The Princess and I teamed up on our batch of Elderberry wine on Saturday. I managed to screw it up at the last step (guessing). The yeast starter was bubbling good when I added it to the wine and I put the lid on the bucket and installed the air lock. BUT there was still some of the sanitation fluid in the air lock when got into the wire.

When I brewed beer it started bubbling right away. But no bubbles all evening. Still no bubbling the next day. Opened the bucket no foam or bubbles. Looks like I killed the yeast. Bummer. Now I have 2.5 gallons of overly sweet elderberry juice flavored with a hint of yeast I will be drinking for a while.

Live and learn.

We took the eldest granddaughter to get her setup with an electric guitar amp etc. Learned a new slang term on the way home.

Slay - Something is cool great, groovy...

Later the youngest granddaughter joined us for Sunday dinner and showed off new violin. With taking up the violin and the other guitar I had to offer them a goal to work toward.

Grampa would enjoy it.

Today I was expecting delivery of the new side by side but the owner of the place it out with health issue. His partner is now scrambling single handed. Getting them to pick up the old quad is a complication. So asked a neighbor that is always playing motorcycles and such if he was interested in it. He offered me $100 for it and I accepted it and handed him the key.

Then I took over a project the wife had started but was not happy with the results. The handles on her practice hooked swords were badly worn. I used some assorted leather I had to build up and wrap the handles.

Nothing fancy but they better than the original and only cost me some contact adhesive and some time. Ready for her next Kung Fu lesson tomorrow night.

Tomorrow I may be installing 2 outside cameras for the Simplisafe alarm system I installed last week... but don't count on it.

We got all of our firewood stacked in the woodshed and about 2 cords stacked outside. Got another cord stacked up by the fur shed. I've got a half cord of apple wood stacked up behind the smoke house and I'm cutting some choke cherry wood for the smoker too.
Its still dry and dusty here, but we've been getting cool nights with the daytime highs are around 70 degs. Still no rain in sight. Killed another rattlesnake a couple days ago by the wood shed and the yellow jackets are really bad this year, and aggressive.

Chicken of the woods is a fungus, so I'm thinking the bullet is too but not sure.

Started trying to pull my husband's clothes out of the closet today, and sort through a couple of boxes he had stuffed in there. Not a good day. But it's raining so I can't just go out on my motorcycle and avoid it for another day.
When my mother passed, she had left each of us a box with our name on it. Took me a long time to go through it. When we moved 5 years ago, someone stole the whole box. Don't know why anyone would have wanted her Bible.

...and the yellow jackets are really bad this year, and aggressive.

Amen on that! I got nailed twice on the same day. 8/9 stings total. I didn't find the nest the first time. I've seen almost no red wasps this year... but yellow jackets and hornets are everywhere.
---------------------------------

Not much accomplished today... catching up on badly needed rest. Feeling better though, felt like eating again, 2 days straight now. Lost 14lbs over the last 3 weeks, was already 20lbs under weight. CFS, what am I gonna do? Just one of the many symptoms.

I did get the kitchen cleaned up and finished this weeks laundry. Why is it??? I never seem to remember to clean out the fridge until after the garbage truck runs on Monday??? Now the trash bin will stink until next week.

Morning chores and checking on guinea hen who is still diligently sitting in the tall grass on the manure pile. She's got a couple of weeks to go, I think. Finally got to work on a greenhouse side. Used a driver drill and an electric saw for the first time. Drill head wasn't right and the bit kept falling out, so that was a pain. And the noise and the vibration. Hand tools are so much nicer, but it'd take forever, so I'll stop the moaning. So I'll get back at it tomorrow after morning chores.

Glad you are feeling better!♥️

Sad news - the insurance company called and told me that the damage to my SUV was worse than originally thought. The frame is bent to the right in front of the radiator, where the bumper attaches, and it's too much to straighten. So, it's totalled. I was hoping to fix it or buy it back, but if I buy it back they won't give me enough to be sure I can get it fixed. They'll give me $4000 more to total it.

So, my daughter and I went over to the body shop and cleaned it out. When we were done, I patted the hood and said goodbye. My daughter started crying. She still feels guilty about the accident. She also knows that she's going to get a "Dad Tax" levied on her soon, to help pay for the increase in my insurance bill that's coming in January. I don't think she quite understands what paying a monthly bill is like, but reality is about to fall on her from a great height.

Now it's time to go hunting for a vehicle. I've already found one suitable car, a 2015 Toyota Camry with 82,000 miles. I only hope that it looks as good in person as it does on the website. The dealer wants $13,000 and in the current market it's a fantastic deal, and the insurance check will pay most of it. I hope it's still there when I get the money in my hands...

I'm feeling better this morning. Still takes a little longer to stand up, but over all, better.
Will walk first.
Walk dogs.
Peeled and chopped cukes, onions and bell peppers yesterday to make mustard relish today.
Inventory dried beans, now that it is a little cooler.
Clean up bread maker I got at a yard sale Saturday. It works just needs cleaning.
That should keep me busy and active for the day!

Gonna water the trees & plants, then fill the trash bin with more weeds from the piles out front... I have two piles outside the perimeter fence which should just about fill the bin. Might tackle that flagstone this morning, depends upon how I feel after I finish my herbal tea. I really need to start doing more home rehab work, now that fall has arrived.

It is with heavy heart and deep sadness.
My Dad has passed peacefully.
My Dad was well loved.
He was known by many titles, but some of his favorites was:
Dad by his four children, Grandad by his nine grandchildren, and "Sugar" by at least one great grand daughter,Grandpa, and Grandad by his other twelve great grandchildren.
He will be missed.
I have moved back into my own apartment this week.
I want to Thank Patchouli for reaching out to me.
It was appreciated.
I will be reading and catching up on the forums in the coming days.

Glad you're okay and back home. @MoBookworm1957

No plans for today. The plan had been to spend the next 2 days nailing down everything on the farm I wouldn't want to lose in a hurricane. Now that the storm is going to miss me...

I need to scout some plants. Not many hunting days left this season. There's a new place I found last May I want to see again, see how the medicines there did this summer.

@MoBookworm1957 so sorry for your loss. Glad he went peacefully. Please reach out if you need to talk.

Plans for today are work til 3 then book it home to get 3 of the dogs loaded to go to the vet, then back home to do chores and start on the mountain of class lectures and assignments that all need to be done by Thursday night.

Sat. was Hubby and I's 11th anniversary so we went up to a little mountain town not too terribly far away. We were going to go hunting/camping, but his back had been out all week so didn't think sitting for 8 hrs in a rig was a good idea. He got to fish for a while, I stitched and read. Ate out both for lunch and supper - wahoo! No cooking. It was a nice day. Sunday was back to the grindstone. Skipped church and got some things taken care of. Hubby modified a little chief smoker (cut it in half-ish) so it is now a cold smoker - totally redneck but works 😁 Did 2 slabs of bacon which we will be trying before long - because we are both anxious to know how it tastes. He salted it then smoked it.
I've still been dealing with onions. Tonight we will run another batch of salsa. That should be it for the salsa production so I will be able to move on. Within the next day or two, I will have another batch of green beans to process. Trying to get things wrapped up for autumn/winter.
Yesterday and today, I've gotten a ton done at work so am feeling a little bit better about being caught up. I can actually see part of my desk 😂

😢 sorry to hear it, Mo...

Did more yard work than I planned, but I'm ready to burn off some weed piles tomorrow morning... hopefully the calm forecast remains in place, no winds to cause any fire danger. I filled the trash bin again, but that takes care of all the weed piles outside the perimeter fence, now I just have five large piles of weeds in the yard, lol. Hopefully the weeds are dry enough to burn easily, I'll use some dry pine needles & cones to help 'em get started. I won't burn the pulled tree stumps tomorrow, I wanna save those for campfires this fall... each stump will burn for a couple hours, easy, so I'll save 'em for chilly fall nights and put 'em to good use. I may be able to burn some lopped branches tomorrow, I have a bunch of those which I wanna get rid of pronto, they've been sitting around in piles all summer.

Taking it easy for the rest of the day, I already cleaned up and had a big ol' steak, egg & cheese burrito with onions & hot peppers... the peppers were picked from a bush in my yard, they're nice and hot. Only downside is that I'm now too full to drink beer, lol. Meh, I can take a break for a while, maybe have a cold one later this afternoon or evening. ;)
