I don't work Fridays and Saturdays, so this is my weekend. Finally seeing sunshine today! Of course that means lots of outside work. Need to move a bunch of plants out to the greenhouse and do some up-potting. Need to clean the prunings of the wisteria that I just left in a pile in the garden area. Clean the gutter that leads to one of my rain barrels. Finish washing up some of the white wool fleece. That is a must--I purchased another fleece. The new one is also a Romney but Honeybear is silver, greys and browns.

Had planned on sleeping until I woke up naturally. Turns out that is one half hour later than artificially.

I made it to the camp… I live in the boonies, this place is behind the boonies, 1100 acres of forest. I wasn’t here 10min before I was approached by the director of the alabama folk school about teaching a few plant classes. I wouldn’t care if no students showed up as long as I could spend the time exploring the woods. 🤣

I got a room upgrade to a lodge instead of a bunkhouse, no charge. I have wifi in my room and a common kitchen I share with 3 other guests. My room is set up just like a two bed hotel room w/bath, even have a private porch.

Oh, 2 of my lodge mates are the ladies who teach the quilting classes. Another is the guy teaching the blacksmith classes. Funny, we arrived at the lodge about the same time. Everyone elses room had their name taped to the door. Since I was an upgrade mine just had a number. They said their names, I introduced myself as #5. 😁

I wish I could describe what the music in these photos sounds like. 23 people sitting around picking. Almost everyone of them has been on a stage, many are professionals. I’m in heaven! Incredible music...

Oh, couple more shots, one of the big dining hall, beautiful place. Had chicken alfredo and a nice salad.

Too funny, the people in my guitar class… 6 of us, 3 live in Tuscaloosa. After finding no local pickers for months… I find 4 this week. Just another reason I can here… networking!

23 pickers just sitting on the porch!!! I counted, 12 are professional musicians, and this isn't every one. At least another dozen pickers are at the camp but not picking tonight.

You are going to have a grand time!

First day off in two weeks, YAY!! Aiming at a day or two next week!! Taking Bear shopping!! Going to Tractor Supply for his food and another big farm and ranch store for Buddy's fly spray. Planting my seeds today (finally)!! Going to do some laundry and a few things around the house. Always a big list of things to do!! Hope everyone has a great Friday!!

Another great night (day) of sleep and a good day (night) of work. Work at Home Depot has become so much better since I completely realized management has no desire to fix any issues or problems that I "used to" point out so now I carefully do my work to the much lower standards of everyone else and management still thinks I am doing a good job. Pathetic work ethic but my stress is considerably lower and I am feeling better as each work (less) day passes.

For the past 4 or 5 months I heard hollow promise after hollow promise about corporate and district management coming to meet our overnight freight/receiving crew and listen to our concerns and suggestions but a couple weeks ago we were told Home Depot is making budgetary cuts and the district big shots were not gonna waste money to visit stores at night, only during the day so it could be a one day effort including travel so they wouldn't have to pay for a hotel room for the big wigs to spend a night and see the night side of the business. I actually won a bet with my supervisor because after many delays and excuses I told him they would never show up to meet with us and he was convinced they were going to show up and ask for opinions, ideas, and suggestions to make the freight/receiving process better. I won the bet but refused to ask for payment, it wasn't his fault they failed to keep their promise so I didn't want his $5.00.

I have some errands to run before work tonight so I will have to leave home a couple hours early. I get to stop at the credit union, the liquor store, and the gas station all before work, and if time permits the grocery store to buy a bunch of hot and ready chicken fingers from the deli to give me a few easy meals this weekend. GF heads out for a 3 day trip, coming home Sunday night so we shall see what trouble I can get into this weekend.
=-)

Thank you. I’m definitely going to try this. I kept diced/shredded chicken in freezer from Costco rotisserie chickens--think this will be a good recipe to use it in.
I used some chicken that I pressure canned 3 years ago. I added a can of mixed veggies on top of the chicken.
This lady's website has so many recipes that I use!

Windy & cold! At least for now... riding is out, think I'll do laundry and cut my hair, I noticed it's already getting "long" (anything over 1/8" on lower back & sides is long, lol). Possible town run later for more beer... beats going on Saturday morning. I wish the Dollar General near my home sold domestic beer (or any beer), but it doesn't... I know some do, I've seen beer coolers at certain DGs before. I reckon it varies by location, and some stores don't bother with the license.

Branson Forestry team going in for state competition this morning.

Oh boy, long day. Docs this morning, and husband got set up with a midline in his arm. So first infusion done. We didn't get back to our farm till this afternoon. So tomorrow, the crazy schedule starts for two weeks, every day. I have to get him to the hospital for infusions at 8am, 3pm, and 10pm. Hopefully his one working lung will then get better.
The prayers of Jim & I are with you and your husband.

I must've missed something, been off for a bit, AH I hope all is ok with your husband. You guys have been through enough.

I was off today and the wife didn't have a doctor's apt... ! So I was able to shift gears to doing outdoor work. We live on a corner and we have this old oak tree, the branches stick out about 20' into the road, as the branches have sagged over the years they have become a hazard for large trucks. So I purchased a cheap corded pole saw last fall and today I set to work. To reach high enough I ended up standing in the bed of the truck, anyway I spend the day cutting branches. I now have a stack of branches with a volume of about 5' high x 5' wide by 30' long. I only got slammed by a couple of falling branches but no real harm done. Tomorrow I plan to mow the lawn and work in the garden. Because the land fill is packed on the weekend I decided to take Monday off so I can spend the day delivering brush.

It does, doesn't it? Off we go again to the bigger town to the hospital. At night, we have to go in the ER entrance to a different room. Feel like taking a nap after the amish chalupa dinner I went to with little granddaughter. It was for the medical fund for a young man. Brought home a take out version for husband. Have the latest Steven C Smith book to start while I'm waiting for the infusion to finish.

Cfs caught up with me, had to walk out of this afternoon’s class. I crashed for an hour or so. Felt much better. At 4pm I sat in on Stephen Mougin’s vocal class (Sam Bush Band).

Then I took a little drive to a creek. It had all sorts of medicinal plants growing including yellow root. And a nice suspension/cable bridge... a bit bouncy though.

After dinner (grits, turnip greens and pork butt) I joined the big jam session. Only 16 pickers tonight… I have never sat and picked with this many talented people at once, a thrill!!

I played an hour or so then called it a night. A thunder storm blew in, temp dropped 15 degrees in about 15min. Lightening and a downpour. The building had a metal roof, I couldn’t hear anything but the rain.

More picking tomorrow...

Peanut, I am so glad that you are having a good time there... it looks awesome! Wish I were there to hear some real pickin', lol... and maybe wander through the woods as I've been known to do. Cheers!

Took it easy today, did some yard work and household chores, cut my hair, and wound up reading a good book by Elmer Kelton, that ol' boy sure writes fine novels. Manana, I start setting up to paint next week, lol...

Prayers for healing Amish
Glad you are having fun Peanut. Just take it easy and enjoy.
Finished with electricians interviews today. 2 of 3 were good interviews, but union rep wants for push for #3. I'm fighting that tooth and nail, but won't be my final call to make. Too much other stuff going on the keep up with.
Got home and grilled some steaks. Went out and finished loading the raised bed with compost. Ready to plant now. Got all my stuff put up and sat out on the porch with the wife for a while. Had a glass of brandy and smoked a good cigar. Nice way to finish off the week.

Glad you got to go back!! Looks like SO much fun!! LOVE the pictures!!

It's pouring outside, our market got rained out. Well, a few people will still set up but not us and not most. We'll wait till next Saturday
Still waiting on that one goat also, about to go check on her.
Did all the laundry yesterday since it was hot and dry , and it did all dry by evening
Debating if I should let the sheep out. Goats will definitely stay in, they won't want to go out. It's supposed to get cold tonight after 85 degrees yesterday so I might keep the sheep in so they don't get sick, but then we have to clean around them
I hope I have enough old blankets to cover the plants already growing in the garden if it freezes again

Sold the three rabbit cages I decided were not working for our rabbitry. I got a decent amount for them. Close to what I paid when they were on sale. Now I have space to get cages that are better for us.

More junk gone. I also broke down some shipping boxes to get them out of the house. I have been saving the brown packing paper and bubble wrap so we don't have to buy any when we pack up the kitchen.

Took a break to look at the rental market in East Texas. Not sure how I feel about it. We want to buy but seeing how we are in Cali right now buying sight unseen is not smart.

Trying to eat out of the pantry and freezer as much as we can so we don't have to can or dehydrate as much. I am trying to add to our LTFS instead.

Mowed yard for the 3rd time this season. Everything in the garden is up. Sprouted a few more sweet potato slips and added to finish out that row. Moved my onions to a better row and weeded that old row out. Still have 2 more rows of green beans to plant but can’t process all four rows so plan to stagger. Husband has pork on the pit. 2 shoulders and big chunk of boned meat off of sow he shot in February

Things haven't gone exactly as I had hoped at work. I couldn't get the boss to abolish my job, so I'm going to have to bid off to another position. There are some kind of weird things going on, but whatever. I'll put in some bids. There aren't many good positions available. My gang is also getting a new boss, who I've met and am not impressed with.

"Here's to the new boss, same as the old boss".

We'll see what happens...

Got kids playset finished, temporary pen set up for the jersey that I'm picking up tomorrow, dishes done, baked ravioli made, cinnamon rolls rising, trailer hitched, truck cleaned out for brother and his girlfriend who are riding along and chickies taken care of.
