This morning I picked up paving stones to try to stop tracking mud (I hate clay)... Have the day off so I have lots of outside work planned for today.

The son and his friend are still visiting, she is nice (I was pleased to hear that she is trying to grow plants and do food storage), he could have stayed in NY, he has become and arrogant socialite who is above our hick status....

If I hear 1 more complaint about me hording food, I'm going to let him go hungry when the SHTF day comes..... But, hey he's family and when arrogant elitists get hungry, they get humble....

It'll take today to get people back to normal, they evacuated everyone out of Haven (1100 people) and many hung out in our town of half that. We don't have a motel or anything like that, so some went to the bigger town another 15 miles out. They just told everyone that they could go back home about an hr or so ago. At midnight last night, it was everyone out for 3 days and close the highway. Glad it'll settle down.
Have a lot of to do's to do today around here. The weather will be decent, so will be getting some in ground seeding done.
Sorry about your visit, Urban. Some of our guests are prepper friendly, and that makes it so much fun. The girlfriends and boyfriends of our kids are always interesting. I generally will ask if our child has told them about us before they get here and our way of living. And I know that they have. The weirdo gf our son brought thought we had dumped her on another planet staying here. The bf of one of our daughters loved it all, loved the people and what we do. He's been here a couple of times. We have a new one to meet, our youngest daughter's bf. She is seemingly serious about him, first one that she is. She is an emergency room pharmacist MD and he is an EMT. I wonder what she'll tell him. It's the telling part I find interesting. Our oldest daughter and her husband and kids used to make fun and really think we are nuts (about 10 yrs ago). They now live outside of Seattle, and they don't make fun anymore after covid. Now she calls and asks for ideas.

Sand drywall mud, apply 2nd coat on
last wall.

I'm getting a little eggsited.

Got an appointment with Electrophysiology at 2:45 pm.

So gotta leave by noon, 45 minutes to big town. Grab a Freddy's, go sit in parking lot of Snobby Lobby for ??.

Then to the hospital.

Then home and collapse.

Oh ,btw, we couldn't possibly go all day without rain and storms moving in this afternoon.
🙄🤬

Was snowing earlier but now melting. It's supposed to be my day off to work on some projects of my own, but it's been commandeered. The Azure truck broke down yesterday so is now scheduled to arrive today - right in the middle of the day. My uncle is visiting from Utah (staying with the folks) so will go see him/them this evening. Leaving for an overnight install tomorrow morning so need to get things ready. Installing a metal hearth in a friends cabin and will spend the night there which should actually be nice. Also, need to clean my kitchen - how does it get like this? Blek! Well, here I go. Y'all have a great day & color some eggs 🐇

@LadyLocust , I thought you were installing mental health
In a cabin and staying overnite with it .

I can't read.

Jim

I read mental hearth. I can't read either. LOL

Already walked and will walk dogs.
The rest of the day will be spent pressure canning breakfast burritos in a jar. I have 3 dozen eggs and almost 3# pork sausage.

And the dehydrator works great! Including the timer. I've got to start looking for things I already have to dehydrate!

Hoping for a quiet day at work today - most of the company has today off but the Utah offices work today in exchange for "Pioneer Day" off in July, so I'm hoping that the phone will be quieter today and I can play catch-up a bit. Tomorrow I hope to install trim in the master bath and put that project to bed. If the weather cooperates, I want to get the raised beds ready for planting and do some more work on the greenhouse and she-shed.

The weekend will be a success if I can resist the urge to buy chicks - I already have 6 in the incubator (plus 2 dozen quail), but the local hardware store has them on sale for $1 ea...

Enjoying the twins this morning. Found junk food in pantry after scrambled eggs that they didn’t eat. Realized when my shirt was wet that I needed to change diapers on both. Did get boy to pee outside. Forgot once you change diapers, it’s going to fill up with something that requires wipes to clean up. They have been great and not gotten into too much. Mom will pick up after lunch. Husband went to feed store and picked up feed, fertilizer and few more seeds for garden. Starting 2 nd planting on some things and completely planting garden.

What's going on with this drywall compound.
I use to put this stuff on and it was ready to sand in 2 hrs.

I tried the red bucket. Green bucket ,and blue bucket.
I put it on yesterday morning....24 hrs later it's still wet in the corners.
Just another possession going on in this evil room.

Another delay.

Uuugghhh

Jim

I know the feeling brother.
Took me 3 months to put rim in bathroom, after all the rest was done...

Same thing for the laundry room.

Just not in it.

Jim
Yea, I have a history of getting rooms 90% done and leaving the trim for years - so I want to get this one done before moving on to the next project.

Hope you can get the room of doom done soon!

I used a half hour of my day off to go up to the church coffee shop. I haven't been there for six weeks, and it was nice to be there again. The only other people there were a group of young mothers with their babies, so there really wasn't anybody to interact with besides the lady who runs the shop, but I've missed my routine of going up there on my days off.

The weather is nice today. The kids helped do some farm branch clearing all morning with husband. He drives the tractor, and they load up the bucket. We did so much last year, but there's alot of land still to clear. I got the animals taken care of, more spinach planted, and a row of mustard greens planted. I keep replanting my spinach in a really big planter in the greenhouse and it keeps disappearing. Found I have a rolly polly problem in there. Picked out all I could find, sprinkled DE in there, and reseeded it.
Getting ready to go seed green beans.

Daughter finally came to visit that's nice. We had nice weather also and a decent day. No animal problems either. Her and brother are now playing a game, tomorrow we plan on all playing but I am too tired today. We put up some fencing this afternoon when the kids went into town to get smores supplies....( no they are not 12 but they still occasionally want to do kids thing). We are going to have a fire tomorrow (outside not in the wood stove) and grill steaks

Electrophysiologist was happy with me today.
Told me he was impressed at how well I was doing.

He said keep doing what I'm doing...I said you mean keep working my arse off.

He laughed and said... yep.
Not many your age can do what I do.

No changes.

Left there feeling pretty good.

Stopped and got a large chocolate milk shake.😎

250 miles and I have a new 22cuft freezer, $1100 and change. About $50 a sqft. GE brand. I found another one (located 1 miles from this one) for $800, scratch and dent Kenmore brand name on it. It was 17.- cuft. I got the bigger one through the power company. Handy. If there is a problem I can return it to the small town just up the road a ways.

For the last 2 years I’ve tried to talk dad into letting me get a new one. We go in halves of big items and he wouldn't budge. In fact I was going to get a little 8cuft model for myself. Priced it last week.

I had to get a cousin up to help me unload the new one, 230lbs. While we were unloading it I got dad to try to remember when he bought the old Kelvinator. Best guess, 1968, some of you were in Vietnam that year. It even survived and F-4 tornado in '74. I think we got our money out of it, 54yrs isn't to shabby. American made! (when that meant something)

I checked the old freezer after the tornadoes wednesday night and the compressor was running then, sounded normal. Sometime after that it died. We got a lot of lighting that night, even after the storms. Either it was lighting or it just died. I know some stuff is lost. It needed to be cleaned out anyway. But, it’s the start of the summer veggie season, won’t be hard to refill the new one.

I have it cooling now, put a small bottle of water in it so I’ll know when it’s cold. I didn't realize how bad the old one looked until I got the new one beside it.

Day 2 of work, just as crazy as yesterday.
Forgot it's Easter weekend, until some of the nurses hid a ton of eggs around the unit and we would find them in various spots. :D
Snowed pretty hard last night and this AM. I'm a bad prepper, I left my snow boots and snow stuff at home! So my work running shoes it is --not great in the snow.
Had a sad case today where a patient progressed to brain death. The hospital still has all sorts of rules due to COVID, never mind that we had 9 cases in my huge hospital.... It's frustrating as families want to be with their loved ones -- and at death we are still only allowed to let them come 2 at a time and they have to switch out. Of course the administration; the ones who make the rules don't deliver the news, it's up to the nurses, nurse practitioners and physicians. (that's a whole separate rant).
This was a large family, 7 kids and a couple spouses. They were very religious and wanted to sing and pray with him. So after the family meeting when I delivered the bad news with the neurologist, I snuck them into his room two at a time until all 11 of them were in there. Then we shut the curtain and the door. I was waiting to get in trouble but I didn't. Anyway they were so sweet. You kind of learn to disassociate in my line of work, and today was a little rough to do that with this family.
Worked 12 hours, then went to the gym for 2 hours, ran 3 miles and lifted weights a bit.
Now I'm about to collapse but figured I would pop in and say hi.
@phideaux glad your EP appt went ok!
@Amish Heart glad that explosion wasn't too close to you. Your pharm/MD daughter and the EMT should have a lot in common, that will be fun to watch!
@LadyLocust enjoy your time at the cabin!!

hope you all have a great Easter weekend!

You have a great Easter weekend too!!

Hey Phideaux, the Walmart was so busy because it is Friday and it's also the 15th. Free money comes in.
I refuse to shop on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Just too busy. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are good unless it's the first of the month
Amish, I am right there with you about these days and times. I sometimes shop on Friday morning, but Friday evening can be a challenge I don't want to deal with.
I know that the week before a holiday that stores are extra busy. Yep, Friday, Saturday and Sunday are usually crazy busy. I know if I were to go to the store on Easter Sunday, there would be all kinds of people in there buying their Easter dinner, any time of the day. Me? I had started more than a week in advance doing my shopping for it.

Keep working on that utility room😃😃

Just went back to check the new freezer. The 14oz bottle of water I put in when I plugged it up was frozen rock solid.

I started to put the last 4 bags of ice in the old freezer. I realized I had about 40lbs of meat barely covered at the top, just a couple inches of ice. Couple of vacuum sealed bags of ground chuck(1/2lb) were starting to get a little soft (surface). (Should be fine for a meat sauce or chili etc.)

Anyway, I moved all the meat over to the new freezer. The bags of shrimp and catfish were still solid a foot down. I moved them anyway, I was worried about them. Anyone notice the price of shrimp lately? I use shrimp in stirfrys, hot n sour soup, several asian dishes.

Shrimp has gotten so expensive I've been thinking of making a couple crawfish baskets and take them to the swamp. Crawfish are easy to bait, eat darn near anything.

You'd think that, but not from my experience they only get more condescending & demanding. They whine even more. They act all untitled and ungrateful. Some might change their tunes, but a lot don't. I went to school with a bunch of them.

I won't complain about hoarding since I'm a bit of a hoarder myself.

It rained most of the day so I didn't get anything done. Puppies knocked the trash over again. Little dog, Fippy likes to grab them by the ears, yank them to the floor, and hump their heads while they whimper and cower. He's half their size but has twice the attitude. I had to pull him off of them.

I picked up mail, got stuff at Walmart for Mom, and brought her home some fillet of fish & a mocha frappe from McDonalds (all per her request).

Kidney stones are still kicking around so I'm not feeling great, but I've been worse.

Haven't heard from my best friend the past couple of days but I assume he's resting.
