So far today I have deep cleaned the bathroom and toilets for the week, DH has broken down the other lounge chair box and the spare cardboard boxes from around the fireplace from deliveries, I have put the little bit of firewood in our ply box we got with our ram, swept around the fireplace and cleaned the floor and side of the stove that had some grease around there. We have put all the cardboard in the bin, put our free water we had away in the food storage room to get it off the lounge room floor. The floors look nice and clean now and round the fireplace looks a lot cleaner and tidier now.

Can't sleep... again gaah So I took a walk out to the highway. I took a flashlight, don't want to step on a pit viper in the dark. There is a lot of smoke in the air tonight, wind has been out of the east for a couple of days. I checked the forestry commission wildfire map online. There are 12 in the state right now, they claim 10 are contained. The 3 in my neck of the woods are directly east and about 50-60 miles away. The scent isn't heavy so I figure the smoke from those 3 fires has had time to drift here. If the smell were strong I'd say a new fire has started but I think I'm safe.

I didn't know my state forestry commission had a wildfire map until tonight. I book marked it for the future. It's supposed to rain monday so maybe the drought and fires will be over.

I also figured out how measure straight distances on google maps... google it... the directions are a little clunky

Round 2 of today is we stripped the bed and made it with clean sheets. We then folded up 4 loads of washing and I set about shaving my legs as it is getting hotter and we are getting into wearing dresses again :) . DH washed the dishes and cleaned the benches and I wiped them and put them away. Then went outside where DH helped me empty the collapsible rain water tank beside the rainwater tank shed into a bucket so I have used some of it to water the potted herbs and fruit trees with and to fill up the kangaroo and wallaby water with and there will likely be enough water to water the potted plants tomorrow and fill the kangaroo water back up. This will mean we are using less town water for a few days and every litre we are not paying for is a bonus and saving water during high water restriction times.

I am working from 8am to 8pm but could be held over until Midnight. And since I am a command officer I use the term "work" loosely. I will spend two 4 hour sessions in the command post and hopefully the boss will let me go out into the field for the other 4 hours. The ICP is important but since this is an event and not an incident, the ICP is usually slow and boring even if the field/comm center are crazy busy.

Never seen or been involved with a busier bunch of folks.

Makes me feel kinda guilty ( not really) for doing absolutely nothing today.
May piddle outside a bit, now that the temps have moderated.

Got all my diesel fuel in barrels and tractors and truck treated yesterday.
Crape Myrtles need pruning badly..
Garage needs cleaning badly..
Shop needs cleaning badly..
New knee leg is great today.

Watching Rifleman now..

:doghouse:

LazyL...why drop dirty clothes down the stairs?
I dry our laundry in our upstairs loft, and throw them on the couch below. Then go downstairs to fold them.
I did finish cleaning the garage yesterday. Took me all week, but it's done.
Daughters are coming by today, hope to go to the library booksale with them. Grandson has an all day till evening band thing going on. One of our daughters will be traveling for a while...Miami, Austin, Seattle, so we'll have a goodbye dinner, a special one for her tonight. I think our son is taking off to the mtns to camp tonight. Everyone is going every which way. Start of balloon fiesta today, and traffic will be awful for a couple of weeks.

@Meerkat I'd be getting a second opinion on the eye mess, could be they are just stalling, trying to coverup their mess. I'd go see the patient advocate at that hospital today. At least it's a good place to start, they'll have contact information for outside groups and people that might help.

That said... the cataracts they didn't want to take out of my left eye, said it could be years before surgery is needed... it's snuck up on me in the last couple of weeks. I need surgery now and it's only been 10 months, not years. I'll dig out that clinic name this weekend, it'll be a couple of months before I can get an appointment anyway.

Wish you the best on the eyes... get a hold of that patient advocate! :)

Peanut nothing will stop the university insanity going on now. PLUS I need better sight to see what I'm signing.

Sorry you have to deal ith CFD that sounds not good.:huggs:

@Meerkat good luck with sorting the eyesight and get a second and third opinion but it did sneak up quickly on my mother as far as eyesight went.

With the doctors here I just say I am concerned about x with DH and it is investigated as they know I am an ex nurse. Our doctor we have had for a few years just said to me if it hadn't been something you said to have a head scan with DH they may never have found the aneurysm but that was a hunch due to him not having a scan after his accident. Sometimes as a wife and having been in the medical you just know when things are not right with your husband and I will act on it.

@Sewingcreations15 Glad to hear good news under the circumstances.
Jim - and all this time I thought you were so normal - you don't like PBfudge! Yum! Good to hear you are getting autumn though after the heat. And take care of that knee.
@MoBookworm1957 Now that the house is put back together, you'll probably have no company. They will wait until you are in the middle of another rearrange:)
@Meerkat Take care of you - hope someone figures it out soon.

Wednesday night was a hard frost (sorta,) enough to do in the squash plants so picked all the spaghetti squash I was leaving on the vine to ripen. Hopefully they will ripen off the vine in the summer kitchen. I've been cleaning up the lavender plants - 3 more yet to go. Two trips to Lewiston, ID this week and will head back over Monday. That's too many hours sitting in a rig. I have a pile of ironing to do, floors are a disgrace and yard/garden needs tending before severe weather and really, I would just like a nap:) Will see what I can get done this weekend.
:huggs::Thankyou:

Went to order hubbyss birth certificate and Illinois wants $50 for the darn thing. I also just called dish to see if we could set up service at the new place but not cancel the service down at the old place until hubby retires in Dec. After talking to 3 people who couldn't understand what I was asking for the 4th said she set me up for a new install/account and when I told her no, that's not what I was asking about she kept rambling on about equipment upgrades and stuff. I finally just hung up and I'll call back Monday to undo whatever she did.

LazyL...why drop dirty clothes down the stairs? ....

Two story house with the bedrooms (and dirty clothes hamper) on the second floor. Clothes washer and dryer are on the ground floor. Wife wants the dirty clothes on the main floor where she has the floor space to sort them before washing.

Just because... I went and put in my info and the kids info and realized that its the Express Vitals site that charges the huge fees. $49 fee from EV and $22 from Tx. $79 for a birth certificate!

Edited to add... Fortunately I found a cheaper website to order them from. I don't know why I can't just order them from the states directly...

My wife went to the eye doctor Friday. Found out she has Glaucoma.

Around 10 years ago she got optic neuritis. She woke up one morning with vision in only one eye, the other eye could see nothing at all. That slowly healed so she got her sight back in that eye but the eye did suffer some permanent damage.

We just decided to go to Cave in Rock, across the river on the ferry boat.
Just the have Bluegill late lunch at Rosie's Cafe, and maybe walk thru the cave where Dave Crockett spent some time.

I'll report back later.

Jim

Jim,
Looks like a nice day trip. Can't say I've ever saw the ohio river look that blue. We lived in Louisville for 2 years and make trip to in-laws in Michigan every year. It always looks brown and nasty when I see it.

I spent the entire day working on our hot tub. I decided this morning it was time to fill it for the fall and winter. I got it filled and went to kick on the breaker and the gfi would immediately trip. So i pulled the side panel and started testing, motors tested good lights were fine moved on to the control panel and it was fine which only left the heater which tested bad. Our local plumbing supply store used to sell hot tubs so i thought they may have a few parts so I loaded up and headed into town. Ive done business with these people for 30 years when I got there I told them what I needed and he said we have some parts but no one knows what they fit anymore he told me to go in the back and dig around. I did and found the exact heating element I needed along with a ozone sanitizer and 4 new padded headrests that looked as they might work. I drug all of this up to the counter and asked what the total came to? He told me it was mine if I could use it! I got home installed all of the new parts and got my hot tub repaired without spending a penny! It's heating now looks like it will be heater up to 104 degrees and be ready for a soak in another hour or so.
