GOOD-BYE LANDSHARK.

With tears in my eyes I had to say good bye to my destrocto dog.
As I'm getting weaker she is growing stronger and more stubborn and I simply didn't have the strength to control her anymore.
I couldn't take her for walks on the leash because she would pull me over.
I couldn't play with her in the yard with the tug toy because she would get the Rhino zoomies and plough right over the top of me with not even a hint of slowing down or swerving.
She would knock me down in the house jumping up and then wouldn't let me stand up and she's pee all over me and rip intoto my legs and chest with her nails.
She was allergic to everything.
Grain, starchy vegetables, indian mallow, nearly all types of grasses, mosquitos, fleas and spent most of her time miserable shaking her head with allergy ear infections or chewing her paws.
She destroyed household items and fittings.

Despite all that I LOVED her and I felt very, very safe with her here.

She has gone to live with the lovely midwife who looked after her for the three weeks I was getting palliative radiation.
The plan has always been that Landshark was going to go to the Midwife in the event God called me home.
It's the main reason why I got Landshark desexed so it would make life easier for the Midwife and it would be one less expense she would have to pay to take her on.
Landshark has two young male collie x kelpie dogs to play with and they'll keep her active and worn out.
She'll get tired before they do.
The Midwife takes on all the pitbull rescues for the local animal rescue and she is very good with handling the needs of the breed so Landshrk and her needs and habits will be catered to by someone who extremely experienced.

I am heart broken even though I know it's for the best.

Live your best life Landshark.

@Spikedriver I am also Scottish. my grandfather immigrated from there to Canada. What clan do you belong to? Part of the reason we are going is a family history trip. I am still trying to dig into family history to find some other places of family significance to go to.
My brother has traced our name back to the MacFarlane clan, but the farther I go back the more I'm convinced that is not us. Still working on that piece.

I'm not a Scot, but my Norse ancestors on my father's side go back to the Mowats of Bucholly. The ancestry is unclear after one Andrew Mowatt who immigrated to Norway in the late 1500s. He held land in both Shetland and Norway. I am descended from his grandson, Anders Axelsson Helvik (Mowatt), the illegitimate son of Axel Andersson Mowatt of Kvinnherad, Norway.

The Mowatt clan of Caithness and Orkney apparently had strong ties to Norway since the late Viking age, as did most of the clans of far north Scotland. Scots heritage is fascinating, if the record keeping of the families is clear. Things are often a bit murky in the 1400s and 1500s. But there's a possibility that the Mowatts trace back to the time of William the Conqueror. I'm just not sure who my particular family line is descended from past the 1500s

Sometimes doing the right thing isn't easy. You gave it your all, and you gave her up for all the right reasons. I am sure no one here has any doubts about that.

You found a place for her that knows all her faults and took her anyway. You did right by Land Shark and yourself. Don't forget that in your grief.

What you just did was very hard and also very right. It was not healthy, for either of you, to carry on the way it’s been going. Sounds like she will be getting what she needs at the midwife’s—plenty of activity with other dogs and discipline. You’ll be able focus on your health and we’ll being. There will be another companion dog for you when it’s time. God will bring you a pooch that will fit in with your path.

I appreciate you saying that.
I really do.
Landshark, when the midwife first took her when the paramedics saved my life and now..the plan was that Landshark was going to be the Midwife's personal dog along with the the two collie x's. NOT a rescue.
Landshark will not be put up for adoption with the rescue org that the Midwife fosters for.
That helps me in my grief that the home she is going to is one of the very best and it's one I chose.

She is where she needs to be!! I cried reading this, but this dear woman knows her, kept her, and Landshark needs her! It doesn't mean you don't love the crazy thing!! She will have a good, quality life!! YOU DID THE RIGHT THING!! Better focus for you to beat this cancer, and Landshark has other dogs and someone who can handle her that she knows, and lived with!! Great call TG!!♥️

@sonya123 The goats we had never tried to trample us over food but I know they can be a handful. The worst part with the cow is not just her size, but her horns. She does not have situational awareness of her horns so I have to dodge them. She's caught me in the ribs and side a few times while trying to cuddle. I really need to get them some hay but don't have a trailer to haul it so I have to ask the guy who bought our tractor to get some for us (after I give him the $ for it). I lost the contact info for the guy who delivered 10 bales a couple years back.

@Tank-Girl, I'm so sorry you had to rehome Landshark. I know how attached you are to her. Rehoming is never easy. Hopefully with other dogs to play with she'll be better behaved and maybe you can visit her from time to time. The midwife who rescues dogs and is taking her sounds like a wonderful person. You did the right thing for yourself and for Landshark. You need to be safe and she needs to be with someone who can handle her. She's still alive and hopefully will be happy. If you ever get another dog, it will have to be a smaller one that you can manage more easily. You need to focus your energy on getting well though. Sending you virtual hugs.

I got RXs from Walmart and an oil change for the CR-V. Brother and I stopped by to see our friend afterward. His gf had taken his 2nd vehicle (meant for emergencies) without asking or saying anything to him and left him alone with the toddler. She's probably off with the last guy she cheated on him with. We were trying to cheer him up. I helped him put up some framing around the barn door between the living room and kitchen. His mother dropped by so I let her know about the situation where he told the gf to get out and she refused & that he said a formal court eviction would be necessary. She gleefully said she would file to evict since she technically owns the house. I told her we would pay the court fees for it. So she let him know she wants to file the paperwork. She said she was ready to drag the gf out by her hair at that point.

Got home to cook for mom and then discovered the cats unplugged my computer somehow. Took me a few minutes to figure out why it wouldn't turn on.

Aminatu thought she wanted out when I opened the door but she set foot outside and ran straight back in. LOL. I'm about to take a nap in a few minutes.

Got out for a drive up the Missouri river for some lunch and found some more really interesting rock formations/flash fossilized beasts for my wife's next book. So we are standing in the snow with the temp a balmy 24F looking up at some cliffs and doing some stills and movies......this being montana people slow down to check on us old folks or to see if we have big foot spotted.

We should create a thread just for this but one of the places I'm visiting is Rowallan castle, home to Elizabeth Mure (who I am descended from) - she was a wife of Robert the Bruce. I have some viking ancestry as well, it's been a lot of fun to follow. Clan info is murky for us, there are quite a few, I'm hoping to narrow it down while I'm there.

Landshark had obedience and a firm hand when she was a pup and continued to have a firm hand applied BUT, and I am sure you will know EXACTLY what I'm saying here, she had the type of temperament that had to constantly try you.
With some dogs, horses and heck, even people the discipline sticks.
With her..nope.
In every instance looking for a way around.
We can blame a lot of it on ditzy brainless puppy antics but underneath it was that willfulness that
just doesn't like toeing the line.

Yes, I did the right thing and the Midwife's husband is a huge Maori gentleman who's built like a double door refrigerator
who'll be able to take her for walks and be able to reinforce the "heel" command without getting towed.

Landshark isn't the sort of animal for a extremely weak, frail person who's having trouble walking.

Sorry, Tank. I bet that was a hard thing to do.
Hey Spike, husband has that thing in his arm, too, and those lovely alarms go off at night sometimes, and he doesn't hear them so I usually wake him up to tell him to check his numbers. We have a minifridge in our bedroom with OJ in it. And he likes the cherry slice or orange slice candy, too. It's a pain in the butt when numbers go too high, then go to low, then waiting for a correction.
Have company, and they just went to bed, and I'm ready for bed, too. Didn't do much today. They slept in till 10, and I had all the animal chores done by then, so I came in and made a big late breakfast. Sat around and talked, and did a walk around the farm when it got warmer this afternoon. Tomorrow's plan is to go to brunch (I'll do the school run and animals first), and then they want to go to the underground salt mines.

I hardly ever wake up to the glucose monitor alarm. Shoot, I can sleep through a lightning strike. (No joke - I've done it twice.) The CGM is an amazing tool though, and I don't ever want to be without it. I do like to take a little break from it once in a while though. It feels kind of nice, even for just a few hours, to not have anything stuck on your body, inserted under your skin...

@DrJenner a lot of my ancestry is also Scottish...Aberdeen from what I've uncovered so far. You should start a genealogy thread/subgroup. Or not, I mean there are genealogy forums out there too.

@Tank-Girl just the way it was supposed to be. You mentioned Landshark's new buddies being part kelpie. Ours is part kelpie, they are good dogs! I know it wasn't easy.
:huggs:
edit to add: felt not good today. Didn't do much of anything.

Well, I finally got into the garage and rearranged stuff to make room for my truck. I slowly worked on that project for about 4 hours while watching The Macahans made for TV movie and then the start of How The West Was Won TV series. I was watching more than I was working. Finally got the truck inside and made a minor toe adjustment on the front end hoping it will help reduce the occasional "death wobble" I have been getting the last month or so. Tomorrow I will try to replace the front shocks (which also might help that problem) and the headlight bulbs. The passenger side high beam went out a few months ago so it will be nice to have bright lights again for my drive home from work at night. Buying new front end parts is on the to do list but they are pricey. I need to make sure I get property taxes paid first and then the monthly bills. If I have enough left over I will buy the new parts.
Kept the wood stove going all day to chase the chill out of the house. Usually the upstairs is pretty warm but the boys said it was pretty cold up there last night. Seeing how it was 17* outside this morning just before sun up I guess that makes sense. The house is much warmer tonight so that shouldn't be a problem.
A guy in the neighborhood wants me to do some work for him, computer stuff, making a flyer with specific information. I suppose I should start on that here in a bit.
I was able to catch up on sleep again this weekend, so that is always a good thing. Aside from that, tonights dinner was a well seasoned hamburger, mixed the stuff into the burger and fried it up on the stove. Yummy stuff.

Tank Girl: sorry you had to give away Landshark, but you did the right thing. I have had a few dogs over the years that could not be trained, one was a pitbull mix rescue.

Dr Jenner, have fun in Scotland! We went on a trip there once ( we are not Scottish, just wanted to go there) and it was awesome. Where exactly are you going? We went to Edinburgh and then the Highlands. We rented a house next to the Harry Potter bridge near Fort William :)

It is 13 degrees outside and husband is still stick. And now I am coughing but not sick. I did the hay yesterday and didn't wear a face mask, stupid...

MY puppy is causing problems also. He keeps chewing up whatever new bedding I put in his crate at night. Does he ever sleep? He gets plenty of exercise. My previous GSD did the same thing as a puppy but we lived in Florida and she didn't need bedding so she didn't get any until she was about a year old and stopped doing that. Here it gets very cold in the house at night once the stove goes out. I am thinking of doing what I do for sick or rejected lambs or goat kids that live in the house for a few weeks, put straw in it. But that makes such a mess....
I need to go to the pet store and buy some toy to keep him occupied if he gets bored at night. I had one that worked great. It was a ball you put treats in , and they have to work really hard to get on at a time out. I wonder if they still make those

I hope husband gets better soon, I am tired from doing all the chores like haul in wood. Son does help with the livestock but I do more than usual.

Dogs are so smart! She loves you and knows you are in a weekened state right now. They know what they can get away with and with whom!!😉 Bear and my Hubby are a good example. Bear knows I am the Alpha in our pack, He knows better than to push my buttons. But he is always testing Hubby!!

Work work work!! I have a nice couple I clean for on Mondays!! Took Bear out for his 4am pee (fenced in backyard), there were two bucks having a loud brawl about 30' away totally ignoring us! Bear was amazed and quietly watched them. They may have had their antlers locked, but they finally broke apart and the chase was on!! Later I'll be stacking some firewood hubby split yesterday. Maybe squeeze one of those 10 minute naps in too!!

Yes, @sonya123 those toys that hold the treats inside are still made, several sizes, Kong I think it’s called. Sorry he’s being a puppy!
Scotland, have wanted to go to the Outer Hebrides but apparently the language on the outer and northern areas is a bit tricky.
Edit to add, hope you don’t get any worse feeling and hubby gets better soon. I’m feeling a little better today. We’ll see as I’m about to head into work.

Have a great time in Scotland @DrJenner ! I would love to go there also.

She has gone to live with the lovely midwife who looked after her for the three weeks I was getting palliative radiation.
I'm so glad that you had someone you trust to give Landshark to! That has to give you some peace of mind! A calmer atmosphere should help your treatments. At least that sounds right to me.

Yesterday, set up my vitamins for the month.
Went to Thanksgiving dinner after Church and helped clean up.
Walked dogs.
Watched TV with DH.

Today, we are going to pawn shop for a Christmas present for us. Maybe a 12.
Go to Walmart for a few things and check how well stocked they are.
Come home and walk.
That may be about it!

Can't water till this afternoon, gotta let the frozen hoses thaw out... already fed the cats, gotta feed the wild birds soon. Might start prepping for that bathroom painting job, I'd like to get that done but I'm kinda hoping for slightly warmer weather... 'The Supe' was right, this December weather in November sucks, we shouldn't be seeing these cold temps for at least another month! Oh, well, the worst that happens is that I push the 'deadline' for the painting job out to St. Patrick's Day, lol... it'll get done sooner or later! ;)

Oh fun! We fly into Glasgow, stay there 2 days, head out to the highlands (Kilmartin), then up to Fort William and then down to Edinburgh. Staying 8 nights, wish we had more time.

Cleaning the house for the holidays. We are going to my folks for Thanksgiving. I just want to be ready in case they decide to come here for Christmas.

I just have to run out tomorrow for carrots and fresh green beans if I can find them. Canned are fine if not. Everything else is from the pantry or freezer. If I can get a turkey for cheap on Friday I will to replace the one we will eat this year.

I have been looking for a good shepherd or mixed puppy to train as a family protecter/LSG. I about smacked myself because I know the training will take a while and we are moving next November. I will not have the time for the training! I think we should settle on a good ratter/"yappy" pup until after the move. I think a third set of ears and bark will work well since Winter and Summer are getting old and not as attentive as they once were. Now they are more concerned with the cat that lives around the corner coming into our yard than the UPS guy dropping off packages or the solicitor knocking on the door. I found a cute doxie mix pup at the shelter who will be available after Thanksgiving so I will be chatting with K about this later tonight. Seeing as how they don't get bigger than the girls he shouldn't mind my change of heart. BUT if Win or Summie 'go' before the move I will get my BIG dog pup at that time.

I have a lot more junk to get rid of before the move and I don't want to wait until the spring to start but I don't want to add to the mess in the house until after the holidays. I am getting antsy.

Olivia reported they played math bingo and she won a few rounds. Even earned some bonus points that will help her grade. I was happy to see her pleased to flex her math muscle.

Today I was back in the yard digging up paw paw and elderberry to transplant.

Tomorrow should be more digging. The Persimmon looks like it will be a pain. It really had a growth spurt this year. Finish off the day with Tutor Time. If she can recite the quadratic equation she will earn $10.
