Didn't get as much done yesterday as I had hoped. I got lazy. Oh well, today is another day and day that I don't have to go to work.. :)

It's warm here today. 7 o'clock in the morning and it's 67 degrees. It's been warm like this all week. Longest Indian Summer I can remember.
Enjoy your days off and warm weather!♥️

Busy work day today! Two cleaning jobs, one senior apartment, one small house. Also have several stops to put faucet covers on for some of my seniors who thought their kids would take care of that before last night's freeze! One lady in particular always has a lot of extras for me to do, both of her kids live less than a mile from her. They are good to come visit and spend time with her, but they know I'll do the dirty work!!

Will walk when rain stops. It's as warm as it's going to get today. 53 for a high.
Have a chicken cooking in crockpot to broil in oven for a few minutes for rotisserie chicken.
Will cook some turnip and mustard greens that I got yesterday. They are huge.
Hopefully, going to discount store in Louisiana a little later.
No homesteading chores today, just regular ones.

Just completely bored. Wife is doing a craft show. My sons are both sleep, as are the dog and cat.
She just called me, someone bought both of the rocking chairs I made. If I can find some wood, I need to get busy. She got $110 for the pair, I had only expected $100.

Been on the phone & computer all morning, what happened to the website earlier? It went kaput? Doesn't matter now, but I reckon the bike won't get cleaned today after all... gotta go water the trees & plants, then set up that phone and get the hard cider started. The cider is a priority mission, lol. Otherwise, I'm gonna hang around the ol' hacienda today, the weather is nice (though a tad cooler) and life is good! Quality time with the cats & kittens this afternoon... already had quality time with 'em this morning, but one can never have too much quality time with the blasted varmints! Lol. Cheers!

Wind chill is in the teens here. Too cold even in the shop for these old bones.

I think, hope and pray I have won the war with the rebel chickens because I was starting to take that crap personal.
They weren't out this morning and I did a little war dance.....the crackheads next door aren't up since they sleep their excesses off until midday so they didn't get to see it.
It's not so much that the chickens would get in the garden, which is bad enough.
They get under the bottom electric wire of the dog pen and poop.
Nothing like cheating death first thing in the morning to put a little zing in your step.
Landshark is a poultry poop eating dog and she's allergic to it.
If it's in her pen she'lll eat it and then BOOM instant ear infections.
Plus if she's out in her pen and the rebel chickens are out and they stick so much as a beak
past the wire they're dead.
Landshark has the same attitude towards butterflies as well.
Any butterfly in the yard and she's ready and baying for war until it leaves and the property is secure from all butterfly intrusions and attacks.

Go get em Landshark. All the chickens and butterflies. Maybe she can get your crackheads, too.
Am taking a load off. Glad I started dinner in the crockpot this morning, made white bean chicken chili. Just have to do some biscuits and make a salad. Spent most of the day on animal chores. Cleaned out the baby areas in the two chicken coops. Then got the 13 junior chickens out of the milkhouse and into the young chicken baby areas. Seven in one coop, 6 in the other. The ones that got bigger and were booted out are looking longinly to be back in. Funny. Got plastic sheeting put up over the chicken wire windows in the goose house. That'll keep them warmer. The water hose finally thawed out enough this afternoon so I could fill up the 6 goose pools, so they had their pool party. It's 39 out right now, and nice. Better than the teens this morning, and I was lugging out 18 gallons of hot water from the kitchen via wagon to water animals. Winter always has its own issues. Then I brought in a twin mattress, box spring, and frame from the big storage to the house. Didn't get it set up yet, but tomorrow I will. Company from New Mexico, the friends that come by alot, are coming in for a few days. I'll just be leaving this one upstairs, I'm tired of playing musical beds when we have company. I had the foldup bed upstairs next to a twin, but sis needed it at mom's place when she stayed there, so it's going to stay there. Grandson announced his stomach was sick, and went upstairs, and haven't seen him since. Granddaughter went to work (ha ha maybe) early this morning. Got all the chicken brooders scrubbed out and put away for the season, all 6 of them.

Made some phone calls and appointments this morning. The little Corolla I bought for my kid to drive has a suspension problem of some kind. It drives straght, tight, and true, but it's making a clunky noise over bumps. I'm guessing there's a bushing or two going bad in the front end.

This afternoon I visited my mom at the nursing home. Sadly my kid had to work and couldn't go, but mom appreciated the company.

My daughter is now telling me how her first ever 8 hour shift went. I'm slightly amused, but I'm proud of her. I think we'll watch a movie tonight...

Winter has arrived looks like, yuck

Went to farm club meeting yesterday, not very many people there compared to pre-covid
( but more members )
cleaned barn while sheep were out ( rest got rotated around the barn until it was clean, we have 4 areas) then put everyone back in since it was raining and windy.
Now it is windy and supposed to be below freezing all day. So everyone will go out for a little while since it is not raining while we clean, and then we put them back in. Such a huge temp change is not good for the animals. We went from 70 degrees to below freezing in just a few days
Baking bread today, made dough yesterday
I keep putting off cleaning the house because we have another rain day coming.
Sometimes I really hate the weather

forgot: we stopped by the walmart to get bananas on the way yesterday and they had turkeys on sale for .89 a pound , I got 2 , they will probably not last long

This weather drives me nuts, too. It's 24 out right now, so frozen everything this morning. I did put a wool sock around each of the rabbit cage's water bottles, so hoping those are not frozen. I did remember to put the extra metal fowl waterers in the milkhouse, so I can just switch some out. And the wagon is on the porch filled with 20 empty milk jugs that I can fill with hot water from the kitchen. Looks like geese will have to wait for their pool party till late afternoon. Need to get the spare room cleaned and set up. There's still a twin bed sitting here in the dining room from bringing it in yesterday. First animals, then off to church

Quiet Sunday morning, just the way I like it... slow day today, skies are mostly cloudy with a bit of sunshine here and there, good day to putter around indoors. Town run later to find a plastic tray for my cider... I also need celery, onion, baby carrots and whatever else for the homemade turkey soup I'll soon make. :)

Making and vacuum packing fixings for 24 apple pies. I love winter. I don't have room in the freezers at the moment, so I can just put them in coolers next to the freezers. The freezers are in an unheated shed. I don't even need to plug in the freezers.

After the pies are finished, it's making and canning apple sauce. Any apples that are left will be dehydrated.

I used to have 7 mature apple trees. I sure miss them.

Got cool enough inside that Mom turned the heat back on. I woke up to a burning smell like crumbs in a toaster burning. It went away after awhile and I turned the temp down so it wouldn't get too hot. Its still cool in my room so kitties are piled on. Trying to motivate myself to get up and move. At least I got mail yesterday and put gas in the car. If I can peel the cats off I'll get some breakfast. I already fed the kitties.

I slept in way past normal time. I don't know what was wrong with me, but I suddenly woke up at 11am! I had wanted to be up at 8 and go to church. I guess that didn't happen...

My kid is working another training shift at McDonalds today. She gets off at 4. I'm going to show her how to put her license plates on this afternoon - she's had them for 2 weeks and didn't put them on yet. The dealer plates don't expire for another 2 weeks but still...she won't do it if I don't make her do it, I guess.

Not sure what to do after that. Maybe I'll take her shopping. She needs practice driving in towns and cities and the nearest larger town is 25 miles away. It's around 90,000 people, much larger than she's used to. She's enrolled in those community college level classes in that town, but it's on the very edge of the city and she never has to go more than 4 blocks off the interstate to get to class. I figure, having her drive to Walmart and Target and the mall on a Sunday when the traffic is light, will be good practice...

It's always stressful for new drivers and for people riding with them. I had trouble with my mom shrieking and screaming at me over nothing. My sister was riding with us one day and shouted back at my mother to shut up because she was making it worse and giving me unreasonable instructions (like "turn here") when there literally was no place to turn & shrieking like a banshee. If she had talked to me calmly instead of panicking it wouldn't have been so stressful. To this day she still sometimes shrieks at me. Like yelling at me to "go" when the light is red or a car is stopped in front of me. Or yelling that I need to change lanes "now" when my indicator is on and cars are next to me & I can't get over. But having her shriek is better than being in the car with her driving.

My friend is heading over soon to try to replace that broken outlet. Just waiting for him to reply back. I did some cleaning to make it easier for him.

Today was a range day, it was cool and breezy all day. I think it got up to 45F but you can feel winter closing in. This afternoon I planted the last of my onion sets. DW is not feeling good, having hot spells, the temperature in the house is 70F and she is complaining about it being hot. Then the breeze from the window hits her and she's freezing. It's hard to know what to do....

The greenhouse is working well and it is exciting. Today, I closed the lids on my raised beds (I planted them yesterday) so things are moving along.

Church this morning. Second service got a little holy rollie for me, but it's hard to get the animals done in this weather and husband readied for first service where us old mennonites feel more at ease. Even little granddaughter said something. Ha.
It warmed up to mid 40's so geese got their clean water in their pools and a pool party. Cooked a turkey, did two loads of laundry, hauled a twin bed upstairs and got it set up and ready to go for company later in the week.

Spent today getting ready for my trip tomorrow. Going to TN to have Mr. Starkey work on my guitar. Funny, by accident I found the word document containing a map and directions to his house left over from my last trip to see him. So, printed out another copy for tomorrow.

Lots of outside work finished, refilling feed bins and water troughs. All dad has to do is feed the critters, nothing else. Got a bag packed, laptop updated, might check in here if my hotel has good wifi. Still have to clean my travel weapons here in a bit.

I’m getting up extra early allowing for more time to get the car loaded. Should have a leisurely drive up. Hopefully drop off my guitar before noon.

I checked websites for shows tomorrow night. There’s a guy playing at the old Ryman Auditorium at 7:30pm. His music is interesting but the cheapest ticket is $43. There there’s a western swing band at another place, $20 tickets. The bluebird cafe has bands all afternoon and evening, none sounded appealing. Even Nashville is slow on monday nights.

I have to wait and see what mr starkey has to say. If he’ll have my guitar ready Tuesday there will be no shows. I’ll be up early and headed home as soon as I can. Cheapest hotel I found was $94 a night and it was 2 star but next to a big travel/truck stop by the interstate… which means lot lizards, their friends and drugs. Not a nice place, even the photos weren’t appealing. I'm not staying there 2 nights but took a chance my guitar work will finish quickly and I won't have to.
