Congrats Mo.

Went out and had breakfast with the guys, BIL, and 2 nephews. Then off to auto parts store to get a new wiper to replace the one I broke gettin ice off it. May go to Frankenmuth later.
Gonna start loading up tomorrow and head home Wed morning. Hopefully roads are in better shape by then.

I actually shoveled the driveway, and salted it. Well, half of it anyway. I got a lecture from the better half that the cleaning lady is coming tomorrow, and she walks up the driveway to get into the garage. The other half is taken up by my car and my son's car, and they aren't going anywhere.

Had a very nice visit with friends yesterday, and the roads were fine. Snow we were supposed to get today didn't materialize, which didn't break anybody's heart. Still cold but hovering around freezing, and supposed to warm up later in the week.

Dinner is postponed until tomorrow. The ER was closed at the hospital, but the roads were closed just after we got through. This meant that the ambulance couldn't get out to take people to the hospitals elsewhere and air flight was a non starter. Someone had a fell off the ladder emergency and another family member had a heart attack from the stress.

My son is only a few minutes from the hospital and we got the two of them there. Only one nurse so we did some scut work and day care for the family involved.

Looks like it's going to be OK. The helicopter was able to transport late this morning.

The wind, rain, and Ice played heck with my old dying oak tree.. So I'm out there picking up dead branches and I hear a strange sound... It sounds like a diesel pickup towing a semi up the hill, I look over and see a Dodge 3500 HD Diesel towing something up the hill and it is struggling, but I just couldn't make it out.... then what do I see but a shiny black Tesla, it obviously does not want to go up the hill and it appears to be dead, dead, dead... Yep, I think he froze his D cells! I know it was not nice for me to make fun of someone else's troubles but a dead Tesla in the winter is just to be expected. I can't wait till we are all forced into pushing our BEVs from December to April... NOT!

Getting the house somewhat in order, at least the downstairs. We went into the bigger town to Tractor. Didn't see much in the sale area, but a baseball cap with Cat Lady on it. So I got it for little granddaughter. Got my game bird feed, just 400 lbs this time, and some more walkway salt, and found a pair of Yaktrax for my choring shoes. Got the feed unloaded into the milkhouse. Outside is an ice rink right now, so that should help. I don't want to break a hip, and I've fallen 3 times out there in the past few days. I say luckily on my knees, but I don't have very good knees. Worked on bringing more wood up and filling up the porch racks. I normally use the wagon, but with the ice rink of a driveway, I decided to walk it and throw it towards the porch and then stack afterwards. I enlisted little granddaughter's help. Laughed my head off....grandson walked right past us, huffing and puffing, working on hauling wood in 20 degree ice weather. I told little granddaughter never to marry a man that lets an old lady and a kid do all the heavy work without helping. She said that she would not marry her brother. Ha. So many leftovers for dinner...I can put my feet up the rest of the evening.

Been out clearing trees and brush off the road from the heavy snow. Yesterday we had freezing rain and right now it's 33 degs and raining. The road is a mess, pretty much impassable right now. Got the oil changed in the well pump generator earlier today. Still need to change oil in my truck, my Jeep, the side by side, snow blower and the tractor.
The wife and I had a good smoked prime rib and shrimp cocktail dinner yesterday. The kids couldn't make it down so it was just the two of us. My daughter's water pipes froze up yesterday. It's only been around -8 up where they live so I don't understand why it would freeze. They've had high winds, so maybe that was it.

First, (and I say that for a reason) the central heat/air unit has died and since we have water, I washed dog blankets. Apparently, the drainage pipe going from washer is frozen and the floor flooded. So, the floor is nice and clean now. That was 2. Waiting on #3. Kinda thinking the electric will go out, but hoping it will be something smaller. Sigh.
Merry Christmas anyway, since it has nothing to do with my little drama!
I pour 1/2 cup alcohol in discharge pipe of washer to avoid that trap from freezing. Same thing happened to me. Any time before we expect a 6 hour period below freezing.

Stayed at my parents house for Christmas. Got up and spent the morning with the family, had breakfast and since they have a television we like to watch FailArmy on YouTube to get a few good laughs. Dad and I went over to my place after a while and started burning a big brush pile in my yard and got a new tube in my tractor tire. Right now I'm back at their place and we are making burgers and fries!

Only -8? That would probably wipe out our entire state's population.

Yesterday I woke up early but waited until it warmed up to get out of bed. Got up and tried to dig up the pipe that broke off underground but my body wouldn't cooperate. Kept hitting what I thought was a paving stone (but was a full on cinderblock). Dropped Mom off at friend's house to watch the kids while I took friend to fix the pipes. Even he had a little trouble getting back up so he knew I wouldn't have been able to-- I would have fallen on more pipes. LOL. Had to scrounge for parts bc I got the wrong size (in my defense its 1" coming out of the jet pump and 1" going in to the pressure tank-- I didn't realize it reduced to 3/4" for the parts that broke). Only had enough parts (after scavenging from other derelict stuff) to connect the house water (leaving outside water cut off). Plan is to add a tee, another shutoff after that, and some PEX to the outside lines bc I don't care if the pex fittings reduce flow to outside stuff.

Went back to friend's house. Cartridge in his shower valve ruptured & blew apart. Water was spraying everywhere. I used the shower curtaion to try to direct water into the tub so it wasn't spraying on the floor as much. Friend got the access panel off and turned the shutoffs (which I insisted he install in case of emergency). Hope its covered under warranty. Got some food to make sure Mom had something to eat. Hung out for awhile & we stayed with the kids while friend went to pick up his new gf. Had to put on Geoff Castellucci music to calm the toddler. He finally said his first word-- "Dada". In the past he's sad it babbled over and over along with other strings of sounds. He was trying to sing along with some of the music. He responds more to singing than to talking. I wanted to let the pvc cement set so we waited a few hours before going home. Sister called while I was turning the water back on and making sure stuff worked. No leaks in the repairs! Yay! It was great hanging out with friend & his gf bc she's like a sister to us. His ex has been messaging her constantly though. He got woken up by her (new gf's) ex at 5am but didn't answer. She parked her vehicle in his driveway to get fixed.

Went over to bring my friend a replacement cartridge for the shower (I had the same trim sitting in a box). Helped him with repairs on the vehicle (mostly handing tools and taking him to the store so he could get stuff). Brake pads were nonexistent. Literally nothing but bare metal. Lug nuts were toast. GF's ex's brother worked at one of the stores so was asking about her & friend said he was working on her car. She got upset bc she doesn't want her ex to know where she is. Grabbed some more plumbing fittings & got some stuff from walmart. Cooked for mom when I got home, gave my brother food to take to work on his way out the door. Currently resting.

You can drain the water by drilling holes in the floor using a hole saw bit, then replace the hole after draining

House can be re piped with out going into walls

Abandon old plumbing and run all new cpvc. (Is cheap). Or pex (is easier)

Drill holes in cabinets outside the wall through the cabinet floor , use a straight stop instead of angled, same at the terlet
Drill a hole outside the wall install escthion and straight stop

Did very little yesterday only took care of the animals. I was exhausted from all the extra work for the holidays ( cleaning, cooking, plus dealing with the weather). I think I feel back to normal today and will take the dogs for a walk, finally after days of too cold

Animals are all going out today , the barn will be a mess. It is supposed to warm up to around freezing. What I am really dreading is when it is supposed to warm up to around 50 in a few days and rain. Everything in the barn will melt and stink and we will have to redo all the bedding. At this rate we will be out of straw before the babies get here....
And our wood shed looks scary empty already after the weather and constantly burning wood in 2 stoves for days

I will have to deal with my truck ( brake problem now) and do a shopping trip this week also

It's only 19 right now, but is supposed to get above freezing this afternoon. Which is good, because I'm tired of the dogs being closed up, having to be walked, and the coops and the milkhouse are getting smelly. Also tired of hauling hot water out to all the animals, but that won't change for awhile. Yesterday was my get back to normal day, and I kind of did. There always seems to be so much cooking, cleaning, and extra stuff, and then it's all over pretty quickly. Will be picking up our neighbor lady and her little one Brenda, the one that was sick, and taking them to a recheck doc appt and to Walmart late afternoon today. Other than that, I should go look in the greenhouses today, I'm sure the greens have frozen. Hoping for a thawed hose this afternoon so the geese can have a pool party. Fingers crossed.

Christmas gatherings have ended and I’m back into the normal routine.

On the way to town stop and retrieve the fence post driver I loaned out a few years ago.

Haircut.

Big box store for a new mailbox for a near future project.

Afternoon nap.

Walk down to get the mail if the highway department doesn’t hit the mailbox a third time this winter.

Setup Zoom link for this evenings meeting.

Routine chores, town run... work on thread later. Enjoying the slow warming trend, rain in the forecast for the rest of the week. Like Pearl, I'll be glad when this cold BS moves on and things warm up round here...

Edit: I noticed one of my pine trees is struggling, I think the cold temps really did a number on it... all the other pine trees have green needles, but this one is browned out and doesn't look so good. I gave it extra water yesterday, and with rain in the forecast, hopefully the tree will make a comeback.

It's not as bad as it looked when it was spraying all over the place last night, it pretty much drained out. odd thing I'm noticing, with one exception the Pex held, but the fittings exploded. I can't do anything about any of it until the 3rd anyway, and very little then. I'll be paying off my outstanding debts and shutting down unnecessary things like the internet and probably car insurance until it gets fixed or more likely replaced. Pity, I liked that hunk of junk, even if it was hell to work on.

I skived today. A girl on my course was on this side of the country so we met for breakfast in the next county. 3 hours of chat before we realised the waitress was giving us the evil eye as the lunchtime crowd queued. A little grocery top-up of milk, yoghurt and bread and then home to find husband and sons had cleaned down the yard- which is pretty fair amount of concrete- it gets green with the trees about and so much damp here. The place looks great when it's clean! Weather is mild but wet, if it's raining when I walk I may just have a duvet day and start my reading for next year- only five months left!

Since yesterday and today we've had almost 2 inches of rain and up to 43 degs overnight and windy. Very unusual for us to have temps above freezing in December. They have avalanche warnings posted now because of the wet heavy snow.
Due to the rain and heavy melting our road is impassable, probably for the next few days. Even had problems getting around with the tracks today. We had to cancel our doctor's appointment for tomorrow too.
