@Terri9630 then that would mean you will have to pay all the payments when they are back up again I would assume. I know you would be able to organise and plan that but many people would just spend it and be in a heap of do do when they have to make a bulk payment.

Yes the payments are due 30 days after the shutdown ends. We've already paid Jan and I have the money for Feb. I think we are going to hold on to that for now, just incase.

I went in today to get some information on inverters and charge controllers. They had eleven 305W solar panels with some minor shipping damage. I should still get 3K of solar for $1000. Even if I lose a couple panels along the way it is a killer deal. It is an hour drive, each way, and about $25 in gas. this price includes delivery.

I had my Jeep today and a free 55 gallon steel drum in the back so I couldn't haul the panels myself. A free drum and solar panels for two thirds off, I'm feeling pretty good. I may have to wait another month to get the inverter et al but that is okay with the savings for the panels.

Didn't get the produce at Wal*Mart the other day.
Got grand daughter a coat cause her mom keeps sending her over her without a coat.
Before coat went on clearance price was $25.95.
Coat on clearance $17.00 savings $8.95.
So for savings of $8.95 she got a new book, sock cap, gloves, still saved $4.50.
Strawberry got dog treats too.
Still will get produce later, but want to get all the bills paid first.
Was grand daughter's expenses unexpected yes, but don't want little girl sick either.

Made last years Christmas gifts for Estelle:
Crocheted fruit, will make more this year too.
Best part all these fruits are washable.

In the last few days we have saved money by -

- Making a 2.8 kg quadruple batch of honey, almond, sultana, coconut and oat granola with a dash of vanilla extract from food storage to last a few weeks saving us $47.45 over buying it in the shops.
- I cut DH's hair and he cut mine saving around $100 + over going to to the hairdresser or barber to have it done.

Got my rebate in from Costco Mastercard (I know cards can be dangerous but we always pay it off in full), that came not long after my Costco rebate (which paid for the membership and then some). Nice bonuses for things I would have bought normally.

Oldest daughter when she was in college mentioned she had a credit card. I opened my mouth to give her some unsolicited advice. "Dad I know. Paid in full every month and using the rewards to her advantage." I'm relived she doesn't take after her mother (financially wise)!

Went to the grocery store today just for deals (b/c I don't usally shop on Saturday) and took advantage of a couple of super bowl sales. There was a sale on beer AND a rebate on beer.....buy 2 cases, get a $12 rebate. Hubs said with that deal, he can't afford NOT to drink. They also had the big 36.8 oz containers (which I can't hardly find anymore) of Maxwell House on sale for $5.99 each and get $5 off if you buy 5 of them......making them $4.99 each. I bought them out of stock earlier in the week which was only 4 cans. Thankfully they had more to restock the shelves with today, so I bought another 10 of them using 2 seperate transactions. Even the cashier said "Wow! That's a great deal." Yeah, I know.:D I'm half tempted to go back and get more......

There is no doubt that cards can be dangerous. It doesn’t seem like real money ...okay, it doesn’t seem like real currency... so it woul$ be easy to get in a hole if a person isn’t careful. Obviously most arent careful because they make bucketfuls of money. Hard to believe the first credit card wasn’t invented until the 1940s and they really didn’t start to come into vogue until the late 60s. They have made a lot o& money in 60 years or so

Found three pkgs of cookies in the clearance bin for 50 cents a package. Good for the preschool. Martinellis caramel apple cider for $1
I NEVER see these kinds of deals. Of course I don't go out to the store much so there's that...
That's what irritates me about saving money. I have to spend money to save money. So if I don't have money, I can't spend money, then whose money am I saving? I'm kidding.
Even though I didn't need to buy a bunch of green peppers the other day, I never see them marked at .48 each so I bought a few. i was going to dehydrate them, (thank you @Amish Heart ) but we stuffed them instead.

Firstly I earned $44.39 from the sale of 2 cotton eye masks I made on eBay. None of the items in my shop or fabric owe me any money as I have made my money back from previous sales and profits.

Then I spent $42.49 on eBay on -

- 30 x 1mt roll of fibreglass flyscreen.
- 20 x tap o'rings.
- 20 x fibre tap washers.

This saved us $45.12 over buying these in our local hardware store.

I also took advantage of a free listing and final auction value fee listing promotion on eBay to list 6 items I made saving a further $9.90 on usual listing fees.

Yesterday we made a batch of brownies from a homemade brownie premix, a single batch of chocolate chip and coconut biscuits, a loaf of fruit bread and a loaf of bread saving $68.54 over buying them in cafe's or supermarkets.

48 cents is a good buy for bell peppers! If you can't bring yourself to lug out the dehydrator (which I don't find time to some days), then just chop them up and freeze them. I do that with extra hot peppers, and when I cleaned out my freezers on Saturday, I had a bunch that went in the dehydrator. Spending money to save money is a pain. I take a cash grocery allowance each week, and work with it. If I can stretch it, I'm happy.

How do you make homemade brownie mix?

Staying out of stores.
Cooking at home using what's in cupboards, pantry, freezers.
Making items for gifts instead of buying.
Repurposing, reusing, recycle everything if possible.
Scraps of fabric gets made into quilts.
Scraps of yarn gets made into afghans.
Both will keep me, sons, daughter in law, grand daughter warm.
Making first meal into several versions of the same meal.
Example: Beef pot roast, potatoes, carrots, celery.
Dinner first night.
Second night might be beef and vegetable soup
Third night might be beef stew
Fourth night made into homemade pot pies for the freezer for future meals.
Watch sales too, clip coupons on things will actually use.
Footlong sub sandwich cut into fourths could be 4 individual meals when you add soup or salad.
Just things I do, to stretch my food budget.

@MoBookworm1957 here is the recipe for homemade brownie premix from food storage and we make half this batch as that is all that will fit in our mixmaster bowl which is large -

Chocolate Brownie Premix.

8 cups of sugar.
4 cups of all purpose flour.
2 1/2 cups of baking cocoa.
4 teaspoons of baking powder.
4 teaspoons of salt (we use a lot less as it seems to salty to us).
2 cups of shortening (we use butter).

In a bowl combine, sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Mix in the softened butter with your mixer until it resembles course crumbs.
Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to 6 months (we put it in the fridge in an ice cream container with lid).

How to make Brownies from the mix -

- 4 cups of brownie mix.
- 4 eggs
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
- 1 1/3 cups of walnuts (optional can make it with or without this).
- 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips.

In a mixing bowl combine brownie mix, eggs & vanilla, mix well.
Fold in the walnuts and choc chips.
Pour into greased 13 x 9" baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 mins or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cool on a wire rack.

How to make Fudge Sauce from brownie premix -

- Marashchino cherries (optional).

In a saucepan bring bownie mix and water to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for 1 - 2 minutes until thickened.
