Taking a coffee break and thought I'd check in. Hope to finish up my shower install this mornig. Even after my careful planning, as is usual, I'm gonna have to run to the hardware to pick up a fitting I checked off my list but apparently put it back or something. Oh well. Supposed to get nice here so I might run over to the mennonite greenhouse about a 3/4 mile from me and pick up some plants and try to get some in the garden today and also if the wind doesn't pick up I have a brush pile I'd like to light. See how much I get done on my agenda vs the unknown ones that will likely pop up from the DW.

Well, well , seems I have plans for today.
Unusual .

Gonna try to pack and level all the dirt piles into those mole gulley's.
Seed, fertilize and straw..
I'm tired from yesterday and tirederer just thinking about it.

Would love to burn that brush and giant log today.

Also replant the beans and peas , before the storms and rain tomorrow.

Wow , it's either feast or famine .
I believe it's feast for now.
More to do than I can today. New knees are awesome , but can't perform miracles.

Thinking about getting started... where are the GKs when you need them.

Grandkids? Work and kids are not synominous like Manard G. Crebes and work, lol, remember him?Once you get them going though they can knock it out.Mine helped clear this place 24 year ago.Plus lots of other stuff they helped do,so on second thought, they are ok.

Already started the cleaning I mostly put off yesterday. Got mop bucket filled kitchen floor mopped with Murphys Oil Soap ' like smell of that. done and after may mop upstairs. About to put roast in oven.
Need to do some dancing for exercise once this mop warms me up.

Another day of yard work.

I ordered a semi-dwarf Bartlett pear tree from Stark Brothers in Missouri and it came yesterday after I had already spent a few hours in the yard. I will work on digging the hole to plant it in today. I have another Bartlett pear that has never done well, and part of the reason is that it was damaged shortly after I planted it. It has produced about 30 pears every year, but I want to get another one going.

So many weeds to dig out! I dig out about a 5 gallon buckets worth every day.

I was able to get some more 5 gallon buckets for free yesterday to plant potatoes in. I will need more, but this helped!

The French Provincial dining room table that I got from an alley a couple weeks ago continues to get worked on. I have 3 of the legs and the top sanded. I am going to sand the last leg today and then spray paint all the legs. I am painting them a cream color, close to the color of the wide Victorian trim in my house. After the legs are all painted, I will attach them to the top and then paint the top. Every time I sand, I get covered in dust and have to change clothes because it will not come out.

That figures!😟You get a French Provincial dining room table in a back alley somewhere and all I got was these two johns off road side in a nice n-hood.
Came with all fixtures except seats,we bleached them but they were already clean looking looked like they do in pic.
We want a half bath upstairs so one will go there.

Oh schit Weedy, I didn't mean to highjack your thread, lol.

Grandkids and work: We have to wave something in front of them to get them going. They had their regular chores for a Saturday today: feed some chickens, collect eggs, clean bedroom, clean their own bathroom, hang up some laundry. Then, because it's a weekend, they have a few extra things today. Husband just heard them goofing off in the kitchen, and yelled at them, "You better get off your butts and do the chores your granny asked you to do, or there's no dinner for you tonight". Ha. Food works every time. I have never seen any of them miss a meal. They are supposed to be emptying four 55 gallon water containers today, to get them ready for moving. Also taking out all the one gallon water containers out of the garage, emptying them, smashing them down, and putting them in recycling. And dog messes pickup and green bean watering.
I had to go to the post office to pick up mail and neighbors mail. Went to Sams for our order we made 4 days ago. They had the fruits and veg we asked for, but no lunchmeat or cottage cheese. Still one oddball chick hatched. I expect the rest of them tonight or tomorrow. Packed a dozen boxes today. Taking a break, then will pack more. The workmen just stopped by...one is fixing some rain gutters and drainage on our roof, the other is painting our front door. The realestate lady wanted our old wood door to pop. So Hunter Green it is, or will be.

Went hiking at another park (technically, a "conservancy") that I'd never been to. My daughter's whole family was there, which I wasn't thrilled with, but it was ok. The park is beautiful with miles and miles of trails through river bluffs and hardwoods. There's even some stands of shagbark hickory, which isn't real common around here.

There are still at least 15 miles of trails I didn't get to explore, so I will definitely be back...

We worked on tearing out some more of the pool deck.
Hubby dug holes for the new posts and I made us breakfast
Afterwards I started a load of laundry. Did a total of 3 of them today
While hubby dug more holes I tended to the plants in the greenhouse and repotted my strawberry mint that managed to over winter. Just a tiny bit but hopefully it'll grow good this year and I can bring it in this fall.
Planted my swiss chard in large pots.
After that I helped bring in heavy beams that hubby cut up for the posts. I have no idea why he didn't use the bobcat. ugh.
Worked on more laundry. Can I just say now I really don't like sorting socks  such a pain in the rump
It was so nice out today. Sunny and in the 70's.
Tomorrow hubby will be setting the posts in cement
I am so tired lol
Had takeout for supper
Now its time to read some and get the coffee pot ready
Easy day tomorrow yay

@Meerkat , you worry too much ..we don't think anything bad about your postings, so neither should you...:huggs:

Y'all know I live on top of a hill and have mole problems. Couple weeks ago I fixed a couple big gullies ...remember.
Well that was nothing .
Look at my front yard.

Here's the real story.

These new knees are working me to death...I love it.
Walked out today with no plans..
Projects just abound.
They jump out at me ..in no order ..just whatever pops up.
So today was a hard , busy day.
The yard along my driveway coming up the hill to the back of house and garage , has always been higher than the driveway and sloped too steep toward driveway, so today it's soft and I decided to change that.
Using front loader and box blade took that ridge down over 12". Tapered it for easier mowing.

All seeded, fertilized, watered ,raked and strawed today.
Now you know where all that good topsoil went...into all the gulley's in the yard. At least 10 gulley's in yard , now with dirt in them.
Guess what I gotta do tomorrow.

I'm tired.

Showered and ready for a long overnite nap.

See if you had taken Strawberry, you would have no moles, voles.

Strawberry and I have spent the bigger part of the day outside.
Her with her nose to ground wandering around as far as her tie out will let her.
Me moving house plants outside to the front porch.
Which clears off the living room window.
It's not quite bay window but it's wide enough to hold 10-15 10" flower pots or 1 dog named Strawberry.
Yep found her up on window bay enjoying the sun, the view, the robins in the yard.
She doesn't care for motorcycles though with their music blaring.
I enjoy the motorcycles, just not the music.
Took down all the heavy winter curtains will get them washed up and put away in the next couple of days.
Dishes are done up, kitchen is cleaned.
My meat bundle is put away in refrig freezer and chest freezer.
What a relief to have that again.
Had a tired, cranky, itchy grand daughter this morning for a few hours.
When you wake up at 0130 am and won't go back to bed.
Makes daddy cranky.
Doesn't do a lot for Granny either.
Course she gets to my house she wants to cuddle.
Nope not happening, daddy says no.
He finally took her to his home so they could both take a nap.
Days like this Granny wishes she had a beer in the house.
Grand daughter is cutting all 4 molars at once.
Granny is tired.

I felt a little better today, actually got a few things done. I bush hogged around my chicken pen and the elderberry bushes. I found the trap and steel cabling dad lost a few years ago.

For several years now... if dad used something or did something, in two weeks it was forgotten completely. I knew one of my traps was missing, just didn't know what he did with it. I backed the bushhog up under the elderberry... I heard metal hit something hard then the bushhog itself was out of balance. Yep! found my trap! It wasn't that hard to cut all the 1/8th inch steel aircraft cabling out, just time consuming. And I really hate sticking my arms up underneath a bushhogg even when I'm the one running it.

I took the blades off dad's old riding mower and sharpened them. It won't start, don't know why. I charged the battery last week, put it back on the charger again and filled it with gas, oil is good to go. The starter is not getting electricity. This mower has several interlocks on it, more than likely the problem. I'll work on that next week, don't need the mower for a few more days.

Need to take the tires and rims off the rear of the old tractor, dread that job. I soaked all the studs with penetrating oil today. I need to set the tires out to the crop position.

Now... a little tv...

Tried to find compost for my raised beds. Went to 3 places. No go, nobody had anything. Gonna try other places next week. went back home and finished building the beds, On the last board the wife dropped her end of the 2x12 and dropped it on her foot. Instant knot of her foot. Took her in the house and iced it down for a couple hours. Knot went down. Now it's sore and bruised, hopefully not broken. I finished up the bed, and will try to find compost or manure next week, then transplant my maters and peppers. Mowed 2/3 of the yard and tried to make progress on other stuff.

Well the problem wasn't so much the moles...I hate em, but could deal with them. Trap or keep the trails intact.

It was the bow wow doggies going after the moles that really did the damage on my HILLSIDE front yard... The trails became ditches, became gulley's , became craters, became Grand Canyons, with all the rain.

Wife and I have agreed ....never again will a puppy doggie be allowed to create such troubling hard labor for 2 old folks like us.

NEVER.

DOOGAN is only allowed out of his pen when supervised. BTW he is digging a little in his pen to bury bones, toys and such. That's ok it's his yard .

Jim

BacP hope the wifes foot is better this morning.

I woke up feeling better after the virtual reality party here at the " Dixie Club " last night with Patch and BacP :lil guy:.Only I drank too much coffee something I usually don't do at night.First time in a long time I delibertly stayed up all night.
I don't think Patch will be inviting Jonie Mitchel and Shelly Fabrea back though.:dunno:
Hubby canned limas and roast beef this morning and I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

I knew exactly what dug up those holes, seen thousands of them over the years. Our dogs still do it and they are old, especially one who also digs tunnels under sheds. Not under the house though, its 3'X3' deep concrete,Contractor said it was ' overkill '.I said I have a great archrtrct.
I don't know how to stop that digging most dogs do it.I know we lay down cattle fencing'it the least expensive' around gates and sheds ,pens that stops them. But you can't do that to awhole yard!

Yesterday was our last day of hard labor filling ,fixing trenches on a hillside.

Flat ground is easier walking ,working, (that I don't want to do ) than up and down a steep hill.

Wife said ,well, if my old ticker survived the last 2 days...I'm good to go for another month or three .

The pup has a large pen , mostly for night time , when I can't supervise.

We're gonna be ok. Live and learn.

The joy and protection our dogs give us is worth it, though sometimes we don't think so.They let us know if anyone is sneaking around.

Our apple trees are getting buds! Raspberries are starting to get leaves. Blueberry bushes look dead. Have potatoes coming up. I planted some store potatoes that started to go bad late last summer. I knew it was too late to get any new potatoes from them. But they did grow and had tiny potatoes under them in the fall. I left them and as I expected this spring they are starting to grow. I hope we don't get a late killing frost here this year (which is very common). Last year we were getting frost until the 4th of July.
Wife is done thinning her strawberry plants and now has the raised bed and a sizable patch down by the apple trees too. It has been way warmer than normal here for going on two weeks and the ten-day forecast is for continued warm weather.
Neighbors want us to come and dig up more raspberry bushes because they are taking over everything at their place. I might get some more and plant them a few different spots around our property and see if they make on their own so we have several stands of them. I think the elk likely won't bother them.

Went to the office on Friday to grab my laptop. Today, I plan to set up the laptop in my man cave so I can "work" from there.

I can do about 70% of my work on the laptop, so I should be able to do some leather crafting in my down time.

Plus, a man can only handle so many Hallmark Channel Movies before he goes insane...
