Our oldest daughter and her family moved there four years ago, and for the life of me, I can't understand why they live there. Her kids are now young adults, and pretty messed up. Our two younger daughters are going there to visit her for Thanksgiving, and that should be interesting. We had rainstorms all night long, and am anxious to check on our junior turkeys this morning to see how they fared. I really need to retarp their run...the wind shredded the last one, and I'm sure they got wet last night. Christmas "open house" and bake sale in our small town today, so little granddaughter and I will go. A very large fall farm auction going on all day too, but not sure if we'll get there. The twins are taking off to a wedding, and I'm sure I won't see them at all. We did get the monster closet rack and shelf thing put together and in my side of the closet, so I'll be busy cleaning out stuff and getting things back in the closet.

I hope everyone is having a good day. Yesterday I went into town to get mail. Cow wouldn't move from out behind my truck as I was backing out so I had to slow crawl back and tap her with the back bumper to get her to move. Decided to stop at TSC and grabbed some electrical tape, some mini clamp thingies that were on clearance, and cow feed. Mom wanted McDonalds since I can only cook on the stove until outlet for microwave is fixed so I grabbed that and got her a free coffee with a receipt code. Got home & rain started coming down hard but cows were circling my truck like sharks. So I fed them and got inside as quickly as I could. I need to figure out some more recipes using the stove and pressure cooker with stuff we have. I have too much microwave stuff.

Today I'm trying to motivate myself to get up. I'm surrounded by cats and Sir Hammington is on my lap. He's such a sweet kitty- loves to rub his face on mine and likes head-kisses. The cool air is refreshing right now. I took my allergy meds and am planning what I will do when I actually get up. I need to haul trash out, organize stuff in the kitchen, & bring stuff in from the truck. If it is cool enough in the rest of the house it won't be as bad.

I have to take my son to a party this morning, which means we miss church. That aside we need to move animals, process some chooks and I'm keen to get into my garden this arvo and add compost for more springtime panting. Some things should probably be in already but we live in the mountains and occasionally a frost comes much later than we expect.
My husband is laying flooring and he hopes to get our room finished, though I am cheering him on to finish our daughters' small room too because then the job will be finished, which will be a wonderful thing to finally get out of the way.

I might make rissoles for dinner with mince. I'm not sure what you call them in America. Do you have rissoles over there? It's like mince meat (ground beef?) mixed with onion, herbs, an egg or two and some stale bread and shaped into a patty and fried. No doubt you have something similar. :)

Had some sunny weather today so we got the final posts in for the framing where the solar panels will go. It was 40 degrees but with the windchill was more like 25 degrees.
Getting ready to grill up some ribeyes, asparagus and potatoes for dinner.
Our washer and dryer will be delivered tomorrow or Monday and I am so happy about not having to go to the laundromat anymore. Last time I was there my clothes got stuck and it was a half an hour before we could get them out (some old washer). Dried them for over an hour and they still weren't dry. I definitely have better things to do than to sit in a laundromat all day.

sounds like my recipe for "Meatloaf"

Shape is a bit different, but I might try yours :)

In Australia and New Zealand, a rissole is patty of minced meat and other ingredients, without a pastry covering but often covered in a breadcrumb coating, similar to Hamburg steak and Salisbury steak.

Windstorm today, this old house is groaning and flexing and I can smell the fresh air that has forced it's way in through every little seam. I have no energy these days, but forced myself to get outside and finish picking apples. It was sort of like playing whack a mole, trying to get the apple into the long handled picker while the wind was flinging the branches around. But I got it done. Harvest from this unkempt 100 year old Northern Spy tree was four bushels this year. Last year was nine bushels.
Spent yesterday afternoon redoing the pool cover, sure hope it hangs on. My weather station stops tracking when the internet goes out, so as of a couple hours ago the peak gust was 44.5 mph. Haven't figured out how to use the phone hotspot for the weather station, so I lose data. Power keeps going out but so far has come back on. I'm leaving my oil lamps burning so I'm not sitting here in pitch blackness the next time it goes out.
Reminds me I still need to give the generator a test run and get fresh fuel in it and put the stabilizer in the gas I bought a couple of weeks ago. Still haven't gotten the furnace cleaned up and ready to go yet either. Always so much to do and so little energy to do it.

Haven't heard the word 'rissoles' in years! and had forgotten that's what we called them in Australia. Here they would be called burgers- patties are made with minced pork but rarely made by anyone I know in Ireland. Like meatloaf but like you say, a different shape.
So was at a party last night, I drove home, so OH, who rarely drinks and only cider, could have a few, got home at half 3.30am. Not sure why I'm away at 8, even the animals were having a lie in. Have to say it was fantastic, I danced all night with people I used to dance with 30 years ago :) out again tonight, as 6 months ago I got tickets to Doug Allen, a wildlife photographer- good thing I'll be sitting down , don't think my ankles could take it- my feet were in shock at high heels 😂 or shoes at all! its normally wellies

I woke up at 04:00 but I didn't set my clocks back :).... I am trying to dissemble my battery box and charge controller setup. I would like to be done before this sun is up, but not likely. It is hot and muggy this morning, light rains and temps in the low 70s, I heard a rummer that this is November? Anyway I'm taking a break now, have 3.5 hours before I have to switch gears and do Church. I hope to get all this electrical stuff done today, that will be one thing off my plate...

Have a great Sunday.

I'll be working today. Not too bad--it's a 6.5 hour shift. Bonus is I get this coming Friday off for a 3 day weekend. I'll be doing this again the week of Thanksgiving. No 4 day Thanksgiving weekend for me though--I'll be working the 4 hour shift on Turkey Day. The money will be good for that one day though. Figured it out and it pays for the sheep fleece, wool combs and wool carders I just bought.

Waiting for it to stop pouring to take care of the animals. They are all in the barn, it rained all night.
Yesterday we visited friends. They used to live down the road but sold up their farm this year and moved to the city. They told us they don't miss farming one bit. Wow, I would miss living here and miss my animals if we did that. But they had regular jobs also so it was a lot for them
Stopped by the store and shopped on the way home.
Came home to an upset stomach. Not sure if it was something I ate there, or aftereffect of the antibiotics I took. I hope it was just something I ate didn't agree with me....

I make those too but mix ground beef and pork, they are called Frikadelle in Germany but not sure there is a word for them in the U.S

what's a chook?

A chook is a chicken. Around here where I live, they're also called hinkle.
It's going to be a long day, since I've had not much sleep, and never nap well. Too tired for church, and I'll get going on the animal chores once it's a little lighter out. Dinner at my favorite cousin's place tonight, so I'll have to decide what to bring yet. Her daughter is making hamburger rice soup.

Gotta fill the trash bin with weeds, pickup is tomorrow... weeding is just about done for the season, but I saw a few "late bloomers" in the yard and they gotta go. I'm trying to get rid of all the scratchy weeds too, like tumbleweeds and some other stuff that scratches your legs if you're wearing shorts. Slowly but surely, I will get the yard the way I like it, and then it should be much easier to stay on top of it... like so many other things in life, once ya get a handle on 'em, maintenance is easier. This home of mine would be a good example, it still needs a fair amount of work, but once I'm done with that rehab action the home will be SO MUCH EASIER to maintain. Meh, just a matter of time... 😒

Gotta water today as well, since I'm looking at riding the big ol' thumper in the mountains manana... picnic lunch on the trail somewhere! Maybe meet some other riders, as I've already done. Like Pearl's "pool float days" my riding days in the mountains are numbered, Old Man Winter will arrive before too long, then the roads will be too slick and dangerous for those Dunlop D606 knobbies. They're great tires, mind you, but they have their limitations when it comes to keeping traction on icy roads, lol... especially at speed. So I'm gonna ride up there tomorrow, but soon I'll be riding down here in the Tularosa Basin and making even farther recons to Caballo Lake and Elephant Butte Lake, about two hours away.

I'm sure it is. Alot of people call the amish dialect, Penn Dutch, but my cousin Harry is an Amish historian, and he reminds people (and me) that it's actually Penn Dietch, or Pennsylvanian German. Our middle son is fluent in german, and has been to visit a number of times. Some words are the same, some are similar, some not at all.

Just finished a late breakfast and sitting next to the wood stove enjoying the warmth. Going to head down to the ranch in the valley soon. Right now the wind isn't blowing, so maybe I won't have any problems crossing the lake in the boat.
Before I load up the Jeep and head out I need to crawl under the tractor and find the hydraulic leak. Our daughter is coming down on Thursday. I need to get the tractor fixed in case I need plow the road so she can make it in.

Having coffee, wishing I had a wood stove!
We will hopefully get the barn started by the spring and get the wood stove in that apartment, I can’t wait.
Today we need to finish spreading gravel, go into town to our storage unit and pick up the skirting for the RV to get it on before the temps hit the teens. Then start on the shorter posts for the solar rack hopefully. Also need to get the plumbing situated for the washer and dryer being delivered tomorrow. Should be interesting having the Home Depot truck out here but they insisted we couldn’t pick it up! 😂
Our son spent the weekend in our old town with his buddies, he’s on his way back right now and will pick up his girlfriend in town.
Tonight if it’s not too windy we will cook over a fire and hang out a bit before they have to work and go to school tomorrow. She’s in the RN program at the local university.
