Actually had a decent day. Very relieved at the election results, it's like a cloud has lifted. Used my lunch break to go get a load of gravel for the greenhouse area, and it was so nice out I just grabbed the shovel and started unloading, instead of going back in to work. Then my brother rolled in to work on the generator gas line so instead of just a long lunch, I called my boss and asked for the afternoon off.
The gas line is DONE! Oh, my, that's another cloud lifting...now I just have to get an electrician to do the transfer switch.

Fortunately I live in a state where the government doesn't inspect our vehicles. Is it just a leaking seal? If it is it shouldn't be to hard to replace.
My list of equipment that needs repairs keeps growing. Even more so now that it's getting colder.
I don't mind the inspections really all that much. It's all safety stuff. I don't want people driving around with bad breaks. Our car insurance is half of what it was in Florida here

It's probably more than that , it always is. We already had this fixed last year at some place but now it is leaking again. Probably good they caught it but it's always bad timing
I reserved a rental truck just in case ( can cancel the day before) . Sometimes I wonder if it would be cheaper to just rent a truck instead of owning it. I think if this one really breaks to where it is not fixable ( like the frame rusts through and can't be fixed) we might just do that. We get a load of hay ( square bales) a few times a year, take animals to auction and meat processing and take the stupid Ranger to the repair shop, and occasionally get large pieces of wood at the home depot. If we combine trips we could probably spend around $3000 a year for rentals and not own this truck . We spent that much on insurance, repairs, taxes every year
We are already renting a car anytime we go on a longer trip like visiting daughter at the beach.

today after animal care I am baking some dessert for our club meeting tomorrow
plus clean bathroom and kitchen which I didn't get to yesterday
We really have a lot more free time now that the market is over and there is no gardening to do either. Waiting on some more parts to finish the solar setup but husband and son are doing that mostly.
What do all of you that are retired do in winter?

0552, and I'm still in North Platte, Nebraska. I'm getting ready to leave the hotel to go to work. It's supposed to be rainy and chilly again today. To me, temps in the 30s/40s with rain are the worst working conditions one can have. I'll take 20 below and dry, or 104 and humid, over chilly and wet.

Tomorrow is my last day out here. I'll be headed home to my new position tomorrow night. That job is scheduled to be 52 miles from home until the 17th of December, so it'll be a long commute but I'll be sleeping in my own bed every night. We're getting to the time of year when the railroads start winter layoffs so I don't know how long I can hold the job. It all depends on how greedy the CEO and the board of directors are, I guess. We made well over a billion in profits for the 3rd quarter this year, but they said it was disappointing...

Hmm...retired in the winter.... Sonya's question...
I do the butchering then. Need the colder weather for it. Indoor painting that needs it, although I might do a bit today since it's raining now and will all day long. I do the canning of things I threw in the freezer. I clean out closets, food storage, etc. I do alot more soup making and visiting.

I'm off today! Cleaned for my new lady yesterday instead of today because yesterday's job had to cancel! Moved my new lady because of weather! Probably getting heavy rain today! Doing some house cleaning, giving Bear a bath, and hopefully taking it easy some and not irritate my back!!

I
Cool 66* and overcast ... rain in 30 mins, and thunderstorms most of the afternoon.

Maybe a couple errands today depending on the weather.

Having a bagel with Brown n Serve Sausages for breakfast.
I'm fixing to make pancakes with Brown and Serve sausage and scrambled eggs!!😃

I do more canning in the winter. Mostly meals in a jar that are ready to eat or heat and eat. It helps heat the house so a little less money going there.

Already walked this morning.
Going to help at cafe today. It will be his last day open for a month or more. He will be having surgery on one eye that has a hole in it.
Still need to do yesterday's chores : Roast garbanzos and give Bo a bath.

Today I'm kind of off, I'm writing 3 documents for work and I keep hitting a mental wall, so I stop, go outside and pull weeds, when I have forgotten what I was doing I stop and return to the computer...

The day before the election I shifted my retirement portfolio to stock heavy, today I plan to shift is back to normal. My thinking was that there was a lot of pre-election jitters and that once the election was over there would be a rebound/bump. Now my thinking is that the reality will start to sink in and people will realize that we still have 3 months of Biden/Harris to deal with... I was able to realize a 3% gain on the 4 days I was stock heavy, but I hate to leave that much exposed to the normal risks that are out there.

Another day of rest planned, mostly. Got to get my guitar ready, gonna go play bluegrass tomorrow. Supposed to be rainy and cool but should be fun. I was there last May, had a blast. There's talk the organizer is trying to make it a monthly event. Hope so, I'll go and support it.

Worked for me and was funny. Woman trying to use a garden hose to show her husband how easy it is to get the spray in the toilet right?
I have often thought that the irony of toilet training boys is usually done by women who are not equipped to really help them hit the target.

I remember that Sentry and the males in their house had their own designated bathroom and the females had their own. Women can really appreciate that!

More organizing and deep cleaning. And watching movies that I missed when I was too busy to see when I was still teaching.

Also, more crafting. I am in a spot now where I have a quilt top that needs to be quilted. That is a big job and will take a while. I really want to have it machine quilted but it is the time of year where all the people with long arm machines are booked up, finishing quilts for people who are making quilts for Christmas gifts.

I have been searching for another Christmas cross stitch pattern. I haven't found one that I like.

Also want to make more felt ornaments. I have made some of the 12 days of Christmas, but have a ways to go. There is a woman who has made lovely designs for them. I need to purchase more of her patterns. I've been searching for dog patterns for ornaments for my clients.

Crafting and watching movies works for my ADD brain.

Then I have a flag adaptation quilt that I want to make. I refuse to start it until the other one is finished.

Going to the dump, then pick up a load of stove oil to mix with the diesel. The shingles came in for the new chicken coop roof and the atv shed, I'll pick that up too, plus some lumber. I got the wood shed leveled yesterday so we can start putting fire wood in it. Later today I'll scrape the the snow and ice off the fur shed roof and install the chimney brace.
The grandson wants to come down soon and trap some ermine (weasels). I need to make some more weasel boxes before he gets here.

Got up, worked out even though I was tired from yesterday's gift, watched the lady leave for spa day, got cleaned up, went to do some dishes and found a 5x7 framed picture of me in the kitchen with an "employee of the month" label on it, began to plot to my revenge on a 19 year old girl, did the dishes, put in some laundry for my residential supervisor / sugar mama, ran a few errands for the same person, was asked by a complex employee as I carried in the some items to include dry cleaning if I was a "stay home dad", responded "yes, yes I am" then added "She's 19 but she's high maintenance" and walked away, then I ate lunch with that high maintenance girl and have been just doing busy work and listening to conservative talk radio every since. Until now of course. Soon I have to make dinner. You don't get to be employee of the month by slacking off.

I get mylar emergency blankets for about 70 cents each, so I gave them to all the firefighters, police and deputies for the last two years and did it again this year today. The police chief told me last year one saved someone's life. That makes it all worth it. I also give them to people in wheelchairs and using a cane or crutches.

Paint supplies cleaned out and put back where they belong...except for the stuff I need out to paint the bathroom/laundry room. So that means I need to finish my tea and go do it. Husband looks pretty decent this afternoon. Rain all day today, so the dog has been in and out and in and out. Got the chicken bread made, the big bowl of fruit cut, and the eggs boiled, and the kitchen cleaned, and the laundry hung inside.
