Well, I reckon I'll postpone my ride in the mountains until Wednesday, as the clouds have moved in here and won't be gone until after Fraudulent Election Day. This postponement requires some self-discipline, as the bike is ready to go and has a full tank o' fuel, lol... but I want to get some good pics for the riders at the Kawasaki site, and that means on a clear sunny day, not this cloudy BS. The high temp is still slated to reach 77* F today, but by Wednesday, the clouds will be gone (supposedly) and the high will be 76*, so I reckon I hold off and just putter around the house today.

Who knows? Maybe I'll get started on one of the bathrooms, I need to paint those blasted bathrooms or I wont make my self-imposed deadline of Christmas Day... or was it New Year's Day? Now I can't remember, and I surely would *hate* to push the deadline out to St. Patrick's Day, lol. But I'll do it if necessary... maybe it won't be necessary. Dunno why I've had such an aversion to painting in the past few months, normally I knock it out as a relatively easy task, 10-4? Perhaps the fact that this is the THIRD home I've rehabbed in six years has SOMETHING to do with it, lol.

The son visited this week end. He went shopping for the wife and I added a couple things to his list (fruits and stuff like that). When he came home I took a break to visit with him. No fruit, no green veggies, but he did get the wife a leg of lamb, some chickens, ground turkey, flank steaks, and other meats...

Now my freezers are full again :(, I was saving that space for venison....

We talked about what he saw (he's a NYC Liberal) and he said that it just everything is out of season and stores don't want to order stuff that has to be shipped.... Okay, so it's not a shortage sort of thing..... Then we talked about the water issues in the West, and his response was "Hubris"? I had to ask him to explain:

His response was:
Hubris:
Overbearing pride or presumption; arrogance.
Excessive pride, presumption or arrogance (originally toward the gods).
overbearing pride or presumption

Trying to have great cities in the desert is just trying to deny the laws of nature, they believe that nature will bend to their desires.
The people in the West (CA) are unwilling to dirty their coast line with Nuclear Power or Desalting plants. Israel has no real supply of fresh water and they are making the desert thrive using fresh water extracted from the sea (he did a rotation there so he saw it first hand). The Californians expect everyone outside California to supply what they need (power and water) so they don't have to do anything dirty or unpleasant. It is their Hubris that will make them suffer and they deserve it.

So I reminded him that CA produces a lot of the crops that we depend on and he said we can get it from other places and it's not my problem.

Having just received a complete Liberal Education, I decided to go back to work on my back-up power and greenhouse garden projects....

By the way he thinks they are just a waste of time and effort.....

I think he has too much Hubris.... ;)

Snowing here too. We didn’t finish our skirting as it got dark too soon. So much to do all the time.
Stay warm today!
Work on the homestead is never done. The wife and I keep a list of everything that needs to be done around here, and by priority. Every morning after breakfast we have a daily chore meeting. Many things are weather dependent. Example, our tracked snow blower has a broken drive wheel, the tractor snow blade is broken. They move up on the list. Need to put the chains on the tractor and the tracks on the side by side. If the snow doesn't get much deeper the chains and tracks can wait until the kids come down on Thursday.
The work is never finished. I always run short on day light.

My first job was a ranch hand, second and third jobs was a ranch hand too. I think I started out making $.75 an hour at 13 years old, then it went up to $1.25 an hour. When I left HS early I went to Alaska to work on a fishing boat and logging.
I grew up on a farm till I was 17 ..... all I got was room and board . First paying job was a pizza place . Then I moved on to a real job .

Good idea to keep a list, the hubs and I both have a bit of ADD, so easily distracted and don’t stay on task as well.
I think a list would be a great idea especially for him, to try and remember what the priorities are- it can definitely be overwhelming.
We need to finish the racks for solar power and get the Quonset hut up first.
Delivery is delayed for our washer and dryer now, they came with a semi after we told them several times not to, and that it won’t make it down the road. Now I have to go to the laundromat this week, ugh

Trying to deal with my 97 yro. mother that can't talk any longer ,She was still driving up until a couple days ago , She can get a few words out but I can't really understand her . What I thought I heard her say (my car is shaking) so I drove it and couldn't find anything wrong , then I found out that she actually said ( I start shaking when I drive and I'm scared ) I think she decided today that she doesn't want to drive any longer.
Today they moved my back operation to Jan.

Well, the clouds moved in for real, we *might* even catch some rain, but I did a bunch of yard work because the clouds kept things cooler and a nice breeze also rose. After watering the trees & plants, I pulled more weeds and filled the trash bin over halfway, then took my Corona tree saw (hand-powered, lol) and trimmed all the dead branches off the lower trunks of the pines. I've been meaning to do this for awhile, as some of those branches were broken off and had sharp points that could put out your eye, especially in the dark if one were, say, looking to take a pee under a tree, lol. I'd rather have my guests take leaks under various trees than track dirt into my home every time they gots ta pee...

I've been "stabbed" by more than one branch in the past, and I don't want any guests to get poked in the eye after I tell 'em to take a leak under the nearest tree... if we were having a campfire, you understand. So I removed all those safety hazards, and it took a little bit longer than expected. I actually spent about three or four hours outside, but I got things done so I'm happy. I'll use the dead branches I cut to help start fires in the stone fire ring, I still have a good-sized stump and a log or tree trunk section to burn. Anyway, progress was made, and that's all that matters in this ongoing home rehab effort... I consider the yard to be part of the overall home rehab effort, should be nice once I get it the way I want it.

Now I'm showered up (again) and kicking back with a cold beer... I drank lemonade earlier when I came in, it was mighty tasty, but now I'm ready for some suds. Hey, guess what? I've decided to make a huge turkey feast tomorrow in honor of Fraudulent Election Day!!! HOORAY!!! The turkey will represent each and every VOTER, lol... it's a 15-pounder too, so I'll be macking off it for days on end. I was gonna cook this bird on Halloween, but I somehow got sidetracked and never cooked it, so I've decided to splurge and roast it manana! Stuffing in the bird! Mashed taters with homemade gravy on the side! I even have some green beans, though they're the cheap Chinese Walmart kind, probably chockablock with Billy Gates nanochips & vaxxer cr@p!!!

MEH... SOMETIMES YA GOTTA LIVE DANGEROUSLY, LOL. THE STUFFED BIRD SHOULD BE MIGHTY TASTY! :)

P.S. Probably use the 'Herb Seasoned Cube Stuffing' in the bird, and use the 'Traditional Stuffing' to make extra stuffing with the heart and liver, lol. I'm thinking it won't suck... :D

Edit: Since I had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BETTER TO DO with my time this afternoon, apart from grabbing another beer, I built an 'Eiffel Tower' of canned goods on my kitchen counter!!! I'll lay those pineapple slices atop the stuffed bird once it's in the foil roasting pan, I like a bit of pineapple with my bird! Cranberry sauce & homemade gravy too! One Thanksgiving Dinner, I tried diced Jalapenos in the stuffing, and it actually tasted pretty good, lol. But apart from the pineapple slices, I'll be cooking a traditional bird manana! Taters & green beans cooked separately! Turkey sandwiches out the wazoo later! And homemade turkey soup to cap it all off, with heaps of fresh veggies & some pasta or rice! A meal in itself, that turkey soup! Here's 'La Tour Eiffel!!!' 🇫🇷

Grew up farming so working started there. Mowed yards for years and plowed gardens for neighbors. First public job was a delivery driver for a pharmacy. Did that for a couple months then worked in a hospital dietary department. Did both for a couple months then gave up the pharmacy when high school started back up.

Well, did get animal chores done early, got the neighbor girl and little granddaughter off to school. Her mom came out with a loaf of fresh wheat bread and a dz chocolate chip cookies, and a dz peanut butter cookies. So sweet of her. Took mom to the dentist, of course, and worked on the junior turkey run this afternoon. It's long, one wall of it is actually the old wood barn. Took off the wind shredded tarps, and took some wrangling to get the new tarp on, wired it down, filled the run back end with fresh straw.
Wow, Urban. Liberal children are so much fun when they visit, aren't they? Pharmacist daughter really laid into me her last visit. Conservatives are evidentally dumb idiots, and she hates all of Kansas anyway. Not sure where all that came from, but it did. Also had to look at her book cover that I know was left around for me to see, about persecuted gays. Sometimes I feel like she's debating me on issues when I'm not even talking. Can't win those arguments, even if you don't even know you're having them.

Very busy this week , getting last load of hay for winter today and it's square bales. Hope my shoulder survives, but son will help husband pull it up to the top

Mountain trapper: we have that to do list too and it never gets finished. Most of the time we are just "putting out fires" and the stuff lower on the list never gets done until it becomes an emergency. Yesterday we went and bought wooden fence posts because some of the corner posts in 2 pastures rotted right where they go into the ground. So now we have to dig up the old stumps, and replace them. All day project most likely

Urban: I think the problem of California will solve itself, people are leaving because it is too expensive and too many problems. The real problem is the neverending supply of new illegals over the border

I have no liberal kids so I can't relate to that. I only have a few semi liberal friends online that's about it. Just had a conversation with daughter about the elections and she told me this : if Trump and Desantis are both in the primaries she will be voting for Trump for Pres, even if she really likes Desantis because she wants him to stay in Florida where she is still registered to vote. I reminded her that governors in Florida have term limits...
Son is semi libertarian but really nobody in my family is a liberal, not even my brother that lives in France

ok have to go

Going with dad and friend to a upcoming farm auction. I've been looking to upgrade my swather for a couple of years now. (or windrower for you easterners?).

There's been a few late season auctions pass, and I tuned in to try and measure the state of inflation. I appreciate that most auctions are online now. Dad hates that. He misses the social gatherings and the wasting all day waiting for the one item you're interested in that the auctioneer puts at the end of the line to keep interest garnered on the rest of the crappy stuff. But times do change and the auction process is no exception. Keep learning and adapting or your world really shrinks too fast?

Back to current economic development: farm equipment is still inflating. No question. When talking to bigger farmers, the state of new equipment has a lot of problems. Big farm and big tech lobbyists have joined forces and created monopoly on repair. Supply chain issues have kept some modern tractors out of the field all summer long! And prices are staggering. That all adds to increased interest in older machines.

So I expect to go and look at a few machines, but except to be an interested spectator more than a participant. The worst part is that custom rates rise just as fast as inflation. But I'd rather know that than some gigantic depreciation number (and unexpected repairs costs) because I bought a machine at peak inflation?

Along with our day to day lists we have a list for construction projects. We're working on our 2023 building list now.
I buy my fence posts by the truck load. When we bought this place the fence was in poor condition. The first year after we moved here I put in 800 fence posts, and 200-300 every year since. Starting last year I began replacing the corner posts with rail road ties. One corner of my property the fence is a couple hundred feet inside our property. I'll move that corner and replace a few hundred of fence back out to the property line. Most of my fence is over the property line in my favor, some places by 2 or 3 hundred feet.

Gah. I'm trying to figure out how to pay Illinois road tolls online. What a pain.

Have I mentioned that I hate working in Fail-inois? Specifically the Chicago Land area. What a waste of space...
One of the most corrupt places on earth.
A friend of mine received a bill for driving on a toll road in Colorado. She got the ticket 6 months after she had been in Colorado, with interest. So much corruption with toll roads, especially in Illinois.
I remember driving through Chicago a number of years ago and wondering what in hell would possess a place like that to have all those toll booths where you had to stop and throw in change? Why not just have transponders, or pay for it with taxes? Corruption! That is why!

I think I will make some high value training treats for the treat bag.

I bought two packs of chicken hot dogs, slice them up, roll them around in the frying pan to add flavor and smell, then dehydrate them. They will still need to be in the fridge, but this gets attention quicker than dry treats. I use string cheese too.
