Hubby cracks me up...I came in from getting groceries, he is standing there with arms outstretched...holding a measuring tape...."Honey, measure me from finger to finger"...and so I did....."WHY???"....."because that is how wide HOMBRE's horns are " !!!!!!

and they were 63 inches across

we went to visit with abused sil today and wound up talking about hunting and fishing. nice visit and sil seems to be doing a lot better. her son said she would not be leaving her home ,so he can make sure she is taken care of. she begged hubby to let it not be this long before she sees him again . i promised it wouldn't be. so when i get everything taken care of at home i will saddle him up there or invite them here. it's going to be good to be around our extended family more often. FAMILY:huggs:

We got a couple of inches of badly needed rain yesterday. It’s been over cast since. Late this afternoon I drove down to the big town in my old truck (no a/c). It was a pleasant drive, cool, temps in the high 70’s. I needed a few groceries. I was out of small red shrimp for seafood hot&sour soup, out of shitake mushrooms, only one bottle of soy sauce left in the pantry. I only spent about $40 on groceries. I did stop at the good BBq shack. I picked up a pound of slice meat for sandwiches. I also got a pint of sauce as I was running low at home. I got another rain on the way home, saw ambulances with lights on 3 different roads going different directions. I never saw a car accident… dunno! I only got about 1/2 inch of rain at home.

Lots of to do's around the house today before a very long day at work tomorrow. Going to Sams this morning, and hopefully dutch oven cooking tonight. Meant to last week, but husband had that fall so it didn't happen. He's still at home all this coming week. Hope to get the rose potpourri that I made packaged and ribboned properly and put away in the "gift trunk". Incubator full of chicken eggs has another day to go. Sold two Rhode Island Red laying hens yesterday to a neighbor. I'll probably put a sign out for chicks, young birds, and layers for sale (and eggs!) soon. The feed store doesn't have them anymore for sale, all out. Am collecting duck and turkey eggs to put in our small incubator, probably sometime this week.

Saw three bunnies hopping around our garden this morning but nothing is up for them to eat yet.

We see 3 bunnies hoping around our yard every several hours.:ghostly:. We say ' rabbit 'and the dog star after them. Garden area has welded wire fence then chicken wire up a coupel feet so rabbits seldom get into that area. It was work and expense but has paid off for for several years.

Reinforcing ,repairing another pen for pullets. Cooking, and weeding ornamental garden.

Few things are sweeter than retirement!
Lost power today due to a bad storm.
Myself and everyone else were okay about it.
Glad when the electric came back on...
My fish aquarium cannot run without electricity... :dunno: So, gotta figure out a way to keep the filter running for the fish, when the power is out.

Small solar set up?

The rain finally stopped last night sometime and the sun is shining today.

Hubby and I have been measuring the roofs of the house we're replacing ( and the sunroom also). And he's been doing the calculations on how much metal and rubber we'll need.
He's been buying up treated lumber thats on discount for months now and we had to go through that to see what more we'll need

He'll be taking a week off work starting the 26th so we can get the one roof done ( front part of the house). Its been getting the most sun damage over the years since it faces south

I do not like being on the one roof ( back part of the house). Its really up there and at an angle that makes me uncomfortable. ugh.

We're in our 60's so this metal roof will outlast us. The one we're replacing has been on the house for 25 years now so its time to get it done before we can't do it. We built this house ourselves ( when we were in our late 20's) along with help from other tradesmen hubby worked with.

Good Idea. I really like solar.

To run the entire aquarium on solar would require at least a 100 watt solar panel, plus the batteries to support it, and the other supporting equipment. It's doable, and easy to do, if I had the stuff. I'm going to look into it, and that's a really good idea.

For now, I'm thinking a small inverter. When I get to WM, I'm going to pick up an ac inverter, so that I can run the tank off a long extension cord, from the tank to the car battery, when needed.

The aquarium is the only thing in my home that needs constant electricity. Otherwise, I wouldn't need a source of electrical power.

That must be a huge aquarium. But yes it is doable. I like aquariums too. I just don't need anything else to clean or care for now.

Went to Sams, put groceries away vacuumed, swept, took care of animals, super cleaned our bedroom and bathroom, sent some business email, did some dishes, did lots more dishes, cooked rice for the chickens, did 4 loads of laundry . Getting ready to set a new brooder up. Chicks are pipping. Then dutch oven ribs, chili beans, and veg outside.

I'm working on downsizing from a 220 gallon to a 75 gallon.
And YES!, it can be a lot of work, especially being saltwater.
Have had thoughts of selling it, but my niece has developed a real interest, and it seems to be better for her than watching TV when she visits. ;)

Use a uninterruptible power supply used to keep critical computers powered during power outages. $550 for a APC UPS 1500 that provides 1,000 w. Run you aquarium for 10 hours. Smaller models for less money and less run time. It what I use to keep by DSL powered during outages.

We keep a trail camera on our patio table. Usually we just get pics of bunnies or the gray fox who is a regular visitor. However when I reviewed the pics for the last week I found a poor picture of a wolf on Friday night. We do have the re-introduced Mexican wolves around here and I have seen many of their tracks. Many of our neighbors have seen the wolves up-close-and-personal.
Here is the poor pic (he is on the left side). Its OK if I don't get another.
Here is a pic of the gray fox for size.
