Walked first.
Went to bank and paid off house. Yay!
Local grocery.
Handyman came over to see what all we need done.
Still have to prep meat and veggies for making dog food this afternoon. It will cook overnight and get pressure canned tomorrow.
Congrats on paying off the house!!!!

I winterized the camp trailer.
I bought 2 gallons of RV antifreeze thinking that would be plenty.
I followed the owners manual and the first gallon was sucked up in seconds. I thought that was wierd.
I got the second gallon and the same thing happened.
Called the dealer and he said it sometimes takes 3 gallons or more. That seemed like a lot but I went back and bought a 2.5 gallon box of RV antifreeze.
This time I did get pink antifreeze at the kitchen sink but I still emptied that box fast.
My wife came in the camper and said do you know there is pink water running out the bottom of the trailer?
NO! I didn't know that.
I had opened the low point drain when we left the campground on Thursday and forgot I did that.
I pumped $20 of RV antifreeze out on the ground.
Back to the store for another 2.5 gallon box and now the RV it winterized.

That was just a brush-off (even though it was a couple of inches), no scraping of frost or ice required, so also easy to do.

I use my leaf blower to do that.

I am sure I have done worse but I'd be darned if I could remember what.

I winterized ours today as well. I bought 3 gallons. it only took 1 and I poured a quart in the blackwater tank. Cut and hauled more brush to the burn pile. Mowed the yard to chop up the leaves.

Friends came over this morning. We picked up 3g of pecans and 5g of walnuts. Then we dug up a couple of pecan sprouts and one walnut. She’ll set them out on her farm. It’s difficult to tell the difference between a pecan and walnut sprout when they are little. Maybe we go it right.

Her milk cow is still on the mend but it’s slow. There was a big improvement the first few days using garlic and cedar then healing slowed. My friend has to build another pen. The ground is damp where the cows are now, not helpful with a staff infection.

It’s going to be musical pastures, the 2 milk cows and lambs get a new one. The pigs get moved to the damp area by the creek. The chickens will get a rebuilt pig pen. The chicken pen will get planted with fall onions and garlic. Oh, my friend dropped off a few pounds of sausage and chops from the last hog, yum!

I made walnut tincture last fall, 2 quarts. I can’t find it!!! I’ve looked everywhere, annoying. If I can’t find my tinctures in the morning I’ll have to make more. There are plenty of walnuts on the ground now so it won’t be a problem.

Funny, told my friend how to tap walnut trees to make syrup. Now she wants to come tap my trees and make some... And... she mentioned her chicken coop had been invaded by mites. I told her i use walnut leaves, work like a charm!!! Most insects hate walnut leaves. She'd run out of time... had to go or we'd have harvested some. Walnut trees are handy!!! :)

Look up using a small air compressor to blow the water out of the lines. You open all the faucets and attach the air compressor using the appropriate fitting to where the hose goes in the trailer. While the air is blowing you close all but one faucet valve and let it gurgle until water stops coming out then open the next one and close the first one. Continue this until all the faucets have been drained, including any outside hoses/faucets/drain points. Start at the highest one, probably the shower, then the sinks, then the toilet, the the water heater (removing the drain plug on the outside), then the low drain points below the floor.

You may still want to pour some antifreeze into the drains but you wont need to waste it each year in the water lines.

Dang the wind is cold tonight, but not as cold as it was this morning. At least the animal water is not frozen like it was this morning. It's supposed to warm up tomorrow and maybe temps in the low 70's in a couple days.

I took the GF's kids out to a birthday dinner for the youngest, she turns 16 on Halloween. They actually invited me to join them but I told the waiter to give me the bill. Texas Roadhouse, $160 including the 20% tip for 6 people was pretty reasonable, I thought. GF said gramma is doing good and should be moved out of ICU tomorrow, but gramma wont enjoy sharing a room so she is not looking forward to being moved.

walking the forest this afternoon....over 5ft oak tree

Regular Monday work day!! The rain has stopped, but still wet (and cold) outside. When I took Bear out earlier, the three outside cats were ready to eat. Buddy didn't holler so he is holed up in his shed, he doesn't like cold weather! Need to stop by the grocery store for a few things before I head home later. Hard freeze tonight (20's) so there are few extra things to do to get ready for that!!

It's still dark out but looks like it'll be a nice sunny day today. It's 20 degs out right now. I've got an appointment with the physical therapist this morning to work on my back pain.
I guess I'll fill out the census form this morning and mail it off. They keep sending threatening letters every few days. Of course I'm not going to provide them with any financial information or anything else that I consider too personal.
I still have some hay to put in the barn when we get home. After that I'll climb on the roof of my fur shed and clean the chimney and install a brace.

Yesterday was a regular Church and dog walk day. Rested some. I've been flipping back and forth between 3.5 hours of sleep and 8 hours. I have no sugar or caffeine after 1 pm, so it's not that. Just my system. LOL

This morning, will take DH to VA clinic for bloodwork.
Then Walmart for 2 items, Dollar General for 1 item and thrift shop.
Will walk when I get home.
This afternoon, will pressure can the roast cooked a couple of days ago. Half with bbq sauce and half with taco seasoning.
You all have a good week!

what is that for and how do you make it? We have so many laying around and I have yet to find a use for them. They taste terrible

almost done with cold weather prep
still need to go find more sticks for starting fires
have a pile of old boxes to burn but been waiting for some rain coming to do it so we don't catch anythign else on fire since it's been so dry. It is supposed to rain some this afternoon so today we will do that
have to figure out where everyone goes in the cold weather tonight and tomorrow night. We have 4 groups of goats, 2 groups of sheep and 2 dogs that need to go inside somewhere
The barn has 4 areas , and we have one old house the goat bucks usually live in when the weather is bad but right now they are with the does we are breeding, so we are short 1 area. I guess we need to split them back up and put the 2 bucks in their house and combine the goats , but huge hassle and the bucks will fight. Or we could put one group in the living room....j/k

@sonya123 when I was a kid (child I mean) in Virginia we knew a family that allowed their two goats inside the house. We didn't associate with them much, Dad wouldn't allow it, they were Russians and supposedly practiced witchcraft. I don't think that was true, but it was also rumored that the mom was a former spy, there was no dad in the picture. Mom would let sis go there unbeknownst to Dad.
Black walnuts are high on the list of must haves for herbalists. I've used black walnut tincture on my one son's plantar's warts. Used dried leaf or ground hull in mixture with other herbs in a salve for sore, aching tendons, ligaments. I know there are other uses.
Nice photos @Hooch
@Mountain trapper hope your back gets better. The census information is kept confidential and it was random that you were chosen to participate. This is still part of the 2020 census. You can look it up at census dot gov.

It's a Bank Holiday here, and it's the yuckiest, wettest one ever. Normally we decorate outside for the local children, husband has bad lots of props over the years from pallets, and we have an old mannequin or two we dress up also, but theres no point. The ground squelches when you walk on it; and we are due another storm on Wed/Thursday- though it's meant to rain until then anyway. Spent yesterday in the city, picked up a few Christmas bits and spent a lovely hour in the sale section of a bookshop :D Made a big roast dinner, the leftovers will do another one, and have began knitting a few baby items for my daughter's friends baby. She's the first in the group to start a family and a die-hard rock/metal fan, so I get to knit baby things in black with skulls on!

Fed kitties, did some minor cleaning, and have been waiting on my friend to be available to work on my computer.
Fixed a problem with Mom's computer.

Friend's ex was supposed to pick her kid up last night but didn't and then was supposed to pick him up this morning. It's almost 3:40pm and she still hasn't picked him up. Now its raining and I need to wait for it to stop so I can safely carry computers to the vehicle.

Still need to pick up Mom's RX bc pharmacy is now closed on Sundays.

Sprinklers are blown out for the winter, moved the snowblower to where we could use it because snow’s due tomorrow night.

Hit the Y and worked out — they have one of those eGym circuits and I like that pretty well, I desperately need some strength training.

Made baked pasta for lunch and now understand why people keep jarred sauce in the pantry rather than making it from scratch every time. It was kind of an impulse decision. I think I’ll plan to put some up when I get a chance.

Not sure what I’m doing this afternoon. Maybe busting out my old NaNo piece and seeing about knocking the rust off of it. (I don’t usually do NaNo, what red-blooded American has time to write during Thanksgiving and Christmas months? 😜 ) What I had down feels pretty good so maybe I’ll see if I can actually turn it into something.
What is NaNo?
I'm fighting a ferocious cold. It's in my ears and eyes now, and I have a completely dry cough that comes from way down deep in my lungs. My ribs and core muscles are sore from the coughing, my left ear has fluid built up in it, and my right eye is sticky and bloodshot as hell. I would've sworn it was covid, but I've had three negative tests. I'm taking OTC stuff to get my ears to drain, and prescribed antibiotic drops for my eye...
Sewingcreations15 once said, hang yourself over the side of the bed so all the blood runs to your head. Gravity will help pull the crud from your lungs and help drain your sinuses. Get well soon.

Need to finish putting hay in the barn before we get more snow. I have a hydraulic fitting to replace on the tractor, then I can pull the disk out of the field and park it up by the barn. I brought the spreader up last night and one of the pasture drags. I'll bring up the other pasture drag today. Also need to clean the chimney on the fur shed today and put a brace on the roof to keep the snow from pushing the chimney over.
First thing this morning I'll split some firewood.
Oh yeah, I need to start changing oil in just about everything around here. I've already got almost 50 gallons of used oil to dispose of, in the burn piles.
If you are just going to burn it, you might see if Luke would like it for quenching.
The wife had to go in for extra work for the last couple of days, and a few more going forward, to cover for a coworker that needed surgery. Evening shift, so I've been home alone. I thought I'd watch a few movies - something I haven't done in quite a while. So I started searching Amazon Prime.

Last night I watched The Philadelphia Experiment. Not the original one from the 80's. Nor the sequel from some time after that. This was the third one, made in 2012. It started off very weak. And then I think the writers must have gone on strike about halfway through the movie. The script must have been finished up by the custodial staff. Skip it. It represents 90 minutes of my life that I'll never get back.

Tonight I fell for something that I knew would be bad, but I got suckered in. Godzilla vs. Kong. The special effects were good. The best part of the movie. If you like seeing apes fight lizards, this is the film for you. If you are a logical person, your head will explode. You have to suspend your disbelief (obvious from the start, just knowing what the plot is). I never knew that you could defibrillate an ape by using a space ship - you learn something new every day. And the center of the Earth? It's quite tropical, nowhere near as hot as we've been lead to expect.

A couple of nights back I watched A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part 2. I got them on DVD from our local library. These two were quite suspenseful. Blind aliens that hunt humans using super hearing. The plot holes and stupidity of some of the things that happened was astonishing. These movies would be fun to watch with friends, after a beer or two, with running commentary laughing at all the illogical things you see on screen. I won't spoil anything, but when you see all the electrical power that this family has post-apocalypse (they have acres and acres of lights around the place), and then they go down to their safety bunker - and it is lit by candles - you have to wonder. Couldn't they have bothered to run an extension cord down there for a proper light bub? But still, these two movies were kind of fun to watch. Again, suspend your disbelief. Allow yourself to get into the spirit of the movies. And try not to laugh. They're not supposed to be comedies. But that's half the fun. So watch them a second time with friends and have a hoot commenting on the illogical stuff. Like, these invincible aliens were actually kind of easy to kill, once you got the hang of it. Surprising that they were able to overrun all the militaries of the world with nobody being able to figure out the easy kill method. But this bit of illogic is standard fare for just about every alien movie out there. The aliens run berserk killing everything in front of them. And then it starts raining or something. And they all die.

I've got three more nights of the wife being gone at work, so I have to figure out what to watch next...
We know how you love those Hallmark movies ;) 😂

Well I am sort of a witch :) ( pagan)
I do have goat kids inside sometimes if they are sick, but usually just babies and they go in the dog crate
We figured it out. Put ram lamm in a stall with 1 ewe sheep. Put the rest of the sheep together. Put 1 buck with his girls in the goat house, and the other one in one area of the barn.
It is raining thankfully. Just read some news that there are some actual wildfires about 20-30 miles east of us. Wow, that is unusual. So just when you think you are safe from fire, you find out you are really not
So crappy day and I just baked some experiment cookies, oatmeal, banana and walnut, turned out really good

We did that Thurs. evening after work - it froze that night and each night since. Mid 20s but no precip.

Do you drink drinks with cinnamon in them?

Learned something yesterday,i had a plant and herpetologist specialist with me out while woodsbumming. He showed me a putty root orchid.

Good find... I've never seen it here, only reported in one county of my state. Funny, it looks a lot like a couple different plants I do see. Surprising this is a medicine, not many orchids are.

Trip to town for a few groceries, gonna cook a roast this week.

What is NaNo?
National Novel Writing Month — usually November. The idea is that you plunk yourself down in front of your keyboard / typewriter / what have you and generate ~1500 words a day, with the goal being a 50,000 word novel (approximately 300 pages) at the end of the month.

I have too many commitments in November and December but did manage ~49 pages when I did tackle it the first time. Writer’s block and the appearance of a second story related-but-not-part-of-the-first stymied some of my progress.

I like what I have, though, so I’m thinking about revisiting it during a less-crazy time period.

That would require copious amounts of caffeine!
