What Are You Having For Dinner

I made spaghetti with meat sauce tonight. We had a family Zoom dinner. Three from here in Colorado, one from Texas, two from Hawaii (more of a late lunch for these two). Spaghetti made in the Instant Pot works well sitting at our fold-out long table in front of the big screen TV with a webcam doing Zoom. The focus is on family, not a big fancy dinner. Pass the cauldron of spaghetti down the table and scoop it onto your plate. Had one of those bagged Caesar salad kits and a loaf of Italian bread with herbed dipping oil. Fruit smoothies for the Hawaiians, iced tea for the Texan, and beers and Bubly flavored water for the Coloradans rounded out the drinks. We discuss some interesting things at these dinners. My daughter taught us some of her tricks for doing medical procedures on dolphins. Kind of a strange dinner topic, but now I know some of the basics of giving a dolphin eye drops, should I ever need to do that. A fun time was had by all. Pass the Parmesan!

I was all alone tonight, getting late, and I didn't want to cook anything. So I figured I'd try this can of chili that I had high hopes for. If you've ever had the chili in a Wendy's fast food place, it's actually pretty good.

Don't fall for it. This is nothing like Wendy's chili. You can't even imagine it's remotely similar as you're eating it, no matter how hard you try to deceive yourself. Some crapola company must have paid lots of money to put the Wendy's name on their garbage.

It doesn't look like Wendy's chili, it doesn't smell like Windy's chili, and it sure as heck doesn't taste anything like Wendy's chili. But it costs twice as much as every other can of chili on the store shelves. This is nothing but generic canned chili, and I think it's actually worse than most of the other canned chilis (of which none are very good IMHO). Glad I was home alone, so I didn't have to suffer the embarrassment of having served this to other people.

It's a total fraud. Don't fall for it. 👎

Given the weather (overcast, gloomy and cool, and no commitments for the day, comfort food seems apropos, so a meatloaf and smashed taters are in order.

Had a huge lunch at The Sherpa House in Golden. Fantastic Nepalese restaurant. They have the most awesome patio/courtyard dining under the big tree. Beautiful fall weather in Colorado today, about 70 degrees with clear blue skies.

I don't know if I'll cook anything tonight. Maybe in a few hours. Possibly red beans and rice with sausage. That's quick and easy. But kind of on the heavy side.

I’ve been by the Sherpa House a few times but haven’t eaten there. Definitely moving that up my to-eat-at list!

They have some inside eating rooms as well, but the patio is my favorite. You might want to ask to look around first, before you are seated, so you can pick the area you like best if there's space. One of the rooms - where they have the buffet table at lunch - is a little too warm for my taste. I like cooler open areas. Could just be the time of day that I'm there, and that room is not as warm at other times.

Looks like a great place. All of the flagstone is such a Colorado thing.

I've never been there or even seen the place. I stay too close to home!
