Anyone know who (if anyone) I could report the bogus signs to and have them removed? It is outside of the city limits so it wouldn't be anyone within the city. I want those stupid signs removed. But to make it look like official signage claiming road closures is agitating. They've never done this before and I doubt they got proper permission from the parish authorities to put up those signs. They also knocked down my street sign with their trucks and its lying on the ground.

Update: She passed the message along to ignore the signs & they will deliver tomorrow. Now if I can get in touch with Samsclub people...
The State Troopers. (formerly known as 'the highway patrol')

The locals have obviously been bought off.
Only the state, parish, or city can legally close roads.
Contractors can close 1 lane, but they have to put a flag man out at each end to wave traffic around. Pretty sure you have seen that before.
...Also, they could have gotten the parish to put up the barricades for them. :(

I get that hospital doors are locked at a certain hour for security reasons. It does make it difficult though, when everything is routed to the ER entrance. Last night ER was busy, had to park in overflow parking, walk a ways to get in, get a wheelchair, bring it back to the car, load husband, and push him quite a way. He weighs 280. I am getting my weight training in. Ha. Hope tonight there's parking in the handicapped spots.

Thanks, Supervisor. I'm going to try to find the highway patrol for the parish and ask them about it. I highly doubt the parish gave them permission or put signs up for them. They've never done it in the past and at most they should only be able to close the one lane (as you mentioned). The school bus has to go down this road and can't go the other way because it is unsafe (the bridges are in bad condition). Usually when there is road work or construction and signs are up, there is at least some police presence. None present right now. These loggers are constantly violating the traffic rules. They drive down the middle of the road even when there are lines, they actually ran my brother off the road doing that by coming at him head on. Driver had plenty of room to fit in his own lane but was directly in the middle and didn't even slow down as he was barreling toward my brother. Brother had to go into a ditch. I've nearly been hit by them when they were in the middle of the road as well. They also drive on the road during and immediately after heavy rain. They are not allowed to drive on these crappy roads within 24 hours of substantial rain because they are paved so thinly & poorly that the weight of the trucks destroys the paving. I get they have a job to do, but they don't have to be jerks to the people who live out here and break the laws. Another thing is that when they get to the end of the twisty road they are supposed to stop and check their loads before going on to the highway but they don't. I will say that not all of them are jerks. Some are courteous and follow the rules, but there are a lot who don't.

Amish, I've had to push my mother in a wheelchair when she was about 240lbs and remember how difficult that was. The extra 40lbs would have been a lot worse. I hope your husband gets feeling better soon.

A few days ago we received mail from our neighbor. They have a son that could be old enough to be graduating from High School.

Me: Honey the mail we got from the neighbor? Was that an invite to their son’s graduation or open house?

Wife: Yes.

Me: To the graduation ceremony or a open house?

Wife: Open house. We can’t go we have other plans.

Me: OK. Are you going to send him a card?

Wife: I can.

Me: I know you can, are you?

Wife: YES!

Today I see the invite sticking out of one of the piles the wife has on the kitchen counter. I look at the date and then check my electronic calendar. I have nothing scheduled for that date. I’m now curious why we can’t go.

Me: What’s the conflict that preventing us from going to the neighbor‘s open house?

Wife: I don’t know.

Me: Well if you don’t know who would?

Wife gives me the look: I’ll have to check my calendar, we might be able to attend.

Now I’m totally confused: A few days ago you said we couldn’t and now you’re saying you don’t know. Which is it?

Wife now gives me THE LOOK. Gets her calendar out of her purse and sighs: Yea we can go to it, do you want to?

Me: Yes I would.

Wife: I guess we can.

So we went from “no” to “don’t know” to “might” to “yes” to “guessing”. In my mind the entire conversations on this subject has been a total waste of time, I still don’t know if we are going or not. I made a decision, I will be attending. When the day comes the wife will be upset, why don’t I want her to go, why am I going without her or why aren’t I going to her event instead? And she will watch me get ready, I’ll tell her I’ll be back in a few and as I start going out the door she’ll yell “WAIT! I don’t have his card made yet. This same scenario has played over and over numerous times in the years passed.

I went to a hospital in Sacramento, CA to work and the ER doors were not only lock but there was a police officer sitting behind a desk with a 12 GA shotgun. The shotgun was leaning against the desk right next to the cop.
We didn't waste any time when we left.
@Amish Heart I would have parked in the door and dropped him off then parked.

I see that Biden is officially running in 2024 and his running mate is Harris. They said that they are doing a great job and want to finish what they started!

When I was a kid my dad had an "off" phrase for when something was rotten... "This one looks like it's had the Green Weenie".

Can I get a bumper sticker?

The lady I cleaned for today was SO excited about Obiden running!! Her daughter brought her groceries to her and she bitched about how much it cost for so little food! Then griped about their favorite cafe going up on their lunch specials! So I HAD to do it!! I said " what do you mean? You were just happy about it a few minutes ago"! Took her a few seconds before I got an evil look!! Nothing else was said about it!!🤔

Awhile back a young lady asked how long I had been married. 40 years I replied. She said wow, what is that like? I said well I don't want to smother her with a pillow everyday.

The weather forecast. They say the low will be 37 and then it turns out to be 31.
I hope my plants are still alive , we did not cover anything and I left out the plants in containers last night.

Plus there is this, you cannot buy an accurate thermostat if your life depended on it anymore!! I have bought many, and put them outside, and every single one has a different temperature ! Same with oven thermometers. Even expensive ones supposedly made in the US are not accurate. Same goes for scales btw. You have to buy a $200 one with weights to get something accurate ( one you can calibrate with weights they send along) . Digital ones always differ by as much as 100g, which is a lot in baking things or making soap ( I bought the expensive one long ago to make soap)
Why can't they make accurate stuff?

I have a Thermapen instant read meat thermometer. It's calibrated and accurate to within .5°F.

I have a pretty good one to check meat or bread temps but I want an inexpensive yet accurate outside thermometer and something I can hang into the oven to see what temp it is ( none of them ever bake at the temp it says they are, plus I need one for the wood stove)
Any suggestions for that?

I can't get there from here!!! Feels that way! This past week, the drive to the folk school from my house should be about an hour but... but there is no good way to get there. Most of the drive is great, state roads, straight, easy peazy. Until I get about 12 miles away, as the crow flies. From that point every possible route adds many miles and time.

The shortest route adds 8 miles of very narrow county roads, with curves you can meet yourself on. And the road is crap, ever slow to 10mph and find you still can't dodge all the pot holes? I had go that slow a couple times, worried I'd flatten a tire. I passed a road sign that was literally shot to pieces. Should have gone back for a photo of the sign and the road. The road had twice the number holes in it.

The easiest route is on state roads but adds 14 miles and takes me through part of a town of 15K, traffic, lights and the same screwed up road designer. At one point I have to merge onto a 6lane road with traffic at 50mph. I have less than 100yrds to cross 3 lanes of traffic and get to a turn lane. It can't be done without pissing someone off!!! 🤬

The guys who laid out the roads in that area should be dug up and shot, then beaten. :waiting:

Oh Grrr!! TV's aren't televisions anymore.
DW got a new 55" TV for the living room. The old one will go to a friend's young son.
I had the old one programmed with all the OTA (over the air) channels in case the world ends and we have no satellite or internet.
I hooked the antenna to the coax connector on the tv and went thru all the setup sections; not found.
I figured, no problem, I'll just hook it to my tv (2019) instead.
Notice the setup screen shows 'auto program' but when you click, this is what you see:

Sorry for the crappy picture, but handling the remote and the tablet is a struggle and the "function not available" message is only on for 1 second:(.
Televisions no longer have a "tuner".gaah

Apparently some new TVs force you to watch ads and some of them demand you connect to the internet to set them up or you can't use them. I'd be pissed if I got one of those.

As an aside, because I communicated with HomeDepot and Samsclub they were able to tell Fedex to ignore the signs and deliver to me so I got my stuff and they put it on the porch as requested.

Then I got a call from the local hospital on my cellphone. I never gave them my cellphone number and didn't know how they got it. They told me I had a bill from them and I asked how I could have a bill when I haven't been a patient there since 2009. They said it was for my bloodwork in March. I told them I had my bloodwork done at my doctor's office and already paid it. They said that the blood was sent over to them and they did the labs and therefore I owed them $800+. I told them that was insane and either they had the wrong person or had me mixed up with my mother or they typo'd the amount. They said no, that was the amount and I owed it. I told them BS. Called my doctor's office afterward and explained the situation. Clerk said that it was bs and that their records showed I paid in full. She said that she would take care of it for me and not not to worry about it.

At least that got resolved, but it had me stressed out.

Lazy L, the lack of clear communication is one of the reasons I've decided to remain single. Sounds like my mother making plans to go and then cancelling last minute and then being mad when I was busy or had plans when she finally did want to go somewhere or she didn't communicate to me that she wanted to go.

I got to thinking about this, and I was being a bit unfair.
Maybe I have to come out of the 'stone-age' eventually.
The living room TV was the last one in the house (out of 4) that was not a "Smart TV", which is why DW wanted it changed out.
The Smart ones get many other 'sources' that the old one did not.
Like Netflix, Hulu, Roku, YouTube, Prime Video, Samsung Plus, and others.

I'm STILL livin' in the Stone Age, Supe! But I have a Roku Streaming Stick which makes things EASIER, lol. My 65" curved screen TV is a Samsung 6 Series model, so it's a "Smart TV"---thing is, I'm not using it the way many younger folks would use it, AYE? I don't give a $h!t, all I wanna do is watch old Westerns on it, lol. Like watching 'LAWMAN' the other day, starring Burt Lancaster, that was a GREAT flick, 10-4? I like seeing bad guys get shot down...

Don't think I have owned a TV'thingie in over 30 years.

Ok, moving on from TV's, I know a lot of folks here raise chickens and will like this.
All I can say is, it's a good thing this one didn't have metal spurs like the ones in Alabama.
This cat would have been shredded:

There is no audio on the video and it is another one that I would love to do a voiceover for, in a heavy Alabama accent.
People all around us up there raised fighting roosters for the 'chicken-fighting' (can't use the real name) games.
There was big money in that. :)

My newest TV is Hisense ULED (which is Ultra Quantum LED-- a step above QLED) so the picture is beautiful. It can load Youtube and was useful when Mom's computer was out and she wanted to watch videos. I also used it to watch a tutorial on ladder stitching while I was on the couch trying to sew a ladder stitch.

I know those devices spy. The record audio without permission-- I know this because sometimes it triggers audio commands and starts displaying everything I'm saying on the bottom of the screen as if I hit the voice command button when I did not. IIRC, police have requested to take people's devices like TVs and to try to download the recordings the TVs took of people in their homes. They do it so they can target you with specific ads but also to sell your data to advertisers and "research" companies.

My friend is owed over $4k in back pay by his employer. They claimed they were sending a check. He got one for $200 but still has not received the rest of the $ and he's worried he won't as the company is shutting down on May 5th. Not sure what legal recourse he will have if they are closed down and still owe him $. It is Alpha Omega operated out of NJ. Not sure who he would sue if they shut down and whether or not he'd be able to get court costs.
