I just got my first tick bite of the year, darn. I went up an knocked on dads door. He had just laid down but was still awake. He was able to get the whole tick including the mouth. This means the tick had only just latched on in the last hour or so.

I took a heavy dose of poke, usnea and sida. Fingers crossed... no RMSP or Lyme.

Since I couldn't get an appointment to have my car looked at until next week, I have been putting the charger on the battery when I was home. But the battery wasn't holding a charge. I was keeping the charger and an extension cord with me in the car and having to charge it in random places to get the car started. The battery, 17 months old. When I was lying in bed last night, it occurred to me that it was probably not the alternator that I had originally thought, but the battery, even though it wasn't really that old. I charged it up this morning enough to get the car started, drove to the auto parts store where I had purchased the battery to find out whether my hunch was right, or not. They removed the battery and tried to do a full charge. They realized that the battery was defective. But, it was still under warranty! Woohoo! Now I don't have to give up the car for a day next week and pay $100's to have the alternator replaced. Cost to me today? $0. And, I can drive now with the air conditioner on. I was driving with the windows down, trying to conserve the battery.
They told me to come back in a couple days and they will test the alternator, for free. My auto shop wanted to do all of that, for a fee, and to have the car all day. I am booked with visiting several dogs a day next week and there was just no way I could not have my car.

What a relief!

Lyme is nasty, it’s been 4 years for my wife and it still flares up and causes problems. I’m sure God created ticks for a reason just can’t imagine what it might be.

Awesome answer to prayer

The day started out bad. The little scope that was on my 10/22… the adjustments are broken internally. I can’t correct for windage or elevation, so, time for a new cheap scope.

I got in my trunk to go down to my neighbors to get a carton of eggs and see if I could buy some hens. I ran over my dog when I backed out. :(

I heard him yelp, I jumped out, ran around the truck. His head was upside down with the tire on his throat. I jumped back in the truck and let it roll forward off him. He began yelping and climb from beneath the truck.

His head was in a little depression filled with wet sand from the 1 inch of rain yesterday. It saved his life. Had the ground been hard it would have crushed his skull.

Other than that he was fine. No ribs broken, no leg or joint damage, just a spot on the top of his head about the size of a dime where the skin was ripped away. I petted him and he went and got his ball, wanting to play. The dog sleeps under my truck during the day, nice and cool. I moved my truck several time this afternoon, not once was he under it sleeping! Maybe a lesson learned and a problem solved.

Anywho! I went and got the carton of eggs and made a deal on laying hens.

I took dad fishing this evening, I said be ready at 7pm. He was standing by my truck at 6pm. Over the last few weeks we’ve had several days when the heat index was over 105 degrees.

The water in that pond was just too hot. I’ve taken baths in water that was colder. I had my crickets stolen in the deeper water by the dam, dad caught one little bream about 3 inches long and that was it. I told dad the only time we will catch something is just at dawn and dusky dark.

An old country trick with crickets… thin slices of a russet potato in the cricket cage. They will drink the water from the potato.

I’ve had this old bucket 15 years, only use it once in a great while. It has a Styrofoam cooler inside it and a padded lid. Perfect to sit on while cane pole fishing and have ice cold refreshments as a bonus…

Ouch your poor YD @Amish Heart and those teeth and glad to hear she is doing Ok but will be in a lot of pain for a while. I had 4 taken out all at once but was at work the next day but not all are so lucky.

The stain remover recipe is -
- 1 litre of cloudy ammonia.
- 1 litre of dishwashing liquid.
- 8 tablespoons of bicarb soda.

Best to do it outside and put in a bottle and shake as the ammonia is rather pongy.

To spot stain remove use a toothbrush and scrub in a circular motion on the front and back of the stain and wash as usual. For soaking put in a layer of clothing in your laundry tub and cover with a layer of stain remover, another layer of clothing etc and top with warm water and soak overnight. With dark clothing don't leave the solution on there for too long before washing as it will strip the colour out of them.

This pretty much gets out grease and most other stains easily. The only thing we found that doesn't come out is tree sap stains and red dirt.

Yesterday we were on weekly house cleaning and DH vacuumed the floors, I mopped them, I deep cleaned the bathrooms and toilet. We then folded up 3 loads of clean washing and put it away and made the bed with clean sheets.

Today we went to the RSL to sort out paperwork and bills and had a soft drink each and I have printed out all of the paperwork to put in our tax returns when we get further details. We also rang the local hardware store and ordered 4 x 5 shelf metal storage shelves for our food storage room and ordered the necessary hydraulic and 4 stroke oils too.

Tonight's dinner will be curried sausages.

Might look on Craigslist for an older one. They wash clothes way better than the newer models.
I so agree with you. In the past, I have usually purchased from Sears, but since they have decided to not manage their business well, I am no longer buying Kenmore products. My fridge is a GE.

My concern is that I will get a used washer that has some issues. My dead Kenmore is 15 years old. I really wanted a repairman to repair it. He said it was the transmission that needed to be replaced. A big challenge is that my laundry set up is on the second floor and getting a washer up and down a set of stairs with two turns and then a turn at the top is never easy. Yes, delivery guys do the work, but there are always dings left behind.

Good going on the canning jars @Terri9630.
Along with the jars we got a bbq/smoker for $25, a wood stove for the workshop for $25 and hubby got a trolling motor and minnow bucket for $10. We left before they got to the canners, I already have 4....
