Rainy and cold today , so today I ground wheat berries into flour . In preparation for a future no grid lifestyle I use to grind wheat berries as well as corn into cornmeal a manual hand grinder that is attached to my wall . After that it is put into my manual stone mill and ground even finer . The product is sifted through an ordinary household flour sifter to separate any stubborn pieces that doesn't want to grind down . My wheat berries as well as my corn , I simply go to the livestock feed store and buy a bag of wheat or a bag of chopped corn to make table fare . -- None of that happy meal stuff from the fast food chains is likely to happen here . We save our money for prepper / survival goals . -- Folks that cringe and carry on about their finances , might want to consider a 50 pound bag of corn or wheat for about $ 10.00 a bag . Fifty pounds of flour will make a lot of biscuits and gravy . Fifty pounds of cornmeal will make a lot of cornbread .

Been working 12 hour days near Dix, Nebraska. We're building switches out in some rancher's hay field next to the tracks. The derailment wrecked his fence and in order to clear all the debris, I'd say our crews and the contractor crews have destroyed 30-40 acres of grass. I'm sure that rancher will be paid nicely for the damages.
It's a surreal scene out there. It was an intermodal container train. There several dozen wrecked containers out there with contents spilling out in the ground. One was full of ceiling fans. Another was full of pallets of Great Value toilet paper. One had Amazon packages in it. You never know what you'll see at a derailment.
We're fighting the weather. It was maybe 20 degrees, windy, and snowing today. We have a saying - "There's heat in a sledgehammer handle". And that's the damn truth. The only way to stay warm is to generate body heat by busting ass...

so I just got an alert on my phone that we have a flash flood warning and do not go anywhere, and watch out for rockslides that will cover you up if you are in the mountains ( we are) ...ok then. Looking up info of how to move to Portugal, supposed to be a cheap place to retire and easy to get visa
Son went out earlier to get his new phone switched over, glad he got back before the flash flood and landslides
what next, earthquake?
No lambs yet, just walked to the barn in the pouring rain with Otto, he did have to go out and is now soaking wet.
Binge watched all but the last episode of the last season of Cobra Kai
got nothing else accomplished today
We just watched one of the new Cobra Kai and it's been so long I almost needed a refresher

Went to Walmart to see if they had any candy on clearance but it was all gone before we got there. Bummer. Didn't really need it. Kinda just wanted one of the padded candy boxes for Mom.

Got Mom food, refilled water for doggies, fed Fippy, and got to laugh at him stealing Mom's food out of her hand when she wasn't paying attention. Also discovered that if she chokes he also shows no concern and tries to get at her food while Princess freaks out. That dog is opportunistic. LOL.

power is off, it's still raining, roads are flooded, good thing it is Sunday and son doesn't have to go to work
Generator is running since our solar batteries are not charged enough ( no sun)
We still haven't gotten a backup generator yet , it's on the list
About to go see if any lambs arrived last night. If they did it would probably be ok since it isn't that cold out right now
but they will probably wait for the next snowstorm on Wednesday and close to zero degree weather

The sun is out here, but only 18 degrees and it's not going to be warm today. My favorite cousin's daughter, in the big house next to her doddy house is having church today. She's been a whirlwind of cleaning the last three weeks in preparation, I'm sure they'll have a big turnout. Heard a bus of Old Order mennonites with their minister are in town on a mission thing and they'll be attending.
Just plan to fill a cart at Aldi this afternoon.

I ain't heard the world globalist folks , promoting all that global warming lately .

Bunkered down due to some strong wind/rain storms blowing thru.
It's a cold front that is forecast to bring in 10 days of low temps.
We had the Florida False Spring with beautiful weather in the mid 70's, trees were starting to bud too. Happens every year.

My wife, aka Prepper Woman, made an extra pot of coffee before anything else in case the power goes off.

Rainy day here. Yesterday cousins from down the shore came up here for a visit with Dad. He's up to eating pastina with meat sauce so we had a pasta brunch. Dad got his pastina with meat sauce (added extra mashed up freeze dried beef) and the rest of us had penna ala vodka and ceasar salad. Cousin brought dessert--chocolate cream pie. It was a much needed salve for my soul.

Tomorrow afternoon I take Dad to the radiologist for the moulding of his mask. Poor man is going to look like Hannibal Letcher before long. Also need to set up the radiation schedule. Still kicking around the idea of taking Family Leave Act time. May wait to see how he does with radiation. It's going to be six weeks, five days a week. I'm told that the first two or three weeks are easy--the remainder is going to be the bear. That's when I'll decide what to do. In the meantime we just keep experimenting with food consistencies so everything is not baby food like. He's good with the pasta, cream soups, pudding and custards. Today he ventured to tunafish salad. Success!!! Chicken salad is next.

I set up a small tabletop loom down here at his house. Need to get a warp on it and start exploring with it.

I haven't been outside today. The sun is shining through my window. Cats are piled on me.
Sonya, I hope you get power back soon. Glad its not a work day for your son. I remember when we had all sorts of storm warnings, town was shut down, & roads were closed but my brother's boss wanted the employees (but not himself) to go in to work. He threatened to fire them if they didn't and they all responded with some variation of golf foxtrot yankee. He wasn't willing to risk his own life to go in but wanted his workers to. They called his bluff. No one was going to be going out to Pizza Hut anyway.

Anyway, trying to motivate myself to cut up some chicken for some chicken soup later.

Filled a cart at Aldi, and the store was busy. Better today than tomorrow. Tomorrow night the bad storm is coming, so I'm sure it'll be busy. Picked up husband's prescriptions. We are good to hole up for the week. Before a storm, I focus on the F's: Fresh food, Feed, Firewood (on the porch), and Farmacy (ha ha)

That was son's very first job ( working at Pizza hut) but thankfully it was just a summer job , no bad weather then

Power is still off, just looked at the outage map, it went from around 27000 to around 65000 outages in the area ( Appalachian power) . Nothing new there, we are ok mostly without power. We run the generator 3 times a day to keep the freezers going and have all food that can spoil in one fridge right now running on solar. Our solar batteries were at 70% this afternoon, so we are ok. Also have phones and internet plugged into solar.

The bigger problem is the roads, once again there is trees on road, flooded roads and tomorrow more ice , then more snow coming. Husband just left the chains on the truck in case we have to go somewhere. Son does not have to go to work ( no construction being done in a snow storm ) if there is a lot of snow

Oh and we just spent an hour chasing and moving big fat sheep. Put the moms that are due in the warmer room in the barn. It's too small for all of them, but ok for the ones we put in. One sheep that is supposed to be pregnant and looks fat does not have a udder, so either she is very late, or is not pregnant or there is a problem ( first time mom) . We'll see. Checked all of them, a few look very close

Went to church this morning and then gave a young lady from church who can't drive a ride to Walmart and back. Then another woman I know who's husband was at work, needed a ride to the grocery store. Then it was time to relax, so I went to the bar and the bar manager was really drunk, so someone drove him home in his truck and I followed then to get the drive a ride back to the bar.

Well, all of that is a lot more productive than sitting at home.

GREAT deeds! A ride to the store is worth a million dollars when you need it!!

Sounds like she’s got her priorities straight. 😉
