Pastor Rick sounds like my kind of pastor. I remember when our pastor moved (escaped this state) and we got a new one. Just wasn’t the same.
Rick is my kind of pastor too. But he's 60 now and he and his wife have decided to step back from leading the church.

The new guy is kind of an "in your face" type. He will throw out a challenge and he'll speak his mind. That will cause problems and hurt feelings, but it may be what the world needs sometimes...

I guess time will tell. We ended up leaving our church. So did many others. Hope this new pastor works out for the best for your church.

I need to finish drinking my tea and go take care of the animals. Husband is already out there taking care of the chickens and chicks.
2 more weeks of feeding bottle babies then they will be cut off.
Something terrible happened yesterday, well, made me feel terrible for a little while. We ear tagged some little goats, and one of them jumped and ripped the tag right out of his ear :( Poor little guy. I disinfected it and put liquid spray bandage I got from the vet for something else on it and he appears fine but his ear is torn. Always something. We did not tag anyone else after that. So the rest of them need to be done at some point.
Did put up the first load of hay, large heavy bales it was a lot of work.
Went shopping, finally no more masks required at Walmart.
Cheated on my diet and baked a cake. I do that at least once every 2 weeks, so I don't get tired of trying to lose weight. I made a cherry streusel cake, was good.

Hope everyone had a good weekend

Getting ready to take little granddaughter to her last day of school. It's a half day, and we'll all go at 10 to see the awards. I have the twins for three days with no plans at all...except work that needs to be done around here. So, more garden needs to be dug, chicken coops cleaned out....lots of random stuff. A cousin may be down to help fix fence. The washing machine guy will be by this afternoon to fix the new to me Maytag electronic piece of garbage that we bought last week that's never worked. And then I have tons of laundry that's backed up to do.

Still sick with a cold. The respiratory crud isn't as bad now but the post-nasal drip has wrecked my digestive system. Spent most of yesterday in bed. Was too nauseous & had lack of appetite so I hadn't eaten. Got my brother to empty one of the kitchen trash cans (we have 3 spread out but he only ever empties the largest one) but the lazy sod didn't bother to put a new bag in. I put a new bag in and promptly filled it up with overflowed trash on the floor. I was going to pick up more (yes, there is more) but I got lightheaded and needed to lie down again. Cooked for mom a few times and then went right back to bed. Woke up with stomach troubles this morning and am trying to not move around too much. Can't find my pain meds so I had trouble sleeping (because I mostly sleep on my right side & my right shoulder/arm are aching). When I sleep on my left side it hurts my hip.

I'm not feeling as bad as I could be. Mostly just tired right now. I'm waiting for the meds to kick in. I'm hoping this will be cleared up by tomorrow when my friend comes to work on the plumbing (barring any more unforeseen issues).

Hope everyone else is having a better day.

It would seem grand daughter shared her 24 hour bug.
Been ill several times this morning.
Snoozing a lot, not hungry right now.
Will be giving up coffee for awhile, it gives me massive heartburn.
We'll see how long that lasts.........hmmmmm...........
Floors are dusted, furniture is dusted, got maybe 5 dishes to do up in the sink.
Normal day will walk after while.
Just as soon I'm sure nothings coming up again.
Snappy have a great trip.
I see pollen blowing in the wind. Wonderful, Angel kisses blowing all over the yard(dandelions).
Have watered all the potted plants on the front porch.
Be safe.

Changed the ending to my story, proof read (to the best of my limited ability) before posting in this Forum's Library.

Mowed all of the yards before the heat of the day.

Wife snores LOUDLY when sleeping on her back. I gently wiggle the bed and she rolls over is the trick! Don't work last night. She sleep very soundly and I didn't. Sat down on the couch for a minute this afternoon to check emails. Next thing I know it was two hours later! Nice nap, hope I sleep tonight.

Walk down the drive to retrieve the mail.

Fence material arrived today.

The old fence is in bad shape.

It once had a gate but that has been gone for a while.

Tomorrow we should be rebuilding the gate then there just another 100 feet to go.

Ben

I had it in mind to do some work in the garden, black zucchini seedlings need to get into the ground, thing is while letting the chickens out and getting the mail, it started to rain, however looking out the window now I see a lot of blue sky so maybe I can still do some planting.

You realize you can sell that aged wood from the old fence for a small fortune. Rust and weathered is an "in" thing.

Will check it out. I liked your last piece.

I didn't do many productive things today. Daughter felt a bit better this morning, still has a stuffed up nose and sinuses but no fever, so I got her to school. Made some calls about some used trucks, but nothing jumped out at me as being exactly what I'm looking for. Made a late breakfast of eggs, sausage, and toast. Then went to the gym and probably lifted a little harder than I should have. Making chicken jambalaya for supper. (No, not from scratch. Canned chicken and store bought jambalaya mix. I am a bachelor, after all...😂)

Glad she's feeling better Spike.

I will investigate but otherwise the granddaughters will have plenty of wood for a fort in the woods.

If you have it stacked up, snap a pix and put it on CL. Then you won't even have to haul off scraps.

BIL had a little shed/barn on some property he was going to put a match to - listed it and was paid several thousand and they came and disassembled and hauled it off.

I can confirm. The artsy/crafty types live to make stuff like picture frames out of that kind of wood in my area. If it's barn wood, so much the better. If your barn falls down in my area, random people will show up looking to buy the wood...

Feeling a bit better. Still tired but stomach is better. I wore a mask in public when I took my truck to get serviced. I told the clerk I has a cold so she was glad I wore a mask as she's immune compromised. I went outside when I needed to cough. Got an oil change & new brake pads put on. I provided oil, filter, and brake pads. They charge tax on labor so with tax the labor was $77. Not too bad considering how much some of the other places charge. I did get the truck an undercarriage wash before bringing it in. Road was very muddy on the way in. Guy who worked on the truck thanked me for getting it washed first.

I'm a bit too tired to do cleaning now, but I might clean later on.

Worked till 5PM BBQed some chicken, after dinner went back to work...

The wife's IV bag delivery line was full of air bubbles tonight, we were able to clear it using the prime function but she is mad as a hatter. She wants people to care about doing the job right and she just can't comprehend that the majority of the folks out there are just collecting a paycheck and passing time. The sad part is that she thinks by calling them up and yelling at them that they will do better.....

Taking mom to Lowes for a planter and more flowers today, and probably Aldi. The assisted living where she lives used to do grocery pickup for her, and now they're back to bringing them by van once a week to do their shopping. She won't go. So she goes to the little store where she lives and just gets junk food. She'll usually at least get lunch meat, bread, and bananas if I bring her, and not just living on ice cream and pie.
Putting the grandkids on cleaning out the chicken coops.

Yesterday I applied to go back to work part time at home depot. I was there before they started the mask mandate but quit when they said I had to wear a mask. I like the freight unload team, work from 7pm to 11pm and rarely have to deal with the customers. After completing the application on line I called HR and asked her to find my application. She said she had an opening in Flooring, I said no thanks so she said she would call if anything became available. Less than 2 hours later she called back and said they wanted me back on the freight team. I knew they would make room since I was a very good and dependable employee. Looks like I will have to go back out in public pretty soon. Ugh, I hate people.
Went for a motorcycle ride yesterday, used one of the GF's sons motorcycle for a 25 mile round trip down the 2 lane to the base of the mountain and back. First few slow speed 90* turns in the neighborhood were a bit nerve wracking but once we got to the turn around I was comfortable and had no problem making those turns when we got back into the neighborhood. It's been about 20 years since I rode so it was fun to be out again. Next year I am considering buying a new Indian Vintage, if things go well. Plenty of two lane back roads through the hills around here to enjoy some quiet time. We shall see.
As for today, drywall, drywall and maybe some drywall.

Hope everyone feeling sick or a bit off feel better. To the single dad with a 14yo daughter who's I'll I know your stress I raised two 95% by myself the youngest is still at home she'll be 16 in couple months so starting to drive. UGH!!!!!!! Oldest already gave me a grandson, I'm to young for that at 49. lmao!

Got a new drive belt on the Garden tractor. Then tilled down alongside what little corn has sprouted. Then did the same for the few sprouted taters. Got started watering all the trees I planted. Then had to stop to go setup and pump more water from the creek. Ran the tanks dry they are filling now. Once they are done I'll turn the sprinkler on the corn & taters I'll run the soaker hose on the peppers maters and garlic at the same time. It is crazy dry! Having a radio that gets music and that I can hear sure made the hours watering trees go faster. Okay maybe not any faster but a lot less of a bore!

Is it to early to say I'm tired?!

Intended to pick up mom today, but when I called to give her a heads up, she cancelled. She thought it looked cold outside. It's overcast, but 80 degrees. Ha. So no trip into town for her today. Husband and I went to look at some used greenhouses...the local amish guy had two small ones put together, and a really big one. He bought another property, 100 acres plus and two houses across the road from us, then did a whole new huge greenhouse for his wife. So these old ones are for sale at his old property, but I don't have a clue how to move them, and it be a big pain to try to disassemble them. Still thinking about it. Little granddaughter is slip and sliding with the neighbor boy, and the twins just finished cleaning out the coops, and are now walking ahead of the mower to pick up branches. I should be planting my watermelons.
I get you with the starting to drive teens...the twins will be 16 in a couple weeks. They start driver training class on Thursday. I taught our five to drive and it gave me too many grey hairs, so I put my foot down for the grandkids. They are going to have to learn in class or my husband can handle it. And it is a big hands off my car. But they are starting their class and I told them to save their summer work money to buy a clunker.

More work on replacing the fence today.

20210525_160255.jpg

The gate posts are set and backed up by cables and turn buckles. My brother is making good use of the gas powered post hole digger. I noticed he refered to the process as "drilling a hole".

It was 87 degrees so I took extra breaks to stay hydrated. It was my job to remove the old fencing to make room for the new. It didn't take long until I encountered massive amounts of poison ivy. I dodged to a large extent but when I spotted a red streak that was starting to itch I ran home to wash it off before it took hold.

I am not real bad with poison ivy but if I am not careful The Princess will get from me and she is very sensitive to it. The last time I had a small patch on my wrist she ended up with a bad case and had spread it other students of Kung Fu via the blockers they use in class.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to some much needed rain so I will work on the duct work project. It is much more fun than 87 degrees and fence replacement.

Cats stepped on my mute button for my computer so I didn't hear my alarm. Woke up late. Went to get friend to bring him out to work on plumbing. Sorted the mess with the post office so I can now get my mail again. Grabbed extra fittings & pvc + cpvc (separate cans) cement. Got friend out there and ended up not being able to work on plumbing because there's a big fat timber rattlesnake that was sitting right next to the pipe. I got a machete and friend tried to drag it out but it was not having it. It wanted it's naptime and to be left alone so it fled as fast as it could back under the house. Dogs are locked inside. Hoping cats will leave it alone until we can find someone to come get it.
Reached out to people on FB and friend put out feelers to find someone who can come.
Took truck back to repair place to find out why the brakes are squealing and ABS light is on. They had no idea what was wrong. Guess I'll have to take it to the dealership.

Re snake

I have never tried to catch a snake under the house but I through out an idea or thought.

Guessing the temp in the crawl space is right for the snake and doesn't need to come out to sun, therefore we can't try to nab it while it is outside.

So we have to exploit the snakes need to feed(could be a while) to try and catch it.

Suppose we live trap a rat for bait. Then devise a method of restraining the rat using possibly safety wire the critter cant chew off.

So far so good.

Now tether that harnessed rat on a short cable to restrict it's movement to the length of the tether.

Stake the end of the tether near the access to the crawl space , close of the crawl space and wait.

When the rat gets et there would be a tether down the throat of the snake and allow you to pull the snake out.

Bonus points

Deploy the snake to a remote location then cut the tether and let the snake go. Only the rat sees its demise and you can enjoy crawling under the crawl space.

Have a better idea?

Please share.

Ben

Ben, there is no way to close off the crawl space. Also, crawl space isn't large enough to really crawl easily. It's basically a house up on blocks but the ground underneath is not level so some places have space and others are too small for a human to get through.
Friend tried to hook the rattler with a shovel but it was an old shovel and the handle broke so it managed to get away. I shared a pic on a local group and asked about it and people shared it with snake sites & they said it may be a record size for my parish. They are interested in catching it. I've got some people I can contact if it shows up again.
Had suggestions from "shoot it" to "burn everything down" to "mothballs" to "suphur"... I was also sent recipes for bbq rattlesnake. LOL.

Ended up being somewhat productive. I cleaned up more in the kitchen, washed my brother's dishes as well as some pots and pans I needed to cook with, cleaned up the counter, cleaned the stove, removed the old burners so it can't accidentally burn stuff if turned on, put burner covers over the holes, set the new induction cooker on top, & cooked dinner.
