Well, I started the soup and my home smells good, even with windows open at each end. Gonna keep puttering around and do a couple of minor outdoor tasks before heading up to the fuel station. I was thinking of visiting the Alameda Park Zoo here in Alamogordo this afternoon, it's the OLDEST ZOO in the Southwest, est'd in 1898 along with the town. You can Google it, there are even pics in the reviews, lol. If I go to the zoo, I'll probably take my car and some plastic jerry jugs for gasoline for the bike... I don't wanna walk around in that hot gear (riding suit), and I don't wanna leave it unattended either, no future in that, lol. We'll see, I may just stay here with the cats... 🐱 🐈‍⬛ 🐯 🐈‍⬛ 🐱

I'm glad I did NOT go riding, as the weather is acting funny today. Sunny one moment, cloudy the next, with variable wind (and no telling how strong that wind is in the mountains). Besides, it's too late to ride now, I like to leave the house no later than 10:00 on riding days, and it's almost noon... so I'm okay with the call I made, the mountains aren't going anywhere, not in my lifetime anyway, lol. No beer yet, I'm too full after a turkey plate with stuffing and homemade gravy, lol... there's SO much meat left on this big ol' bird, I'm saving some for another sandwich or two, and I'll still have a large mixing bowl full of turkey chunks for the soup! Gonna be some HEARTY turkey soup with veggies & pasta, lol. :D

P.S. While I was trimming the bird, I put aside a nice pile of turkey chunks for the cats, so they're happy campers right now... most of 'em are sacked out after eating their share of turkey, lol. Meh, beats breaking rocks in the hot sun... :oops:

Animal chores, heavy winds still. So I didn't get animal tarps up. But it's in the low 60's, so not cold at all. It's going to drop like a rock though, and be 40 degrees lower in the morning. Husband is feeling bad, so waiting on him a bit more than usual. Went into our little town for the post office, to pick up 500 lbs of chicken feed, and shopped the amish discount store. Got the feed unloaded and into the milkhouse. Relaxing after my pbj for lunch. Have bulbs to put in the ground (still).

The dogs unplugged my tractor last night so it wouldn't start. I still had the push snow blower to clear paths to the boiler and chicken coop.

My new personal grader operator cleared the front again. I left some fresh ginger snaps in his grader for a midnight snack. I sure hope he doesn't get transferred somewhere else any time soon.

Got news that a family member we were around this week has tested positive for 'vid. We hugged and held this little person, I thought kids weren't supposed to be as susceptible to it. This person got it from one of the people they were staying with while visiting for the holiday. There have been so many people that I have been around over the past 2 years who had it, and every time I was tested (required) it was negative. A friend said he and his brother were both sick, same symptoms, brother tested positive the same day he tested negative.
Today, in the morning, I will fight with my washer for several hours, do lots of cleaning, get a room ready for painting.

If it’s clear tonight I’ll go over to some friends who have elementary school age kids and we’ll look at the moon with my camera setup. They are currently studying moon phase and astronomy (different ages) so this should be interesting to them. I think I can pair my iPad to the camera for live viewing, when I decide to get out of bed I’ll check that out. 🙂

The lady I was going to clean for today is not feeling well, so unexpected day off!! Laundry, laundry, laundry, after I go out to feed the donkey! Need to do some house cleaning, trim Bear's nails, do the few Christmas cards I'm sending, and many outside tasks when it warms up later. Will fit a nap in there somewhere. Really needed a whole day home to catch up a little!!

I'll be heading out to a funeral in a little while. My dad's 98 year old cousin. She had a life well lived. Took Dad and the deceased's sister to the wake last night. Got to see and meet cousins I knew I had but don't really see. I realized last night at the wake the reason my dad is hesitate to move out of this area is his 95 year old cousin. She never married and he's the only relative really close by. I see her in the store fairly regularly. She was also my mom's best friend. That's how mom and dad met--through cousin Dot.

It's about 10 degrees here this morning. After breakfast I'll work on clearing the road again. Only got about a third of the road open yesterday. We have another snow storm moving in tomorrow morning through next Friday. Once I get the road passable we'll go to town and pick up some medicine and a few other things. I'm still not feeling too good yet.
We get snowed in a lot every winter so we're well stocked up on everything except cold medicine.

Gotta get out when you can!! Hope you get to feeling better!!

I bought some bird food the other day at TSC, and the stuff is no good... the birds won't touch it. Huh? Do y'all suppose someone made a mistake at the processing plant and added some lame ingredient that the birds don't like? Some sort of spray, maybe? I already opened one bag, but I think I'm gonna take the other back and swap it for something else. Maybe I'll take both bags back and they'll let me swap both, that'd be good. I don't begrudge 'em the money, I just want some bird seed that will attract birds, not drive 'em away. 😒

I only tried this bagged stuff because the bags I normally buy at WallyWorld have gotten stupid expensive, like $23+ per bag, pffffffft. These bags from TSC were only $18, and now I know why... the cr@p's no good. 😕

Otherwise, I'll be puttering around the property again, the forecast called for rain but I see no sign of it, seems like the weather guessers have been wrong quite often lately... we could use the rain too, it hasn't rained here in weeks. :rolleyes:

This is how my day started..stunning clear sunrise. The stars were amazing this am too!
Got some laundry done..been catching up on news n media. It's about time to get outta my jammies n do feed the rest of the critters n get stuff done.
It's so damb cold out tho. ..

Three turkeys all done. Neighbor's husband strung them up for me after I caught them, slit the throats, axed off the head and feet, then we brought all three inside and got them done so we didn't freeze. Little granddaughter kept their two little ones busy while we got it done. Husband still not feeling well. Am taking little granddaughter into the bigger town for some pants shopping. There's a few "jeans required" days for school coming up, and she doesn't have any. Usually wears dresses and leggings. Wondering what the amish girls will be wearing...maybe sweats under their dresses? Anyway, we'll see what we can find.

Called TSC and they're gonna let me swap the junk bird food for something better... honestly, I've never seen wild birds turn down food before, it makes me think there's something wrong with it, like it was mistakenly treated with something, aye? Meh, I'll load the bags up in awhile and take 'em back, no big deal... I don't want my flock of doves relocating due to poor food. This reminds me of some cr@ppy bargain basement dog food I bought decades ago for my Rhodesian Ridgeback, it was so lame that the dog wouldn't eat it, and I wound up taking it back to swap for something better. :confused:

@Wingnut right about the bird seed prices at Wally World. I feed birds in the winter but the squirrels eat too much of it, tired of that battle. You can make some good stuff up with oat flakes and peanut butter or your leftover bacon grease if your local temps stay low enough. Critters were also stealing the suet cakes I’d put out. Hope you find a good blend.

The Princess is a driven person determined to get things done. She was swapping out curtains today when I found her stranded on the kitchen table. Getting up there is easier than getting down.

I did rescue her. 😊

I got that last big persimmon out today using a saws all on four large roots.

Lot of good root structure intact. I will prune back the top big rime because loosing that much root will taxe the roots supporting the entire tree.

Surrounded it with the potted trees and hilled around the lot until I am ready to transplant them to The Ridge.

Received a shipment of cutters for the lathe. Indexable cutters and holders to cut inside and outside threads. I always enjoy finding a home for new tools in the shop. While my shop is chaotic my tools all have a place so I can find them.

It's good to rescue Princesses!
Survived the Walmart shopping with little granddaughter. She found jeans, and some crazy Christmas sweaters to go with them. She ran in to some friends from school there. She talked me into going thru the Chic fil a drivethru for some waffle fries and peppermint shakes. Their peppermint shakes are awesome. Went to the amish deli for husband's favorite swiss cheese, and our favorite butter cheese. Came home to see the hose was finally unthawed, so I hosed down the turkey killing zone, but the blood had frozen. Got the geese some clean swimming water. Feels like it's later than it is, but probably because I was up and at em at o dark thirty this morning.

We only get what is labeled "Wild Bird Sees" at TSC. Our birds love it. We've tried other stuff and tend to get a lot kicked out of the feeder.

I rotated half of my stored 100% gas today and treated and refilled those jugs. Shelled out the rest of the kidney and great northern beans. Still got a bunch out in the shop to shell. Drug out the wifes Christmas decorations and she got some pout up already. We don't do a ton, but she sure makes what she does look good.

Finally went up to the back of the property and sat there and smoked a nice stoogie. Spent better than an hour relaxing and thinking thru some projects I want to do, and a couple I'd like to do but probably won't get to before spring gets here.

@Bacpacker a stogie is a cigarette, right? What is a stoogie?:cool:🤪
Little one will be okay and I hope is on the way home from ER now, but is very sick with a very high fever. They can't give him the anti-virals. The mom is sick now too with high fever, I guess the baby is next, then the dad. I hope I'm safe.
My sister said that she, our nephew, and I must be from the neanderthals. We haven't gotten cv19. 🤞
The washer didn't misbehave too badly today. Got a lot of cleaning done, found a good place nearby to drop off no longer needed clothing and household stuff. The last time I dropped stuff off at a well-known second hand store, it all was put right into the trash as they took it from the van, and the time before that too at a different location. I didn't know they could be so choosy.
Funny about wild birds being choosy @Wingnut You didn't put your feeders in a different place? Sometimes birds are kind of dumb about going to the feeder. I'm on the TSC website and the prices look good. Thanks, @Bacpacker The only brands I'm seeing are Royal Wing, Value Mix, and Lyric. The squirrels did learn how to shimmy up the skinny little bird food holder pole. Stinkers.
@Amish Heart peppermint shakes sound good.
@hashbrown love that truck
@Neb you're a knight in shining armor.
Hope everyone is having a good evening.

A stoogie is a Cigar. I never smoked cigarettes, but have enjoyed an occasional cigar since my teen years when I shared a cheapie with my grandpa and uncles after a get together meal. Now days mostly just on my own. But my BIL and I enjoy them at times when we get together.
My humidor is a "vertical" Coleman cooler with spanish cedar trays and Boveda packs for humidity control. Too cold to have any fun outside now, 24 degrees F.

Yesterday I went to Samsclub in the morning and brought my brother along. We stopped at the Chinese buffet place (its the best place in that town for food, IMO). My brother had some soup and hot green tea. I had long beans, ginger chicken sticks, chicken with broccoli, & two bowls of egg drop soup. Brother is feeling even worse and in the car before going in he sprained his left wrist somehow. I've done it before and know how much it sucks. I went into samsclub while my brother slept in the truck. Grabbed my stuff & got out then unloaded it when we got home.

My stupid arm is hurting all the way down to the wrist now. I can't find a comfortable sleeping position where it isn't bothering me. Woke up absolutely boiling. My brotehr had turned the AC off and I'd put i on fan mode circulate only & the house had cooled of nicely but Mom went and turned the heat back on so now its over 80 inside and I feel like I can barely breathe. I took some naproxyn to see if it will help. The arthritis cream had no impact. I forgot to put the leftovers away but it was still early enough to put them away. I was so overheated and I just tossed them to the dogs instead though. I really really hate being hot. I know 80 isn't a big deal but when its 80 in the hallway its hotter in my room. Plus my meds make me heat sensitive.

Will see if I can get myself back to sleep.
