Woke up a little after 2AM and knew something was wrong as soon as my eyes opened. I grabbed my phone and my Continuous Glucose Monitor and headed for the bathroom. From that time until now at 3:30 I've been in the can. My body is trying to get rid of something I ate and my blood glucose level is through the roof. Sickness tends to cause serious insulin resistance in Type 1 diabetics. I've got my BG coming down and it'll be at a more normal level within an hour or so. I'm hydrating hard to flush any ketones out of my system along with whatever the pathogen is that I ate.

We put the finishing touches on our Chicago area project yesterday so luckily today's work will be easy. If the equipment train shows up on time we'll probably load our machines up and chain them down for the train to haul them out to Barstow, California for the next project. That project goes along I-15 from Yermo to Las Vegas and ends at the strip.

After Monday I'm not going to worry about it though. I saved all but 12 hours of my vacation so I'm covered for the rest of the year, and our first scheduled day of work is going to be January 8th. I'm looking forward to over a month of nothing but me, my kid, my family, and some time with a little fireball of a redheaded nurse I met a couple months ago...😉

Snappy, how many banana breads are you making? Are you selling them?

Well, our Christmas market was a huge success, just about everyone that had any baked goods sold out plus we sold a bunch of meat, all the eggs too. I kept one little baggie of biscotti for son lol. The weather was better than expected. Yesterday early morning it was windy and pouring outside and I thought uh oh....not going to work. But by the time we fed the animals it was just slightly drizzling , and by the time we got there it stopped.

I am very happy about some of the comments I got from some of our customers: "you're German bread is the best of the entire market" . It's nice to hear that. I need to up my production of it since people are disappointed if they arrive late and don't get any.
One of my ovens didn't work on Friday so I baked some in the wood stove but overall a few less. Waiting on part to try to fix it. Anyone know anything about gas ovens? It's a Kenmore and about 20 years old. I ordered a new ignitor for it. It does require electric to start.

Busy today also, invited by a friend in town for lunch, plus we need to hurry and clean the barn since it didn't get done yesterday.

Making about 70 total assorted sizes. Only selling about 10. It's a family tradition.

Quiet Sunday morning, enjoying the antics of these crazy kittens... I guess they're adolescents now, maybe teenagers, but they are SO FUNNY when they get all amped up and chase cat toys & each other around the house! They act like meth heads at times, moving so fast & jinking & weaving... downright hilarious! Little Z-Girl gets this crazy look in her eyes and makes about 100 different movements in a matter of seconds, lol. But it's all good, their training is going well and they're learning survival skills, which is important in the high desert... if Old Man Coyote or Old Man Owl is after you, you need to be able to pull some evasive action. Haven't seen or heard either of those predators lately, but that doesn't mean they're NOT out there. Same for big hawks, which may suddenly show while passing through the area... so the kitten survival training continues. In the meantime, we all enjoy a nice Sunday morning... big breakfast later, I'm thinking of making some corn fritters or corn flour pancakes with maple syrup, thick ham slices & fried eggs. I don't make these cholesterol feasts that often, so I'm not worried about 'em, lol. Truth be told, I'm still a bit stiff & sore from all that recent riding, on top of the usual routine... so today will be a day of rest. A movie and/or a good book... maybe some football if I can find a decent program. Some cold beer later, most likely... Cheers!

Consider taking the oven door off to reach the ignitor.

Too bad you aren't closer, I just threw seven dozen of our very fresh home grown no antibiotics chicken eggs in the freeze drier. would have traded them for a loaf of home made bread.

Today I made it through the entire church service for the first time since my Husband died. Usually I don't feel up to going, or if I do go, I'm sobbing so hard by the time we get to communion that I duck out right after. I did have to go out and mop up my face and get a drink, but was able to go back in for the final blessing. It's been 338 days and the pain is just as bad as day 1. Time has not made it easier to bear.

No energy, but I have been pushing hard to try and get some chores done. Finally went around and refilled all the bait stations to try and keep the rodent population down. So far this winter I've caught a dozen mice in traps in the house. Mostly in the basement, one upstairs in my office, and one big fat one was in the trap in the pantry yesterday. Hopefully the renewed bait stations will thin them out somewhat. Also got the chimney swift nests cleaned out of the smoke shelf, and brought the fireplace tools back in, but haven't managed to bring in any firewood yet. And I got up on the ladder and tied up the patio awning so it's not slapping against the house in these constant winds we're having.

Feeling a heart ache for you, Heartbroken. I suspect I'll be where you're at.
Husband is moving around a bit today, but his breathing is still pretty terrible. He was able to go to mom's this afternoon, and I was surprised. Used his walker, went real slow, sat on her couch. Little granddaughter put together a tree for her and decorated it. She loved it. Then we went to Lowes and little granddaughter and I bought a fir tree, 7 ft. It's now on the porch in a bucket of water. I know tomorrow is the grade school Christmas musical, but maybe Tuesday night we can get it decorated.
I'm a barter fan, too. Yesterday's barter was help me butcher 3 big toms, and I gave them one. The neighbor lady will can hers, I'll be grinding up our two. She also said that they'd help with meat turkeys if I raise them next year. Those take two people, for sure. The ones we've raised before were easily 40 lbs.

Yesterday was a nice day, then last night the wife's machines started making a fuss... seems when she cleaned her line she closed the wrong clamp. It wasn't a big problem, but she was tired and really confused, she couldn't see the problem because she was too close and frustrated..... Only took a few minutes for me to fix it but then everyone was up and a good night's sleep was lost.

The nurse will come to draw blood and change her port dressing today, I cleaned off the table and did the dishes this morning because the wife will not have much strength to do anything today.

I ordered a new tilt base and guy wire bracket for my flag pole, I hope to dig out the old concrete base that broke and pour a new one this weekend. The goal is to have it all where I can hoist it into place myself, I had been using a 5 man crew to do it, but it was getting harder every year to get the help I needed. I would love to have the flag-pole light tree up for Christmas again this year and then rebuild it for next season.

I am off today and most of this week so I am planning to do a lot of cleanup and hauling that I have been putting off.

Had a nice lunch at our friends yesterday and then got home just in time to put up the animals. Everytime we visit someone else's house, and come home, I realize once again what a dump we live in lol....but I still fail to care as the alternative is living in a city and earning way more money than we do now . At least it gets me motivated to clean....

Today looks like the last rain free day in a while, so we need to do outside stuff. I need to take down some electric fencing in a pasture we are not using right now. The sheep fencing needs weedeating believe it or not , grass grows here even if it freezes and we need to collect starter wood for the fire ( I start it with small sticks and newspaper)
Just started it , as it is very cold in the house ( way below freezing outside right now )

It stopped snowing last night, but it's supposed to start up again later today. After breakfast I'll put the large plow on the front of the tractor and start plowing the road again. I've got about 3 miles of road to keep open. On some of our bigger storms it takes 8 to 12 hours to make a pass down and back up again with the tractor. Once I get a solid snow base, and define where the road is, I'll start using the big snowblower. It's much quicker, usually about 3 hours per pass, and more comfortable with the heated cab.

Gonna pay some bills, do a little yard work once it dries out a bit more... I'm planning to pull weeds and fill the bin, these are the dead weeds from the "weed patch" right near my back doorstep. I originally left those weeds in place to provide cover & concealment for the kittens, and they learned to use that cover & concealment, so the weeds served their purpose... now they're dead and they don't really provide much concealment anymore, so it's time for them to go. The kittens are larger now as well, so they're safer from aerial attack by hawks. Not entirely safe if some BIG hawk shows up or passes through, but generally safer. The unsightly dead weeds should pull easily after the recent rains. I'm also gonna drive those stakes into the ground to support a couple of fence posts: I postponed that minor task when I heard about rain in the forecast, as I reckoned it would be easier to drive the stakes into wet soil. When the soil is dry here, it can be difficult to pull weeds or pound stakes, as the ground feels like concrete, lol.

I did the dishes and made breakfast, Breakfast Burritos. My wife loves them. This afternoon we are going to a Christmas concert with friends. We have gone for several years, and it is very popular. It is in a huge, beautiful church. All live entertainment of several varieties. After the concert we all go out to dinner together. Very festive. Really helps to put you in the spirit.

I went to a Christmas concert and get together after last night. It was great and we had so much fun. It really does help get one in the spirit!

Today, already walked.
Going to run around locally for Christmas stamps, flea pill for dog, pay property taxes.
Second load of laundry is already started.
Will clean baths and dust house.
Make one business call.
Nice day!

Put up the two new lithium smoke detectors with the "escape lights". Ordered on more detector to replace one I missed in my "census", it will get here sometime Thursday.

Sore throat, head congestion, the winter creeping crud has found me :p. Luckily, this too shall pass.

Spikedriver, I hope you get feeling better and get your sugar sorted out.

Heartbroken, Grief is a terrible thing & I know its not easy to get things done with it eating at you.

Amish Heart, I hope your husband will recover quickly.

Snappy, banana bread sounds good.

I got my brother out of the house to ride with me into town. The fresh air is better for him than sitting in his room. Grabbed mail and got groceries and RX at walmart. I picked up some otc meds for him. Also got him some orange juice. I got some tea. Forgot to change hvac filter but I'm fighting myself on getting up and doing it now. Cat is currently curled up on my shoulder purring in my ear and will not be happy if I get up.
