We just picked a wheel barrow of corn about 130 ears. The bears were starting to get into it so it was time to pick.Thats enough for us and i'll give away the rest. There are hundreds more and any one that wants it can have it.
I always plant for us and those that need or want it.

Slept till almost 4 this afternoon. Wanted to get up early so I could change the fuel filters in my powerstroke. That didn't happen. Maybe tomorrow. But I doubt it. Gonna be a rough one tonight. I'm supposed to have seven maintainers and 3 techs including myself. The maintainers operate the equipment and do changeovers and simple repairs while myself and the other techs handle more detailed maintenance and help the maintainers run when they're short. Well in their infinite wisdom the front office didn't plan for one of the palatizer operators being on vacation, or the other not being staffed at all cause they sent her to days without hiring a replacement. They also didn't staff for us not having a line attendant or a chemical process operator. So right off the bat I lost my two techs to fill two of those positions, and lost two of my more senior maintainers to fill the other missing spots.

Because they still haven't hired a night shift supervisor I have to fill that spot and am short yet another maintainer cause one is out sick with covid.

So yeah. Fun night.

Been there, done that more than once. No Fun at all. BE SAFE

Last night I was so proud when I paid off the credit card… This didn’t last very long. Didn’t want to spend the money but I needed a reliable chainsaw. My old husqvarna had become a pain, every time I needed it I’d spend a half hour working on it first. Then last week it developed a major fuel leak. I replaced the split fuel line but I think it got split taking it apart because it still has an issue. I fill it with gas and half the gas leaks rapidly from the tank. I think the plastic tank cracked or the male fuel line connector is cracked.

Dad wanted to take it to a shop this morning and did so. They kept the saw but there’s a 2 week backlog of work orders. I need a good saw now… got to get the chicken pen rebuilt asap, so I spent the money tonight.

Got a Stihl MS-251, msrp was $399. I got it for $379… but (there’s always a but)… if I bought an overpriced gallon can of pre-mixed fuel the manufacturer’s warranty automatically extends for another year. Basically I paid $399 but I got a full 2yr warranty and metal gas can w/fuel. Normally I wouldn’t consider an extended warranty but when I’m dropping Benjamin's what’s another $20?

It was more than I wanted to pay but gotta do what I gotta do. This saw should last about 12-15yrs. Longer than I’ll want to use one, but in the mean time I’ll have a reliable saw. I have a couple spare chains too, uses the same chain as the husqvarna, same bar.

Hopefully this issue is now behind me, except picking up my new “boat anchor” that dad dropped off at the small engine shop. If by some miracle they can replace the fuel tank for less than $50 then I’ll have a backup saw too.

Oh, in case anyone is in the market... Stihl now makes fuel injected chainsaws. The floor model was a big boy, 70cc engine with a 28 inch bar, only $1500. I can't imagine carrying that saw around all day in alabama summer heat.
Lord, no...a 20 inch saw is enough for anything I'll ever do.

We have an 18 inch Stihl and a 20V Milwaukee cordless chainsaw at work. Once we got the Milwaukee nobody wants the Stihl any more. We keep 4 batteries on a charger in the truck and that saw will cut through several railroad ties before it needs a new battery. It's absolutely critical to keep a sharp chain on it, that's the key. It's so much lighter and handier than the Stihl. I'm considering getting one for myself...

I was feeling poorly this morning and slept in. I spent some time on the phone and then when my daughter got home we started 3 loads of laundry at the laundromat. Then we went up to her little half sister's soccer practice to watch. After that we went up to our church's ice cream shop and got some fantastic ice cream. Now the last of the laundry is in the dryer and we're watching CSI Miami reruns. I'm researching used cars in case my Equinox is totalled from my daughter's fender bender. It's the wrong time to be in the market for a used car...

The MS661CM isn't too bad to lug around. But if ya run less than a 32" bar it's horribly back heavy. It's actually my favorite saw. But when bucking small stuff I tend to run my 462. Though sometimes I'll throw a 24" bar on my 661 and let it eat. That thing is spinny and torquey when running a little bar. Eats right through the hardest of hickorys around here.

Haven't tried out the 500I yet. Just haven't found a justification to buy one.

It's surprising how often I find myself making use of my MS880 and its 60" bar. Took down a hazard elm for a lady a month or two ago. Even with that 60 inch bar I had to plunge cut it on the trunk.

Your a lot younger than I am. I'd hate to think about using a 60" bar on any saw

Sometimes its not the year. Its the miles. I have a lot of miles. Not like highway or city miles. But through a chiseled field miles. And a lot of aftermarket parts. My bike wreck from last year left me with titanium rods in my neck and ankle. And I broke my lower back when I was in the Corps. Which left me with a titanium cage and cadaver bone.

But we all have our aches and pains.

I don't reckon I have too many more years lugging around a twenty five pound power head.

I am not man enough anymore for a 28 inch bar :(. it's been a long long unpaved road.

Today was the last of my early days, I got off at 14:00 and decided to treat all my camo with bug juice, I made up 3 gallons in a five gallon bucket and dipped each item of clothing in it for a couple of minutes, wrung it out in another bucket, and then hung up the wet item. I then poured the collected juice back into the soaking bucket and added more clothes. I kept this up till all the juice was gone.. This is the first time I have used this stuff so I can't tell you how it works. Tomorrow is opening day and I am getting off at noon to go for a walk.

FYI, my DW has managed to fill every freezer we have with garden stuff and casseroles, so I have no idea what I will do if I harvest something. ;)
Well, I got to go for my walk today. I went back in 2 miles before reaching the spot I wanted to hunt. My buddy was hunting closer to the trucks, he texted me that he saw a large 8 point buck in velvet. About an hour later I see the biggest buck I have seen since moving east, at least 10 points with ragged velvet, long body and blackish coat, he stayed just out of bow range and then I thought that dragging that thing 2 miles out could put me under, then I realized the I don't have any place to put it if I get it home. So I resolve to just try to get a picture if he comes back. He never did, but a small buck, a spike, 3 large doe's, and a fawn decided to eat right under me.... It took 3 or 4 flashes from my phone camera before they spooked.. All and all I ended up seeing over a dozen deer... I got to get the freezers emptied out..... ;) To be honest it was the first time in a very long time that I was able to have someone watching the wife so I could go away from the house in the day time, so it was a very good day for me..... Definitely recharged the old batteries... :)

I've been getting telemarketer calls every fifteen minutes since 9:00 this morning. I've said so many horrible things to those poor robots, if they were human, they'd blush!
But here's the kick!
Same company, different number every time!
Its probably scammers. They spoof numbers and try to get you to pick up. They get you to talk on the phone and hope you say "yes". If they don't have anything recording you, sometimes they just log whether or not you pick up the phone so they can sell your number to other companies so those companies can call and harass you.

Wingnut, I'm glad you got weeds taken down. I still need to drag my weed piles farther away from the house to burn. Need to cut more of them down of course. When you used the Spanish word for tomorrow it reminded me of a restaurant called Casa Manana.

Ben, I hope the elderberry wine turns out well if you decide to make it.

Amish Heart, sounds like you've been busy. I hope the neighbor gives the kittens good homes.

I just finished eating and am about to take a nap.

Dang Griz. Hate to hear about all the hardware. My wife has a fusion of C6/C7 and a Titanium cage from C2 to C6. Plus a shoulder joint. Knowing what shes been thru, I can imagine what you deal with. My prayers are with you

Quiet afternoon & evening after all, no TV... wound up reading a Western until I fell asleep, lol. No worries on the nap, I did enough work this morning to deserve one. Knocked out a large chunk of the property today, and even though I still have some weeding to do, the end is in sight... about a month away, lol. The weeding is now a mixed bag of goatheads and overgrown whatevers... saw some puncturevines out on the parking strip on the south end today, maybe I'll pull a few of those tomorrow after I water the trees & plants. I just cleared that area a week ago, it's amazing how fast these goldurned goathead vines get established... but I'm slowly winning the fight, just gotta stay on it till the colder weather arrives and puts the kibosh on the blasted weeds.

I hope the tire swap goes alright tomorrow, no hitches or snags after waiting so long. As a younger man, I'd do this sort of work myself, but I don't have a stand for this monster thumper, and at my age I'd rather not wrassle with tires anyway... I've already done my share of that sorta work. So I'm farming it out to a local shop, they seem competent enough to handle a simple job like this. If everything goes well, I can look forward to riding the Rim Trail next week... no point in riding up there on weekends, although the 'trail-riding crowd' should thin out now that Labor Day is behind us. I'd rather have the trails to myself, or share 'em with fewer riders... although I'm hoping to eventually meet other riders and share some adventures with 'em. Heaps of trails up there in the mountains, hundreds of miles of trails...

Sorry to hear about your wife's troubles. I fractured my C5 c6 and T1 when I wrecked my bike. When I broke my back years before it was my L3 and L4 that ended up being replaced. So. Not horrible. Could of been a lot worse.

My neck really isn't too bad off now that I'm healed. My ankle bothers me more than anything. But a conservative amount of ibprophrin and a liberal dose of suck it up and I'm ok.

Tomorrow, we go to "White Oak Marathon", a gas station/beer bar that has a beer I want to try. Then we go someplace for a "Lunge line", which I gather is a like a horse leash :p

She had a head on wreck that broke her neck. It's led to all the other stuff. She don't give in too often, till she has too.

I've got herniations at L4/L5. But no surgery yet. Hope to get by without that. Still a pain to deal with.

BTW, Thank you for your service!!!
I understand. I do tap out from time to time. Though mindfulness, I've found, helps me more than any amount of medication.

I learned a long time ago not to judge how someone else reacts to their pain. Pain is a individual perception. So I can't fathom how their pain feels to them based on how my pain feels to me.

It was a pleasure that unfortunately ended before I was ready for it to.

I agree. Everyones pain threshold is different. Injuries though similar are different too in many cases. After all I've saw the wife go thru, it makes me ashamed to even bitch when I'm not feelin good

Been on the go a lot lately. Hubby made it to MT last night. The area he was planning on hunting is on fire so - plan B. Note* He didn't even really have a plan A. Ha! Well he called today from 8000' and hadn't seen anything or heard anything. He was able to glass pretty well from there so has a little different plan for tomorrow. He sent a pix of where he's camping - beautiful!
I got a few of those tedious time consuming tasks done today that have been haunting me. Seeds are all organized and back in the box other than the couple I'm planting for fall garden. Got a batch of tomato sauce worked up and canned. Several have mentioned cherry tomatoes. I slice them in half and can them. They are Hubby's favorite for Swiss steak. Also great to throw in taco soup - but we like tomatoes. @UrbanHunter I was looking at a small chest freezer today. We are in the same boat! Hubby claimed the box that was my extra freezer to use as a beer fridge (it can be either) so now I don't have room, our beef is at the butcher and Hubby is hunting. This will be the year he gets his elk. 😆 Not complaining by any means - just funny how things work.
Our house was a disgrace so today I got the office, the bathroom and the living room cleaned. Tomorrow morning I will do our bedroom then consider the dining room and kitchen which have been abused lately. Also need to work outside. They are finishing up harvesting the onions so I might have to go glean their field - they leave so many to go to waste and they are delicious!
Side note: Any y'all ever pan for gold? I'm curious. Hubby likes to fish and I try to take stitching but it might be nice to "play" in the water a little also.

Get a 10 or 14" gold pan, green or black, either is good and I own both. They show gold well if you have any.

Or if you want a gold dredge Keen has some good ones. I own a small back packer dredge, haven't had it in the water in a few years.

Lots of places sell gold pans. You might find one close to you.

I found a good "starter set" at Cabella's for about $30. I haven't brought my self to push the checkout button yet, but I'm thinkin' I might. It's a Garrett??? Looks just like those but also has the classifier with it. I watched a couple YT videos so I can talk all smarty-like 😂 I went panning a few times when I was a kid but that's been a week or two - shhhh!
PS Thank you.

It's a nice way to spend the day, sitting in a creek, panning some gold. My last big trip I spent 49 days in the mountains. I didn't work a whole lot, still brought home some gold. Gave it away as christmas presents, little vials of gold.

Around here there is microscopic placer gold. I found it by accident. The county used big galvanized culverts, 8ft, 10ft in diameter. They replaced all the old wooden bridges on back roads.

The culvert has ripples, we all seen these type culverts. Well, the ripples act as natural gold traps. After spring rains I'd partially dam the lower end of a big culvert with sand bags. When the water was a couple feet deep I'd run the suction of my dredge and pull up all the trapped heavier sediments in the culvert, including a little gold.

I might only get $2 worth of gold but it was a great way to spend a summer afternoon.
