Had a good weekend - gave myself permission to sleep in and take it easy a little bit (LOL - I doubt getting up at 7 is sleeping in on weekends for some people).

Had one of our neighbors' sons, who's best friends with my middle son, come over and talk to us about having his wedding reception in our backyard next month. They'll help with the weeding/landscaping which will be nice, and it'll give me some motivation to keep the whole yard upkept as opposed to just the parts my dear wife uses... This will be the 4th reception in a dozen years, including my middle son and daughter in law last year. Fortunately we did a lot of heavy lifting for that one, so really all we'll need to do for this one is weed and replenish some gravel and mulch :)

Had a nice 4th, had off of work so I puttered around knocking off some projects I've been wanting to finish in the morning, and had a BBQ with the kids that evening and then watched Independence Day which is a family tradition.

Today is back at the salt mines concrete plant, where I've got more on my plate than hours in the day - including 7 videoconferences, 5 of them conflicting with each other. I wish some of my coworkers would look before they schedule!

(LOL - I doubt getting up at 7 is sleeping in on weekends for some people).

I'm one of the people who consider that sleeping in. lol

My weekend was quiet. Stayed in on Sat, it was supposed to thunderstorm but we barely got any rain. I did some indoor cleaning. Sunday we went fishing, it was a beautiful day and we caught some bass and crappies. Nothing spectacular but better than getting skunked. Monday I weeded my garden beds, they were overgrown since I haven't touched them since before I went to FL.

Then I found the pokeweed in my raspberry bed was back even though my neighbor cut it down twice so I decided to dig it up. I had no idea the roots were so huge on those things. I had to stab the crown repeatedly with a garden fork to break it into pieces and remove it, then I went after the root. I am not kidding that this thing was bigger around than my arm, but I was determined by that point. I dug down as far as I could, unfortunately the root went under the concrete of my neighbor's shed so I had my son hold the root while I cut it off as deep as I could. It better be gone now.

Then I harvested a bunch of raspberries and rhubarb and froze them. Thinking I'll make raspberry rhubarb jam.

Back at work today.
😢

I'm doing nothing.
Muggy, hot, rainy, hotter nothing.
I guess I'll take out the trash and do laundry when I just have to. its a chore just posting.
Back to sleep.

More clearing that back porch. Getting deep into the corner of stuff that must have been property of a friend of my buddy. I have not spoken to that character in a decade or more. I invited him to leave my house and not come back. He had started yelling at me in front the eldest granddaughter and frightened her.

He had been ejected from the place he rented and it looks like his stuff was stashed on the porch and abandoned. I seldom toss books but the stuff he had I have no interest in. Psychology garbage, weird philosophy all went in a recycling bin. Containers of muscle relaxers (I looked them up) years of high times magazines trashed and recycled. I am going to have to figure out what to with the large light bulbs from what can guess was a grow operation. Bother!

I have one more box of what looks to be books and then there is that mysterious chest at the bottom of the pile.

I normally find something worth keeping when clearing out storage but everything in this pile is just trash. Maybe I'm being a bit vindictive but it has been a decade or more and I am mildly irritated that contraband was stashed on the back porch and I have to figure out how to deal with it.

Good riddens!

Ben

We had today off utilizing a floating holiday.
Nice 4 day weekend..I needed it ..I just wish it had not flew by so fast.
Today I walked the dog a nice long walk on a part of the trail with 3 water holes.
Then back home to water all the trees bushes n garden real good.
Last night I planted more onions garlic beets n potatoes oh n carrots. The grasshoppers are bad again. I'm not sure above ground plants will make it so I'm going to push more root crops. My squash looks ok though.
I also cleaned up Hoochs grave n put some strawberry in it n flowers that will come up in fall.
Anyways, today I'll now finish up laundry, get my stuff ready for the workweek n chill n catch up on news. I gotta stay up late since I'm still on nights..so probably work on a rug too..

Still a good boy..gunna push up pretty flowers ..

Hooch ( well Hooches owner, don't know your name) , that looks a lot like the grave of my dog.....

I got my new puppy today!! He is so cute and already peed outside twice ( and once in the house right after I fed him....now I know to take him out immediately after) . The people we got him from are homesteaders that moved here from Florida just like us and they used to have similar jobs also. How weird is that?

Will post photos when I get them downloaded

we finally got some rain ( half hour thunderstorm ) which we needed , pasture starting to look dry

You really need to find something to do you enjoy....just saying....not just chores
There has to be something ! Bake you some cookies or something, I can give you a recipe. Might cheer you up!

Caught up on home stuff today. Lots of laundry, animal chores, in the garden for a few hours, dug the remaining potatoes, emptied freeze dryer of beets, rehydrated a few slices for husband and he gave them a thumbs up. Filled up the freeze dryer again with beets. Cleaned a bunch of corn I picked up. Put away all the fourth of July hoohah stuff from last night. Got a call from one of my cousins saying my uncle in Northern Kansas passed away. Haven't seen him in a few years, and he was not doing well at that time. His wife passed last year.

Worked on the GF's daughters car the last couple days. Front wheel bearing, both front rotors and new brake pads. That was the easy part. Right headlight was not always working, sometimes on and sometimes off, but it would come on again if you wiggled the wire. Pulled the bulb and saw the plug was partially burned and cracking apart. Last night before work I got the new $10 generic plug but had to cut the old plug off and connect the new one which required pulling a few bolts off the fender to move it aside and pulling the front bumper away from the passenger side to unbolt the plastic headlight assembly to pull it out far enough to be able to reach the wires. What an absolute pain in the backside to do a simple repair. I hate newer cars, it is a 2012, and any simple task is far too difficult. You have to pull back the inner fender well to reach the back of the light to replace the bulb when it burns out and even that barely lets an adult sized hand in far enough to twist the bulb out of the socket. Drove the car to work and the brakes no longer pulse when stopping and the headlight worked as it is supposed to. I am tired, time for a shower and bed time.
Tomorrow? I dunno, we shall see what I feel like doing. Who knows, maybe i will do something on the house. (doubt it)

Heading to work! I got a lot done outside this morning!! Everything fed and watered, took Bear for his morning walk. That's when we work on his obedience training, he's so willing to learn!! Also drove the t-posts where I am expanding his pool yard. He needs more running room out there! So I am wore out, but won't have any hard work outside when it's 105°!

I actually am today. I'm shopping.
Yes, I'm a freak among men. LOL

I try and do something creative everyday- normally its knitting, today making cards, as well as everyday chores, weeding and making jam. I have to prepare for college projects next year so try and write a bit each day if the head is in the zone. I really should dig for fence posts but not in the mood :D

I've enjoyed excellent heath for most of my life, but I picked up some low-grade fever or summer head cold over the weekend... I was running a temperature last night, two or three degrees above normal, but otherwise felt okay. Today I still have a low-grade fever, maybe one to two degrees over my normal temp, and I have a low-grade headache to go with it. I very rarely get headaches, it has been YEARS since I had one, but even this low-grade number is bothersome, so I'm taking it easy today, resting up and reading a library book.

When my siblings & I were kids (one sister & seven brothers), me beloved & dear departed mum would give us chicken bouillon or chicken soup for this sort of malady. Waxing nostalgic, I drove to the nearby Dollar General and bought some bouillon, now I'm on my second mug of it, lol. It is delicious! I think my body was craving broth & salt, ya know? I have plenty of chicken soup here, but I wanted the bouillon... otherwise I'm hammering the low-grade sore throat with heaps of water & fruit juice. No beer today, lol... it is VERBOTEN until the fever is gone. ;)

I also have some unsweetened tea & lemonade to mix, that combo will help somewhere down the line today. Right now, I believe I'm gonna make one more mug of that bouillon, it is making me feel better... probably a placebo effect, but it seems to be working, and my throat feels much better. I won't eat any solid food until I feel better all around, best to let the water, juice & bouillon work their magic... tea & lemonade too, gotta stay hydrated. I've always healed fast, with luck this low-grade bug will be outta here pronto... at least it's nothing serious, more of an annoyance than anything else.

1 Girl with 8 brothers! She must be one tough gal!

WooHOOO! my beloved Alfredo is back in stock! I bought a case!
And a nice, marbled 10$ roast to be converted to a 3 Lb steak later. :D

Now look at this thing I bought, a spaghetti squash. I'm thinking let this little beast ripen a few more days, smother it in garlic butter and slow grill it until it falls apart, then cover it in a medium cream sauce and bacon bits.
Might try to sprout the seeds if its not been zapped!

Hope you feel better soon- big fan of chicken soup here also for flus/colds- and strangely, tomato soup works for me

I have to go to the cemetery to approve my brother's grave marker.
I'm not looking forward to that but it has to be done.

After waiting for 30 minutes the girl finally came back from lunch and sat in her car on the phone for over 5 minutes. She then informed me she did not have the headstone so I'll have to come back in a few weeks.
She had no doubt in her little pea brain I was not happy.

They will grow - I've done that.

Be strong bro. they didn't consult me about my bro's tombstone and they got the color of his truck wrong!
In life, ever truck he drove was dark blue or black, he said red was bad luck. now he's stuck in one for eternity!

Doing something creative every day is a very good thing. It lets our mind expand which is very helpful when trying to solve problems. Plus sometimes you get something really pretty out of it

There's a nasty bug going around these parts. A friend got it, layed her out. She's badly run down, over does it everyday. Her's turned into a sinus infection, been to the doctor, wasn't covid. Then she called me yesterday... She has several good antiviral tinctures. I told her which ones I'd take. She felt so much better today she called me while on the way to dig potatoes.

Computer work… Yesterday I needed a file off an old storage cd. I searched for an hour, had data cd’s in every room. A looong over due chore! Spent the last two days going through all of them, tossing out the junk. Why I had saved a documents folder from 1998 escapes me…

But I went through every folder on every cd, looked at almost every file, thousands of them. I found a lot of music. For years I’ve worked on pc’s for friends etc. It usually consisted of wiping the drive and reloading the os. I saved all their personal files first. If they had music I made a copy for myself.

I found over a gig of music last night, about 400 songs. I was probably doing a major system backup of my pc and got interrupted. I must have skipped a few files. It was so long ago I don’t remember when these files went missing. I found them on cds from 2003.

Recently I bought some music cds. I got a couple by Lyle Lovett, by the Old Crow Medicine Show and the like. My taste in music is eclectic. Anyway, got them loaded on my pc, converted all of them to mp3’s so I can play them in my truck from a thumb drive.

Felt better by afternoon, so I went ahead and BBQd, lol... ears of fresh corn in the husk, a burly London Broil which had marinated for a day-and-a-half, an onion & some hot peppers. Whoowhee!!! Those peppers were HOT too, which was good, as hot peppers burn viruses & other germs out of our systems. They burn other stuff too, but a little collateral damage is acceptable, lol. I only ate so much steak, about a third of the broil, so I have plenty left for sandwiches in days ahead. I ate nearly two ears of corn, husking and shaving the half-dozen ears left over... I'll reheat those kernels in a casserole dish in the microwave, with butter and pepper. Trust me, that corn will be delicious, lol... :)

Now I'm comfortably full (but not too full), and I'm heading to my rack to read a book... dishes were scraped & soaked, I'll do those manana, there's no inspection tonight, lol. Boy, it felt good to cut loose after the less-than-stellar BBQ on the 4th, no cultural gap to bridge. I macked hard and washed it down with a root beer, loudly belching the whole time, lol... did y'all know I have Arab blood in my veins? No lie, it's 'STREET ARAB' from my skateboarding days, but it's still ARAB, so don't mess with my loud belching, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Belching is considered a compliment to the chef (in this case, moi), the louder the better... anybody who doesn't hold with this fine Arab custom is clearly a RACIST & a BIGOT, lol.

Pretty soon, I'm gonna fully convert to Islam---"The Religion of Peace!!!"---and start sawing off some heads, lol. Unlike those primitive fools who hack heads off with knives, I'm gonna use a Husqvarna chainsaw to make things easier. No need to get cramp or tendonitis in my forearm, pffffffft. I'll line up the victims, fire up the ol' saw, and go to town, don'tcha know? Oh, wait, I need to buy more gas for the saw... that's the only drawback to this chainsaw usage, it burns fuel, and I like to run premium in the Husky. Dang, another setback due to Biden Economics!!! Guess I'll have to search the car console and living room sofas for chump change... manana! But one day, I'm gonna be a TRUE CONVERT to "The Religion of Peace!!!" ;)

Y'ALL BE GOOD, I'M SPIRALING TOWARD MY RACK TO GET HORIZONTAL... TOMORROW'S ANOTHER DAY!!!
