@Terri9630 ah you are not using the Vegemite properly, most people put loads of it on and that is wrong you only put a smear on your toast. It tastes great with smashed avo over the top on the toast too which is my favourite way of having it.

@WVDragonlady the ramp and deck is looking really good and the different tints make no difference and eventually with the sun they will all turn the same colour anyway.

The lady who used to live across the street made it for her just a bit scraped on the bread to try it. She said it tasted like really salty bad soy sauce and smelled fishy. I don't think I will be able to get her to try it again even if I found it somewhere. She's pretty stubborn. She said "Thank you very much for caring and trying to help". She seems to like the country ham, I'll have to slice some up and have her carry it. She can suck on it if she starts not feeling well.

change of plans; we did a little shopping. but we didn't make it to bil's. my sister was supposed to take mother and step-dad to doctor but couldn't because our dad was in the hospital. they don't think dad will get to go home.he is 86 years old. i sincerely hope they are wrong.

I'm with your daughter, Terri, vegemite tastes fishy to me, too. And I don't like fish. It must be an acquired taste, Sewing.
About to change into my paint clothes and put another coat of paint on the bedroom floor. Then it's load garbage and go to the dump and then go pick up mom for lunch. Today is our last day here and I'll also need to meet with mom's home health care nurse this afternoon. She is supposed to be going through some boxes so I can bring some things to our farm that she wants stored, but I would be very surprised if she did. We'll be saying goodbye to her this afternoon and then going to my favorite cousins for supper and visiting. Maybe stopping in at the small farmers market before that.

Visited with mom, and had a meeting with her nurse about an upcoming oral surgery she needs. It looks like it'll need to happen when I'm here to watch her for a few days. We leave in the morning (sigh) and will be back at the end of next month. Took mom out to lunch, and brought some junk she has jammed in her closets to store in one of our outbuildings. She has a whole wall of junk stored at my uncle's place a few doors down, and it needs to be moved to her place and gone through. It's all antique dolls, doll furniture, doll everything....Maintenance at her assisted living will be bringing the boxes to her and she'll have to go through them. Stopped in at our little town's farmers market and bought some home canned items (dill pickles, sweet pickles, mulberry jam, beets, Amish peanut butter) to bring back to our teaching staff. Also some egg noodles and cashew brittle. They like it when I bring back stuff to try. Had supper with my favorite cousin and her kids and grandkids. We cooked out hamburgers and hotdogs. Said goodbye to the Jersey cows at our farm. They come around up to the fence to watch us in the evening when we're on the porch.

Today we did a bit in the mountain cottage and started off the morning with me harvesting 1.12 kg of cherry tomatoes from the gardens and then we harvested both the French and English lavender that was ready too and hung it up on curtain rails to dry in the hallway. I have been trading the lavender, dried herbs and marigold or calendula flowers with a lady in Australia who is an avid soap maker for lovely lip balms she makes as well as comfrey cream.

I also have another order for a lot of thyme from one gentleman on the internet that will pretty much wipe us out of the current lot we have just about dried too. Been busy busy separating dried herbs and flower petals the last few days.

Then into the kitchen where DH washed the dishes and cleaned the benches and I wiped them and put them away and DH put on a loaf of bread in the bread making machine. DH went out an put on the garden drip irrigation system to water both the front and back vegetable gardens and then turned them off when finished. DH then made a batch of magic mix chocolate pudding and put it in the fridge to set.

Just finished one half of our scripture reading for tomorrow's lesson and will work on reading the 2nd shortly.

Tonight's dinner was the other half of our homemade pizza and dessert was tinned fruit with magic mix chocolate pudding, yum :D .

Today hasn't unfolded yet, but let me tell you about yesterday!
Drove downtown to the DMV to get the tags for my car. My temp plates expired last week and the paperwork from the state of Misery (Missouri) finally caught up with me. The post office in St. Louis stamped it at least 3 Times on 3 different days! Took all of downtown and of course the state of Alabama needed something else. Went out to the car and called the financial company and put in a request for the information I needed. After I got through trying to interpret this "Northern" lady with a strong accent, I asked her if it would be faxed to the DMV by Monday. She said "Oh no! Give us at least a week!). She didn't see the humor when I told her to fax it, not use the Pony Express. I might not get it for 2 weeks now.
Went home and was eating lunch and heard a loud 'pop' from the bedroom. I walked in there and the top of my air mattress had a huge bubble in the middle of it.

I laid down on it to see if I could still sleep on it. The thing promptly flipped up and dumped me unceremonially (not a real word) in the floor! I called customer service and they told me to ship it to them ON MY OWN DIME! I had to fold it up 3 different ways before I finally 'rassled' the thing into the box.
After that problem was finally resolved, I decided I needed a drink. I had put a big bottle of Mt. Dew in the freezer earlier to do a quick chill and during the saga of the air mattress I forgot about it. I took it out of the freezer and took the lid off. It exploded in my face. I mean it EXPLODED! It bounced off the ceiling, cabinets, stove, refrigerator, floor, everything in the kitchen. Even the front of my clothes were dripping. 45 minutes later, I had everything cleaned up. The kitchen was a lot cleaner than when I moved in. For a trash can liner I recycle my plastic shopping bags for a trash can liner. I was still kinda PO'd and when I pulled the bag closed by the handle I guess I kinda pulled to hard and the bottom of the bag burst open and trash went all over my clean floor. I almost lost it at this point! I cleaned the floor AGAIN and took the trash out(I used two bags this time). At bedtime I was almost afraid to close my eyes for fear of what would happen! I was so worked up I couldn't go to sleep anyway.
Well, that was the way my day went yesterday.
Fun!
Exciting!
Educational!
Exhilarating!
Today has to be better, lol!

Wow what a day, Gumpy! I'm glad I don't have those days very often and hope you don't either! Today has not unfolded for me yet, either. See you all later!

Yesterday I finished the rebar cage and back-filled the forms for my ramp. Today, if I get the mixer I will be pouring concrete - 2000 pounds of it.
If I don't get the mixer, I may be mixing it by hand and pouring it anyway. Twenty-five 80 pound bags are stacked and waiting.

Oh my aching back! Lol

Awhile back I bought a very large heavy throwing knife at a thrift store for about $7.
Yesterday I reshaped the blade and the handle area to transform it into a hunting knife shape. I then made a hilt and for a handle I used some cherry wood I had here. While working with the knife I discovered that it was quite hard. To drill the hole for the pin in the handle a regular drill bit would not drill at all, I had to use a carbide drill bit.
This morning I made a plastic lined leather sheath for the knife. This is the result. Now I have yet another hunting knife in a larger size that I will never use.

Well today hubby has gotten it into his head that he's going to replace the back porch decking now since the "wood" is still on sale for $11 a foot. Thats where he is now buying more. Be nice if we could get enough for the back deck to redo it too but thats not happening right now lol
Myself I'm watching baseball and enjoying a nice cooler low humidity day today. I have the doors and windows open for the fresh air. I actually have long pants on today lol
Found a recipe online for a German cucumber salad I want to try
And I've been looking online for a new hair style. Something layered and just to my collar in length. Tired of this heavy thick long hair. Time for it to go ( for now). Its such a pain to take care of it anymore

I started getting headaches a few weeks ago. Don't know if it was the hair or stress over the kid. I pulled my hair back and told hubby to cut it. He didn't want to but he did because I was going to do it. Cut over 12in off and I feel much better with shorter hair.

Oh poor @gumpy :( , I have days like that too but not usually that many things happening the wrong way in a day.

I had a bit of an episode yesterday where we were going to separate the I thought dried thyme on the front veranda. DH had leaned the rock screener on an angle leaning on the table and the back on the veranda rails so I decided to clean around it thinking it was stable. Of course the table wobbled and down it came under the back of the table and landed on my foot with a ca thump, by this time I was seeing stars and yelling for DH to come and help and sitting on the floor holding my injured socked foot. Out came the Arnica cream which I put straight on it which helped a great deal. This morning I just have a bruised toe nail and am walking fine. The wonders of Arnica never cease to amaze me.

Then I was bringing in some firewood from the front veranda and one slipped my grasp and was heading for the same foot. Fortunately my stubborn redheadedness said no you are not hitting the same blinkin toe again and I caught it :) .

Hope you have a better day today @gumpy and you should have got all the shiteful occurrences over and done with yesterday in one batch for another 6 months.

@Amish Heart travel safe :).

Covertly watching the back neighbours pack up their household into trailers.

Yeah, the ones who had the drug raid.

I am stoked!
YES!!!!!!

A few weeks respite until the housing commission moves another lot in there then
who knows what they'll be like.
But, at the moment I'll take my blessings where I can find them.

Thank you, Jesus.

@gumpy you don’t need the apocalypse to come, your daily life is and adventure. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when I read about your day

@hiwall :woo hoo:happy dance for the rain in your drought conditions. We have had around 17mm in the last week but we need way more. At least the grass is now turning a greenish colour instead of a brown or hay colour. Doesn't matter how much you water rain just has a miraculous way of making grass and vegetables grow like wildfire.

Its sunday that means laundry day. Hubby's work clothes, the sheets and the towels. Then figure out what to make for supper. I might just go with cheeseburgers from the grill and a pasta salad. I plan on grilling some zucchini too after I marinate it in a nice greek marinade and slip into the pasta salad lol
Hubby says he doesn't like zucchini but he eats it and doesn't know it

I need to get unpacked...check on the animals. Laundry to do, and I need to stop by work and getting the billing/payroll/tuition statements in before morning. Also grocery list for fresh stuff. Looking out the window, looks like my green beans went kaput. Why do things change so much when I was only gone 8 days? Hmmm. Two more chicks hatched and last baby turkey has splayed leg. I need to go take a look at that new Cemani hen that we got last week. So busy day. 6 year old granddaughter comes in tomorrow night from California to stay with us a few weeks.

Got some rain!!! Not too much at only a quarter inch but waaaay better than nothing.

We were in El Paso and it was raining and it followed us all the way home. We've had almost 2 inches so far THIS MONTH! Can you believe that?? We are so excited. Much better than a few years ago when we had 2 inches for the whole year.

I'm sitting here with some ice on hand because some type of wasp stung me while I was grilling the burgers out on the back deck.
We've just seen these type this year. They've been killing insects and storing them for food apparently. Saw one go in an old carpenter bee hole and then stuffed it closed with dried grass and pine needles.
Darn thing has my middle finger red and swollen from one knuckle to the other and I can hardly bend it. This is the first I've been stung for decades.
Hurts like the dickens!!!!
