It's been snowing all day here, 13 degs. I was hoping to have a couple days off from plowing. Coming home last night we got stuck in our driveway. Just slid off the road for no apparent reason.
Been sitting here by the wood stove watching the blue jays on the front porch eating peanuts. Better get back outside and fire up the snowblower. We're getting some wind, and that means drifting.

Was supposed to go to the 76 House for dinner tonight but the others that were joining us are sick. We’ll go after New Year’s now. Shame I was looking forward to sitting in the front room by the fire place. They’ve got a portrait of Benedict Arnold hanging upside down over it. It’s the tavern that Major Andre was held in during his trial at the church across the road. Up the road, in the middle of a cul-de-sac, is the site they hanged him at.

Neighbor boy Levi came by and made a ton of sugar cookies with little granddaughter. They turned out pretty good, and he took a plateful home. Came back and is staying for dinner. Just finished cleaning up....ha.
Little granddaughter's bus driver stopped in and brought her an extra large take and bake pizza and a 2 liter sprite. It amazes me that she does that for every single rider.

My wife wants to go over the mountains to our son's house for Christmas so I've been sorting out my winter road trip survival supplies.
If I keep adding stuff I'll have to take my truck instead of the Toyota.
My list of supplies is long and varied.
I hope to never need it but I will not travel without being prepared.

Exactly what I did today. Wife fusses over me taking so much stuff. But we'll only need it once to make it worthwhile.

We went to our other small town today. Two hrs of winter driving over a small pass one way.

Since it is not well traveled and few people live along the way, we too had the car half full and the goal was to get some more gear for our nine hour drive the other way, for Christmas dinner. As the temperatures are going to be closing in on -40F, we pretty much need to be ready for winter camping if something goes wrong.

It was dark on the way home and we could see a big glow far off in the distance. About ten minutes from home we passed a good sized fire making some scary progress. We called the report a fire # as soon as we found a spot with cell service. I was surprised at how hard it was to tell them the fire's location.

Finally, I asked if they could zoom in on the map so they could see something besides the main highway. They were surprised about the fire as everything is covered in snow. It was burning pretty hot and spreading fast.

A nice family get together, good food. Got to see a few folks I haven’t seen in a year. My aunt's new house was nice but cold. High ceilings always feel cold though. I never took my jacket off, even had on a flannel shirt.

Only about 25 folks were there, of my granny’s kids, only 7 of the sisters were present. The one living brother was a no show. Even worse was my generation, only 3 of us attended. Out of 21 cousins (not counting spouses) just 3? and one drove over from ga! Nice to see him, missed seeing him last year. Had him laughing about the sail boat I found out in the woods last year. He said I should’ve left a note “for sale?”

Picked up some groceries while in town. Traffic was a nightmare, weekend before christmas and the major 4-lane was down to 2, construction.

Stopped at the office supply store. I got a memory card for the new phone, 256gb was only $30. Got another usb cable for the truck that fits also. Now I can charge while driving. I’m definetly happy with the camera in the new phone. Takes great pictures.

@Hooch what are those? I've never seen Georgia boots like that.
They are muddog boot by Georgia boots.
They are slip resistant..chemical n water resistant soles and with a warm pair of wool blend socks they keep my toes warm in these cold temp were having at work n home. Single digit temps good to go.
Plus there cute boots..

Checked on my friends place today and helped another friend put chains on here bobcat so she can move hay to horses.
The weather forecast didnt call for snow but that's what we got most of the day. Cold, high in the teens, lows singles n snow.
Went to town to fuel up n get a few items.
Watched a documentary called out of shadows..really good doc.
I fired up the wood stove today..love wood heat..doesn't take long to get my place up in the 70's too.
I decided to cook up some rice n corn for my chickens for a warm treat. It's going to be down in the temps tonight and I think some warm extra calories help them stay warmer. So far I havent lost anyone yet to cold and no cold injuries either.
I'm enjoying the wood stove n quiet soft doggie snores now.

That's a good idea. Just caught part of the forecast. One night this week it's supposed to be down to 10 degrees. Unfortunately I missed which night.

First thought was the chickens. I only have 4 old hens left, don't want to lose one.

Spike, I think it is awesome that you have done all that and are continuing to do things for your daughter like that. I know a lot of people who put themselves and their own convenience above the needs of their kids. You're an awesome dad and I want to give you a big hug for it.

Argued with the jerk seller on ebay. He's still refusing to issue a full refund & is still blaming me for buying a product that is defective (but he's claiming it is not). I told him I will get a letter confirming it is defective/bad & I want nothing less than full refund. Ebay CS said they have my back and that if he tries to pay me less than full refund they will make him pay it all back to me. Can't wait to give this jerk a 1 star scathing review and tell everyone he's a scammer. equsrocks is the seller btw.

Got up and cleaned up trash. Took a nap. Got back up and cleaned again until my body wouldn't cooperate anymore. Don't have full mobility of my left arm-- can't even lift it a full 90 degrees. Filled about five 55 gallon bags of trash while cleaning and still have more to do. That's how bad it got from trash cans spilling & my brother refusing to help or pick up any of his own trash, throwing trash on the floor, and pushing trash out of his bedroom. Anyway, I'm making progress and Mom was happy. She saw me and said "A trash thief broke in and stole our trash!!!" LOL.

I cooked for her and am about to play elder scrolls online for a bit.

Very busy yesterday. After taking care of the animals ( 2 hours and I went up to the house before done and let husband finish) I started cleaning the extra bedroom for daughter and sil. It's amazing how things accumulate in an unused room....
Then made chicken and dumplings, dishes, took dogs for a walk up the mountain, cleaned kitchen including scrubbing the cabinets which really need to be painted. I tend to make a mess when I cook....
Then I made dough for bread and gingerbread cookies for today.
Plus talked on phone for over an hour with friends in Florida . I miss them, we used to get together for holidays a lot of the time. Then talked to daughter, she is coming snow or not. She reminded me she has been driving for 15 years and has driven through several blizzards....I reminded her she is 7 months pregnant...
Weather forecast now calls for less snow and more rain, I don't know what's worse. I hate the rain, but don't want to drive in the snow

A little light snow this morning, maybe a couple inches over night. Our builder is coming out today to finish insulating under the house and to reroute the sewer line. It's too close to the furnace and I can't change the filter. The crawl space under the house is almost tall enough to stand up in. The wife wants to put some shelves under the house for more food storage.
I'll have to plow the road again so this guy can drive in. He'll probably get stuck anyway. Even around here, most people don't carry chains.

Baking in the plans for today. Husband wants some candy cane cookies. Maybe start the banana breads. Making something to go to favorite cousin's house tonight for dinner. Grandson freaked us out yesterday but cleaning his bedroom floor. He took out 4 huge bags of trash. He hasn't cleaned up in there since the almost dying and vomiting everywhere episode. So somethings up, and not sure what. Maybe he realized his mushroom stash is missing.

Town run, then back to my 'Road Safety' thread... I also have to get the *new* 4G flip-phone activated today, and alert family & friends to my new number, which will be randomly selected by Verizon, I suppose. I don't really want to let go of the 3G flip-phone, as it has served me well and taken all kinds of abuse, lol, but the times they are a-changing and I'm forced to change with 'em. So it goes... at least I'll have a "local" area code again, which sometimes helps when ya wanna blend in with the locals. Okay, gotta run, the clock seems to be racing today...

P.S. Technically, the 3G phone is good until New Year's Eve, but today is the last day on the current phone card, and I have a new card waiting on standby for the 4G phone. Anybody wanna bet an 'Internet sawbuck' on what my new phone number will be? Lol... whaddya reckon the odds are of guessing correctly?

Did laundry yesterday, I hate doing the bedding, have to start early to have it all finished and back in place by bed time... I did a load before church this morning, need to do some more this afternoon. The wife has been sick this week, hacking cough and congestion not good...

I have been spending free time making plans for the rebuilt of my flagpole Christmas tree, I will be powering it from the ground next year and I needed to make a 25' extension cord with an outlet every 12 inches, it was a PIA but I finished it last night. I am still looking for a replacement star for the top, I need something 3D about 24"s tall that has a good appearance from 3 sides.

Ordered the last of the gifts that I have planned for this year, it's hard to shop for people who don't really need anything. ;)

I planned to get up in the morning to go clean out the truck but body was not cooperating. Woke up, took vitamins, drank water and went back to sleep until after noon. Finally got up & tried to get myself moving. My body is sore all over so I couldn't clean as well as I wanted. I could barely bend or move. I decided to take stuff in from the back seat and then figured the people at the dealership won't be going in to the back seat so I left the rest of the stuff in there (moving blankets, tie downs, etc). Focused on the front. Took the mats (which are similar to weathertech) out and dumped the dirt off of them and cleaned underneath. I'd had a car vacuum somewhere in the house but couldn't find it. Cleaned out old receipts, empty water bottles, etc. The side my brother sits on was really cluttered up with his junk. I emptied the mini trashcan I keep in there. Got it reasonably clean. May need to go back with disinfectant wipes and wipe down the dashboard but really don't care that much. My cows came over to see me. Red cow had at least 5 ticks behind her horn. I took a stick and started scratching behind her horns & she put her head down to make it easier for me. Pulled off the ticks and continued to pet her for a bit before going back to the truck again.

I was going to ask my brother to help me carry pet food bags in but he'd already left to go somewhere. Either to a friend's house or to work. I suspect to a friend's house. He always "conveniently" leaves when I ask him to help me with cleaning.

I was going to do more cleaning in the house but my body is too sore. Naprosyn is not helping thus far. I'm about to get the heated massage back thingy out.

You can port your current phone number to your new phone if you’d want to keep it.

Yeah, but part of this phone swap involves changing my number to the 575 area code, that way I'll seem like more of a local, lol... I like blending in with the local population. I'll just go with whatever number is randomly assigned to me, as long as I don't mistakenly receive the number for Biden's White House... can't have that, I don't wanna field abusive hate calls each & every night, lol. Notifying my friends & relatives about my new number won't be difficult, and maybe I can scrape a few more undesirables out of my life like dog$h!t off my friggin' boot, lol... you know, spammers who already have my number & skip tracers zeroing in on my old number, lol. Just kidding, I don't owe anything to anybody, except maybe a little respect to good friends & family... ;)

Yesterday I oiled my cutting boards. I had the kitchen cleaned enough to lay them all out to oil and sit overnight. This morning they had absorbed enough oil that I wiped the excess and let them sit again for a few hours to 'dry'. They have now been buttered with the spoon butter and will sit until morning. I have also oiled my wood spoons. They will be buttered tomorrow.

The kitchen is cleaned and I can start meal prepping Monday for my folks visit. I just have a sink full of excess dishes to be cleaned. I can sort the fridge before getting the last of the holiday groceries. Fun.

I have a doe ready to kindle next weekend. I have the nest box ready to give to her tomorrow and a bag of her fur she molted this summer. I figure if she doesn't pull fur I have some of hers and a big bag of raw spinners cotton fibers to make a nest with. Right after she kindles my current momma will be weaned of her kits in pairs. I will put them in cages as pairs starting with the biggest ones.

Working hard to get the rest of the house ready for the holidays. My folks are staying for about 4-5 days. We have a bed set up for them and installed the new patio dog door so no one has to 'let the dogs out'.

Hope she feels better soon and I agree on the laundry. I am going to make a trip to the laundromat hour away ( closest one) to do ours and the ones for the guest bedroom. We don't have a dryer and the waterline we hook the washer up to is currently frozen....

Worked on the road early today, got stuck in the snow with the wife's Jeep.
Came in and made a couple batches of ketchup. Last one is simmering on the wood stove right now. The house really smells good. Tomorrow evening I'm going to make a batch of smoked habanaro hot sauce.
In the morning we're going to try driving out and go shopping in the next town, 60 miles away. If the roads aren't too bad.
