We've appealed our business property taxes using a local company that does it. It saved us a lot of money over the years. They get a percentage of what they save us. Yep, Weedy, we're using pods. Packing and loading the stuff ourselves. Then we call them and they send a semi and they drive it to the farm and leave it there. We might need three of them, but we can stagger the delivery of each one. We'll reserve three, but no extra fee if you cancel. Waiting to RSVP the pods until we see if we are using this real estate agent. She is bringing a market analysis and her contract paperwork this Thursday afternoon. If it looks ok, then we'll sign on and book the pods. Why? Because husband wants to do it that way. Pods only require a week before delivery ATM, and you get 30 days with it, from start to finish for $2200 a pod. Not cheap, but the only way we can manage this. At the same time, we are working with my cousin the contractor in Yoder who will be building on a very large bedroom, 2 walk in closets, and a wheel chair accessible bathroom with a shower. It will be on the lower level of the farm house. There is only one bedroom downstairs which husband and I currently use, but it is very tiny, and the bathroom downstairs is difficult for him to use, since it's not made handicapped. I think our son will stay on here, watch the house, eliminate the chickens I don't take, and see to whatever. He has been planting so much food in the back of our property that he maintains. Romanian guy came by today, and I hadn't seen him for at least a month. He bought eggs, and he's moved recently. He'd like to set up chickens again before we move, so he'll be taking some.

I'm arguing politics something I got inot when I first came online and saw my nation being changed.
Not making friends for sure so guess its not a good thing but whatever free speech or thought I have left i use.Just my opinion
Can't go anywhere or live in a free socierty anymore so I vent .
Other than that not much getting done so wasting time.
I did add to compost pile this morning and cooked dinner. Took care of old dog ,gave her a bath for her skin problem.

I had to go to the little town in late afternoon, unplanned. The folks needed some new things after the nurse left. While there I got everything on my list except a battery for the generator. Looks like I'll have to get it in the big town.

I got home just before dark and went down to check on the peeps. They are set for the evening.

Something really strange happened. I heard either a) an animal sound I've never heard. b) someone hunting coyotes with recordings or c) a coyote with damaged vocal chords.

I made a few calls to kinfolk and neighbors, no one is supposed to be hunting anything in the area... now I'm the only one with free access to about 600 acres the next few nights (or days). (land I know like the back of my hand)

About 8:30pm I went and checked the peeps again... For the second time I heard this strange animal sound. No one around here is stupid enough to be wandering these hills and fields. Everyone knows I'm armed and will shoot at coyotes every chance I get. 3 separate herds of cattle are scattered on these properties also... have to be careful.

I'm stumped on this animal sound, never heard the like before.

@LadyLocust yes, I brought my dad home from the nursing home last week.... yea!

Tell me what it sounded like.
I've had the same experience on two different occasions.

I still have never figured out what it was.
Sounded like a rough, raspy cry turned into a shrill scream.

Scary

That loosely fits the description… but it never got to a shrill scream. The pitch increased by a couple of octaves but was choked off by a gurgling sound.

Anyone reading this would think I’m nuts but that is as close as I can come to describing it. The first time I heard it, I actually heard it twice within seconds. Coyotes started howling at different locations almost immediately. I didn’t hear it as clearly the second time because of the coyote howls. It was about 100yrds away on the fence line between pasture/woods and a 20-acre pine thicket.

About an hour and a half later (full dark now) I heard it again but only once. It was much closer, 50 to 60yrds, still in woodland.

Fast forward 2hrs…

I just now took a little walk with my rifle, no sounds but coyotes howling. I keep 3 coil spring steel traps (2 sizes) secured to the perimeter fence of the chicken pen with 1/8th inch aircraft cable (2 sleepy creek #1’s and a MB 450 – a 1.5 size. I wanted to set those traps and leave them over night… but my trap setters are missing. I have no idea where they are, couldn’t find them using a head lamp.

Oh well, I’m going to set those traps tomorrow evening, might even put out a couple more. I’ll hook the dog up to a tie-out cable overnight.

Mom's birthday today but I was having kidney stones. Took medicine & slept later than I intended. Went to the store to grab stuff to try to fix the phoneline issue, picked up my friend to bring him out to look at it & to help with a computer problem Mom was having. I also picked up some medicine for my brother bc his COPD is giving him grief. Phone issue resolved itself after I left (not sure what the problem was) so friend just fixed the computer issue, wished Mom happy birthday, I gave him a curtain rod for his shower (which he put up when he got home) & I took him back home. Mom asked me to go to the store to grab more trash bags so I popped back in, grabbed em, and hit the checkout as fast as I could. Everybody and their brother, cousin, aunt, uncle, and nephew was there today. People had their kids, hardly any of the employees were wearing masks... They were carrying on like there's nothing going on & that worries me. I touched as few things as possible, stayed away from people, and kept my mask on tight. Got home and made dinner for Mom. My aunt Kathy (mom's younger sister) and my sister both called to talk to Mom.
Sometime this week I need to pack her defective computer monitor up into a box and ship it back to Viewsonic for repair & wait for them to send it back or replace it. In the meantime, we hooked her computer up to the 55" TV screen so she can switch between watching TV or watching videos she saved to her computer. She likes to watch Dr. Pimplepopper.

Picked names for the two kittens we plan to keep from my friend's cat that had a litter. They were sleeping when I went to pick him up so I didn't wake them to pet them. Adorable little things.

Hope everyone is doing well today. Going to check my e-mail & other forums & try to get some sleep.

You guys sure those weren't foxes? I used to hear it, really scared me, outside as a 12 year old late at night with the dogs.
I told mom, she wasn't concerned in the least. It sounded like a woman screaming and being strangled. Mom said it was a fox.

I believe you are referring to a red fox which can sound rather raspy but is a lot different than a grey fox sounds. I had a red fox family living at the end of my garden one year so I know them well.

After thinking about it over night the more I'm convinced it was a grey fox or coyote with damaged vocal cords. This was a sound I haven't heard before. It seemed the coyotes were answering or responding to the first sound. In either case I don't want them anywhere near my chicken pen. Got to find my trap setters today.

I never thought about Fox.
Could have been.
That was couple years ago, never heard it since, but I've never forgot it.

I guess it coulda been old man Hawkins down the road, beating his wife...

I'm resting mostly today ..
I hauled 4 front loader buckets of dirt (4 yards) and hand shoveled into gulley's , raked, seeded, strawed in my front yard.

Sad day in my house today.
My coffee pot has died.
Worked the poor thing to death.
But never fear dug out 4 cup coffee pot until I can get new one.
Which holds 2 cups in my cup.
Got one load of laundry in dryer.
Bedding going in the washer.
Always wash up winter bedding before putting it a way for the summer.
Will be getting out lighter Log Cabin quilt to put on my bed for awhile.
Swept the floors already.
Strawberry has been outside several times.
Have no clue what I'm doing today.
Rest day would be good.
Probably won't get it, but it would be nice.

Neat thing about the net... you can listen to wild animal sounds on youtube. They have the sounds made by just any species, birds, mammals... etc. I went through all the most likely critters last night. Didn't find anything similar.

Went for walk first, then to local grocery for meat sales. We don't eat meat that often and now have enough for many months. Also got a watermelon. Mmmm Came home and rearranged freezer for meat.

Turned my pickled shrimp made a few days ago into Chinese stir fry which I consider much more edible! Supposed to wash rugs, sweep and dust today. We will see if all that happens.

Storms coming through again tonight and tomorrow morning. Should start around midnight and be over by noon tomorrow. Another restless night for and with dogs!

Wife has run out of regular bread (she always has some in the freezer) on week 6 of isolation. I offered to bake bread for her because I have baked a lot of gluten-free bread. But she is going to try to bake her own today. We have had a bread maker for many years that we have never used and she is going to try using that (at least for the kneading). With gluten-free no kneading is required but she is making regular bread just for her. I might a little :)

Sinuses are being a pain(literally) have a headache most of the day now.
Didn't do too much just read some and listened to the local radio station. They have programs about local importance and run the Gov's daily press briefing. So I like listening to it. Lots of great info for the area.
Hubby got home early so he finally roto-tilled the big raised bed. I added 3 bags of manure and raked it in. We're supposed to get rain showers for the next 4 days ( ugh)
Gonna get the coffee pot ready and hubby's lunch packed.
Until then I plan to read the news then head to bed. Hopefully my headache will be gone by morning.
Once the trees are done I'm fine but until then just have to deal with it

Hope your head feels better soon VWDragonL.:huggs:.

Update on today:
2 loads of laundry washed, died, folded or hung up and put away.
Remade bed with clean bed linens.
Washed dishes and put away.
Had bowl of ham and red kidney beans for supper.
Cooked low and slow in crock pot all day.
Have decided my old glasses are part of the reason for the headaches.
Could be Cottonwoods though too.
