Daughter have a hair drier you can use and the tub's P-Trap is accessible? No?

Drain pipe is steel? Fill the tub up with HOT water. The heat might generate to the P-Trap and thaw it out. No?

Enough table salt poured in the drain might eat it's way to the ice and melt it. No?

72 days till Spring.
I ran hot water already. It hasn't drained yet. I will try the salt. It is not accessible to thaw out with a hair dryer or other means.

It will warm up on Saturday. We should be able to get it thawed out then. I'm kind of afraid the trap is damaged by the freeze. If so, it's going to get ugly in the insurance office below me...

Been there done that, had to tear out a wall and do a lot of extra work when it happened to us, not fun..

We got 3 inches of snow last night, but the sun is out and things are melting fast. I was able to re-canvas my car tent before the snow hit so at least the stuff in there will not get any more snow on it... I need to go out and clean it out at some point. I am tempted to put a couple of tubs of spinach out there, the spinach likes the cool and if I add a couple of grow lights on a timer they would get sufficient light to do well. The space is currently just storage but if I could convert it to do something productive I think it would be a good thing. I have a feeling that food wise things are about to get ugly.

Hope you don't end up with any breaks Spike.
I'm a little anxious: took my old bronco in to the shop yesterday to start the resto. process. Gave the fella a laundry list of things to check and work on as well as instructions to check everything and give a call with anything else he notices. Also stopped by the place that will do the body work and paint and chatted for a quick minute with him & got the go ahead to bring it in when the time comes. This is a 1990 bronco that I've had for about 25 years. I'm the second owner. We discussed getting a new 4WD that in all odds I wouldn't like due to the stupidity of new rigs & decided to restore this one that I know I like, am familiar with and enjoy driving. (Also, it's metal rather than fiberglass.) I'm already excited to get it back 😊

Hope everything is good with your Bronco. In Iowa the DOT puts so much brine on the roads in winter that it gets dicey when you want to restore a 30 year old vehicle - the frame might be corroded and weak. Hopefully yours doesn't have any problems...

We don't have much road care out here  Lucky if the plow makes it by etc. The only thing we want to double check when the time comes is that the rocker panels are in good shape. Hubby is a metal fabricator and has done vehicle restoration in the past (though it's been a long time) so we'll make them right and sturdy if need be. We are pretty arid on this side of the state which is nice from a rusting stand point (opinions may differ from a gardening standpoint.)
PS - just re-read, not 'the only thing' but . . . how do you say that? We will have it all checked over.

I turned on the faucets and cranked the heat up in the house, and the hot water broke loose just after 6AM this morning. The cold water thawed out about 45 minutes later. But I found that I have another problem - the tub drain must be frozen. So now I do have water, but I can't shower or use the tub. Looks like I will be using the showers at my church this weekend...
Pour rubbing alcohol and see if that helps. Our other house shower on north end was prone to freezing as well as washer drain. After first time, I started pouring 1/4-1/2 cup in drains in if the temps were going to maintain freezing more than 6 hours. Never froze up again.

Nice tip, thanks! Wouldn't have thought of it, but it's the same concept as the air brake de-icer we use on our equipment at work...

Hashbrown, I hope things get better for you. Sending virtual hugs.

I thought minimum wage was designed for high school/teenagers to learn how to work and save money. It was not designed to make a living but to strive to get a better job after they prove they are able to hold down a job and continue to be a desirable employee. They need some training as well after high school. Sadly most decide they can’t make enough money at the first hire. They don’t realize start low and get promoted with a solid work ethic.
No. That is a myth that it was only for entry level workers.
Quoting FDR here:
"In my Inaugural I laid down the simple proposition that nobody is going to starve in this country. It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. By "business" I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages I mean more than a bare subsistence level-I mean the wages of decent living.

Throughout industry, the change from starvation wages and starvation employment to living wages and sustained employment can, in large part, be made by an industrial covenant to which all employers shall subscribe. It is greatly to their interest to do this because decent living, widely spread among our 125, 000,000 people, eventually means the opening up to industry of the richest market which the world has known."

Now, a big part of the problem now is that many of the big corporations are not giving more than few cents raise above minimum wage to their employees. Places like McDonalds (at least in my area) are no longer hiring people fresh out of school with no job experience. It is no longer entry level. $15/hr is less than half of a living wage in today's market. So, it's not just that entry level minimum wage jobs are underpaid, but it sets the bar for the progression of pay. The store manager of the local Fred's was only getting $8/hr (no wonder it shut down). Walmart has increased pay to $11/hr but they cut employee's hours. One of my friends who works there got a promotion and they gave him a 2cent pay raise. In some areas just about the only jobs available are the retail an food service jobs. The others require training people can't afford or are so few an far between that most people are stuck with the sucky jobs. The heads of the corporations are dodging taxes or paying less taxes than their impoverished employees, and make more money than they could ever spend in their lifetimes. If their profits were reduced even a little, it still would not hurt them and paying their employees living wages would mean those employees would not need public assistance and they could afford to buy more things, there would be less theft (not eliminated totally of course bc even rich people can be thieves), and the economy would be in better shape. But these greedy jerks can't be bothered to pay people half of a living wage.
Additionally, people who are working for these low wages are having to work harder than their counterparts in previous decades for what is essentially less $ bc there is less bang for their buck. One person has to do the job of 2 to 5 other people. But, it's not just the wages themselves, it's the hours they are given. Most people are only hired part time. No pensions, very little if any benefits, etc. Walmart knows that if someone works fulltime for 12 weeks they qualify for fulltime pay. So they work them fulltime for 11 weeks and give them 1 hour shy of fulltime hours on the 12th week to reset it. Although, now that they are paying $11/hr they have reduced hours. Some people only get 4 hours a week.

TL: DR? What used to be entry level work is no longer entry level. Low starting wages affects overall wage tiers to keep even experience worker wages lower than a living wage.

I know people say they should go get other jobs, but most people can't find other jobs in some areas. Moving is not an option as much either. People are putting blame on the workers instead of the people who are bilking the system & underpaying people and then not paying their fair share of taxes.

So, I'm up early again. LOL. Had cereal for breakfast. Took my vitamins. Fed the kitties. etc.

It's taken me 45 minutes just to catch up on this thread! That's what happens when I take a day away from here! Then DH came home from thrift shopping, so we had show and tell.

Yesterday, walked first and walked dogs.
Rolled some loose change.
Went to Kroger for local sales and Walmart for a few things.
Made an Apple Crumble for a funeral.
Put away 22 quarts of pressure canned dog food.
Went to Prayer meeting.
Gave Oreo sedating drugs for visit next day.

This morning, did an exercise video- too cold.
Gave Oreo more drugs for visit at 10 am.
Took him to vet and he still tried to bite everyone in the room.
Vet upped dosage of drugs for next visit- Good plan.
Right now am washing sheets, comforters and dog blankets.
Next will put flea meds on dogs and cat--hopefully without being bitten.
Prayer meeting at 5:30.
It's been a busy couple of day!

Last night the wife made lemon chews, I don't care for them, never have... However this time the wife segregated 1 row of the bars and made them without the lemon, just for me.... OMG make your eyes roll back in your head good!!!!

Today, I shoveled the driveway and walkways, but it is in the mid 20s with a stiff north wind blowing and the light snow blows onto the concrete, melts, and then refreezes... Not good, so I salted, it may not help but it was worth a try.

The son is going to come home this weekend and we are going to have Matzo ball soup. The wife is very excited at the prospect of seeing him. We got 2 new phones (one for him and one for the wife), He is going to set up his mom's new phone while he's here... I know this because I am holding his new phone hostage until he does... and he really wants his new phone.... (I know I'm bad, but I don't care!)

I was able to order a replacement bowl for the wife's food processor (she dropped it just after Thanks Giving). Her's is a 12 cup unit and the the bowls were out of stock in December, they had lots of the 16 cup ones but not for her unit and the 16 cup bowls are too tall to fit on our counter. She had found one on e-bay, but they didn't include details on the volume and wanted twice what the maker charged and they wanted an additional $50 shipping. I got one from the manufacturer with free shipping....

Snappy, what kind of flea meds do you use? I've tried all sorts but nothing has worked.

Urbanhunter, what is in lemon chews? And what is in them without the lemon? LOL.

I thought my dental appointment was on the 16th but the dentist's office called with a reminder that it's on Monday.

Watched "Finding Your Roots" and "The Mallorca Files" with Mom.

1/2 cup butter, 1 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 1/2 cup crushed gram crackers, 1/2 cup coconut, 1/2 cup chopped nuts, 1 can sweetened condensed milk,

Glazed with 1 cup 4X sugar, 1 TB butter, 2 TB lemon juice, some lemon zest

It comes out like a glazed chewy granola bar that will put you into a diabetic coma....

I'm funny I will eat whole lemons and drink lemonade by the gallon, but I just don't care for lemons in my food....

We use Advantix plus. So far, it works.

Poor Oreo, Snappy. Had to laugh. Our dog Milo is the same. He gets all nervous going places with new people and wants to bite everybody. I have to muzzle him. He doesn't act vicious, just a nervous wreck when he's not at home. People that pet him at our house, he's fine with.
Got the animals done this morning, everything frozen, took an hour. Got a call from a farm neighbor and her 4 week old son wasn't feeling well, needed a ride into the bigger town to the docs. Worried because he was congested. We dropped off her two other little ones at her moms. Took her in, and doc said it wasn't RSV or anything serious yet, but gave her a number to call this weekend if he gets worse to avoid the ER. Told her to stop with the oil difuser (everyone out here uses them). Took her to Walmart afterwards since we were in town for her shopping, and did a little of my own. Picked up the other girls. Came home and finished my laundry, housework, and where did the day go?

18* so I was motivated to stuff insulation in every crook and nanny.

Those corners are now ready for drywall. Only about 10 more of those to go if I don't count around the windows.

Tonight we will hang out and solve all of the world's problems not.

Sorry Z, but I call BS - not on you, but the idea that they can't make enough $ to afford living expenses. I worked as a single mom, paying my own way through college and kept a roof over our heads and kept us fed etc. making just over minimum wage. It's a matter of priorities. We didn't have TV or go to movies or eat out or lots of other things. This wasn't all that long ago - I graduated in '09 so not like last century. The sad part is that they expect a certain lifestyle and don't know any other way. They don't know how to cook, live w/o TV, walk or ride bike etc. to save money.

You know what makes a huge difference? Where you live. You can support yourself where we live on a low paying job no problem, but you can't do that if you live in California or NY or even any city in Florida. Cost of living in your specific area makes a huge difference. But yes, going out to eat is a huge waste of money if you don't have any.

Well it was 11 degrees this morning, not minus 15. I think that was overnight with the wind chill. The 11 is what was on the thermometer outside here. Animals were mostly ok but one of the lambs had a diarreah butt. I gave it some electrolyte, he's still eating not acting sick so maybe just something he ate
Son lives in the guest house across the street and his pipes froze. The house is not really meant to be lived in in winter but he does anyway. The outside part of the pipe is not insulated good enough for that much cold. So now his water heater ( hooked to wood stove like ours) is too hot and he has to cut back on burning wood so the valve doesn't blow.
My cold/covid whatever it is got worse again, I felt like I was just dragging today and did not much other than taking care of the animals , cooking and doing the dishes.
I am ready for spring and it's only January :(

Oh, and cut out the sugar, Dr. Shiva says it knocks out 2 of the 6 functions of your immune system. Not only does sugar hinder your immune system for everyday illnesses sugar is required for most cancers to grow in the body. Reduce the sugar and carbs and give your body and chance at a longer life.

I am SO tired of hearing that! LOL, don't care if it is true, I am not going to eat that way, so there! I have had a sweet tooth all my life, and I love carbs, could do without meat if I have to. I just had an ice cream cone because I feel like crap and it made me feel better. When I was young in my early 20s I had a candy bar for lunch and nothing else.
Still here so far....
( no diabetes, not much overweight, maybe 10 pounds)

Good afternoon everyone.
Fairly quiet day so far.
Emailed a company regarding my order. Last order wasn’t good and I knew better than to give them a second chance. Well now they say it’s shipped yet both labels have been canceled. Online account still says shipped but labels still say canceled. The lady on customer service led me on last order and other than willingly offering to cancel the order vs looking into it days later she was of zero help. So calling I fear it will be her again and a waste of time. I emailed them in hopes of a different person and when I submitted it went blank. So went back and copied it and pasted it into my phone email and sent it that way. We’ll see what comes of it I guess. Need to find a better place to order I guess with USA made items and decent prices. Can’t afford to order in huge bulk for what we use. They would go bad long before being used up.
Weather is decent here. Really going to miss that but temps for the Ozarks are getting back into ok range. Lots of great help on my thread so I’m looking into gear now.
Waiting for hubby to get up. We’re supposed to rip the dash out of the little tractor and I pray he’s able to fix its issues. Mowing season is coming fast and with my MIL’s cancer treatments I’m going to have a lot of work to do and I need to know the tractor will not overheat. Hubby suspects it’s a short in the dash causing the gauge to go wonky. 🤞🏼 Not going to be fun looking for a new dash panel if not. Still have a month or two at least to get it worked out.
Have a few more projects to get done this weekend but nothing major thankfully. Going through more stuff in prep for moving. Making good progress. If only we could find a new home.
Y’all have a good evening! 🤗

I was just sharing the simplest information out of the slew of information that was passed on to me. Some people may like all the suggestions, some people may ignore it all, and some people will pick and choose. I get tired of hearing it too, and get tired of saying it. But we have more and more friends thanking us because it has helped them with various aches, pains, and other health problems. I love pasta and pizza and ice cream, but the longer I go between eating that yummy stuff the more I feel it the next day.

Hope you don't end up with any breaks Spike.

We are doing the same with a 90' Jeep Cherokee. The shop keeps asking if we're sure we want to spend money on such an old vehicle instead of buying a new one. 🤔 YES!

Little bit of excitement in our neighborhood last night. Two people on opposite side of the community spotted a mountain lion on their video cams, and one of our kids friends had a pet pig scratch up during the night. The pig will survive, I guess it put up a good enough scrap to avoid being a meal. Here is a video of it in someones back yard.

Cold out today, got all the critters fed. Extra since it's extra cold tonight. I started cleaning and did laundry.

Tonight I sharpened my edc knives, they were due. My newest 112 and slender Bucks named a "gent". I like the little lock blades. The blade on the one in the middle is badly worn. I carried it almost 30 years.

Years ago I had a '69 Bronco. I loved it. I modified the 302 engine, added a lift kit, larger tires, cut out the fenders to fit the tires and the hood to fit the high rise manifold and 4 barrel carb and put a custom paint job on it. I'd like to find another one and restore it. But for now I'll have to make do with my Jeep Rubicon.
