DH and I limped through the day but did get quite a bit accomplished and DH washed the dishes and cleaned the kitchen benches and I wiped them and put them away. DH also put on a load of washing, hung it on the clothes line and brought it in when dry. I watered some more of the back yard with saved grey water from our showers and washing machine.

We picked the last of the sweet potatoes approx. 75kg and put them on the veranda and planted the little ones back in the garden beds around each watering system dripper. The last of the pumpkins were also harvested although they were much smaller than usual due to the dry conditions here.

We then went out and got some more firewood from under the house and loaded it on the veranda.

Feeling a little better but both of us now have it and we took some Echinacea and zinc tablets to boost our immune system and we are both aching and feeling weak.

Don't push yourselves to hard. Get plenty of rest and feel better soon.

Thanks for the idea for making our own dehydrator @Amish Heart seen a couple of plans online and then promptly forgot about them some time ago :). We shall look again and see what we can come up with to make one. Love the screaming banshees and relate to grandchildren making lots of noise and running rampant.

Think it is a definite I have the flu as I am not feeling any better this morning and woke up in the middle of the night coughing and with a really sore throat, so am sitting and relaxing at the moment. Still have a bit to do outside like putting up trellises for the peas and planting some of the smaller sweet potatoes back into the gardens for next years crop as well as getting the sweet potatoes on the veranda on paper to cure. Shall see how I go and won't overdo it.

Prayers voiced for both of you this morning at prayer time. Rest as much as possible and eat and drink.
Get well soon!

Picked up all rose clippings from the rose garden this morning (using my handy garden wagon) and wheeled them out to the wooded area (also picked up downed branches to take to same place). Did two loads of laundry including bed sheets. Made macaroni salad. All done this morning. I'm pooped!

President Trump is rallying in Nashville today so I worked from home. The line of over a thousand people to see the president began about 6 this morning. The traffic would have been heavy to get into the Nashville area. Several storms have moved into our area this afternoon but nothing to keep me inside. ;)

@Terri9630 and @gumpy thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers we continue to feel better this morning having paced ourselves and rested in between yesterday.

The huge meal of roast pork and freshly picked and cooked garden vegetables last night seemed to work a treat filling our bellies with fresh produce. The Echinacea Ace and Zinc tablets are working wonders along with the cold and flu tablets and I can now breathe again so my chest congestion has cleared up after taking asthma meds the first couple of days before bed. Should be able to take myself off the cold and flu tablets after today after using them as a temporary measure.

Recommend everyone keep Echinacea and zinc tablets and vitamin c in their medical arsenal against colds and flu as it works wonders if you take them immediately you get cold and flu symptoms.

Started mowing at 10:30 am, usually only takes 3-3 1/2 hours,I got done at 5:30 pm. I think that's just a tad longer isn't it :dunno: ?? Course it might have had a little to do with the fact I had to go to Berne to get the drive pulley for my mower so Scott could finish it ;) :D . Man I was so happy, mowing with my neighbor's was going to take me at least twice as long and it being around 90 degrees,I wanted to get it done and back into the A/C. Have I ever said I HATE summer?
(In case you haven't figured it out,I can be a smart *** at times lol.:D )

I've had a bit of bad news.

My very, VERY good ortho shoulder surgeon has had a family emergency in Europe and has cancelled all appointments and surgeries until further notice.
I pray his situation improves and I suppose it's going to sound selfish but it's thrown a huge spanner in my surgery planning.
I can't get my knee or hip surgeries done until both shoulders are fused and healed.

My wonderful GP like wise has had a family emergency in his home country of Lebanon. He does have family in Syria who haven't been able to be contacted
so I can imagine his concern. All too often innocents are caught up in conflicts that aren't of their making.
He also hasn't given any indication when he'll return to his practice.

Both these gentlemen have my utmost respect as physicians and as decent human beings.
More importantly I TRUST them and their opinions on my condition.

They are going to be missed and finding others who I trust as well is going to be hard because trust is something that just isn't given
easily or naturally.

I pray for both of them and may God almighty hold them and theirs in the shadow of his wings.
Amen.

We did go out today to finish our grocery shopping for the 2 months and go to the hardware store to get more seaweed solution and some shovels. The grocery store had another $15 off $100 purchase making it cheaper than shopping at Aldi so we got cheaper cat food wet and dry and some more tinned fruit as well as some more Echinacea and zinc tablets on half price special as well as some throat lozenges as we were low on both. Got home and dated and put it all away in the cupboards.

Tonight's dinner is going to be a lovely potato and sweet potato soup as we are expecting it to get down to 0 oC with frosts here tonight on the mountain.

I have three very very long days of work ahead of me. My assistant is out, so I won't be home till about 7 at night. So dinner will be creative this week. Will put some pork in the crockpot before I leave, and make a salad this morning. Husband still working from home, week 3 after falling. He's been making do with me making him breakfast before I go, packing a lunch and putting it in an icechest.

In the past couple of days we have finished the interior framing and hung most of the drywall at the mtn place. Got a lot done but have more to do and I'm sore. We have a friend coming up from Mississippi to build our kitchen cabinets so we have to finish up in the kitchen.

Today I started the day off with putting on a load of washing in the washing machine, hanging it on the clothes line and watering part of one side of the house with saved grey water from our showers and washing machine. I came inside and then after washing my hands put on a loaf of bread in the bread machine.

DH and I moved into the food storage room and then moved all the full food storage buckets into another room off the shelves and onto the floor so I don't put my back out again. We then moved items into like with like so when we get our large food order on Thursday we can put them up on the shelves in boxes.

Out into the gardens where we harvested the rest of our sweet potatoes and finished up with a slightly over level 90lt wheelbarrow full which we have under the house. Tomorrow we will put them up on the veranda on newspaper and plant the small ones back into the garden for another crop for next year around this time. I just listed 10 homemade items and some saved seeds from the garden on eBay using a free listing promotion and also sold another bread bag I made.

Think I might be coming down with the flu again and feel pretty chronic so I took some cold and flu tablets to see if that helps. Hopefully it is just the usual high temperature and my body will fight it off.

NOT from CONCENTRATE. Apple Cider. It really works. And chicken noodle soup. Hope your well soon and its just a cold or alergy.

:huggs:.

Been very busy past few days. Got a lot done, plus exercising.

I have my first eye appointment today at the good eye hospital in Birmingham. It was raining when I woke up this morning after only 3 hours of sleep... I dread this, it's about 90 miles away but most of it is interstate. Hopefully they will be able to schedule surgery after this. At the very least I will learn the process and get a rough timeline... :)

The news isn’t as good as I hoped but there is progress none the less. The eye doctor I saw today is going to refer me to an eye surgeon. An appointment will be made in maybe a month. The surgeon will run the same tests as today plus a few others to develop a surgical plan. Then a surgery will be scheduled, maybe in another month. Hopefully by Labor Day I’ll be able to see again.

My eyes… My left eye has two types of cataracts but they aren’t bad. My right eye on the other hand, had 3 types of cataracts. The first two, same as the other but the 3rd… He said there was supposed to be a film like cellophane on the back of the lens. He said mine didn’t look like cellophane, it looked like bubble wrap. Oops!

He also said the eye surgeries will probably be done separately. At least there seems to be a process and a way to go forward! :)

@Peanut yes they usually won't operate on both eyes at once otherwise you would be totally blind. At least they have a surgical plan and a way to move forward to treat your eyes. Hmm bubble wrap probably why your eyesight is so blurry or almost not functioning at all.

I am also half blind in one eye as they said one of my eye lenses didn't develop properly from birth and it was so bad when I was a child I would walk into door frames having no concept of depth perception. It is a lot better now than it used to be but I still can't read with it unless the writing is humungous but the other eye I have 20/20 vision in. I only need glasses for close up reading but not for distance. My husband is surprised at my ability to work in the dark and be able to do things by feel which I found natural having such poor eyesight as child.

Grocery delivery has arrived from our purchase of 2 x $350 e-vouchers for $600 and we have about $620 worth of flour, sugar, rice tinned goods, meat and dairy to put away. They were out of stock on $87 worth of things we had in our order but we have an online ordering grocery credit for that we have a year to use. Now to just see if it all fits in our tiny second pantry room. I am sure with DH's military packing and a bit of shuffling we will be able to do it and we are now up to 9 - 12 months supply on all of our groceries that we use apart from butter which we cannot fit that much in the freezer. The student delivery driver was happy as they get paid per box they deliver so it was a huge order with lots of boxes and we gave him some freshly picked sweet potatoes to take home to feed their student household with.

We believe in being charitable and blessing those with lower incomes around us that we see and, occasionally when we can, adding a bit of joy to someone's day by surprising them.

I work for an eye surgeon and I’ve never seen him do both eyes at once. He’s really good at it. If he thinks it’s too high risk, he will send them to Dean McGee eye institute in OKC. I never realized how many people have cataracts.

Thank all of you for the support... sort of scary...

I was really impressed with the clinic today. I’ve had glasses since high school. In more than 40 years I’ve never had a more thorough eye exam. My doctor had a few tricks I hadn’t experienced. A weird thing with a hand held refracting lens. I’ve seen hand held lenses, but not like this one. Another weird one with a tv screen across the room and letters that danced on purpose, never seen that one.

This was a veteran affairs eye clinic on the 5th floor of one of the best eye trauma centers in the country. All of the staff were civilians who work for the University of Alabama in Birmingham, a medical school complex and hospital. The hospital is nationally ranked between 10th and 15th depending on the specialty. There are 100’s of hospitals in the US, 10 to 15th means something.

I’ve worked in 1000’s of hospitals on 3 continents, I know quality when I see it. The professionalism I experienced today, I haven’t seen in many years. It made me nostalgic for the days when I worked on R&D Catscans in the best hospitals in the world.

@NannyPatty @Grizzleyette___Adams

I got other good news today, considering I was a welder for many years as a young man... My doc said my retina’s, optic nerves, fluid, blood vessels in my eyes and externally looked like those of a man half my age.

Now I know which plant medicines I take that would work on my optic nerves (sweet leaf) and the blood vessels(40 or so +/-). My retina’s and eye fluids, not sure but have my suspicions… I think I’ll float this bit of news past a few herbalists I know. If I get a consensus I’ll report back. ;)

It's got me curious

@Grizzleyette___Adams Keep reading Matthew Wood. You'll find what helps any nerve, and any blood vessel. :)

@Peanut : I have had both eyes done, one at a time. Just a friendly reminder, during surgery, you should not feel ANY pain, if you do, stop the doctors and let them know. I didn't know this and it cost me a punctured eye. No pain, period. Other than that oops, it all went very well. Very happy to hear you are going to get the very best in care. keep us updated,
