My sister called and talked to Mom to encourage her to go to the doctor. She also suggested I get some cake frosting so that if Mom ever has low blood sugar and is unable to eat I can put some in her mouth.

Went to the post office and then to the store. Was going to pick up my RX but pharmacy was closed. Deli is still closed bc there is still a boil advisory. I grabbed some salads and other stuff for the day. Got home and one of the brand new salads was half rotten. Supposed to be good until next week but the lettuce was brown. I picked out the bad stuff and left the green stuff.

Generally felt cruddy and had to take a few naps throughout the day. Exhausted myself dragging in the 50lb stand for my miter saw. The stand arrived but miter saw is still held up somewhere in Georgia. Something else I ordered was not delivered due to weather. Fedex won't come out here when its raining.

I'm having to be careful not to squish cats when I get into bed. Had to make mac n cheese with sweet corn mixed in for Mom. She decided she only likes the mac n cheese with corn all bc the other day I got some mac n cheese and corn at Golden Corral & they got mixed together on the plate and I commented on how good it tasted. LOL.

Gonna try to get some sleep tonight and hopefully be more productive tomorrow. Friday I'm going to try to get my blood taken for my appointment next week.

@Amish Heart your statement that they told you staff is not used to family checking in was a tad concerning to me (on multiple levels). Sad to me to think that people just dump there relatives in those places like an unwanted lamp. I know that some require care that a lot of folks can't handle themselves, but, like you are now, should be an advocate for the resident.

Can you stop by "unexpectedly" to check on mom at say lunchtime to make sure she's in the dining room or during activity time. If you are able and she's not where she should be doing those things, I'd make a fuss about paying for those services and not receiving them.

Looking at the weather, supposed to rain all day Saturday again. So I am debating on how much bread to bake for the market. We are going ( unless it's cancelled if thunderstorming) but I don't want to end up with a ton of unsold bread. There is not much room in the freezers right now

We finally put all the goats together yesterday in the pasture. The last mom and babies also. They did ok but we had to chase all 4 of them when we moved everyone back across the road into the barn for the night. They didn't know where to go and didn't keep up with the herd.

Trying a new bread, Swedish rye. I am baking it today for us to try the recipe.

Son is finally done with finals , did well on 3, one, the computer programming class he hated, he doesn't know yet, but says the final was hard . So he is going to help today to see what he has to do when we are not here

Yep, that's what I do. My favorite time to arrive is around 11:00. Then around 11:45, I wheel her in to the dining room and ignore their styrofoam take out box at the little table. Lately, though, the best I can do is once a week, with husband's health stuff going on. I always find her outside the nurse's station. But they don't know I have a hard time getting over there, so that's good. The assisted living section of this place was so great, I'm having a hard time with this. And they keep that lift belt on her all the time. I just took that off yesterday, that's just rude.

I guess none of them think, " gee, that could be me someday", and treat the residents like they would want to be treated!!

@Amish Heart , I don't think I can ever let my DH go to a nursing home. I already do care at home. With a tiny bit of help, he could stay at home unless he is in hospital.
I took my portable background, lights and glamour accessories to nursing homes when I had my photography business. It was fun, uplifting and sad at the same time. Sigh
Today, I will walk first.
Walk dogs.
Grill pork steaks.
Bible study tonight.
I'm thankful for a halfway relaxing day!

I had planned on painting today, but I've been watering and knocking out chores for the past few hours, and I still have a laundry load in progress, so maybe I'll wait until tomorrow to finish the bathrooms. My feet are already a bit tired as well, I've been on 'em for 4 hours, lol... they're not as tough as they once used to be. Like Peanut, I've learned the value of rest, so I reckon I'll give myself the day off from painting and see to it manana. It's okay, I've made excellent progress in both bathrooms, and I'm still within my 2-week deadline, lol... if necessary, I have all weekend to finish the project. 😒

I must say that watering is quality time here at the ol' hacienda, with flowers going off, butterflies cruising around, hummers zooming to and fro... it's a regular paradise in the yard. I like the sound of the bees as they hit all these flowers, it's very calming... I'm not the kind to get wigged out about bees in my yard, I like 'em here and they perform a service with their cross-pollination. I usually get along alright with 'em too, like they know I'm there to help by watering the plants and refilling the birdbaths. Same goes for the wild birds, some of 'em are like pets, waiting for me to get the job done, lol.

Today's funny... We had a panic today.
I was awakened from my noon nap by my wife shrieking:
"HAY SUPER! WE'VE GOT A SNAKE IN THE HOUSE!!!" gaah
I put on my shoes and race into the kitchen thinking... which gun can I shoot in the house.
She is sitting up on the countertop, pointing at the fridge.
On the floor by the fridge is baby garter-snake, maybe 6" long.
I look at her and say: "That's it?:dunno:". She was dismayed:confused:.
I get a paper towel, pick it up, and unceremoniously toss it into the back yard.
I'm her hero!!!
:huggs:

I like Mrs. Super 😁 Hubby will torment rattlers etc. but I don't like things without legs! I've learned not to panic, but my heart still does that racey thing when I see one. It's taken me a long time to get this far.

Next time I pick up a snake and tease Mr.Pearl, I will be sure to call him Mrs. Super!!😂

Am pooped. Animal chores, husband's doc appt, got lunch and ate it in the car with him, Tractor Supply, Walmart. Back home now, and downing this coffee before I unload 350lbs of feed. Grade school graduation for 8th graders is tonight, and little granddaughter's class will be singing for them, so we'll be going to that this evening. So dinner early, and husband will try to rest while we're gone.

I'm drained and exhausted. Funeral was this morning. I'm broken. To make matters worse one of his sisters hates and resents me. She's been awful to me, was awful him in the months leading up to his death as well. Had to hurry and get a few more things out of his house and the puppies because I don't know if I'll be allowed back, despite his mom saying I'll always be welcome. I got the 2 most important things and then a bunch of other random things. Nothing of real monetary value, more sentimental stuff that none of them would care about.

That's a big step completed ABR. Take a deep breath. Sleep, and wake up to a new day tomorrow 💕

Will you have to see her again?

I got an old John Deere lawn tractor yesterday and tested it out on The South Forty. It did a good job but needs some tender loving care. Backing up is not its speciality. I may end up changing all of the tires if my brother agrees it is worth the expense.

I am close to finishing the initial weeding of the strawberries. After that I should work on my pest prevention efforts. The new galvanized raised beds need a cage to prevent the pests from damaging them. I have rainy days ahead of me to devise them.

Doin somethin every day.

Which model of John Deere mower is it? Some of them are damn near unkillable...

Don't think so. I'm just worried about her poisoning his mom against me while she's vulnerable. Why I took the puppies today even though his mom said I didn't need to. I wouldn't put it past that sister to come in and decide to "help" by getting rid of them.
Good. The puppies may help you more than you help them. Stay in touch with his mom since you both have experienced a loss.

Stay busy!

I was planning to take them anyways, just in a couple weeks after I had a spot for them ready. They were our babies together and I know that he would want me to have them. I will try to keep in touch via text and maybe few visits in the future. We were the ones who knew him best and loved him the most.

@Neb Here's some info on your lawn tractor. Looks like it's a mid 2000s tractor

I'm not totally sure but it looks like a model that was made to sell at the big stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. It has a stamped deck and a Briggs motor so it's not quite as heavy duty as the mowers like the Deere 425, but they're still good serviceable mowers. If it works, it's a good find...

Going to go visit mom around lunchtime, and hoping she's not just sitting in the wheelchair near the nurses station. Have a meeting with the nursing home folks at 1:30. To discuss: why is mom in a wheelchair, when he ortho doc said to get back on her walker a month ago? Because of this, we have another return appt next month with him. Why did the nurse fax her doc and have her put on an antianxiety and a bipolar med and dope her up terribly, and completely ignore the fact that I have medical POA? And why isn't mom brought to the dining room for meals to eat with her brother and other people she knows, instead, just eating alone in a wheelchair outside the nurses station? And why are they not taking her to the activity du jour: the Bible study, the craft making, getting her nails done....hair done every week. And why has she lost 12 lbs in the two months she's been there? This will not be a fun meeting. I have complained about all of these things already and nothing's been done. Just got a bill for one of her regular meds from a pharmacy in Wichita. She doesn't use a pharmacy in Wichita, she uses a small local one. And the local one fills her meds and blister packs them and delivers them to the manor every single month. The Wichita pharmacy says the manor called it in. WTH? The moral of this story is don't go to a nursing home. They will kill you quicker. Which makes no sense, because she's paying $9K a month for care, and $4K a month is billed to medicare for therapy. Instead, be like the Golden Girls and find a group of oldsters to live with and help each other.
This is a sad state of affairs.

There are people who never or rarely get visitors in nursing homes. I have seen enough Find a Grave memorials that state: no next of kin, to know that some people don't have family close, still alive, or who care, who can visit them.
