Probably go into our little town at some point and get the mail, buy some of the butter cheese at the deli place, drop off at the thrift store some stuff we cleaned out, and stop in at the amish grocery. Husband was talking about going out for the ride, but we'll see how he feels today. Between the cousins visiting, and the neighbor Marlon coming by later after the milkhouse faucet fix and talking his ear off, he was pretty tired. But enjoyed it. Little granddaughter will be working on cleaning out the other chicken coop.

Went grocery shopping. Put together a shower caddy—there’s no place in the tub her to put shampoo, conditioner and body wash bottles in the tub. Got the fixings for a cheesecake. Interestingly dad’s speech therapist have been suggesting different foods for him to try and he suggested cheesecake. Dad is ecstatic about that—claims I make the best cheesecake.

Need to clean off the dining room table—at some point we’re going to move dad’s tabletop train layout from my bedroom to the dinning room so he can play with it.

Got to get the seed starting area set up also.

I’ve lost 2 pounds since Dad came home and I need to keep that up.

We found out what is causing Mom's back pain. She has a compression fracture in her lower back. Sitting in a wheelchair has inflamed it worse. Unfortunately time is about the only healer for it, so she's going to be bedridden a while. While I'm glad and thankful it's not anything worse, it's a reminder that this strong woman who survived and thrived in a situation that would destroy many people, is now old and frail.

Although I'm old, I am certainly not elderly 😂

Just went down to the mailbox. This is the view to the west. Supposed to be another storm coming in tonight.

How hard!! All about taking time, when time is short! I hope and pray she heals quickly!!

Busy here too , today I am going to clean the rest of the house after animal care
Will be doing a lot of driving next week for various things , not looking forward to it, I would rather just stay home, unless we are going some place fun like swimming

the chocolate coffee cake turned out ugly but tasted good
husband and son ate an entire loaf yesterday, I only had a little bit. One loaf left
https://preppykitchen.com/chocolate-babka/#recipe

Next time I need to adjust some stuff, way too much filling, and too much butter in the dough. The rest is ok

WOW, I basically slept until 4 am!! Up a few times of course, but I wasn't wide awake at 2!! Off today, we are splitting the last big pile of firewood, will cut more soon! Got a list a mile long so I'll stay busy!!
define a big pile of firewood please :)

It's been a mostly indoor weekend.
I was hoping Feb would be mild as far as snow is concerned..unfortunately this isn't so.
We do need it though..but uggh..
Just getting a bunch of chores done ..
I did get a dog walk in yesterday inbetween the snow. My friends have a 5 month old Chesapeake that needs some solicalizing..my two older pups are well balanced and social so we had a first meet n walk yesterday with the puppy. It went well.
Today I'll walk my pups up the road n stay close. It snowed alot last night n I don't feel like driving the roads. Wood stove n firewood n get my radio license..work on a rug..that's it.
Ho hum..

Got a fire going in the fur shed. I feel the need to clean a couple guns. Also fired up the smoker. Got a couple racks of jerkey meat going. Been shoveling snow on the steps, going the start blowing our pathways soon. It's still snowing, but not too hard. Only got a few inches overnight.

The Princess came down with something so she has been in bed all day. I made her some chicken soup. I called Sunday night dinner because I don't want to expose the granddaughters. When I spoke to the DIL it turns out she was in the hospital with her mother. Her mother had another stroke type event. Both grandmothers sick at the same time is rough for the granddaughters.

Pray for the grandmothers would be appreciated.

Thank you

Ben

2/2/25.. US Ground Hog Day..
They drag some sleepy ground hog out of its den and if it sees it shadow that means there will be 6 more weeks of winter... If no shadow, spring in 42 day or some silly superstition like that.. I can never keep it strait..

At 3pm local and we also are having 42-38 temps only F instead of C scale..
:P
Bright, calm but predicted 2-4" of wet snow tonight.. We will see..

Out today for McDonalds coffee, feed birds and squirrels, get bananas while I can, and coffee before tariffs send the price crazy high..

Just about finished snowblowing the area around the house, garage, barn, coop and up to the fur shed, generator building and the bulk fuel tanks. It's been snowing all day and everything needs to be cleared again already. I need to fuel the snowblower and will make another pass down to the barn before going inside. It's only 28 degs out side so I'm wet clear through and am starting to get cold.
I probably won't clear the road until this storm is over. According to the weather forecast it's supposed to snow until next Friday, with up to 3 feet more. Which means that we're snowed in until at least Friday.

Is it just me or what but it looks like it's a good time to be old as us old men have some great wives and ladies but the young guys not so much. I read the ladies on here and all of them seem to be great wives and ladies. I pity the the young guys today.
I know that I have one of the best. I made a promise to her before we got married that she will never be bored. Also promised her that she would never have to live without whatever she wants in life. Even living up here in the mountains off grid, she has a "normal" house with all the modern conveniences and appliances. She loves working side by side with me putting up hay and firewood and taking care of our critters. After 30+ years I think I'll keep her around.
