Went to work.
Came home.
Watched Top Gun on Paramount Plus. The old one. Can't wait for the new one. I didn't see it in theaters.
Got my mom to show me how to crochet. Used her N size needle because I'm having minor trouble holding my L size needle thanks to that mashed thumb.
Got my own N sized needle because I'm having problems gripping the yarn with hers.
Mine is the bamboo one.

I'm doing radio training at the minute- it's interesting yet at the same time I'm not totally enjoying it. I think it's the tutor, who is friendly and clear, but there's something I can't put my finger on.
Going to spend the afternoon in the poly, then daughter leaves for college.

Good morning, H&CL!

I had planned on taking my daughter to the Renaissance Faire in Des Moines, however it is absolutely pouring down rain, it's 54° and the forecast shows no signs of stopping so I think we'll pass on that. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice so perhaps we'll go then. For now, she and I are going to stay warm and dry and figure out something to do indoors. She needs some new shoes so we may hit the outlet mall. The outlet mall is next door to Bass Pro Shops and 5 minutes away from Fleet Farm...hmmmm😉 I think I see an opportunity here!

Tire is swapped out, no more recalled front tire, got a nice Dunlop D606 knobby on the front wheel instead... to match the big ol' burly Dunlop knobby already on the back wheel, lol.

Gonna let the bike cool down, then I'm gonna change the oil... I have some primo oil to put in this beast, the monster thumper from hell, lol. Going riding next week, so I want the bike to run like a top... :)

Sure felt good to twist a throttle again, it may only be a KLR 650 but the bike has some power, lol. Ain't no Hayabusa on the pavement, but I'm only riding on pavement to get to those trails up in the Sacramento Mountains...

P.S. This celebratory cold beer tastes mighty fine!!! Got plenty more in the fridge!!! ;)

Just took beer out of the freezer, heading for the pool float shortly!!

if you find one, I would like an invite :)
You want past, present, future, alternate universe or another planet entirely?
We'll grab Wingnut and a party pack of zig-zags and a couple of gallons of two fingers silver and a case of rolling rocks and do a bar crawl!

Know what would be funny? if we dropped out of thin air in the middle of congress back in the fifties with a burned up American flag during the commie trials screaming "Hoover was right! we're the last three Americans alive!" then point at Ted Kennedy and do the "bodysnatcher scream!"

Better yet. drop off a copy of the Zephruder film for JFK to enjoy and go snatch Marylin Monroe right before the hit man got there. and go grab Jane Mansfield before she got in that car and chill with Sharon Tate a bit and wait on Charlie with our "homeland defense" rifles.

It's Saturday and raining. I'm doing a "wake and bake" Wheeeeeeeeee!

I have not traveled through the alternate universes, so whatever you feel is good :)

We did an inventory of brewing supplies and gear. Then off to the supply store for fresh yeast for wine. Wife gave up 2 shelves in the counter kitchen for all of the brewing stuff.

Final total is 4.5 pounds of elderberries. Enough for about a gallon of wine. Maybe brew it later this week. Looking forward to it.

Granddaughters a coming for an overnight.

Take care

Ben

Magus, little Zorlac is coming along for the ride, here he is now saying, "Dude, where's the chronic? And a lighter? And water for the bong?"

IMG_8877.JPG

Note myriad hard water spots on glass bong, I normally use purified water but I rinse the thing with tap water, lol. Here are 'The Three Pendejos'---er, I mean 'The Three Amigos' looking for water in the kitchen sink! ;)

IMG_8878.JPG

And here's the new Dunlop D606 knobby tire on my front wheel, plus some shots of the bike after I changed the oil and messed around with the rubberized (waterproof) Sedici saddlebags... house brand for Cycle Gear, I guess, and pocket saddlebags to boot, but all I want is to carry extra clothes on one side and rig out the other side as a picnic lunch & beer cooler, lol. I'll probably line the bottom of one saddlebag with a towel, use some of those freezer packs to line the bottom and sides, put my beer & lunch in there, and top it off with more freezer packs and maybe some actual ice. I'm not done yet with mounting the saddlebags, I want that one strap to go under the seat cover, which I'll do tomorrow morning, it just got too hot and the bugs were going off, so I said to heck with it. I tried to find a seat latch for this bike, but maybe it's one of those bikes that doesn't have a seat latch... nothing about it in the manual, but I'll check again later and see if I can't find a seat latch. Old school bikes had seat latches so you could flip the seat up and store stuff underneath, but the guy who had the bike before me was shorter and he modified the seat to lower it even further, so who knows? Who cares? I'll ride it as is if necessary, the bike loved the oil change and it's ready to hit the trail, lol. Now I've showered up (again) and I'm drinking beer in the A/C, lol. Cheers!!!

Edit: For those familiar with the KLR 650, this one has been modified to lighten it up by 30 pounds or so, the work was done by the previous owner... you can see where he chopped the original fairing way down, leaving just enough to be useful, and swapped the original metal tank for this plastic desert thumper model. It looks funny, and possibly heavy, but it's actually super-light and it holds something like 6.6 gallons of fuel, lol. So I'm ready to ride some trails up there by Cloudcroft, I'll just top off the tank each time on my way home. One reason why I bought this big ol' tank for riding when I was originally looking for a 400-450cc bike, this one has the power to pull the steep grade to Cloudcroft, and it can still serve for trail riding, though it's heavier than I'd like at 400 pounds or so. Meh, ya can't sling it around like so much hash, the way you'd ride a 125cc or 250cc bike, but it's still fun as long as you watch the deep sand, ruts in the same direction you're traveling, and tricky trail sections where one has to stand on the pegs. As one friend likes to say, it is what it is, and the previous owner used to call it 'The Big Ugly'---LOL. o_O

A day of rest for the most part. Spent the afternoon going through the paperwork for my new chainsaw. Got the important serial numbers and part numbers written on front of the operators manual. Even wrote the important phone numbers and web address. Something I always do so I don’t have to go looking for numbers if I need a part or have a service question in the future.

The operators manual is very thorough, lots of detail but poorly written. I got the impression the manual was written by someone who’s first language isn’t english. So I took my time, took the saw apart and went through every detail.

It has a feature I really like. The choke on my old husqvarna was variable. If I had to use the choke to start the saw I had to be quick to turn off the choke else it’d kill the engine by flooding it when the engine did start.

The Stihl choke is only 2 position, cold engine start or warm engine start. If I start a warm engine the choke automatically turns off when I pull the throttle trigger.

It also has a cold weather or hot weather setting for the carb intake air. For cold weather I move the plate so the Carb pulls warm air from the cylinder housing. For hot weather the plate only allows fresh unheated air to feed the carb. Not sure how effective that'd be here in the deep south, don't do a lot of cold weather cutting.

I played guitar off and on all day, take a break from what ever and play a couple songs. I got most of the dishes done, my kitchen was a disaster…

And now it’s raining for the 3rd time since noon. Nope, not going out and run the new saw even though I’d like to… a soggy mess outside.

We've had a nice rain on and off today. It was so dry, it's been soaking in pretty quickly. Errands done this morning....our small hardware store for a pin for husband's mobility scooter wheel, off to my favorite cousin's house for a short visit, a milk pickup, and dropping off dehydrated elderberries for her daughter. The bake sale for the amish school was in full swing, and I bought too much, but put most of it in the freezer...wheat bread, a blueberry pie, pull apart cinnamon bread, and a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Put some more raw milk in the freezer, too, as our son will be visiting this coming week and he goes through it very fast. Neighbor lady dropped off amish church cookies and peanut butter cookies, and picked up 7 kitties. They are cute, but we still have 4 of their older siblings, and mama cat went on a very long vacation. Canned 7 quarts of half pears, loaded sliced pears in the freeze dryer, chopped tomatoes and chopped green onion in the dehydrators.

Biggest bordello in space, here we come! no pun intended!

I like Saki in my bong. drink it later. wo0o0o0-eeee!

We drug in a parts jeep today, got a great hard top and doors, a good cage and a Chevy conversion. The kid started taking it a part and I taught him to use a smoke wrench. He will make quick work of this one now! 😆

I was gonna ask if that was the original tank? Buddy of mine and his dad had KLR's, great bikes for what they do. Makin them lighter will sure help with handling all the power they make. Bike looks good

Every other thought left my brain when I saw Wingnut say the three pendejos! LOL! I remember my father (who was fluent in Spanish) telling me the literal translation was "little pubic hair".

Anyway, I spent a few hours sweeping, vacuuming, flattening my sheet vinyl floor, perimeter taping, trimming, more sweeping & vacuuming, mopping, etc. Still need to thoroughly scrub that floor but its in now and my body hates me. I do feel like a wuss compared to other people who have worse health issues but as someone on a previous page said that everyone has different limits.

I think I'm going to try to rest tonight and tomorrow.

Market went better than expected , it rained the entire time but our loyal customers ( and others ) came out anyway. We did have bread left over for the first time this year and most of the vendors traded stuff amongst themselves at the end. I ended up with cookies, candies, popcorn, candles, lettuce and peppers

Not raining right now but supposed to rain more until Tuesday. YUCK. Supposed to pick up a new billy from a farmer to get some new blood in the herd tomorrow but going to try and hold off until Tuesday

House needs cleaning but no point in this weather

I need to process a ton of apples

Ooh, liver and egg sounds good.

Bladder woke me up this morning. Got up & kitties and dogs were happy. Put water out for Fippy & refilled the Brita filter. Fed kitties. Now I'm checking forums and relaxing. If my body cooperates I will try to clean the floor more in the afternoon. Then I have to look for some tools for Monday if my friend is able to come out. Need to find my sharkbite removal tool, pex cutters, and toilet jack. But for now I'm letting my body rest.

Slow Sunday morning here, I'm takin' it easy and sippin' herbal tea... it's overcast outside, so I can water a bit later this morning. Might have rain in the forecast, but I'm probably gonna water anyway, unless it's raining when I step outside. I'm feeling a bit tired today, as I've done a lot around here lately, so I'm just gonna relax... yesterday, I managed to pull another bag full o' goathead vines in between other tasks, so a break won't hurt my goathead campaign. I'm thinking movies and/or Western novels in my near future... works for me! After a full 60 years on this planet, many of those years full of activity (whether it was work or recreation), I've learned that it's okay to take a break now and then, ya know? So that's what I'll be doing today, lol.

Its 4pm and I haven't gone above 1st gear. :D OH got back late, so it's been a lazy day; raining too hard to do outside work. Had to drop our daughter's friend off to the bus and get milk, so decided to give ourselves a rare treat and go for breakfast after feeding the animals. Now mooching about the house and enjoying the banter here-the 'bootie' thread was highly entertaining!
Now just getting mildly organised for the week ahead.

Told the twins yesterday that they had to clean out the chicken coops down to the concrete today. Then they said they were planning on going to drug addict church and to the fair. Was surprised to see them up at 7 am to clean the coops and half expected them to not do it at all. So last week, they left at 8am for church. Today was 10am. I wonder if church is code for something else. Got the animals done, rabbit cages all cleaned out, and the weather is really nice right now, so I am heading out to the garden. Might be too late to plant my extra dz squash plants that I started in the greenhouse, but what the heck, I'll do that anyway, and hope the squash bugs have had enough. Dinner tonight at my favorite cousins.

Started cooking 3# of Great Northern Beans with ham this morning, then Church.
Got home and ran to local grocery.
Walked dogs.
Picked okra and no figs. Season is about over except for assorted peppers, eggplants and cucumbers.
I think I'll take a break the rest of today.

Piano for church today. Altered sleeves on suit jacket for grandson to wear at his wedding. It was his grandfather’s suit but his monkey arms needed more. Most I could give him was 1.5 inches. Prepared music for next Sunday. Husband staying at camp house. Guy that works for neighbor has randomly shown up on husbands land when not scheduled to mow. Neighbor leasing said pasture and paying guy to mow it. Not have sticky fingers. Need to feed animals and brown hamburger meat. Had 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren over yesterday with grandsons fiancé. So much fun. Back to work tomorrow, get hunting license and take that dress coat to cleaners
