I got my curbside pickup order. Clerk was extremely nice. She said "Anything else I can get for you, my love?" I know some people don't like it when employees talk that way, but I thought it was sweet.
I totally get this. I always think such endearments are sweet, and I think the younger generations are missing out when they get offended. I grew up hearing my mother call everyone ’honey’ or similar. Now I’m older and have become my mother, always saying ’thank you, dear.’ Older people think nothing of it. Younger people sometimes look surprised, but then they usually smile.

Today, we are going to de-pan the chicken pot pies that are in the freezer. I have some muffin pan liners on order and we will use them for reheating. The drop biscuits the wife made with the left overs were a hit with me... They appeared to be super easy (I might be able to make them) and they tasted good. I was reminded of my poor days (back when my rent was $265 and my bi-weekly pay was $195) and I was eating a mix of top raman noodles, canned biscuits with butter and jam (I think they were 10 cents a tube). So I think I need to develop my cooking skills to include the biscuits, plus some sort of meat gravy so I could stretch my food dollar and be able to use all shelf stable ingredients....

I need to take down the Christmas lights today before the temperature drops again.... I have a lot of indoor work that I need to do this weekend. The indoor garden needs tending. I'm glad it will be a long weekend...

I had two projects for today and some bonus work. First was clear out the car so it can be serviced on Monday to replace the heater core.

Sure that is a lot to carry but I can't count the number of times I was able to handle emergency situations with was in the car. Next project was to clear the kitchen cabinets so I am prepared for the counter template next week.

That let me go for bonus points and figure out how to mount the the under cabinets lighting.

I just duct taped them in place so I could move them around. Now I have to figure how to manage the wires. I have a pet peeve about wires. I don't want to see any. Still need to do some thinking. Cutting and soldering has not been ruled out yet.

MHS is fairly simple-- it lists human needs in a pyramid based on most essential to least essential. The general idea is that when the most essential needs are filled, people start to crave less essential things. It tends to hold true.. But the point is, my brother had never heard of it before I told him about it but then started pretending to be an authority like he was the one who studied it and I didn't know anything. He likes to do this a lot with stuff I've explained to him. It's not a matter of intelligence, but knowledge.

Ben, it looks good!

I cooked for Mom and then made myself some porkchops. I was almost done eating when the meat started to get stuck in my throat- this is something that has been happening more frequently. I'd chewed it up to a paste but I was getting gas/air bubbles that I could feel down lower that wouldn't come up/out and what I was swallowing was getting blocked. I tried burping to get it out but only small air bubbles came out. I thought maybe water might help get stuff down, but it made it worse. Water wouldn't go down and went up to where I could no longer breathe. Started coming out my nose and I had to start throwing up everything from my throat. It got all over me, on the floor, the dogs, etc before I made it to the trash can. I got my mother to pound on my back to get the air belched out enough that I felt like I could breathe and swallow normally again. I finished the last few bites of my food (very carefully) and am exhausted. The dogs ate up whatever fell on the floor, but poor Fippy didn't get it off of his back and went to climb on Mom's lap. I'll have to give him a bath now. At least mom was laughing about it instead of being mad.

Earlier in the day I decided to go cut weeds in the yard to try to clear a path. I used the mini chainsaw but it was slow and I used up one battery on a small section. It's blackberry bushes so they were clinging to my clothes and getting stuck on me. I had to grab each individual vine to cut. Started on second battery and realized I was sweating and short-of-breath so I stopped. I'm going to need something that can cut more weeds at a time without me having to hold on to each vine.

If you can get them cut, then use a pitch fork to pull them out. Helps you stay a little farther away so they don't snag you as much. I've had to wrestle a few myself when we were up the river.

Well, I thought I was going to have a day to get some things done but nope! This morning I received a text from my niece. I'm running late but on my way. I replied "to where". Is it still okay if I bring the dress for you to hem? Oh yea, come on over. While she was here, my folks called: Is it okay if we stop by and pick up the turkey (I bought one for them) and drop off the grill (for Hubby to properly season for them.) Sure. They showed up just after niece left. In the minxed of all that I had to follow up with some steel and get an order in. By the time all that was done, it was after lunch so I went ahead and did the errands I've been putting off - since my day was shot anyways. Went and picked up "potato juice" for hubby in a neighboring town and milk from the creamery.
While niece was here, I asked her if she had any food in her room where her roommates didn't see or know about it. Nope. I asked her to make this old aunt happy and get a few bags of beans, rice, some soup etc. I gave her some coffee cans to put them in so mice won't be an issue. She was all for it when I mentioned some of the supply chain issues going on. (She's young). I didn't go into a lot of detail, and didn't want to "scare" her. She was then a little concerned about her youngest sister and said, "Eh, she can just come see me." She's actually a smart gal. As we were walking out, I asked her if she kept water. No. I gave her 3 water jugs & told her it was only 3 days of drinking water. I feel better having her a little prepared.

Visited with my favorite cousin today. Everyone in both households are finally well, no one has company, and no one has another first born leaving the house. Their Jack Russell Terrier had pups last week, so was able to see the five little ones. Too cute. The dog had to have a C Section, because the pups were too big. The dad dog was a miniature poodles, the pups are Jack a poos. Ha. Chores done around here. Emptied both dehydrators (green beans, cabbage, and corn) and filled up both again (cabbage and carrots). Looks like the twins are both working tomorrow, one works at the burger place, the other is cleaning out a sheep barn for our neighbor that raises sheep. I'm hoping to get going on painting the upstairs bathroom, and measuring for trim the next time I'm in the bigger town. It's supposed to be cold tomorrow, so a good indoor activity.

Making some bread today, cleaning our shower.
Got some squash from my mom so will work on canning that. Our power went out last night (@LadyLocust did yours too?)
Realized that we didn’t have a way to hook the generator in on this house 🤦🏼‍♀️ So going to get a couple of MrBuddy propane heaters. We have been in a holding pattern for a few months due to the move, but we should probably have those.
I’ll squeeze in a workout in there too.
My daughter is still down with Covid. Feeling a bit better yesterday, but can’t return to school until she has a negative Covid test on the 18th, or it’s a 10 day quarantine.

Thanks, Ladylocust. I was using a very short chainsaw (4") so I was having to be up close and these blackberry vines grow like crazy and spread. I'll have to get a picture at some point. Sounds like you were very busy yesterday.

My friend's gf called after midnight to say my friend was having to go to the ER bc he couldn't breathe well & was coughing up dark blood. Unfortunately, the good hospitals are full up so he was stuck going to the crappy one where they send people home to die so it doesn't go on their statistics or they pass them to another hospital. When there is no room in other hospitals, they simply kick people out and leave them to die. Don't do any competent treatment. They've sent home people having heart attack and strokes. But, that is suited for the rant section. Anyway, friend got no real treatment but was prescribed meds and sent home.

His gf's boss and HR at her work have been jerking her around and she's too dumb to listen to me when I told her to get them to send things in writing/text so she has proof of them dicking her around. She tested positive for Covid on Wednesday. Her boss said HR insisted she *had* to come to work today even though she's still sick. So, she went to work & they noticed she was sick. She told the on-site manager the situation. Manager said "NOPE! GO HOME!". Her boss had been telling her she'd be fired if she didn't go in. Manager told her she's not even on the schedule until next week. My friend overheard her conversation with the boss and confirmed he said she had to be back today. So, now she's calling HR and her boss and recording them so she has proof of what they say (single party recording state). She said the boss never answers texts.

I didn't get enough sleep so I'm still tired. My bronchial tubes don't feel so great today after that choking incident yesterday. My 2nd largest cat has volunteered to be my teddy bear right now.

With supply shortages and food going up in price, I'm going to need to buy more meat and freeze it. I should stock up on frozen vegetables as they come in to stock as well.

Hope your daughter feels better! Our daughter in Arizona and son in New Mexico had it a week apart and were very happy to get back to normal. We have a couple of Mr Buddys, have them in case and haven't used them in a long while, but they're here. Waiting for our power to go now that we have the whole house generator, and of course it hasn't. You might also want to keep a marine battery charged and buy an inverter to connect. We've charged the kids chromebooks, cell phones, and ran husband's Bipap with just that. Woodburning stove is going well, warming up. A door doesn't want to stay closed with the cold wind, but not a day to repair a door correctly. Did a rigging job. I saw my cousin's black box phone unit yesterday and that was pretty cool. It is charged with the marine battery inverter method. Comes in a black box with the smaller battery and does fine. No land line needed. Great for the amish and popular now. Cost was $500 for the unit and $17 a month fees. Can go anywhere and it works. She's in her 70's and it's better than running out to the phone shack in this bad weather.

We didn't lose power. It's sure a damp icy kinda cold out though!

Have you seen these? There are many videos: I would not do this on a carpeted floor  and when I did it, I used tealights so they only burn about 4 hrs. It's not a replacement for heat, but easy and certainly does help take the chill off.

Windy here. Went to Wally World to pick up his meds this morning. Picked up some butter there as 2.00 cheaper than local store. Medicare dropped that formulary so cost of 500.00 for one month. Will call doctor Tuesday to see if she can find acceptable replacement. Visited his mom in nursing home. Used state highway rather than I45 due to wind. There is a 200 acre grass fire southwest of us but is reportedly contained. May read and play piano rest of day. Piano for church in morning. Haven’t played at this church in several years.

Yeah it’s nasty out! Guess we are in the foggy season now. My brother is flying in, and I advised him not to get a local flight because of the fog, they always cancel! He couldn’t believe that’s a thing. Haha! I remember the joys of living where he does and not worrying about the weather, only the heat.
I haven’t seen those clay pots! Very cool, will definitely look into that.

Running chain saw and cutting a bunch of brush I've let get ahead of me. Nice day out to work in good and cool, just starting to break a sweat when I feel the need to take a break. Nearly perfect.
It surprises me how often I have to take a break any more. But using the saw I don't like to get too fatigued and have a slip up. Better slow than sorry

It has been a miserable night....dropping temps, high winds, and then the fires, the area firefighters have worked all night to save houses...there has been alot of acreage lost...I am amazed at these little towns....as soon as there is a dangerous situation, the volunteer fire depts go into action...local farmers all pitch in...men offering trailers to move cattle and horses from the danger, our rodeo grounds open to save horses...women writing...do they need sandwiches or coffee...you cannot put a price of love on small town people..they are the salt of the earth...<3

My dad called first thing this morning he has been working on cleaning out his shop. He asked if we wanted his Polaris Ranger 6x6. So we went over and hauled it home today.

Housesitting this weekend. The people went skiing and sent a photo of how little snow there is in Winter Park. They had been watching online and had considered cancelling their plans. Snow and rain were predicted in the metro area yesterday. When I left home in the morning, It wasn't bad temperature wise, but the wind picked up, and the wind was cold. A friend who started out wearing a sweatshirt got really cold during this.

I went to pick up the second dog, and it was cold out. The dog park we go to for this visit is on a creek which serves as a wind tunnel. Owners said not to stay long if it was too cold. Normally active dog walked around a little then sat down and put his ears back because of the cold wind. We only saw one other person there, and she was leaving because she had left home earlier wearing sandals. No other people and dogs were there.

My guess is that many of you have the wind and cold temps that we had yesterday. We did see snow, but nothing that was even noticeable or measureable.

In the little po-dink town where I grew up, there was only a volunteer fire dept. other than if there was a forest fire of course. They were on it like you said any time there was a fire.

We are taking 2 nieces +1 skiing tomorrow. Should be good. Plenty of snow. The only issue is there have been a couple days up near freezing so depending upon if the sun has hit it, it could be crusty in the off pieces but groomers should be fine.

I have a college degree and have never heard of that. It doesn't appear to be anything I'd want to read either. Sounds like psycho-babble. If having read that specific text is the ultimate proof of intelligence, I guess I fail. Gladly.
It is taught in psychology classes. I had 3 psych classes in college, and Maslow's theories were taught and discussed there. Maslow's theories show themselves with children in classrooms. A child whose basic needs are not met has difficulty focusing and learning. I have seen it, especially in the inner city, or when not good stuff is happening in homes of children. I imagine children who live in war zones have a more difficult time with education.
