We had a nice Christmas dinner
View attachment 55657
I did have some free time so I raised the soil level around the tomatoes and transplanted some peas. I have been having trouble getting bell peppers to sprout, and the wife says you know that's a warm weather crop and the seeds need warmer soil to sprout.(talk about making me feel stupid) So move the starter cups to a new location and applied more heat around them, hope they like it.

I have been trying to find good (comprehensive) books on what I am trying to do but there are very few that go beyond what we have already done. The trouble with being a pioneer is you are always ahead of the accepted limits.
When you are running in the dark it is the lead sled dog that runs into the tree.

Merry Christmas everybody.
We slept in. Talked to my mom for a while. She said fist time since they got married in 1963 they had spent the Christmas day alone. Talked to some other friends for a while. Other than that just reading and eating some tater soup the wife made.

:candycane: and same to you Bacp, we spent today not doing much of anything too.

All the kids have called to wish us a Merry Christmas.

Ribeye has been our tradition forever.

We are very blessed even in all that this past year has held for us.
Y'all have the best and Merriy Christmas 🎄 ever.
Jim

Ribeye is my favorite cut of beef... My sleep got messed up, had a bone-in ribeye and baked potato about 10pm last night for dinner... Enough left over for a ribeye sandwich for lunch today.

Christmas got a little messed up, my mom has dementia, she was in rare form when my niece and her boys came up for Chistmas supper. I bought a bunch of food early this week mom was going to cook for the meal. She forgot to cook anything at all except some tiny meatballs. I threw together snack stuff, summer sausage, ritz crackers, cheese spreads. The meat balls were a perfect bite size so I stuck tooth pics in all of them, had a couple kinds of dip... No a traditional Christmas meal but it tasty none the less.

My niece and her husband split up last summer so... since she was really short of cash she and mom decided there would be no presents exchanged this year. No one told me so everyone got presents anyway.

Saturn and Jupiter were still visible this evening, my niece and the boys hadn't got to see them because they didn't know where to look... So, we all went out in the pasture and everyone got to see them after snacks.

All in all an unusual Christmas but its been a really strange year... fitting.

At the moment I'm thawing catfish fillets... another late supper, gonna make fries to go with them.

Sometimes unusual doesn't mean bad, Peanut. Ours was unusual. The kids said it was a very good Christmas, being a covid Christmas, and they wouldn't change a thing. We had mom here, and you never know what will come out of her mouth. And she brings back things we gave her, and gives them away again. This year, she says I can have her pots and pans that she spent a fortune on evidently. But she's never used them because she doesn't cook. And she says that they are heavy, and next time I come over to her place to bring a box and towels to wrap them in, so they don't clink together. So ok. She sat in a chair and talked while I cooked our meal this evening. She said she was glad that she had me because she didn't want me, and my bio father wanted to drive her to Mexico to eliminate me, but she decided not to. And then a friend of the family wanted to adopt me, but she didn't do that either. And that I turned out to be her best daughter (there are four of us). So I told her that my husband, our five children, and our 8 grandchildren thank her for that. And then she told me it all over again and again and again...

@Amish Heart I know exactly what you mean. At the start of the year I was sure dad wouldn't live to see summer. Without dad to help, mom would have been in a home by fall. My niece's boys are pretty much grown, both have girlfriends so one or both will soon start missing Christmas here. But that's life... Things are about to change drastically... at least we had this one together and got to see the Christmas star as a family.

Slept in, then opened our gifts to each other and called her Mom to wish her a Merry Christmas. Watched some Christmas movies and looked through the seed catalogs. Then it was our traditional dinner of Ham, Mashed potatoes, corn and green beans. There may have been a nap after dinner, and now I wait to get sleepy.

For some reason, my dumb a$$ thought Christmas was on the 26th (I'm not Christian & my family has not celebrated holidays since my father passed in 2009). The pandemic put a clinch in my plans of trying a Jewish Christmas tradition (not Jewish either, but heard about a tradition) of going to a Chinese restaurant on Christmas day. It was something I learned about recently-- something about Chinese restaurants being the only ones open on Christmas in some areas so people who weren't Christian would go out to eat.

Mom called all of her sisters. My sister called to say Hi. Best friend called to say "hi" as well but then had to hang up abruptly bc the pan for the turkey was too shallow and juices started dripping out. I suppose I'll have to go help clean the oven later bc his fiance is terrible at cleaning and he needs to rest. She actually throws dishes away rather than wash them. She even threw out some of our dishes that we'd brought them food in (that were supposed to be returned). My friend didn't used to allow such wastefulness before his head injury.
Been online door shopping and window shopping-- literally shopping for windows and doors. LOL. Friend's front door is being held together with duct tape. Someone tried to kick it in when he was evacuated during a storm earlier this year. The Schlage lock held up and stopped them from getting in, but the door split. I think this door might be nice: https://www.lowes.com/pd/JELD-WEN-R...80-in-Actual-33-4375-in-x-81-75-in/1000560879

It's not too expensive, it's in stock where I can pick it up, and it's better than his broken door. (Yes, I measured, he only has a 32" door). I'm also thinking of getting him a peephole for it and bringing over my drill bits so we can install it. It's only primed so we'll have to pick a color for me to paint it. I'm thinking it might be best if I paint it in my workshop. I know he doesn't want the same door color I have and white wouldn't look right on that house.

I did some cleaning and stayed in bed most of the day. Tried to make some egg drop soup with corn. Ended up making corn with a little bit of soup in it. LOL. I gave some to my brother. Later in the bathroom he was singing about how squatty potty filled him with joy but left him empty and then shouted "I don't remember eating corn!" (he shouts random things while he's in the bathroom-- scared the hell out of some poor McDonalds' employees one day). I said "You just ate corn!" and he shouted back at me "Not corn on the cob!!" He's a weird one.

My bladder woke me up at this hour but now I'm cuddled up with 8 of my cats and one of my dogs.

This morning I woke up from a dream about losing something that my dad needed, it really shook me up and he's been dead for over 30 years. Then I got dressed and checked my list and went to HD. It was empty and they had already cleared off all the Christmas stuff (no closeout sale). I was hoping to get another timer so I could stagger lighting times, but they had none in stock....

I picked up all the soil addititives that I will need to recycle my soil into potting mix, some insecticidal soap, and other things for the garden.

The wife knows someone else who is doing something similar to what I am and so I will send them a note today to see if we can compare approaches and results

Today it is expected to be sunny and cold, I have lots of work to do outside so the sunny is good. I wanted to start recycling soil, but shoveling ice does not sound like the best use of my time...

Have a great day.

Urban

Update: Well the note to the someone who knows something failed, bad domain name........

In your dream, what was it that you lost? Also, any specific colors?

I lost a black backpack that contained a business proposal that I was reviewing for him, I was away from home and I lost it in a resturant, the dream was mostly in black and white.. No one cared, it was like a big party with people coming and going, and I couldn't get him what he needed... I felt I had let him down; That shook me to the core.

I had a weird dream/ nightmare last night. I was working at a retail store as a cashier and Joe Biden was in line and when he came up to me, he started talking to me. I could tell what he was trying to say so I would fill in the word he was going for. Then he asked me to come work for him and I woke up. Yikes!
Already ran to the local grocery for milk, eggs, carrots and bananas.
Going to start drying sweet potatoes for dogs in a few minutes.
Then dehydrate some apple slices.
Lastly, clean baths.

Still not over that dream. Creepy!

I had a vision last week, I was laying down for a few minutes something I never do in daytime. And I fely my son bend down and hold me for a couple minutes and I told yall " look my son is here".I don't like him traveling all over the world but thats his job and he likes it. I have had visions in the past. Anyway I called him to make sure he was ok,he was fine. ;). Last time I saw him was in Febuary heart surgery. He flew in for that but he was in the states first of year.

According to my interpretation of the elements you shared and checking my handy dandy dreamers dictionary 😁
Black is unfavorable in a dream unless it’s in relation to death or a funeral. Fathers are a figure of authority. Dreaming of business means that you will have to deal with some sticky situations and even dishonest people.
My take: be prepared to deal with something not fun.
The final 2 bits: the backpack- if it was full, you can expect opportunity and a positive outcome. If empty or close to, a less favorable outcome. The people- if they were relatively orderly etc. portrays increasing happiness and opportunity (again). If they were an angry mob is a warning to be firm in your caution.

I need to go clean out my van today and steam vac the floors. Maybe set back up the beds and table in it.
I hope our greenhouse poly comes soon we ordered last week.

This is a comfybed hubby built fram, bought foam for mattress. No room for bed in a bag though. Those only work for tents ot visits .

Under bed is lots of containers for trips ,sheeets, blankets, clothing thats not hung up.

For some strange reason we slept in late today, something which is very unusual for the wife, dog and me. The wind picked up early this morning and it’s blowing 30-40 mph gusts making the 6 degrees seem much colder. Our dog, who would rather be outside in just about any condition, I had to carry to the door and set him outside before he did his business.

The only thing we are going to do this day is make sure we bring in more firewood from the shed for the next 24 hours. And this is why we buy stacks of good books to read during the winter months. Today is a good day to grab one of those books.

Today I did very little work out doors, it wasn't that cold (just barely freezing) but I just wasn't in the mood. I saw a couple of posts about hyperinflation and it reminded me of an "old" guy I knew way back when. He was a kid (pre-teen) in Germany in the early 1920s and he talked about inflation in terms that were above my head at the time. With all the money the government is spending and debt that people are getting into and the jobs that have been lost, I thought is sounds a lot like Germany after WWI, so I thought I would read some history to see what was of value and how common people got by.

What I got out of it was a lot of social unrest, governments in constant turmoil, and people living at the limits of societal norms. It would seem that food was the only thing that really retained it's value: Here is a quote out of the history book I was reading:

Germany Exchange Rates and Stuff in the History Book:
1609020869798.png

"People who had saved their money in banks or were living on pensions or disability checks found themselves bankrupt. Those with jobs found that their salary increases could not possibly keep up with the almost instantaneous rise in prices. Artist George Grosz described what shopping was like in those days. Lingering at the [shop] window was a luxury because shopping had to be done immediately. Even an additional minute meant an increase in price. One had to buy quickly because a rabbit, for example, might cost two million marks more by the time it took to walk into the store. A few million marks meant nothing, really. It was just that it meant more lugging. The packages of money needed to buy the smallest item had long since become too heavy for trouser pockets. They weighed many pounds... People had to start carting their money around in wagons and knapsacks. I used a knapsack. "

Interesting reading, Urban. No wonder they needed another war. Our irresponsible politicians seem to want to set us on the same economic track.
The sun is out today and it hit 60 degrees, so we spent a little time outside piddling around. Lots of laundry done today, and scrubbing down the kitchen, after a whirlwind of cooking in there. Grandson killed and plucked another three roosters, and I cleaned and pieced them. Granddaughter was back at work today, and husband and I stopped in for an ice cream cone this afternoon. The neighbor kids have been over all day, and little granddaughter has been out playing with them all day long...in the barn fort, in the tree fort, riding bikes...

Other than going out and picking up take out for supper, didn't do much of anything other than read some and listen to a little music.

Couple of replies to earlier post:
Urban I too have saw that chart on the inflation in Germany in th e20's. What really struck me was how fast it took off in 1923. it took 5 years to get rolling big time, but when it really hit, you couldn't spend your money fast enough. The same will take place here one day too.

Jim I think you had posted about the AT&T issues related to the bombing yesterday. That station was a switch for what is called First Net. its primarily for 1st responders and such. But is tied in to a lot of other stuff as well. Outages all the way into Georgia, not sure how far west it went. From what I've heard it could be a couple weeks before it's fully back up.
