This morning the wife had her eye surgery, they said it went well but she is grumpy... the eye drops every 4 hours don't make her any happier... I need to get her one on those cone collars.....
Did she have cataract removal and lens replacement?
I endured the drops every 4 hours for a month also.
It was life-changing!
They can't show you what you aren't seeing, until they fix one eye.
...Then you are stomping your feet to get the other one done. gaah

May God grant you the patience to help her in a troublesome period.

I got back at earning my keep in a few areas of interests.

Greenhouse watered and started logging hi/lo temp readings and the delta between lows. I added plastic over the windows a while back. I can compare the performance with last year's numbers.

Since I don't see any plumbing in the near future, I moved my cache of fittings and tools to there correct location in my shop.

Unwrapped the components that will be used to install the outside outlet for the generator. Figured out the cable will fit through the conduit but NOT the seal-tite fittings. Bummer. Plan B: strip outer casing because conductors will be running in conduit. I configured a junction box for clamp to Seal-Tite conduit and secured it to the wall. Nuff of that for today since it was raining.

Out to the shop to cut up old copper pipe assemblies. They were added to my copper bucket to serve as casting fodder.

Then I looked at a rather nice lantern The Princess found at a garage sale.

Sadly lacking a charger. I sorted through a box of wall warts but could only find a 5v DC that would plug in. The charging lights up ( see above). But it doesn't want to work. Bulb reads just under an ohm. No voltage to the light bulb. Battery reads 6.7 colts and is rated for 6v. At this point it may be:

A) bad switch or transistor feeding the bulb

Or

B) The Princess wants me to convert it to LED.

Yes I know, too many details.

There is always something to do.

Sea story

When I first bought my place I devised a plan of attack. I formalized it and handed my buddy the outline. He looked at it then handed it back saying " Tear it down, build another".

Got a late start. Friend's ex didn't come to get her kid until after 3:30pm. I hurt myself loading up my old cat-pee in infused PC. It was really gross. Wrapped it in a moving blanket and brought along gloves for my friend to wear when handling it. SSDs were in good shape. One of the bluray players looked rusted and would not pop open-- I'm fairly certain there is a DVD inside but even using a paper clip I couldn't get it to pop open. Newer bluray player drive was fine and got put in. I cleaned the cables and had 2 more unopened ones so everything got hooked up. Then we tested to make sure it worked. Got friend some food and we headed back here. It was dark so he had to use a head flashlight. Got the shelf mounted, support brackets on. Clips to put on the walls for bungee straps to hold the computer on. And got the plastic litter splash guards put up on the computer to keep cats off of it. Will take pictures in daylight. Too dark right now.

Took friend to Walmart after to get a jacket and some thermal pants/shirt for his daughter. She outgrew a lot of her clothes.

Got home and brought in a 25lb bag of cat food for the kitties & fed them.

Back hurts & I'm tired so I will be going to sleep shortly.

It's cold, just started a fire in the stove.

Happy Halloween!
We will be really busy today, have to move animals back out , then back in after lunch since we have to take son's dog to vet for rabies shot since he has no time right now , have to go to post office too
barn will need cleaning plus lunch to make
the appointment at vet is late so we need to put up animals first, hard freeze tonight, I will cover up the remaining plants in garden

This morning we are heading over to my grandma's old house (Who passed away in Jan. 2022). Life has been crazy and my family can't make a darn decision, for their life. Anyway, Eric and I are going to get their dining room set! I'm really excited. We bought this house 4 years ago, and this room has been the "Catch all room" well, second catch all room. I totally need the whole set for storage for all of our canning and other kitchen supplies. I think my mom may have fainted a bit when i said I'd be putting my empty jars in the china cabinet. Sorry.... but when the world is going to ****, who needs china? Just our thought!

Anyway, dining room furniture pick-up this morning. Then when we get home we are planning on actually turning on the pellet stove (35 degrees right now and we haven't turned heat on since we heat with oil and the prices are getting high). Then we will read some more of the Long WInter by Laura Ingalls Wilder to the family. Eric is always the reader and we honestly enjoy this family time, even our two teenagers. (This may or may not be our third time reading this specific book to the family).

We also have normal animal chores, hehe. I have to go talk to my naughty chickens. We had to make some modifications on the run so they would stop getting out and going to lay elsewhere now that I have a store buying our eggs!

Well, that would make her really grumpy. Did they give her eye shields? I have to tape on husband's before bed, and add the nose strip, and the bipap mask...it's a pain. He's still on eyedrops.
Yes, She will have to wear them at night for a month. The tape hurts her skin. She goes to sleep early and I had to wake her to put the last set of drops in her eyes last night. I think I heard her growl at me... I am thinking that a set of shooting glasses might be a better solution but with her CPAP mask I don't know how that will work either.

They did lenses, both eyes. I saw the schedule, drops every 4 hours for a month (3 different drops 5 minutes apart every 4 hours). She did sleep last night for the first time in a week.. I am thankful for that.

She is usually a late sleeper (9-10am), but the first drops start at 08:30 so I will go and start her day on a good note (meaning I'll really tick her off...) We go back for the follow up appointment late this afternoon, this should place us driving home just as the goblins are out.

I'm still working on my lighting project, I ran out of fixtures and ordered more.
I have a hot water pipe that wants to freeze each winter. It runs for 8 feet along the sill before going up into the kitchen. I placed a plastic barrier along the exterior basement in an attempt to slow the cold air movement. I plan to install some heating tape to that pipe, but I want to get that done before I finish doing the lighting in that area.
I find it funny that it's the hot water pipe that wants to freeze but it is the one closest to the exterior wall.

I "took" 2 days leave to take care of the wife's eye thing, but I found myself working and responding to requests for help several times yesterday. Growing up in a family owned business, I just never got the whole leave, personal time, or vacation thing nailed down. ;) I have to wonder what will happen when/if I actually retire...

It's not possible to do the glasses and the bipap mask. Ha. I'm using paper tape for the plastic eye guards, it works ok. But have noticed that the bipap is getting bumped at night, because he's been snoring and waking me up alot. Normally he doesn't snore with the bipap. We go in for a recheck on Thursday. Then next Tues is the other eye with the next day being the next recheck. It's like three doc visits per eye.
Tonight we're making our own pizzas for dinner, a little earlier, and little granddaughter has invited neighbor Levi over, and maybe his sister if she is not busy. Little granddaughter is dressing up as David Bowie she says (I'm thinking the face paint part), and they are going to watch something kinda scarey, but not too scarey. And I have a very big bag of candy to pass around.
I would normally go visit mom today, but covid is going around there again. Maybe tomorrow. Animal chores are going to take forever again today, hoses are frozen, and they temp won't be up till late afternoon. So I'll be hauling water from the hydrants using jugs and buckets.

That's a good old book!! Great idea with the China cabinet!!

Well, that doesn't sound like fun!
I'll have to cover my aloe vera plants that are on the front porch in containers, but hopefully that's it.

We have some workman here replacing our central ac/heating unit today.
I walked.
Laundry is almost done.
Made some phone calls and ordered flat rate envelopes for ebay.
I should walk the dogs later, but have to wait until the fellows are done with unit.

no. None that I can think of.
There are other stimulants than coffee, cinnamon being one. Also eating cheese in the evening can cause nightmares. If you are having disturbing dreams which are causing you to wake and eating lots of cheese . . . otherwise, any meds with being awake as a side effect???
Oh a funny note: Hubby has been having cheese and crackers with his hot sauce in the evenings. He's been having nightmares but doesn't care. He wants his hot sauce ๐Ÿ˜‚

That's great!
If she needed them as bad as I did, have her go outside and look at something distant.
The difference for me was dramatic!:woo hoo:

Someone hacked our business credit card. Spent over $1600 on limo services, over $600 at Pottery Barn Kids plus a few more. Luckily, I look at it every week to every-other week so they did all this within the past week and it is being taken care of. The pain is waiting for a new card and having to contact the couple of vendors we have set up for automatic payment. Also luckily, I pay our bills promptly so when I called them, they didn't even question it (and some had their own stories) and are fine with waiting until the new card arrives.

Actually, I don't eat at all after 2 or 2:30 pm. Or drink anything but water and one coffee in the early morning. I didn't use to be this way until 2018 when I started losing weight. They had to adjust thyroid meds down several times. I already take a few meds to sleep. Not sure what else to do and I'm ok with 5 hours of sleep. It's the 3-4 hours that get me.

Going to finish unloading the hay this morning. Yesterday the wife was "helping" me unload some hay and she slipped and fell on the trailer. She really struggles with these 100 pound bales. After that I'll split some more firewood. We're supposed to get several days of rain, or snow, so I'll cover the wood pile tonight.
Tomorrow morning we're going to go visit my mom. She's been in the hospital for about a week, and the doctors don't expect her to be around much longer. This will probably be our last visit. She's almost 94 years old.

It got cold up at the mill this weekend, down in the teens.
I walked in yesterday to water all over. As predicted we blew a few water pipes in the mill n now it's all wet or frozen.
Uggh...
I was told it took most of the morning just to fix stuff and figure out how to get water to the saws since the pipes are frozen.
The sewer lines froze too..good times..
If we can get the roof n siding installed where we burnt up the headrig really really soon..we might pull it off n be ok to run all winter..
All this should be done by oct though..owell..
I slept in this am..I woke up yesterday before sunrise. Way to early for nightshift and was struggling to stay awake driving home last night.
So I'm being lazy this am. I had crazy dreams too that I remember, but no cheese eating!
The dreams should have been nightmare quality but I was more observing them like watching a movie but yet I was there watching it all unfold without being affected by what is happening. It's a weird sorta of mental gymnastics I might have conjured after years of crazy scarry totally immersive jumping out of bed ones I used to have. So now I have these where I observe.. mostly and I remember alot of details since mortal fear is gone.
I had a dream I watched 2 b-52 fly one behind the other..not sure where I was but it was rolling hills , golden fields, not much for trees n greenery. Then the lead one was hit, big plane parts n stuff go everywhere n the rest of it crashes. I could hear its engines..its kinda got a whining growling sound..the second one crashed too..stuff going everywhere..big poof of fire. I was looking around for a 3rd one..somehow I had a sence a 3rd one was somewhere in danger but i woke up.
Had a crazy earthquake one. No sound in this dream. At first I was in it, then switched into observation mode. This quake was like seastacks rising outta the sea kinda quake..mountains crumbling..massive destruction. I recall watching a street crumble, there was a white horse with black leather n one of those tourist ride buggies it was attached to. It was parked next to a quaint row of mid size concrete buildings , cars n trucks parked near it. The buildings were grey n multi storied but not massive. The steps lead up to doors, lots of windows. I knew the ocean was close by n not too far from what I felt was home on the west coast but otherwise I didnt know where I was. I was watching from a birdseye view maybe 150 or so off the ground. Well maybe higher ..anyways..stuff starts shaking, hard..I zone in on that street as its collasping..the horse is freaking out as the fixture is swallowing the buildings n vehicles in front if it. I want to free it from the buggie but I'm not sure how to get to it but a second later it falls into the fizzure along with the car in front of it. I see its shiny black hooves, silvershoes ,white legs kick about before the buggie falls in too.
That was more disturbing than watching the people scramble n building fall about. I see in the distance a mountain crumble n lava flow
No sound tho..earth rose up under me n I just ride it up watching all the destruction about in silence.
Then I wake up n wonder if I was slipped something..weird n disturbing but I'll take them over some of the nightmares I used to have.

@Haertig my brother didn't get his male cats neutered and they got into a territory war. The old computer was a favorite target. A cat named Biscuits is the worst about it. He's a very sweet loving cat though. Likes to climb on m shoulder. If I say his name he comes running over for cuddles. I just tested it out and it worked. He's now on my shoulder. Thus far he's shown no interest in the UPS and the new computer.

Had problems with my wifi adapter. Lost antenna to new one so not enough signal to reach modem. Used old wifi usb adapter and it kept needing to be reset. Found some antennas from an old router and put them on so it seems to be doing a bit better now. Also, windows unregistered & wouldn't let me re-use the previous key to re-register so I had to do a work around.

Friend's daughter fit in the jacket and thermal pants but the thermal shirt was too small.

I probably have to go back to the store sometime today to get salads and other groceries. But also need to find time to take my truck to a dealership to get the wheelbearing replaced. Can't take it back to previous dealership bc they screwed it up & damaged the CV axle. It's making horrible noises when I drive. It's one of those push-in types so it's a bear to remove and replace.

But for now I'm lounging and playing on my computer.

Slept like crap. This cold front is really pissing off my asthma. Got all the critter waters filled and a new round bale put out for the horse and jersey heifer. The cow with mastitis/edema finally has all four teets back to normal. Baby is nursing well. I'm going to keep them penned up for 24 more outs to make sure that everything stays normal then I'll let them out tomorrow.

Now to make some hot tea and something to eat before I have to go into work.

I just now finished a snack of cheese, crackers and my famous hot sauce. Yesterday I made a spread of canned smoked ham and mayonnaise. Then I added a chopped hot pepper, that someone gave me, and a dash of my hot sauce to the mix. It was plenty hot. The wife just rolls her eyes at me.

Glad you got to get out and do something!! How is the knee doing??
Iโ€™m very pleased with the progress of my rehab. Knee feels pretty good. Pain is minimal and if I overdo it, itโ€™s sore. But not much actual pain anymore. Sometimes at the end of the day I take two Percocet if Iโ€™m sore.

I went into town yesterday. Came across a squash box in the Canadian Tire parking lot. They were marked down to $2.00 each. For some reason, no one is buying this year.

I picked up 50. There's hardly any veggies in the stores anymore, and they are really poor quality and expensive. I will spend spend some time making and freeze drying soup once I get my roosters turned into stock.
Iโ€™m having trouble finding good squash. All I can find is butternut and acorn. No sweet dumpling, no turban squash. Itโ€™s disappointing.
