Well this is one of them days , I should stayed in

Went out to bush hog the hillside pasture, several good size trees.
Got a litt to close , rubbed back tire against tree...uuugghh
Broke tire seal , lost all the fluid in the tire.
Didn't hurt the tire, glad I was close to house.
Got a local tire guy coming to put it back on and fill it with fluid..
Yes , I only had five minute left on that field.

Gonna have some quick lunch, before the guy gets here.

Hope to be bush hoging again this afternoon , just be a little more careful.

Be careful Herc.

The guy came from 4 miles away , spent 20 minutes , putting Murphy's soap around tire to seal, pumped it up , half way removed the Murphy's soap , took another 10 minutes to add 30 gallons of fluid.
He's gone in 30 minutes.

I should have a guessing contest on what it cost.

I'll just tell ya wife almost sh!t. 30 minutes and he's gone she says.

$201.40

Uuuuggghhh. Stay away from trees

Ok back to mowing.

I spent the morning cleaning out and rehabbing an old Tower Garden (aeroponic system) that has been sitting out in my garden, unused, for years. Happily, it just needed some elbow grease and a new pump. Now off to get some lettuce, spinach, etc started, so I can enjoy fresh salads this fall and winter!

We are working on same thing only container maybe hydroponics again. We alread have all the materials including pumps air rocks,etc,..

JIm, I hate doing crap like that. I would have guessed 200-250. Bout right for a service call.
Lady, that pic of your dad is awesome. Bet he's only done that a few hundred times. Glad he's feelin on the better die of $hit. Never want to be on the bad side. Prayers continue.
Spent the afternoon with the parental units. Messed around in dads garden a little looking at everything. Out in the shop to discuss how to get the rest of his tiller transmission apart. It's a Troy Bilt Horse from the late 80's. Had a drive gear shred and he's gotten in all apart down to the shaft and last bearing. The "plate (for lack of the correct term) that the tines bolt to is stuck to the shaft and he hasn't been able to get it to budge. It has to come off to get the shaft and bearing out. He's beat on it, heated with a torch, beat some more. Used a bearing puller set up. NOTHING. I think next step he gonna try putting it in the freezer for a few days to try and cool it deeply and try again. I'm gonna talk to a guy at the machine shop at work and see if he has any ideas. Dad was able to get all the parts he needs to fix it once he gets it apart.
Got their sensors set up and in their freezers so they will have alarms if they have a problem.
Got home and picked a bucket of okra, bunch of cukes. I'll hit the maters tomorrow night

Had hubby read this. He said what he would do is spray it with Fluid Film then heat the gear - not the shaft- to about 1000* to work the FF into the rust to loosen it. Then put the shaft in cold water- not the gear. Then tap on the gear with a hammer- the “shock” of the impact usually works. If you could get a bearing puller on it that would be good.

He got the gear off. Just cant break the time housing loose. He has soaked it I. PB Blaster for a week. We are gonna try the cold hot shock and try to pop it. I'll look for that fluid too. Gotta get it loose somehow. E0 years or dirt and the beating a tiller takes has done a trick on it.
Tells hubs thanks for the tip. We're up for about anything at this point

The calf is a bull no more....ish. It takes a bit for the band to work. He didn't even fuss, he will when the branding iron gets here.
Please tell about the brand. Who designed it? I know my grandfather and uncles had brands and branding irons. South Dakota brands changed around 1940, and they had to get new branding irons. There is a book of S.D. brands and I found their brands in it.

Took the twins to their first marching band practice at their new school, and they enjoyed it. One on trombone, the other on trumpet. They met some friendly people, so that'll be good when school starts at the end of the month. Practice goes on for this week and next. Stopped by cousins to pick up tomatoes and cucumbers, and went to post office. Will be going into the big town to shop for mobility scooter for husband this afternoon. Looking after the 76 baby chicks in the house, removed the pasty off a butt. Husband starting a new diet today, so menu has changed drastically. Will be doing more basement unpacking.
I just had the realization that the size of their h.s. is about the same size as the h.s. I attended. There were around 50 in my graduating class, but now, the h.s has joined with another one, and is still about half the size.

Took the day off work to take my truck for a repair, had to leave it waiting for a part. Pick it up after work tomorrow. Goona go take a look at some goodies at the local fun store, then go visit my parents for a while. THen back here to pick cukes, maters, and okra tonight.
Backpacker, Sorry to hear your truck is down, know that's kinda like losing use of your arm.... f=g got it.... bang on!!

I rebuilt my truck's engine, brakes, and suspension over a winter in a tent, didn't like it, hated asking for a ride out to the field for fun stuff... my truck is now old enough to drink in all 50 states plan to keep it another decade....

Glad to hear the garden is going well. Do you put up your okra or do you have enough in your clan to eat it as it comes off?

It's nothing serious, just the hose running from the fill neck to the fuel tank. I just dont feel up to crawling on the ground to do it myself.
We do a row of okra, plenty to eat on and put in the freezer for the winter. We give some away as well. It's just the wife and I. Dad planted 2 rows for him and mom. Way too much

Yesterday after work I tried to install the first drawer in the new kitchen, it is a very deep (20"), tall (26") and wide (36") drawer under the kichen sink. Well when the son designed the kitchen he was trying to make things easy for his mom... good son.... He didn't consider that the deep sink would have a garbage disposal and drain pipe connected to it..... He had a Maxwell Smart moment, "Missed it by that much..." I had to adjust the drawer back so it can slide in under the disposal and plumbing, it can still hold the garbage cans and cleaning supplies, just was too tall in the back. Nothing a sawsall can't fix ;)

But if this is any indication, I will be finished putting all these drawers in sometime after next Christmas....

No, Honestly, I knew this was going to be the worst so I chose to do it first.

I love fried okra, learned that if you bread it and then place it on a wax-paper covered cookie sheets in the freezer over night, you can bag and store it in the freezer without it locking together in a big clump.

I'm the same way. Prefer to get the hardest/worst done first and out of the way. That I'm not muling it over in my mind, messing up my easy work or procrastinating starting any of the project.

Taking the twins to band camp in a few minutes. Plan to find the breaker panel around here and see what's up. Will try to get husband to take a look in the little garage to see if it's safe to plug in a chest freezer. Bought a bunch of flowers yesterday when I took mom to the plant nursery. I have 3 large pots to plant them in, and two homemade, skinny, tall planters someone made a long time ago. Found those in an outbuilding. The Menno/Amish front yards around here look very beautiful, and ours can use some work.

Got home around 7:30 last nite from the job in Wisconsin. Fiddle farted around for an hour and a half and fell asleep in my chair. I'm getting too old to get up at 4am, work an 8 hour day, then drive 5 hours home...

Of course, now that I'm home and don't have to be up early, I woke up at 0436 this morning. Ate breakfast, checked the news, and dozed off another 45 minutes. I'm on track for a good day now though. I'll head to the gym around 9 and my ex will be dropping my daughter off at noon.
I think it's coffee time right now!:coffee:

@Spikedriver Thought you were finished in WI??? Bet it's good to be home.
@snappy1 Forgot to mention yesterday, we've had good luck with Lem products.
@phideaux Be careful, wife might see some detail that will lead to a new family room 😂
@Amish Heart By next spring you'll have your yard whipped into shape. It all takes time.

Sorry, I've been a little distracted the last few days. Talked to Pa this morning. Reasonably good news. They have identified the bacteria causing the infection / vegetation on his heart valve. It is typically found in drug users so they are baffled and still don't know the source. (He is an old rancher - he doesn't even like aspirin let alone drugs.) They are pretty confident that it can be treated with a specific very strong antibiotics as opposed to an operation or a myriad of other scary options. When I spoke with him this morning, he sounded sooo much better, more optimistic, relieved, and stronger. They will have to keep him for 3-4 days which he wasn't thrilled about but isn't arguing because he knows he needs to. He was concerned because we can't visit and he doesn't have any clothes. I assured him we would bring him clothes before he needed them 😂 Still don't know the results of the CV test - I'm sure we'll learn more as the day progresses. Thank you again for all the prayers - ever grateful!

Just online talking to family and yall. Cooked and cared for dogs ,not much at all got done today. Was to clean out fridge, vcuum, mop floors. Maybe later or tomorrow.
Today is bad vision day certain lighting so had a fit trying to type to kids.Just 10 months ago I had 20/20 vision dr. complimented my vision for my age. and no pronlem till they sent me home with med that droppeed my BP too fast, instant stoke last Sept.! I tripped over the old dog and that peeved both of us off! I get so mad at those jerks for this, but guess I should have not let BP get high,so live and learn.

@LadyLocust I've still got at least a month to go in Wisconsin, probably even a bit more, before I go to Topeka. Topeka is the last job on the schedule for the year, and ends on Nov. 21st. Considering the economic uncertainty, and the fact that the Corona is throttling demand for rail shipments, I expect to be laid off at that time. When I'll be able to get back, is anybody's guess.
