Today we are on a mission of mercy. Visiting a dear friend who is recuperating from shoulder replacement surgery. He is at home so we will order pizza and bring beer. A good time will be had by all while we solve all the problems of the world. It is amazing how much smarter we get after consuming great amounts of alcohol. :drink buddy:

@gloryroad56 not every evening, yes, last night. Yes, spectrum. They sent me an email which I couldn’t receive until after it reconnected, telling me it was down and when it would be reconnected. Didn’t last long really. But in the late spring it was doing that a lot.
Recently Church building was totally messed up by faulty sprinkler system. Will be traveling for church for a few months. Friends came by and on their way out offered to eliminate part of my security system (wasp nest). So that was taken care of without poison. Yay.
@zannej sorry you felt bad.
@winds-of-change those are crazy stats! Glad he finished safely enough.
Cleaned this a.m.
@LadyLocust I’m thinking about stopping by for blackberry cobbler.
It's still warm and cooling on the table. Come on over 😋

It's too windy to take the boat out today. So we started putting up the new roof over the back deck. I think it's going to be 12'×40'. Once it's finished I'm going to add another 8' to the deck. I already have all the framing lumber for the deck extension, but I'll have to buy the redwood decking. May have to sell a couple kidneys to pay for the redwood.
The granddaughter was in the barn with her horse today when she saw a rattlesnake in the stall. By the time I got out there the snake had gone under the barn floor. Over the years I've killed several rattlers in the barn. Our last dog was bit behind the barn.
High temp was 85 degs today. Not too bad.

105 degrees in the bigger town when I went to get feed, chicken wire, and a Dollar Tree run. 100 degrees here at home, we don't have the pavement, and we have trees. Still too hot to unload all the feed, so I'll do it after dinner. A sister that I haven't seen in years is coming in tomorrow night, we'll have to get her from the airport. She is a princess and does not do farms, so this will be interesting. She does do coffee on the porch in the morning, and breakfast in bed. Oh well. I don't have time for that right now. I doubt that she'll help with morning chores like the other sis did. Bets the horse took a piece of apple from me this morning. It's our neighbor's buggy horse, and is living on the other side of the milkhouse for all the free grass, at the moment. She's a cutie. She was cautious, though, so I'll see if she's waiting for more tomorrow morning.

The granddaughter is out riding her horse again. She named him Henry. From what I understand is, this horse has never been riden by anyone since the old rancher broke him years ago. He spent his whole life out on range land with the cattle.
Henry let's the girl climb all over and under him and he follows her everywhere. They have really bonded. The tar weed is bad this year so the girl spends a lot of time brushing the tar out his mane and tail.

I hope you can recover your road quickly, Sonya!
Thanks, we worked on it all day and part of it is done. I really will take photos when I get a chance. Dont carry my phone around with me. We increased the size of the drainage pond we made next to the road and did maintenance on it. This will make the runoff from the barn go off the road and not wash it out . We added a small drainage area at the end of our property. So our section of road should be ok but the neighbor's further down is the worst part. It has pasture on both sides and no room to do anything and is very steep. We keep adding gravel and it just washes away . The neighbor doesn't care, he doesnt drive on it ( his house is below and he is Amish so no vehicle)
Got nothing else done today :(

Finally got my finger hacked off today, my peace sign is a little jacked up now. 🤣🤣🤣

Our road washes out every spring. I've got almost 3 miles of road to maintain between the house, pump house, where we feed and the county road. Most years I put down 20 - 30 dump truck loads of gravel. I started building water bars to divert the water off the road. It helps somewhat. Can you make water bars on your road to help with the runoff? They are kind of a pain to drive over but the alternative is losing thousands of dollars worth of gravel.

yes, we have "speed bumps" to direct the flow to the drainage pond. But when we moved our compost pile, the drainage got messed up and with the absolute downpour last night it got bad
We only got 1 dump truck load of gravel since we moved here, so not as bad as yours I suppose ( it's shorter)

@hashbrown you look pain free in the pic. Hate you had to lose it. Hopefully your hand will feel a bit better now. Don't know how you slept with it at night.

More major house keeping today, cleaning out every place a fruit fly might hide. They are horrible.

Oh, found a new way to kill them. I noticed they like to land on things white in color. Paper towels, paper plates, anything white.

Last night I put my observation to the test. Right after dark I ran both sinks full in the kitchen. Using lots of soap, big mound of suds... I turned off the lights in the kitchen except the one above the sink.

During the night the fruit flys would land on the suds and get stuck. By midnight there were a dozen dead ones, little black dots on the suds.

Gonna set my trap again tonight. :) Best part, I can soak dirty dishes at the same time... two birds!

Hashbrown, glad you're doing OK.

The simit looks delicious! Alas, I'm supposed to cut back on carbs.

Had a checkup today. Down to 199lbs. Everything but my A1c and sugars are good. Need to cut back on sugars and take more Metformin. I produce a good amount of insulin but I don't absorb it properly. It's part of why I have so many skin tags. Insulin resistance can cause skin tags to form. Doctor said in winter he can take the skin tags off for free. Next appointment is in November.

Got my motherboard from UPS. Waiting on the case. Amazon shows it on the way but USPS has no info on it as its been passed through Amazon facilities. It's currently at the dreaded Humble TX one that has lost numerous packages of mine.

A funny: A few years ago we made broth from the carcass of a bear we got. Had it in my cauldron- told Hubby I wanted to do pints since that’s primarily what I use of broth. After however many pints I could fit in one canner, I grabbed the quart jars! Qts are definitely easier.
Ended up with 21 q and 16 pints.
Didn’t fill jars full to avoid peas having to be dug out with spoon to use. They are loose in juice! No broken jars. Success
Shelf is full

Good morning, H&CL! Today is the first day of my 7 days off. I have no real plans until later in the day when my daughter comes over. Yesterday was her birthday so I think maybe we will go out this evening, maybe to a movie. Tomorrow we will go shopping, because apparently dad can't be trusted to buy the right things for her birthday if he does it himself!🤣

But first, a trip to the coffee shop is in order...

Took advantage of an overcast morning to give the trees & plants extra water... might make a difference after that small weekend reprieve we had from the heat, which is ramping up again this week. Gotta make another town run today to buy beer and exchange library books. I went through a stack of Westerns during that heat wave, gonna need more books for the second month of high heat looming ahead. Hey, free entertainment! In this hot weather, I don't really feel like going anywhere, I'd rather chillax in the A/C, yeah? And I can only watch so much TV, even if I'm only watching old Westerns & action films... I don't watch any modern programming, it's all stinking globalist propaganda. The dirty swine... 😒

I had a very restless night. Replaced the tubing, mask and head gear in my CPAP. It takes a bit to adjust the mask properly and the tubing was rigid and had a mind of its own and kept coiling around me. The dogs kept pacing around and we have all laminate floors so their nails clicking was driving me nuts. I didn’t get up until 9:30 or so. Today will definitely be a napping sort of day.
