You are not wrong. I had a bunch of wood sawed up and thought it would do maybe 2 beds. It didn't even get one.
I've cut enough now to just about fill halfway in one bed. Got enough gathered that need sawn to fill the small bed. Ill be back to bring more up to fill #3.
Then I've got 2 more to build after these 3 are full of compost.

And my butt is draggin
I've got a couple of 6' diameter, 12' rotten trees that are the consistency of Styrofoam that are great for filling it in for the first year (easy to cut and haul), but by year#2 they've compacted to 1/2 their size so it's leaves, branches, etc. on top again with more good topsoil to make them ready for year 2 - still way cheaper than filling them up 100% with soil!

Hubby found a gorgeous place in MO, about 200 acres. I asked him where the nearest ski slope was and he almost cried. He was born on skies & I imagine he will be skiing until he's old and decrepit.
😂
I have never been skiing. 200 acres would be awesome

Hmmm..

Nice area.

Very good to know 😉

Just tossing this out there but I know a lady in Tennessee who manages a local owned mortgage company. We went to school together many years ago, aside from that I only know her through facebook but I would say she is honest and straight forward. If Tennessee is on your radar I could get you her contact information.
No state income tax in TN, which is nice :)

Hubby’s up early today. Was able to get in to sign taxes a bit earlier. One more thing off the list hopefully. Need to get ready to go to town.
Later we’re going to go through the freezers and defrost one of the uprights. Get things moved around so when the cow comes back everything is already organized.

Went to Mayfield KY , what's left of it , for Chicago pizza, wife had me stop at every Cato's on the way home.
I'm just happy we made it home before we get bombed with the snow storm.
Temps dropped from 50 to 30 in short order.

Spring has been teasing us long enough.

Jim

It's left here on its way to you!

@Katie Müller This you??? 😂

Had to head to a town about 2-2.5 hrs away to take my wedding ring to be repaired. I came back over the mountain the rural way so I could get some bread. It was snowing - just flurries but I enjoyed seeing it in action. Decided we're giving the nieces and kids silver for Christmas this year since none of them actually "need" anything and figure it's better than money. So, I stopped and picked that up in yet another town on the way back. A lot of driving for 1 day.
Made it home, have a chicken in the oven and got some flour ground, then popped on here. Now I need to get busy again.
We did that with our kids this year - my youngest is 18 and graduated HS last year so we figured it was time to scale back Christmas, and one of the few items in their stocking was a couple shiny silver coins. We've been ranting about the fed and asset-based money long enough they at least knew it was a good intention :)

We have sales tax in WA. We moved here on purpose from OR where there was income tax. Kate Brown took about 9% right off the top just because we worked for a living. Here, we only pay sales tax if we spend money. There is no sales tax on food. I track our spending including what we spend on sales tax. Last year, the amount we paid in sales tax for the whole year was less than income tax would have been in OR for about 2 months.
ETA: Sales tax taxes everyone equally not just those who work.

Wow. A 2-2.5 hour drive. I don't think I've ever been on a car ride that long. I think the longest was an hour and a half when we went to Rainbow Lake for the Feast of Tabernacles. I think I was five years old? I remember some of that trip still. Particularly my mom bringing sliced lunch meats and bread and her making us turkey sandwiches while we drove down there.

With the way things are going, silver will probably be the only thing worthwhile by Christmas. Good choice of gift.

Hey Phideaux, your wife and I are twins. I make husband stop at every Catos, too. But I was disappointed last month, we were an hour and a half from home, saw a Catos, and they had no long skirts. Can you believe that? None.

Problem is #1, I sit in truck and wait.
Problem #2 , she comes out carrying so many bags of clothes, I have to help her.

JK...I love her to death , I wish I could take her to every Cato's in KY.

I'm sure your hubby feels the same.

Btw KY sales tax is 6%,TN is 10% I think.

Jim

We’ve looked a bit around Hohenwald, Tennessee. There’s a place there that would be an easy transfer for work. But our heart is still dreaming of Missouri
Both are beautiful and have a good share of polite folk. Have you looked into the tax rates and cost of living? I am not sure but I think Tennessee is a bit more affordable.

But, have a job lines up is definitely a plus.

Yeah ,but what's the sales tax?
I try not to buy anything across the border because of it.

Exactly. Every state gets their tax dollars one way or another. That is why it is important to look at all tax rates, and cost of living, for possible locations to live. In states with income tax you may pay less sales tax or gas tax or other taxes, but those who work or have a good retirement pay more than those who don't. In states with low or no income tax you may pay more sales tax or gas tax or other taxes, but it helps spread the cost over most of the people and the visitors instead of just those with an earned income.

We have. Missouri is more appealing to us. But nothing is as bad as here.
We’ve found plenty of jobs in Missouri that look promising. It would be hubby going back to his previous occupation. I’m Tennessee if he could get in it would be basically what he’s doing now. I can work some anywhere there is livestock so it more depends on him.

That’s part of what is hard for us to figure out. Taxes and cost of living are less but so is income. Trying to figure out what we need to keep going is hard when we only have here to go off of.

Went to the big town shopping, oh goody. On the way home I stopped to give a lady a few ounces of elderberry bloom tincture. OMG! She’d bought 100lbs of cabbage! On sale for 29cents a pound. Had 2 large crocks full, making Sauerkraut. By large I mean 2 large butter churns. She also had 4, full sheet pans covered with cabbage she was doing something else with. My kind of woman, go big or go home!

She insisted on paying me for the tincture… I don’t charge people who need plant medicine. So, guess who is going to get a few jars of Kraut in a few weeks?

I couldn’t spare any Usnea tincture, she wanted a bottle. I need to make some, been procrastinating. While we were talking in her yard I noticed… her yard had lots on small tree limbs from large water oaks, covered with Usnea!

So I brought home a basket full. I’ll make tincture tomorrow.

Today I worked outside a little, fertilized all the open raised beds, worked on the new solar array frame, put up some poles to support insect netting, then I put plastic over them to protect my outdoor plants; FYI it was 60 this afternoon and I BBQed some chicken legs in a Tee Shirt, tomorrow we have a wind advisory and snow.

State sales tax is 7%, Some locals add thiers on to that. We pay 9,25 in our county. But like lady L said you only pay it when you make purchases. Govenor is trying to get passed where food is non taxed. That would be good.

Double R, Hohenwald is probably 4-5 hours west of us. I'm partial to the area east of the Cumberland Plateu

What field is Hubs in?
