lap up shower water. I had to shoo him to keep him out...

So he actually enjoyed himself today. The bathroom floor was soaked (I got everything out of the room before hand). He thought up a new game, "slide across the bathroom floor and into the shower" would be a good name for it, or "bowling for Peanut". He knocked me down twice... I had 6 towels from the scrap rag box ready also. He loves the "dry the puppy" game also. Soooo... He had a great afternoon. Then I got me a long shower an everything mopped up. Just now tossed the old towels into the dryer after a heavy wash cycle, they'll be ready for the next time.

Next I drove over to a great lookout point to check out Saturn and Jupiter. I watched a beautiful sunset first. Oh! yesterday I put a new tarp on the chicken coop. That's about it for the past 2 days...

Got my test results back today. Still negative...after over a week being around my wife that has Covid.
They are beginning to figure out how some people seem to have 'unexplainable' immunity to covid. (meaning they can be around a contagious person and not be infected)
One that they have noticed are people that have had the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella).
Wikipedia said:
The MMR vaccine is widely used around the world, with over 500 million doses having been given in over 100 countries as of 2001.[9][10] Measles resulted in 2.6 million deaths per year before immunization became common.[10] This has decreased to 122,000 deaths per year as of 2012, mostly in low-income countries.
Vaccinations for other viruses are also suspected in playing a role in making some people immune.

On topic: Saw a full-grown possum on my 10pm walk. We both stopped walking and stared at each other for a minute, then we both walked away muttering: "so, he lives here too".

Discovered this afternoon Juju likes to climb on top of the cat litter cabinet at the top of the stairs. This is bad because it is next to the railing on the landing and she could go over the railing and fall to the first floor. K and I moved the cabinet into my room. Now I have 3 litter boxes hidden in various furniture in my room. I may have to find a new place for the cabinet in the den.

Got wrapping done but not all of it. K helped a small bit.

LOL If I could dance, I could ski.....I cut off half my foot, now I can't bend it , can't run, can't fit my foot into my ski boots, and it hurts every day more than a year later. If I walk too much, the scar cracks and it bleeds. I can barely do our farm work. Oh and cold makes it much worse. I would try skiing down our road if we got snow but as I said, can't get my foot into the ski boots. Sorry probably TMI but thanks for the thought. Everyone I know tells me I should just be thankful to be walking and I am, but the Christmas thing got to me...sorry I will shut up now

I have already ordered seeds too but for some reason they were out of lettuce and a few other things I wanted. Never tried to grow peanuts. I think it might not be warm enough here for that. We are in zone 5

Dinner ! :) ( the possum)

if people immune to MMR don't get it, I should be immune, I had those actual diseases as a child. Still had immunity in college ( had to get tested to prove I didn't need the vaccine)
Plus we got vaccinations for every disease there is one for when we went to India about 6 years ago

Just after I started study at the University as an adult in 89, I got called into the health office just before a Calculus final exam, they regave my all my vaccinations on the spot as my records were too old/non-existant, I passed out halfway through the exam. I hate shots..... but it might be a good thing now. Always look for a silver lining. ;)

It said zone 3-9 (I was surprised by that).

I've been immunized. And I've had mumps. And I had covid. I think some people are immune, and that is not acknowledged. And early in the year, herd immunity was discussed, and now it's not discussed, because the govt is pushing the vaccine. Even if you've had covid. And the excuse is, it's like the flu where you have to be vaccinated every year, and maybe the vaccine for the flu isn't the right one for the year anyway. I've never been vaccinated for the flu. The grandkids did not get covid. Two of them are 15, and one is 9. They stayed in close quarters with us for a week. Mom has been directly exposed twice, once by a nurse in her apartment, and once from us, and thankfully has not gotten it. My cousin and her family...she got it, husband only got cold symptoms a week later, and no one else got it.....seven more people. It's all hit or miss. And a small percentage get hit hard.

Getting ready to move furniture out of the family room. And put the Christmas tree somewhere else. Husband ordered a hospital bed yesterday so he could be more comfortable, and find out that they are in stock and delivering two of them (that can be pushed together when our add on is complete). So they will be here in a few hours, and I have a couch, a folding bed, a Christmas tree, a queen bed that all need to be put somewhere else. Hmm.

Today is gonna be semi busy.
Waiting on the health dept to call with my test result. Never was good at tests.

Gotta be at Walmart to pickup Grocery order at noon.

Gonna be riping CDs to computer, to transfer to a flash drive , so I can listen to them in the new car, as new cars don't have CD players anymore.

Lunch will fit in somewhere...I think she mentioned Subway.

I'm a blessed person.
Shelter , clothing ,food , and a great wife .

Hope y'all are all blessed like me.

Jim

@Amish Heart ,

ain't it wonderful that we are able to do all the things we need to do.

I forgot to mention good health.(sorta)

Jim

Got my test results back.

I'm covid free , no covid. I'm negative.

Now you tell me if my wife tested positive last Friday , we been in close contact since then, if , if she was positive , btw no symptoms , how did I not get it.

I'll tell you why.....she's negative also...never was positive , this whole thing is BS ,but they made their money ..huh. Infusion in ER.

JIM

Yes they did.
And yes it is wonderful that we can do/get the things we need. Problem is, don't have room for these things at the moment, until our addition is finished. Haven't seen anyone working on it for six days, so I'm getting a little miffed. But, husband's comfort is important right now, even if his "bedroom" is now our entire family room. Had to move the scooter out to the garage next to the mega scooter, and I'm sure he's not happy about that, but the kids can bring it to him when he wants it. The add on has a ramp up to that room and a place to park the scooter inside, so that'll be good.

Glad you are covid free Phideaux!

I've done morning pet chores
Swept house.
Went to a couple of local stores for stocking stuffers.
I think I'll start some lunch room style rolls.
I may or may not set up next year's eBay filing system.

I took this week off from work. so I have been puttering around finding things to do. I checked all the BOB's; made sure batteries were good; knives are all sharpened; added or rearranged a few items. We are good to go.

Still twiddling my thumbs, so I decided to make bread. I'm not that industrious. I do have a bread machine. Made a loaf of Italian bread that turned out pretty good. It passed the family test. They all approved, and the house smelled great for half a day. Turned out to be just dumb luck, but we are having Italian food for Christmas Dinner. Tell me this wasn't an insane year. This will fit right in.
