There are plenty of survivalists who have even kept their preps secret from their own children (or even spouse). Very few people can keep secrets......as a survivalist you accept that, maintain OPSEC accordingly and move on.

Yup, our own kids don't know exactly what we have, or why for that matter. We encourage them to prepare, but none of them do.

We just keep stocking and not a word.

According to some, I am not "group" material! I thought I was aiming for "real" conversation! It's time for it!
Without Pearl this place would lose flavor, not to mention insight. pearl can hang her rifle in my rack anytime.
Hang in there Pearl, I like you, and I hardly like anybody, hence I'm a hermit. :)

Well said, i was just going to post something similar

Pearl I have no idea why you would think someone thought you were not group material . I haven't been on this forum long but quickly realized you were one of the best assets to this forum . I certainly am glad you decided to stay .
I let a couple of comments hit me the wrong way! I'm more resilient than that! Thank you!!

This is a great thread.
We have a BIL, just purchased (and can see the Cascadia thing happening)- I am worried about my kids, my son living in CA and having to come up north in a SHTF situation, and my daughter soon to be there in college.
Our BOL is with my brother and sister in law, very remote, thankful we have skills and equipment to be helpful and they would want us to be there. If we had to go to the BOL, we would load up our supplies in the RV and head out, but of course would be concerned about the crazies en route (as it is 2 states away).

Does your RV hold enough gas to make it all the way to your BOL? That might be an issue in the event of a widespread power outage. Gas pumps would not work. Not to mention all the panicked people running interference - lining up to get gas out of non-working pumps.

Its a travel trailer, so we would hook it to our pickup with the gas cans in the back. And you are right about that! Would need to hide the gas cans somewhere for sure.

Just attach one of these to the gas cans and leave them in the back of the truck. Good to go!

Groups are great when:
1...

, I have never read a post by someone saying "Oh yeah.....I have prepped to feed my whole town....so I know they will stay cooperative and dedicated to our groups surivival....."

.......

Even those you are charitable to and feed will be unreliable. We live in a society of mostly ungrateful people.

Thought exercise...

During the great depression there wasn't rioting in the streets but there were long soup lines...

Supplying a small local church with beans and rice spaghetti dinners could help prevent desperation.

How would one go about delivering basics to the church without being detected?

I can't think of a good way. Once it is known the church has a food supply, without adequate security, they will fall victim to raids. I sure wouldn't count on protection because it's a church. Perhaps a guarded "distribution/collection" delegation visiting houses, either to collect or distribute? Or collection during services?

These are such different times! People knew how to live differently back then. The government made work programs to help people help themselves. People helped each other. It's not like that at all now, and the good people that are out there would be robbed by the rest! Our government is NOT going to help anyone, just a few of their own!

Disguise yourself with a long robe like the priests wear (I personally find them creepy), and duct tape on bags of rice to your legs and arms and stomach and walk very slowly.
Or disguise it as something else...Friar Tuck comes to mind. He hid lots of liquor in his barrels.
I like the duct tape idea. The church I have in mind is a block or 2 away and attended by people in the neighborhood.

I should set up a meeting with the minister.

Keep them ideas coming!

I think you would have to have the soup lines moved every week or so or else people would hijack the supply truck.... Look what has happened to the food trucks in Africa, they get redirected by the local war lord or who ever is in control on that given day... food becomes control.

We are not the people our great grand parents were, they had respect for others and a high work ethic, today we have neither....

For the most part those days are gone and unfortunately the church taken as a whole has brought this on themselves by being lukewarm. I'm a Christian and refuse to drink Kool aid or associate with cotton candy country clubs.

I recognize the luke warm reference from The Revelations.

Aside from churches what other ways could one help the hungry without becoming a target?

We do it right now, everyday, here on this forum. Trying to teach people how to not end up in this situation.

Every post we have ever made trying to help people is an act of charity.

We know that later, it will become much harder.

But the truth is, if you really want to help people in a bad situation, you just take the risk and become a target. I've been there, in the 3rd world. I knew what I was getting into and took my chances.

No, I don't look like this anymore so I'm not breaking opsec (much) here:

But yeah, in case you think I never put myself out there....here I am in a an utterly screwed up, compromised situation with no security, in the name of doing the 'right thing' in a third world hell hole.

Nothing bad happened to me. This time.

I like to think I'm older, wiser, more cynical now than I was then. Honestly at the time, I didn't even really care if I ever came home and was willing to just take whatever happened to me. Not that way anymore.

In case your curious....this was in Kroo Bay, which is notorious in certain circles.

That it will!

Maybe visit the church looking like I am looking for help but doing the opposite....?
