Been swamped for the past several days. Hi friends!

A dear friend of mine sent me a couple quarts of hickory nuts. They are delicious! They don’t grow here, as far as I know. Hard to crack, though. I poked around YT a bit and found someone who used a clamp … might have to see if we’ve got one that’ll work.

Today is putting up some tomato soup, and doing some laundry, and maybe getting the rest of the summer veggies pulled. It’s supposed to hit the 30s for the lows this weekend.

This was from last week but someone gave me a newspaper today. The American Legion and VFW merged into one building. I'm a member of both. I'm in the picture, towards the middle, in front.

Not what I'm doing, but what I did...

This morning I took an extra bag of trash out to the can that was already by the street for pickup. I saw my neighbors garage and gates were open so I started walking over to say "hi." As I got to the edge of my yard, they pulled out in a car. So I'm kind of standing there on the sidewalk like Freddy Kruger as they rolled past. Not knowing what to do I looked at a plant like that was why I was there.

Then I went back inside, but the cat got out. She's not allowed in the outer yard, so I'm trying to corral the cat, stooping over to scoop her up, and she beats me every time. So I'm walking around the yard half bent over like Igor trying to catch the cat - and the neighbors returned for something.

So now I'm worried they think I'm completly crazed and off my rocker, so I walked over to the parked car to explain. Meanwhile he had run into the house, and she was texting on her cell. Not knowing what else to do I stood by the window, waiting like a zombie clown for her to roll down the window so I could explain that they really didn't need to get a restraining order...

She saw me and rolled the window down and he returned and I explained things. We had a laugh and they went on their way.

So now I'm going back to bed, I'll try life again tomorrow... ;)

I'm with Amish Heart, don't worry about it! Keep 'em wondering!

Got up, worked out, cleaned up, went to work, did some witness canvasing, found the guy I wanted to find, pissed off a traffic cop, bought some Halloween candy just in case, picked up tickets to an event on Saturday, picked up a record to give the lady as a future gift thanks to @elkhound, came home and started making dinner.

Tractor maintenance day… actually part 2. Started a couple days ago but had grease gun issues. This morning I disassembled the grease gun and cleaned 5yrs of crud off in the process. Took a whole can of carb cleaner but it’s now in good working order and loaded with a fresh tube of grease.

Got everything greased but the pto shaft on the bush hog. Had to watch several videos to get the shaft shield out of the way, lots of fun. Then discovered the shaft yokes have 45 degree zerk fittings that conveniently point for impossible access. One fitting was missing altogether and the other has bad threads.

So tomorrow’s chore will be fixing the pto shaft. The bushhog manufacturer is about 30min away so at least I can drive there for parts if necessary.

No plans but dinner and tv tonight.

That looks like a cool state park. I had to look up where it is. Good pics of you two. Definitely look like you're enjoying yourselves!
If any of our members are ever in Eastern Iowa, it is worth a visit. Note that it isn't a good park for anyone who has difficulty with their mobility. The trails are well kept, and most of the steep parts have steps, but there are a lot of uneven or slippery surfaces.

38f right now and no rain day was sunny all day

Did cook today ..nothing else besides but cats and dog care
and trying to stop pain on the right side of my body

I feel sad but I dont know why..oh well
I slept like crap last night ..maybe I am restless

I might stay up until my face fall on the floor o_O

Wish you a nice evening and night

Greenhouse is done, or does this need to go in the garden thread? The plastic was cheap, might have to be replaced or added to if it doesn't work. The frame is anchored into the ground . The plants will be raised off the ground on the plywood and I am going to put a black barrel with water for indirect heating at night in there. Will see if that works

Just got home from picking up the chickens. We stopped and did some shopping on the way home. I bought 2 pounds of fresh habanaros to be smoked and made in to hot sauce. Got a call from UPS, they tried to deliver a package, my log splitter tire, but the gate was locked. New driver. I told her to just toss it over the gate and I'll pick it up on my way home. Then I got a call from a truck driver that was delivering my motorized kayak. I told him to just drop it off in town next to the parts store and I'll bring my truck to town tomorrow and pick it up. Busy day.
High temp of 43.

I think it was close to $9+ per bird. But the wife wanted the feet, gizzards, and something else saved. It's way too expensive, plus it two 200 mile round trips. I think after this we'll be butchering our own.

wow, that 's a lot for a chicken. It's not that hard doing it yourself. We use a turkey fryer to heat water to dip them in, and a sharp knife to cut their heads of in a cone. If you dip them in hot water, the feathers come out pretty easy. I can process a chicken in about 10 minutes from start to finish

Yeah. We have a big stock pot that we can use for scalding them. I just need to buy the plucker and a couple of cones. The plucker I'm looking at is less than $1000 and can do 4 or 5 birds at a time.
