In the Southwest, yard work is a combat mission...

I just pulled and cut the tall weeds under the bird feeders, they were getting tall enough that Tiger was using them to ambush birds. That darned Tiger is a stone cold killer, so I have to give the birds a fair chance, otherwise he'll kill several a day. Yesterday he caught a hummingbird, just by launching himself straight up out of the weeds... I don't like to see him do that, so this morning I trimmed everything back beneath the feeders. For the same reason, I also cut down the weeds near the birdbaths & quail blocks.

Bad news: this morning I noticed that I have a fair crop of goathead vines flourishing in the yard, mainly on the southern end of the property. Last thing on earth I want is more freakin' goatheads in my yard... the good news is that the vines are still green, so the goatheads are still on 'em. My trash bin is too full to accept any more weeds until the bin is emptied next Monday, but goathead eradication just moved into a priority slot with the home rehab. I'm gonna remove every last one of those nasty things from my yard, even though it'll be a PITA. Might take two weeks, there are heaps of 'em. :(

Anyway, I'm about due for a self-administered haircut, we still have the dog days of August ahead, and I gotta stay cool... so it's time to bust out the electric clippers and attachments, lol. Meh, it doesn't take that long, and I've been cutting my own hair for over a decade now... I started doing it to save money and skip the hassle of going to a barbershop and waiting my turn. Takes me about 10 minutes to trim the sides & back, I don't touch the top because there's only so much up there, lol. Angled attachments for the upper sides & back, 1/8" flat attachment for everything below, razor on the neck... and done. ;)

Otherwise, I'm still seeking motivation to start painting... I talked to a friend about this weird lack of motivation, and I told him that I was sick of home rehab, this is the third home I've rehabbed in six years. On the other hand, I want to get the goldurned painting done so I NEVER have to do it again, lol. Once I'm done painting this home, I hope to be dead before it needs paint again... one way to solve the problem, lol. So death actually has ANOTHER benefit, besides no more taxes and no more scumbag politicians: it also means NO MORE HOME REHAB WORK, lol. :woo hoo:
We have goatheads out the yazoo!

Sorry about your mishap, @TeeJ . Hope you feel better soon!
@LadyLocust , you are welcome here anytime!

Walked first and walked dogs.
I had a 6 or 7 pound tenderloin, so cut it in half. Made Sweet balsamic pork roast in instant pot with half. Made slow cooker bacon garlic pork loin with other half-- it is still cooking.
Pressure canned 11 quarts of turkey stock using one pressure canner twice. I burned sugar on one burner of glass top and am waiting for special tool to arrive tomorrow. Anyway, the second batch of stock is cooling in canner now.
I have spent enough time in the kitchen lately and have enough meals to last awhile!

Thanks for the wellwishes everyone! I'm never going to complain about wearing my hardhat at work again!

Catching up at work today heard our St. Louis plant flooded overnight - water in the buildings higher than the desks/workbenches. It's going to take forever for them to get it cleaned up and back in business. shows the scope there, 10+ inches in an hour . I tell you what, isn't it a shame we couldn't magically transport all that water to the southwest?

@Wingnut & @Faez - I never knew what they were called before. I hate those things. My wife uses purslane medicinally so we usually let it grow so she can harvest it and I can never tell the difference between it and goatheads until they get bigger. The darn thorns from those things are awful, it always seems to get mixed in with our gravel and I get a couple stuck in my hand anytime I weed our gravel paths, which we have 100+ feet of...

Procrastinating going out in the heat. Need to fix the water hose that my grandpa hit with the lawnmower yesterday evening 🤦‍♀️ Also procrastinating writing a paper for one of my classes. Still trying to fix my sleep schedule from a week of night shifts and subsequent stress induced insomnia.

I'm in the chair at the dentists office and the whole left side of my face is numb. I'm about to go under the drill. Probably going to cry like a child before it's over. :eyeballs: 🤣
If you really don't care for the later appointment, you could ask for an extra shot 😂
Hope it all goes smoothly & you're relieved of the pain.

So I'm hearing.....when LadyLocust is done cleaning my house and reorganizing my office, she is going to your house Snappy!! I'll give you the heads up on how she does!!😁🤪

@TeeJ I'm glad you're ok and you listened to your wife!

@Spikedriver Good luck! I was told a root canal might save my broken molar so I decided to just have it yanked. No one sees it anyway. 😆

I took my son to have his wisdom teeth removed today. It went well according to doctor but son is grumpy. But he also hasn't slept in like a day so I'm hoping he'll feel better tomorrow. I just did some stuff around the house, back to work tomorrow.

This is the original patent for TP.
So ends the discussion. 😄

If any of you live east of farmville / southill VA ya better watch out we just had about the worse storm I've ever seen. Water coming down my driveway was up over the tires of the golf cart in to the wheels and there was enough force to push the cart back a few feet!

Had to look them up, never seen one. Thankfully there are none around here.

Here in the south we had the "Sandspur" aka Cenchrus echinatus. A nasty piece of work, the bane of barefoot children everywhere. It's seeds are similar to the goathead.

Nothing today but some house work...

You didn't know what goatheads were??? I'll send you some. If you don't want them, just toss them out. 😂

Note* I wouldn't do that to anyone!

Magus, I'm glad your tooth treatment went well.

Teej, hoping you're doing ok.

Goshengirl, also hoping everything went well for your son.

Monday I took my friend to the dentist to have his dentures adjusted (they were rubbing his gums in a spot). They do adjustments for free apparently. He wants larger canines but that is something he'll have to discuss with them when he gets more permanent dentures. I'm still worried his gf may try to deliberately break his dentures.

Today I went to walmart to pick up some RXs and get a few things. Mom forgot to mention she was out of potato salad (but is pretending she told me - she has a habit of thinking something without verbalizing and then expecting me to have read her mind).

Yesterday I got a haircut and its so nice having shorter hair again. I hate having long hair. Mine is now shorter than my brother's hair.

I was going to make shepherd's pie for dinner but Mom wasn't feeling well. Instead I got her some "gingerbread tea" (couldn't find ginger tea in the cabinet) and made her some chicken soup. Hooray for swanson's chicken broth and boneless skinless frozen chicken thighs. She liked the soup at least.

Trade Ya!!! ours looks just like grass, especially coastal bermuda hay. It likes sand, grows great near beaches (thats not on the brochure). Send a bunch of barefoot kids out to play and one will hop back begging for help getting it off their foot. The goat head looks just as nasty...

Sand Spurs - guaranteed to make a kid cry! 😁

My "Turtle" car is 2015 FIAT 500 Lounge, that has 14734 miles on it.
Black metallic paint with gold pinstripe, red and white leather interior, heated seats, mirrors, headlights, sunroof.
My Fiat will hold 1 car seat facing frontward,1 booster seat and 1 kid in the middle, 2 adults.
It also has a trunk with "Beats" stereo, 6 speakers etc.
When I bought it in April 2017 it had 31 miles on it.
It should be paid off in 14 months.
It a was a kid's graduation gift, but he didn't like it.
So parents traded it in for old beater Ford pick up for him to take to college.
My grand daughters call my car a "Turtle" because the shape reminds them of a turtle.
Well got an update on the car.
It's not a gas cap.
Not even close.
I would have danced with the mechanic in the street if it had been that.
Even without alcohol induced dancing.
Nope it the O2 sensor.
Emergency fund will be taking another hit this week.
Oh, well, it's only money and you can't take it with you.

We had to plead no contest to verbal abuse. The word lazy I used and was recorded. And the bad word husband used. Took most of the afternoon. Then had to meet with the therapist again. Granddaughter brought her car home, what a wreck. I'm happy to see child services all over those two for the next 2 months. They have so many therapy appts, it's not even funny. And we dont even have to drive them there.

Amish Heart,
I'm sorry you and your family is going through this.

Hopefully they will "enjoy" their services!! The more the merrier, at least a break from them!!🙃

Our lawyer was pretty miffed we had to plea. She offered an alternative that she can request a certified document of our guardianship from New Mexico, where it was issued seven yrs ago, register it in Kansas for us. Then if they go nuts on us again before June 11th, we can give up our guardianship and they can be given to the state and go to a group home. Don't know if we'll do that or not, but we did tell her to request the document since that takes a month or so to get. I didn't want to go to trial because it would shake up the community on who would be called for character witnesses. One side against the other. We have the amish side, and they have offered to stand up for us, but the people standing up for the twins also live in the community. It wouldn't be pretty, and I didn't want to go there. So I stand with the no contest to verbal abuse calling grandson lazy. On my permanent record now. Of course, the twins are pretty chuffed about it.

I really think they are biting off more than they can chew!!

Who? The therapists? The kids and the therapists don't know we have that ace in the hole that the lawyer mentioned.
The kids are monster children. Granddaughter informed us that it is not illegal to record people in the state of Kansas. The therapist told her it is unheard of to do that to your family. 320 days if we make it that far.

I'm thinking the kids are in for quite a bit of something they won't want!!

@Amish Heart, I don't know if this is right of me, but I'm rather hoping that something comes to a head so that you don't have to go through all 320 days. I don't think the twins will learn anything (or come to a sudden epiphany) in foster care - but I also don't think they're going to learn anything staying with you and your husband. They're not reachable at this point, and they're being coddled by a system that won't allow for the foundation and boundaries they need. You and your husband need relief, and little granddaughter needs to not be afraid.

@goshengirl How's everything going? Everybody okay so far?
So far so good! The transplant went well. He's not eating or sleeping much, but it's not critical at this point. The medical team is always telling us that this will be hard - but so far nothing's been harder than what he's already gone through in the past. I know we aren't at the worst of it yet (and there's still a long road of recovery ahead), but I remain hopeful. The next 100 days are key, with the next 20 being crucial.
