I hope it all goes great, Sparky!
We picked up mom today and brought her over for lunch. Then took her to our little town's thrift store for shopping and then to get ice cream sundaes made by our granddaughter, because she was working today. Brought mom back home with all her purchases from the thrift store, and she had a happy day. MIL called from California and she is pretty miserable. She's sick of staying in because of Covid, and now can't even go outback because of the smoke. Hopefully she won't kill my SIL who lives with her. Went to Lowes to pick up chicken wire and hardware cloth to finish off our chicken runs. Hopefully will get that done tomorrow

I found myself doing a complete rebuild of one of toilets a few weeks ago when The Princess informed me that water had dripped on her head while standing at the kitchen sink! That kind of news can be rather troubling. Good news it was the tank to bowl gasket that had failed so it was clean water. Bad news was the bolts that secure the tank to the bowl had rusted solid (I just replaced them 32 years ago. What is with that?)

Thank God for Dremel tools!

After seeing that a Dremel tool had saved my butt 3 times in 2 weeks I broke down and decided to replace the cheap Harbor Freight tool with the best official Dremel tool available. Two days after I received it it bailed me out on a bathroom sink tail piece.

Re:your toilet
"Shark Bite" fittings from Lowes are amazing and make plumbing repairs that used to require solder or more dirt simple . They simply slip on and work. There are flapper repair kits that only requires draining the tank soaking up the left over water so that you can just peal and stick the new flapper valve.

Ben
Bathroom and house are pier and beam I think, a concrete slab too. City water here. Someone "fixed" it for me a year ago because it was leaking from tank to bowl. I could see a light cascade of water constantly running into the back of the bowl.
It is doing it again but only for a little while after flushing, then seems to settle into place.
Okay, so off to Lowe's I go, I guess. I definitely appreciate your help, @Neb for I know not what I do.
I already bought a flapper and the guy at ace talked me into a sealant ring.
Dremel tools. I think I have that, not sure what I'm talking about, just know that I have it.
Shark Bite fittings. Wish me luck.
lightbulb:Thankyou:
Amish, glad your mom was doing ok today and you had a nice visit and able to get her out to shop.
It is starting to sound like the fires are arson to me. Hadn't occurred to me before yall saying so.

Eating, sleeping, cooking, grand daughter, Strawberry.
Grocery order from Wal*Mart.
It's now put away.
Got crock pot of Navy beans going for supper tomorrow night.
Kicked back feet elevated.
Good Luck Sparky.
My heartfelt prayers are going with you.
Eating popisicles.
Don't have grand daughter tonight.
Have to be at son's house but ugly early in the morning instead.
Have I ever mention, I dislike shopping.
I only shop when I have too.

I saw my dad for the first time in person since his birthday in March at Wal*Mart of all places.
My dad is 83 years old.
I have tears running down my face, just thinking of him sitting in the house all alone.
Wondering what the heck happened to the world he knew.
We talk on the phone, but it's not the same as human contact.
Just as I sit alone in my place except for oldest son and oldest grand daughter checking on me weekly.
My dad was trying to get his medicine filled, but Pharmacy was closed for lunch.
And I know other elderly are thinking the same thing"What the Heck happened to our world".

Hopefully a very boring, routine surgery for Drs Sparky and a speedy recovery for you!
I agree Mobook. My kids knew that if we needed something they had to write it on the list so that there was a chance of getting it. I go in get what I need and leave- sometimes forgetting to make sure I have everything on the list.
This afternoon I canned more tomatoes for the folks and got the corn s shucked. Had to make a few calls to Verizon as Mom’s phone is dying and she wants the same kind which is obsolete and won’t be supported by the end of the year anyways. She will have to get a touchscreen which she’s not excited about since she has tremors.

Praying for you @Sparky_D .
Your gonna be just fine.

Today was a little better.
I spent 3 hours cleaning up and organizing my file cabinet , receipts, medical, insurance, manuals ...etc.

Wife was up moving around a bit today we are hoping that the steroid shot , the oxygen, and stronger pain meds will keep her going long enough for everything to get better. We even went to local burger shop for a burger.

Grandson came over to borrow my truck, he loves that truck. They were going bowling then out to eat...then he ask me if he could bring it back tomorrow...lol..love that kid.

I got the kitchen swept and mopped, was hard setting them robots in motion😊.

Not much else.
Resting , watching Audie Murphy cowboy movie.

Jim

No shark bites for me, I ain't no guy. Sick of doing guy stuff.
Too much I don't know or understand, and do not want to know.
Phideaux, you are one tough cookie. Relieved to hear Mrs. Phideaux is leveling out.
Mo, not good for your dad to be alone all that time. I hope things improve for everyone!
Including me. And the Meerkat family.
On my way home I was shocked to see that the smoke has made it's way far enough east that the sun was easily looked at, orange-red. Wasn't ready to see that, even though the colors are beautiful...it is an ugly beautiful.

We drove down to West Fork Arkansas today and picked up a new guardian for Peckerwood Farm. She is a Cane Corso and her name is Baci pronounced Bachi it means kisses in Italian.

No, seriously, @Weedygarden there's a trash bin right there and I've seen them barely glance at some of my junk and in it goes! While other stuff goes to a different thing, or is walked inside.
That's a cool story though.
I hesitate about getting rid of fabric I know I will probably never use but in the past have seen them throw it away (at G-will). Would like to be able to find another second-hand type of store.
Toilet will have to be repaired by someone else. The shut off knob doesn't shut off water flow. The flapper isn't seating in place until about 10 minutes after the flush.
Still many things to do...
Personally, I only donate books to Goodwill. I used to donate other stuff, but they are so big, and I am not a big fan of theirs. We have a few small thrift stores that specialize in helping locally. Some are completely run by volunteers, so all their profits are used for their own charity. I used to donate to one that was run by retired educators, all volunteers. All of the profits were used to buy a new outfit for back to school and for school supplies. They have moved too far from me now. Now I donate to a thrift store that helps homeless youth. It is a local program.

Donating: I want to give my stuff to a place that wants it and can use it. I have donated egg cartons to food banks that I know buy eggs in bulk and then give them out in used cartons. They always light up when I take in a bag of egg cartons. I donate cardboard from boxes such as cereal, crackers, etc. and t.p. rolls to a local art teacher who has a dismal budget. I've given her yarn and a variety of crafting supplies. I could throw stuff away at home myself, but I want to give it to the best possible place.

Such a beautiful family!

I have seen a few Cane Corso's in the neighborhood where I do most of my dog sitting and walking. I do not know about the breed. I will have to take a photo of the sign out front of one of the homes that I walk by with one of my furry friends.

Evidently they come in a few colors. I have only seen the black ones. Cane Corso - Wikipedia

In the town where I used to work, the little (non corporate) thrift shop I donated to was to help the local historical society. They did a ton for kids and to get them interested in history.

Jim Now that’s a post we like to see. Glad she’s feeling better. Telling her I said she still shouldn’t over do it 😉. If it’s from me, you won’t be nagging.
Y’All sleep well in peace and safety.

I would donate to that charity as well. It is important to me that my donation goes someplace where it has value, and that the profits are used for something important, not give someone a million dollar salary.

Trying to catch up on all the chores and unpacking from being evacuated. Gone for 5 days and never got any of last weeks chores done.

I did wash and dry the cat carriers so they can be put away and one has a hole in it. I ordered some gore-tex patches from Amazon to fix the hole and hopefully it holds out til it is no longer needed (less cats). I should have them tomorrow so I can have it patched asap. I plan to clean the velcro on all of them before putting them away as well.

K got my pantry cart done. We just need to paint it but I need it asap so painting can wait.

Worked on updating our emergency binder. I have a lot to go but at least I am working on it.

Got the boxes in the living room put away and empty ones broken down. I can see the floor in there again. K swept in there for me and I dusted. The furniture covers got washed and we will recover it all tomorrow.

Today is K's birthday so I made cupcakes for him. Tuesday is Juju's birthday so I have to make a cake then.

Several people have been arrested in CA, OR, and WA for starting wildfires. Not much in the news about it. The arson is on-going.

(CNN)The blame game over the Oregon wildfires is playing out across social media, and Facebook says it's stepping in to tackle some of the false claims circulating on its platform.
Law enforcement agencies have been flooded with calls about online rumors that members of Antifa, an anti-fascist, often far-left-wing movement, were arrested for setting fires across the state.
"Reports that extremists are setting wildfires in Oregon are untrue," the FBI Portland said in a tweet Friday.
Since the FBI and other law enforcement agencies confirmed the claims are false, Facebook spokesman Andy Stone said the platform will work to remove the rumors.

I've been donating to our little local thrift store. Staffed by volunteers, and proceeds go to Mennonite Ministries. They do alot to feed the hungry.
Mo, that is so sad you haven't seen your dad since March, and in Walmart of all places. I would go see him if I were you. If you're worried about covid, just sit outside in lawn chairs and visit. My mom is a royal pain in the butt, but she was decent today. And she needs to get out at least once a week for her own sanity. She was a crack up in Loews today, we needed some chicken run wire. She got her own cart and bought garden clippers. There is a gardener that takes care of outside her apartment, but she says he misses spots, so she has some clipping to do. Whatever makes her happy.

Cane Corso dogs are big and territorial, something not to be reckoned with at all, ever. A good friend had a Presa Canario, they look similar and are equally bossy. Cane Corso breed is a little taller. My friend had one person who could take care of his dog if he and his family had to leave home. Otherwise, the dog would basically shoot to kill. He eventually got another. He referred to the breed as Presser Canary.

I prefer to not have a dog with a mouth big enough to fit a child's head in it. But you go ahead.
Nice to see everyone's faces, @hashbrown

We had a rosey nose pit before the girls were born. She was the sweetest dog ever! We had 2 male corgis at that time as well. Delaney was still young and one of the boys bullied and beat her up so we opted to rehome her. Turns out the corgis were more vicious than any pit or other breed I have ever owned. It is the stubborn streak corgis have. That is why Winter and Summer are mixes and not pure corgi. Though I still want a pure cardigan corgi down the road.

Hello everyone and we have been busy here catching up on lots of needed jobs.

Last Tuesday we had our solar installed and next Tuesday they will connect our feed in tariff so we get a rebate on what extra power we are producing. We have been using most of our power in daylight hours and doing our laundry, charging laptops, mobile phones and baking our bread and today cooking a lovely roast chicken and vegetable bake.
Mind if I ask how much it costs and what all you need for solar?
My power company blows so we won't get power back for awhile and we are considering going solar to avoid this in the future.
I am going to do as little as possible. The smoke is so thick you can't see over 1/4 of a mile. Our air quality is rated as unhealthy and everyone is advised to stay indoors and limit activity. So that's what I am going to do.
Yikes. I hope you are safe. I have limited access to Internet and no TV but I saw something about fire tornados.
Gonna cook up some Chicken Scalopini for dinner later tonight.

Also need to start packing my bag for the hospital.

That's about it. Wife and I pretty much took care of everything else we needed to do before my surgery.
Chicken scalopini sounds good. We've been eating low sodium MREs. They aren't terrible but aren't great. Hope your surgery goes well.

Not getting much sleep between tlmy friend's baby and his grandfather. The old man has no respect for others and hollers for my friend at all hours of the night, waking up the baby and everyone else. Baby has been crying a lot as his mom is still trying to adjust and figure out what he needs. The grandfather isn't in urgent need of anything when he calls. It can be 2am and he'll holler and insist in talking to my friend and will want him to do something he could easily do himself or to tell him something he wants him to do later in the day. He doesn't care that my friend has a job and needs sleep. He also expects my friend to call in and spontaneously change work hours or ditch work entirely to drive him places. But the old man has an SUV and drives himself places all the time. He has a higher income than my friend but wants my friend to pay for almost everything for him. If he showed some appreciation and didn't treat people like garbage it wouldn't be so bad. I wish his home Healthcare helper was coming over to take care of him.
Despite my irritation, I've been nice to him and offer to help him so my friend can get some rest. Yesterday he had me emptying his nasty urine bottles into the toilet for him at 4am.
At least the baby isn't crying quite as much now. But I'm still glad I never had kids. Playing mommy to cows, cats, goats, pigs, and dogs was enough for me.
My cats were all inside today wanting food and cuddles. Dogs licked my face and cats sat on me. Rained so it filled water trough.

We live in an extremely rural area on a private road. I've always kept a dog around with a mouth big enough to fend off the the local Methicans.

Her dad is a fawn colored dog and the momma dog is black. This is the dad.
