Staying at my mom's for a while to help her out after her knee replacement surgery. There are so many benefits to not commuting anymore, I simply brought my work laptop along. There will be plenty of time to keep up my work hours, she doesn't need constant nursing, just someone to make sure she doesn't fall and to carry stuff because she has to use a walker for a while. When I had to drive to an office I would have had to burn up sick leave to just sit here.
Hopefully some nice time spent together!!

Updating clients web sites for 2023.

FEDEx claims the new steel mailbox post will still be delivered today. Their tracking shows mailbox post has been stuck in a different state for two days. My plan is to get it cemented in (dug the hole yesterday) today and let the concrete cure over the weekend. Final assembly Monday which is forecasted to be our last nice day until summer. Meanwhile I have the current plastic mailbox gray taped together that would make a doctor that bandages and charges by the foot drool.

Well, it rained last night, so I reckon I don't need to water... and even though there are still clouds in the sky, we have some sunny patches, so I'm thinking of visiting the Three Rivers Petroglyph Site once again. I called them yesterday and the 'Village Trail' is now open, they must have finished the work on it. I'm thinking of checking out that ancient village and taking some pics today, I could use a little exercise and hiking is a good way to get it... all that rich holiday food has added an extra pound or two, lol. Meh, I can always lose it by fasting for a day, but exercise is good for you! And I reckon the pics would make for interesting conversation here at H&CL! Now, having said that, if I visit the 'ancient village' and find "prehistoric" cell phones, big screen TV hookups, old laptops, etc., I'm gonna be sorely disappointed! Ditto if each "ancient dwelling" has a metal roof! And fresh paint from Home Depot! Lol. Guess we'll find out... Cheers!

Finishing up some year end work. Then stop by pharmacy for a script, the Lowes for some finish nails, nail set, and putty. Gonna finish up some trim around the back door this weekend. And probably go by Harbor Frieght and get a top tool box to fit my roll around cabinet. They have a 25% off coupon this weekend.
Then head home, unload, eat, and UT vs Clemson in the Orange Bowl.

Husband had errands in the bigger town that I went with him on. Picked up 500 lbs of chicken feed, and it's now in the milkhouse. His special chair arrived at 9:30 this morning by semi, guy could only get it down the driveway aways. It weighs 180 lbs and was on a pallet. So while we were gone, grandson started unboxing it on the driveway (??) and got parts of it in. Got half of the old recliner put in the shed where husband didn't want it, and the other half is in the dining room. Our neighbor came by and they got the heaviest part of the new chair in the house. Then grandson took off with a friend. So neighbor and husband figured out most of the chair connections, but did not figure out the massage connections. He is watching youtube. The chair is tipped over in the front room. Packaging still all over the driveway. Oh well. I made a couple loaves of banana bread, and boxed up all the christmas decorations except for the tree takedown. Took down all the outside lights. Got little granddaughter to take down the cat's christmas tree. Laundry done and hung.

Yep. Grandpa told him thanks as he left with some guy he said was a friend from school. Our neighbor's little girls were over...Brenda and Andrea, the one I take to amish school. She stood by our front door and watched them leave. I asked her what was up, and she just stared. She said she never saw a man with such long hair. Funny.
He did make an effort, although also a big mess. Maybe he made an effort because he will come home higher than a kite. Just guessing. And who knows when that will be.
He told me goodnight last night, I said it back, and his sis gave him a look that told him that's not allowed at all. I thought that was funny. She is very much his boss.

Today is Saturday and tonight is New Years Eve....which means the wild boys and various crack heads are getting a head start on festivities.
We've had a lot of small ferocious storms come through and that has shut down a lot of the madness but I don't think we'll be that fortunate tonight.
Tonight will be peak idiocy for sure.
I feel very sorry for the paramedic teams that are rostered on tonight.

I'm feeling a bit stronger today, mainly because I'm getting more sleep because of the panadine forte tablets I'm taking during the night.
These are scripted paracetamol+ codine tablets.
The ibuprofen and loratidine have started working again and they are my morning pain killers.
They're on the bedside table so I don't have to move much to take them.
I'm a lot happier scaling back on the pain killers.

I'm doing a hand wash of some shorts and some t's because it's just not worth having to drag the small twin tub into the bathtub.
I plan on making pumkin and sweet potato soup and freezing meal size portions.
I made the mistake of putting the microwave on a shelf at eye level and I need to get on a
step ladder to put food in it and esp, to get hot food safely out of it.
Climbing a step ladder, even when it's one step and still keep your balance is hard when you are in pain.
So, the microwave has to be moved down to a kitchen bench where I can reach it easier.

I'm down a chicken..a australorpe.
I can't smell anything dead coming from the back yard so chances are it got over or under the fence and
escaped.
I'm really not that worried to be honest.
If it was dead I would have have had to find the strength to dig a hole for it so it wouldn't stink the place up.

He'd never knock sis out, Bacpacker. She drives him where he wants to go, even to pick up his drugs. She stores them in her trunk, most of the time. She wakes him up in the morning. She tells him who he can date, and when he crossed her and dated a girl anyway, she told the principal of the High School that she heard the girl's dad was inappropriate when he chaperoned an event, and now he can't attend school events.

The wife is feeling better, she woke up at 17:00 and she is still exhausted... If she will sleep tonight I can get the kitchen floor finished up... It would be nice to have it all done and be able to use the kitchen tomorrow (New Year's Eve). She is planning to make a layered dip, I even got her some salt free corn chips for dipping. :) I'm such a good guy, except for when I'm awake....

You sound more like "you" today!!😉

Going to bed early tonight, I'm beat tired after hiking and exploring today... but I had a good time and found some more critters in petroglyphs, plus I visited the ancient village and took pics there as well. Gonna post 'em manana, right now I'm gonna get horizontal and read a book... which means I'll probably be asleep in record time, lol. Y'all take care, I'll be back tomorrow to post some cool pics! No beer today or tonight, I wasn't in the mood after partying last night, and now I'm too tired to care, lol. Meh, I'll catch up over the holiday weekend, I have no plans to go anywhere with rain in the forecast for New Year's Day. Suits me fine, we can always use the rain here in the high desert! And my roof doesn't leak! Cheers!

We drove to the big town to do a little shopping and have lunch.
Mostly to just get out of the house.
Went to the food truck pavilion and had lunch.
There was a new BBQ truck and her brisket was some of the best I have had.
Melt in your mouth tender and juicy with a good smoke ring.
She just got a new BBQ wagon that was made from a 1000 gallon propane tank.
I was looking for a pair of rubber boots and had no luck. If you wear an 11-14 they have plenty but try finding a size 9.
We stopped in at the Country Mercantile to refill out bottles with flavored olive oil.
That was a costly stop.
We filled 3 bottles a 16 oz., a 20 oz. and a 12 oz. bottle.
My wife and I both almost fainted when the girl said the total was $68.
Last year that would have cost less than $40.
We had filled the bottles so we were obligated to pay. Live and learn.
It would have been $40 more if we had to buy their empty bottles.

My brother rented a handicap accessible minivan so my mom could get out of the nursing home. I met mom and dad and my brother and sister in law at Pizza Ranch in a town about 40 minutes from here. Pizza Ranch fried chicken is the best, so dinner was good tonight. Daughter had to work so she missed out. She had to settle for a home made sloppy joe when she got back.

My sister's flight home from Europe got delayed so they're not getting in until late afternoon tomorrow. They're going to be a jetlagged mess for new years eve. We may go visit them but I'm guessing they won't want to see anyone til Sunday.

Pizza Ranch is a chain and I've heard it is a great place to take a group to eat. I've never eaten there myself.

Wife wanted a full size spare tire, so we went to Pull-A-Part & got a rim & tire for $25.65.
Tire was in got shape, so it saved us $100.00.
This is wise! I see so many people driving on those small donut tires. I buy a full sized tire and throw those donut tires in the trash. I also replace those J tire irons. I'll never forget trying to change a tire in the pouring rain with one of those ridiculous things. I replace them with the 4 way tire irons. I do remember that people keep impact wrenches in their cars. I looked at buying one, and they were around $250, compared to $25 to $30 for the wrench.

It is very good for groups. It is called Pizza Ranch because it has a Pizza buffet, but the real draw is the crispy fried chicken. However they make it, it's fantastic and it's buffet style so it's all you can eat. The mashed potatoes and gravy are good too. There's also a salad bar and dessert pizzas, usually a blueberry and peach cobbler type of thing in a Pizza pan, with soft ice cream.

My union local often has their meetings there. Every Pizza Ranch location also has one night a week where they let groups like church youth groups or the local kid's soccer league parents, bus tables, and the groups get to keep the tips. It's a fantastic fundraising idea. The founders of the company have strong Christian values and they encourage church groups to participate.

I had an assistant who was a Christian 20 years ago who talked about it. She and her husband had lived in Sioux City for decades before moving to Colorado to be closer to their children. I did look at trying to get a bunch of family together at the one in Ft. Pierre when I was there a decade or so ago, but we went to a steakhouse instead. It has always sounded like a great place to me, but not necessarily cheap to eat at. If I remember correctly, we were looking at something like $20 per person to eat.

Locations

  1. Colorado 1
  2. Illinois 8
  3. Iowa 71
  4. Kansas 6
  5. Michigan 4
  6. Minnesota 42
  7. Missouri 8
  8. Montana 4
  9. Nebraska 6
  10. North Dakota 15
  11. South Dakota 21
  12. Tennessee 1
  13. Wisconsin 27
  14. Wyoming 2

The car is a 1996 Honda accord, tire guy said the donut tire was bad & can not be replaced, but she could buy a rim use a use tire for the spare.
But the rim came with a tire & Pull-A-Part guy show us the best tire on the Honda, he had. So we will test the tire & rim tomorrow, but cause it has a three day warranty.

Cooking up a storm here for tomorrow, six of us plus 13 more for dinner. My bargain roast beefs are in the slow cooker, I can just slice and reheat in the oven as I'm cooking other stuff. Garlic potatoes, roasties and mash, carrots and parsnip, Brussels sprouts if I can find them, done in garlic and bacon, Yorkshire puddings. for starters veg soup and a lovely tear and share bread with baked brie for dipping. Birthday cake for dessert, but I have ice cream for the kids and husbands making a trifle- my Dads fav. There will be nibbly things for the teenagers who might be a bit fussy, but they know to eat what they are offered when they are here so might not need them.

Starting the new year off right!! 😉

Cleaning my building today so I can have tomorrow off! Then giving an estimate on an "after the new floors were installed" clean up job! A sister in law of one of my long time clients got hardwood floors in three rooms of her house, everything is dusty! Her cleaning lady hasn't shown up since the floors got done so I'll probably end up with her job too!!😉 Quick run by the local grocery store before heading home!! Going to be 70° today so I'll be outside this afternoon!!🌞🌞🌞

Cleaning up after new floors is a job! I remember the huge mess when the workers were done with our add on!
Putzing around here today with animal chores and house chores and some food storage chores. And of course, staying up till midnight and playing some board games.
Wow, Pearl...70 degrees?????

I would have done the same thing. I can’t lift 180 pounds, so I would unbox it to carry the individual pieces that I could lift.

The box was so big, it wouldn't fit thru the gate. Chair is in its place now, although he couldn't figure out how to get the massage and lumbar functions to work. The company is on vacation pretty much till Tuesday.
I was just surprised that grandson decided to cut open a box on a pallet in our driveway. The box pieces and packaging are blowing all over the farm. He got the head part of the chair in and the arms. Neighbor came to help with the heavy base. I guess I'll do clean up today and try to get the other old chair put somewhere.
